"Let me put it bluntly: This won't work" (J C DVORAK)

Newspaper Publishers Are Idiots
by John C. Dvorak

So now we hear that The New York Times is contemplating the notion of becoming a subscription-based Web site, where you only get to read it if you pay real money. What a quaint idea.

Let me put it bluntly: This won't work. It will completely sink the publication faster than it's already sinking.
[... Read the Entire PC Magazine Article HERE]
So should the newspaper go the way of the buggy whip? No, it just needs to return to its roots, and focus on providing densely edited and directed information of importance as decided by a trustworthy source. And it should leave the fluff to the Internet.

For too long newspapers have taken on the role of cultural arbiter and distribution channel for popular culture ideas. That is all over and can never return.

That said, nobody has nailed the new model for the old newspaper. These publishers are out-and-out idiots. They see something online and immediately try to do the same thing in print. "We want color ink and more stories about celebrities!"

I was doing research at the University of California Newspaper Library, which has a tremendous collection of microfilmed old newspapers from every era. If you want to see the heyday of the newspaper business and quickly see what would work today, look at a 1954 edition of The San Francisco Examiner. It's so dense with news stories that today's papers look as if there's nothing in them. It is extremely compelling.

The point is that there are good ideas already out there, and they just need to be rediscovered. But for now the panic-stricken bosses seem to be heading down the same abyss in the same direction. It's the direction that created the abyss in the first place.

Helmet Cam: Family Plan: Tea Bagging

by Pat Darnell

MooPig Family Planning Department has used this youTube video to explain how it is experimenting with helmet cams for sperm cells. "With any luck we can have all the impact, frenzy and adrenaline surges, while no sperm, egg, or deer, is harmed," said Herman Rothbein, PhD, Chief Head Surgeon in General.

We certainly wish him well. It seems Dr Rothbein is attempting to put nano helmets on sperms to record their journeys to their big bang collisions with the eggs. "Thus far the biggest problem has been lighting," explains Dr Rothbein. "At present all our results look something like Rothko paintings."

"We intend to record and divulge our research to the world, just as soon as we correctly filter our data so it is understandable. We plan to have our reproduction problems solved very soon," says Helen Waite, intern assisting Dr Rothbein.

Dr Rothbein was a deputy assistant associate agent to the IRS Department of fetal resources until he received his PHD, and qualified also for a grant to follow up on the mechanics of sperm ejaculation for what he says is a future taxable base for American Government to legislate. "It is the only way law makers will ever be able to keep up with the water slide of life in internet tech that has left them [legislators] so far behind," says Dr Rothbein, "and it must begin with the Federal Government."

"If it [conception] can be calculated and documented with high speed film from impact, it can be taxed," explained Dr Rothbein. "Just like the fellow in the youTube: a question comes to mind -- did he purchase a federally insured State Hunting Stamp for this deer... ? Questions like these need answers.. right?"

"Please don't start throwing tea bags at me... this is also a data that will be used to provide tax credits for non-gender-specific married couples, and that includes adoptions, retail health-care product purchase, and human fertility supply chains nationwide," assures Dr Rothbein; "as couples apply family planning to their choices in fertility. We will have determined the instant of conception, and new depreciation tables can be calculated with new actuary charts of life expectancy."

Heavy stuff there Doc, and we salute your tenacity to plan for the future. We are naming you "Family Plan Man of the Year."

Hypocrisy :: the Downlow of Transnationalism

Transgenerationals Deconstructing America
Retrievals by Pat Darnell

The American Center for Law and Justice understands what’s at stake – and is concerned about this dangerous direction. At the ACLJ, we’re working alongside our international affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), to hold the Obama Administration accountable.

hypocrisy on the downlow -- "The fact is whether you look at foreign policy, economic policy - or even top appointees to the federal government, like Harold Koh, the U.S. State Department’s top legal pick, there’s a focus on what can only be described as the ideology of “transnationalism.” [HERE]

BECK: OK. So, look, here’s the thing. So people understand what transnationalism is...?

SEKULOW: Sure.

BECK: . and again, it’s not a dirty word...?

SEKULOW: No.

BECK: And this is how he [Harold Koh] describes himself...?

SEKULOW: Absolutely.

BECK: You’re going to see case law. This started in the 1920s, if I’m not mistaken. And what happened is, they started saying, wait a minute, evolution, if evolution is real well then people evolve, so must our understanding of things and so must the law. So now they just look to the future...

SEKULOW: Right.

BECK: ... and kind of sum and we continue to move forward. Now, it’s moving into other nations, correct or not?

SEKULOW: It’s even more -- yes, it is correct, but it’s even more than that. You mentioned the Darwinian aspect of this -- it does have a Darwinian base and that over time, universal norms come into existence. And even where you have a national sovereignty, a United States Constitution, that document no longer becomes the charter document upon which the government in the United States is to operate.

Comment: [SOURCE]...The danger, and to me, its significant is, again, it’s subservient to our national interests, and what happens is, the international norms take over the U.S. norms...In recent days and weeks, watching broadcasts of our new President speaking, I experienced the first flicker - barely a flicker, even - of my pre-election concerns reviving. I thought, It's just me. But it isnt't just me, I see now, after reading the transcript of Sekulow's interview with Glenn Beck. There is not always a place for a spirit of 'co-operation'. Sometimes open-minded, boundary-blurring initiatives can allow for the swallowing up of that which should not be swallowed up.

