SAT Scores Correlations to Music Genres
Re-Directed Articles by Pat Darnell | Oct 27, 2014 | Bryan TX
Smart people listen to Radiohead and dumb people listen to BeyoncĂ©, according to study | Consequence of Sound: "How does a person’s intelligence relate to the type of music they listen to? For the last several years, a software application writer by the name of Virgil Griffith has charted musical tastes based on the average SAT scores of various college institutions. For example, students attending the California Institute of Technology have an average SAT score of 1520. By looking at Facebook to determine the most popular (or — “liked”) band of students at Cal Tech, Griffith was able to conclude that Radiohead really truly is music for smart people. A highly scientific study, I know."

BBC News - Greg Ham, Men At Work flute player, 'found dead':
'via Blog this'
EXCERPT | " ... Men At Work flautist Greg Ham has been found dead at his Melbourne home." ... In recent years, Men at Work were accused of stealing Down Under's central flute riff from the well-known children's song Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree. Despite its reputation as a traditional, the song was only written in 1932. In 2010, a judge ordered the band to pay royalties to the campfire tune's music publishers; this ruling was upheld in its final appeal last October. (Sean Michaels. 20 April 2012. ) ..."
The 58-year-old will be remembered for playing the famous flute riff from the band's biggest hit, Down Under.
Two friends found the body. They became concerned about Ham's well-being having not heard from him for some time.
"Because of the early stages of our investigation, we're not prepared to go into the exact details of what has occurred,' Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O'Connell told reporters.
Ham joined Men At Work in 1979 playing flute, harmonica, saxophone and keyboards.
The band achieved international fame in the 1980s with the 1983 hit Down Under, while their album, Business As Usual, topped the Australian, US and British charts. (BBC. 20 April 2012) ... "

MooPig Cloud Computing Segment
Moopig SITE Review :: wire to the ear // oliver chester :: BLOG
EXCERPT | " ... The tech industry is going to finally let us store our own music in the cloud. We can then listen on our mobile and web devices from anywhere. Amazon is first out the gate with it’s Cloud Drive and Player. Google and Apple will surely soon follow. Here’s some thoughts. I hope it’s easy to get my massive music collection online. I will be glad to have my collection anywhere I can log-in to the net. I’m glad my music collection will be backed up online. I hope it works over 3g or it’s useless. I wonder if any of these services will allow me to embed a player and share my music. If they do I wonder if it will have massive implications for SoundCloud. I hope there will be some interesting APIs spurring some innovative Apps that use your online locker. Ho hum another bill. ... (Chester, Oliver. 24 March 2011. LINK) "

" ... Oliver – I’ve been trying it out since it was announced and it technically works perfectly.
Upload time is a huge problem with the service, though, if you’re really into music. I uploaded 1 playlist of a little over 3 GB and it ran overnight and is still going today.
Based on this, it would take at least a week to upload my current library.
This doesn’t seem like a technology/service that’s ready for mass adoption yet. ... (ibid.)"

MooPig Report from the Middle :: "Survivor Industries"
MooPig loves among other droppings to be a Trend Spotter
by Pat Darnell
MooPig wants to present the newest business idea for all the MooPigsters out there looking for the next "big" trend in business.
Surviving has made it to MooPig's attentive state of conscience. It may not be "spoken of" out there yet; but we do note a sense of Surviving Industries Emerging.
Leading indicators:
- Well, let's see -- 60 Minutes just did a "After the Chilean Miner Rescue" segment that sort of points to our latest thinking on the subject
- *[thinking ... ]*
- Then there is the whole massive Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster and aftermath going in this direction...
- *[processing]*
- Hmmmm ... how about the complete failure of the Music Industry -- such as the recent report that CD sales were down another 20% this year.
- *[reaching]*
- Teenagers having nightmarish dreams about "surviving" some cataclysmic event after 13 hours straight of playing Black Ops on XBOX .... ?
Spotting trends and other forms of terrain has become a favorite wonkish exercise at Moopig round table Editors' meetings. Surviving the gas prices, tightening the belts, investing in smart appliances ... is on everyone's mind.
Not a day goes by that Middle America does not race to their local newspapers to see if any thing local made national headlines. Furtherest from ever achieving that is Texas Aggies sports teams; but that is not what tethers global south to balustrades of disappearing resources. What ropes and chains we the Middle in a short radius is civil disobedience.
All us here in the Middle are chanting around, and rabble rousing, our capital cities -- especially the Mid-West -- for what we are not sure. But it is a movement, and no one really knows how long the Middle has been stopped up ... so this could be a helluva' movement.
So we present Survivor Industries as Exhibit One for our reader, and finish with this one thought:
"It’s a well known fact that in the event of nuclear holocaust two things would TRUELY survive; cockroaches and Bear Grylls, afterwards Bear would simply eat the cockroaches for protein."That's our Report from the Midddle this week; where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are all above average.
NEXT WEEK:
We learn how to grill bear meat after blackberry season, using only a cell phone.

