The Rip Van Winkle Effect
Mixed Martial Articles by Pat Darnell  |  July 22, 2015  |  Bryan TX

What if you were incarcerated for writing about your business? Well, here is an example of that very situation. This Blogger in Iran was arrested for the content of his Blog in 2008. Read on, dear reader ...

The Web We Have to Save — Matter — Medium: "Blogs were gold and bloggers were rock stars back in 2008 when I was arrested. At that point, and despite the fact the state was blocking access to my blog from inside Iran, I had an audience of around 20,000 people every day. Everybody I linked to would face a sudden and serious jump in traffic: I could empower or embarrass anyone I wanted. People used to carefully read my posts and leave lots of relevant comments, and even many of those who strongly disagreed with me still came to read. Other blogs linked to mine to discuss what I was saying. I felt like a king."

State of the "MooPig Wisdom" Address

by Pat Darnell  |  Sep 6, 2013  |  Bryan TX

After 3000 posts in MooPig Wisdom, and five years, it becomes necessary to explain what we stand for. It should be the other way around, but a blog is an evolving beast. What we know now, we didn't have a clue on in the beginning. [Do you notice that I am using the peculiar plural "we" in this message?]

Five years ago, 60 months, I went to key players and asked them to give me 60 months of truce. What for you may ask. In that time period two major events took place. The last two remaining Hynds kids had a kind of reunion in Dallas. [See CLOG Here] And now both of them have passed away. If they resolved themselves with the "key players," or not, was a major concern of mine. I can't speak for the key players, whether they took stock in the foretelling or not. But at that time in 2006 a light bulb went on and I conceived of using the Internet to journal the 60 months; and to possibly open up a forum for key players to communicate in.

In 2006 I had the knowledge of how to open a blog site using Google Beta Blogger, and also the knowledge of how to "cut and paste." Thus I spent long hours skidding through Google Images and other blogs looking for content. I discovered formats, tricks, news sites, and lots of other first timer bloggers. A list at this time of all MooPig Wisdom's discoveries is improbable if not totally moot.

And, the opportunity for others to join in never happened. What is important is that in its completion is a message. Without communication of thoughts, ideas and desires there is no chance for resolve. Now that the last of the Hynds children have passed, there is a lull in writing posts. Maybe the inspiration for blogging messages is lost.

Blogs are labors of love, MooPig Wisdom surely is. MooPig wisdom has about 400 pageviews per day. We are not read widely and, well, it kind of sucks. If you are not familiar with that term, labor of love describes a work that has merit, but few recognize its value.

Also, as in our case, Blogs are also master works of piracy. We tried to put MooPig Wisdom into a book format to put on our shelves, but found out that Blog 2 Print has a limit on how many pictures it can process from blogs to paper copy. MooPig Wisdom has over 8000 illustrations. It's like the KaaZaa of mostly pirated pictures and illustrations collections.

Not a brag, just a fact.

Now the 60 months are up, and MooPig Wisdom has run its course. Or has it?

Blogging Department :: "The Common Good"

Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 10, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

It's not easy finding subjects to blog about. Blog was short for Business Log, now it has lots of other forms and meanings. The major thing it has done is change social order. Discover your business, and make a daily log. It has a time stamp and file on a server. That makes it personal and public, and patented. Your blog is your patent.

Some how the first responders are no longer just news media jockeys. The camera phone and the bystander, who just happens to know how to blog, is the first witness on the scene. On youTube you find what you can't find on TV.

So who is responsible for what is and what isn't displayed for the public eye? I think blogging is response to absurd network news hype, and inaccurate newspaper stories. If anything, the witness to events is no longer second hand news coverage, rather it is you where you stand!

"It's a trend," think the media jugheads. "We the people thrive on bad news, we see it in the blogs." So they begin an onslaught of bad news. Typical.

Emphasis on bad news makes for an unlevel playing field. There is good news out there, and some bloggers try to make it their business. Thus, lots of flip flopping about whether there really is good in good. What some describe as the common good is not the common good of others.

Here's today's lemming. The dip in property tax collections that was predicted did not happen.

Property Tax Collections on the Rise Again « Eye on Housing:
Some analysts expected large declines in property tax collections for state and local governments in the wake of the Great Recession. However, this drop has never happened, despite historic price declines for owner-occupied housing. In fact, recent data demonstrate that property tax collections are on the rise again, leading to higher effective property rates for homeowners and other property owners.
'via Blog this'

This elevated tax burden is significant, especially when one considers the decline in housing prices since 2006 – a decline that led many to incorrectly conclude that property tax payments would also significantly fall. According to the Case-Shiller national house price index, housing prices are down a little more than 30% over the last six years. Yet the decline of property taxes paid from the peak is negligible (0.4%). This means that the effective tax homeowners pay on their homes remains high.