So, while "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men" (Romans 12: 18) is godly counsel for sure, there are apparently times when it is not possible. There are times when what seems to be a blessing is not that at all, but a curse in disguise.

We who see things in this light are in stellar company. Consider the following -

"...believe me, fellow-citizens...history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government." - George Washington, from his Farewell Address, 1796 [HERE]

Green Gardening: A new green choice for lawn lovers
By ANN LOVEJOY | SPECIAL TO THE P-I
It's a sunny Saturday morning. A soft spring breeze mingles birdsong with the roaring of mowers as millions of Americans prepare to attack their lawns.
[ ... ]
During the coming mowing season, about 800 million gallons of gas will burn to trim American lawns. According to EPA estimates, lawn equipment produces as much as 10 percent of all air pollution. That's a huge amount.
[ ... ]
In Washington and across the country, every major waterway is contaminated with almost two-dozen toxins, about half of which comes from lawn and garden products. Again, the lawn and garden contribution is enormous.
[ ... ]
Commercial services can use even deadlier toxins than those available at your local garden center.
[ ... ] Clean Air Lawn Care also buys certified renewable energy credits to offset the emissions of their trucks. The Clean Air Lawn Care Web site even has a calculator to show how much you can reduce your carbon footprint by using this green service. (Just select "lawn calculator" at the bottom left of the home page.)
[ ... ]
Ladd Smith, co-owner of In Harmony, said, [ ... ]"The Street of Dreams was a catalyst for change," he says. "We believe that educating the public and providing them with solutions is the way to get people to convert to a greener way of thinking."

Mi Casa es su Casa... no?

"We boldly go where powder coated rebar reinforced Portland cement will take us.

Or do we?"

by Pat Darnell, Isak Kirinyaga, and Tomik A Sappo

Post Modern id of Domicile, ego of Docents, and superego of Obsolescence... You have just arrived in a home that is couture Francois, but outside it is Houston. You wait in a sitting room where you have been directed by a servant -- a wet-back in a starched white shift. It is starting to bug you, so you attempt to read the Architectural Digest from the coffee table, that has this very house on its cover.

Have you ever Read an Article in Architectural Digest?
Architectural Digest Articles illuminated with extraordinary photography might go something like this:

...Seems unlikely that we heirs of Post Modernism would have any idea why "Post," since when we don't recall any "Modernism."

It turns out there are many architectural schools living up to their names. Ever hear of Ambient Domicile, or Earth Home; Post Nasalize, or how about Fire Box or Tippy Canoe? New to that one? Some say it would require not having read any architectural theory starting around 1960 to miss such architectural movements. However, when we decided to "Explode the Box," we began to question just how large can that organism grow? The answer comes to us through Toy Story: "To Infinity and Beyond..." says Buzz Lightyear.

But when we say Post Modernism -- it sounds like we are saying "To Infinity and Behind."

I am thinking those who slid down the Modernism mountainside got to the valley eventually where all is stasis. It suddenly became necessary to declare that we are now Post Modern-organ-isms. As if this were a case against the inhuman-ism of Modernism, just wait till you see architectural id and docent ego re-define Watershed Walkabout Spaces; and just how that sweeps superego of Modernism under the carpets.
  • Id: Functioning on uncontentious level
  • Ego: Providing functional needs, while not upsetting superego
  • Superego: Contentious behaviors
Thus id is firmly planted in domicile. Architecture is more Modern today than it was when it was Modern. Look for instance at ancient abode, walk ways, and monuments. Eh? What do you see? Leftovers? Yesterday's quiche is the main dish? We all thought we would be ordering ala carte in this French brothel... no?

Form follows Function: is one of Modernists' edicts. Top that one with a Less is More, and "Success is mostly about showing up." Thus Superego is safe and with us in spirit.

It must be ego that is unsteady.

Architecture is depicted in almost every sense as place located in time and space where humans walk about under protective water shed and weather-proofed climate controlled environment... unless one were to include our International Space Station in architectural discussions. ISS is environment controlled protective building for humans to float-about. But, generally Architecture is a place of walking unburdened by weather, climate and man eating animals.

Review: We present a tag line that enables heirs of Modernism to break away from their inherited metamorphosed sediments of constructed obsolescence. We boldly go where powder coated rebar reinforced Portland cement will take us.

Turn of the Century progress --
  1. Since 9\11 all building is obsolete.
  2. Humans do not fare very well in zero gravity for long periods of time, without cataclysmic bone failure due mostly to "no walking about."
Next Article: "What will be our new Magic Numbers for our superego Age of Obsolescence?" Excerpt:
And so, it’s the end of the West University Festival of New Homes until next year. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the three houses that really spoke to me. With each house I toured – I came away thinking “This is the ONE!” – how fickle I am. You see, I visited a open house this weekend and let me tell you – boy, was it beautiful. I’m thinking the open house I toured this weekend was the ONE!!! Does anyone know the name of a good psychiatrist in Houston? Specializing in new-house-itis? I’ve been struggling with this disease for a long time now and my husband is insisting that I get cured, quick.