MooPig Site Review :: "This Application promotes Melody?? -- YIKES!"
MUSIC | [PAGE]
An app that jams with you.
Retrieved by Good Old Boy Pat Darnell
A good session player is hard to find, but ujam is always ready to rock. The Web app doubles as a studio band and a recording studio. It analyzes a melody and then produces sophisticated harmonies, bass lines, drum tracks, horn parts, and more.
Before ujam’s AI can lay down accompaniment, it must figure out which notes the user is singing or playing. Once it recognizes them, the algorithm searches for chords to match the tune, using a mix of statistical techniques and hardwired musical rules. The stats are part of the software’s AI and can generate myriad chord progressions. The rules-based module then uses its knowledge of Western musical tropes to narrow the chord options to a single selection.
The service is still in alpha, but it has attracted 2,500 testers who want to use the AI to explore their musical creativity—and they have the recordings to prove it. As ujam gathers more data on users’ preferences and musical tastes, programmers feed this info back into the system, improving its on-the-fly performance. In this respect at least, ujam is like a human: It gets better with practice.

MooPig Movie Critics Corner: "24 Hour Party People"

Seminal Ideas, and the Bubble Percolator Clubsby Pat Darnell and the Herd
Their colossal club was a gigantic hit, an idea whose time had come, but it was a financial flop.
Because it was not fueled on alcohol... rather fueled on Ecstasy, and the drug dealers were making all the money. It is a movie with a message to market share seeking business proprietors everywhere. The club owners then gave security coats to the drug dealers... it worked out. But still the money was not being spent in the club, rather being spent on more drugs, cars, houses, businesses, alimony's and, worst of all, on guns.

Paths of excess and opulence leads to wisdom, as stated by a long dead and famous poet, states implicit reason for destruction of human endeavors, institutions, and ideas. What else could a movie say than that?
Release Date: 5 April 2002 (UK) | Genre: Biography | Comedy | Drama | Music moreTagline: The unbelievably true story of one man, one movement, the music and madness that was Manchester.
Plot: In 1976, Tony Wilson sets up Factory Records and brings Manchester's music to the world...

Manchester 1976: Cambridge educated Tony Wilson, Granada TV presenter, is at a Sex Pistols gig. Totally inspired by this pivotal moment in music history, he and his friends set up a record label, Factory Records, signing first Joy Division (who go on to become New Order) then James and the Happy Mondays, who all become seminal artists of their time. What ensues is a tale of music, sex, drugs, larger-than-life characters, and the birth of one of the most famous dance clubs in the world, The Hacienda - a mecca for clubbers as famous as the likes of Studio 54. Graphically depicting the music and dance heritage of Manchester from the late 70's to the early 90's, this comedy documents the vibrancy that made Mad-chester the place in the world that you would most like to be. (2008: Wilson To Be Remembered At 24-hour Conversation Bash 24 March 2008 8:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news)Some person familiar with music business models really should consider tracking the events of several standout "mile marker" entertainment successes. With this empirical information from the last fifty years of the 20th century, could not a reliable time line be drafted to show the actual path of an idea from a Cambridge educated boy to the demise of the idea.
Using an old metaphor from
Transcendental Meditationalist's spiels; ...a bubble begins at the bottom of the deepest ocean, at the floor. This bubble has a size of microns, as it is pressed by immeasurable pressure of the dense sea water. As the bubble moves upward it grows larger and larger as pressure becomes less and less. Our bubble makes it to the surface of the ocean at its largest size before releasing its gases to the air. Ideas have this very same path, as described by many..Size is indirectly related to outside pressures... no? Also, Size is proportionate to the measure of outside pressures, as the "idea bubble" moves through time. Idea Bubbles, as metaphor of music business, a song has a life cycle that could be better supported by "outside influx" so that there is less pressure over all. The fear is that there is no residue once the bubble releases all it has to the air above. What better, therefore, it can be when the idea pays its way along its path to ambiguity?

Security censorship classification
MA 15+ (Drug use, medium level coarse language, sexual references)
Surveillance time
115 minutes (1:55 hours)
Re-telling Benchmark life-cycles of our Entertainment and Music businesses, started in the post Korean War Era, can make for interesting re-dux films like 24 Hour Party People... as most will enjoy and be entertained by the effort.