Taxes paid by homeowners and other real estate owners remain the largest single source of taxes for state and local governments. At 34%, property taxes represent a significantly larger share than the next largest sources: individual income taxes (22%) and sales taxes (21%).

There are several reasons why property taxes have not dropped with housing values.

  • First, assessments of value tend to lag.
  • Second, Property tax authorities can adjust tax rates, increase them as property values decline.
  • Taxes paid by homeowners and other real estate owners remain the largest single source of taxes for state and local governments. At 34%, property taxes represent a significantly larger share than the next largest sources: individual income taxes (22%) and sales taxes (21%).

Blogging is Pertinent; I'll tell you Why ...

PHOTO
What Blogging Is? ... a Development in Journalism
by Pat Darnell

Blogging developed out of healthy curiosity, as a taunt, a tantalize, and to quicken, in opposition to journalism. Plainly, Associated Press does a great job in getting first line on the facts of a story. And without AP most of us bloggers are SOL ... without a paddle.

Donkey Kong has its Diddy Kong, who shadows the action. Judge Dredd on his LawMaster Twin has a sidekick in most of his stories. Abbot has Costello. 'Nuff said. Brutal, yes.

Journalists have been adjusted out of their comfort zones. Two developments in technology might be responsible.First, High Definition Television, and second, Blogging, contribute to the rise or downfall of would-be journalists floating in current seas of the News Business.

With advent of High Definition monitors technology -- you might have noticed -- all the journalists are wearing tons of pancake makeup; more than before High Def TV. I don't even see a nose line in there anymore. [Woe is me: where did you go Sid Lasher?]

As for Blogs and social networks, a story reported today, is shadowed by millions of opposite editorializing, and sometimes un-scrupled devices invented by Blogsters.

What this can do for journalism, one would naturally ask? Mostly, blogging asks pertinent questions about the subject. Who- What- When, has been covered for centuries -- now is the time for HOW and WHY to find their way into journalism! Right?

For instance, I suggest this:  if blogging had been around when JFK was murdered, there might not have been the rapid murdering of his killer, his brother Bobby, and brother from another brother MLK. Shoot, maybe Lennon might have escaped and survived if high definition Blogging and social networking were around.

A good blogging on the streets makes our lives more survivable. Blogging might have helped Nixon realize he did not have to resign. We might not have lost a hundred thousand Americans in Vietnam.

Today "Pertinent" needs defining just like everything else. Stop a moment, and consider the Blog. It defines pertinence.

Here is the gist of the matter: Journalists wielded power over politics and entertainers for centuries. And the King would tell the journalist what to say. This led to a tradition that a microcosm of population achieved essentially minority rule.  Now monarchs of the elite press groups must face an onslaught of blogger questions, good- bad- and ugly, just to get a paycheck, anymore.

It is in the telling once and future Walter Cronkite wannabes, you are going to fight for your grub-steak; duking it out with us street people. And, well, there you have it. Sure those journalists who have it good are adverse to the change. But Katie and all the rest need to put on more grease paint for me. I never liked being held in the dark.

Now the many of us, Bloggers at large, are the Cats taking out the Norwegian Brown rats.

Like my DePaul Logic Professor, Patrick Kellerher, once said: "Philosophy must be brought back to the streets."

No?

If you Live in or around Zeeland, Michigan...

...You now have no reason to not visit MooPig Wisdom on the internet!!Blogger Buzz: Show off your favorite blogs with a Blog List
by Pat Darnell
Google in its ever ending journey towards zero , and the ultimate null hypothesis... has added a few clever blogger tricks to its armory.

I use now the Post Options trigger, that allows me to put new web log posts in places I think they could do the most "good." Those who think I am not shooting with all six bullets might want to realize it is a clip pistol I use. I am actually writing blogs ahead of time and scheduling them to post when I am on other tasks, like eating white bread. Multi-tasking is so wonderful.

Also recently I have utilized the new Blog List adaptation seen in the sidebar of my not too famous yet blog MooPig Wisdom. My Blog List is called Mi Blog List: su Blog List. All gratis from Father Google, and convenient for you because you will notice there is no advertising in this MooPig Wisdom site!! We can not justify making money off other's rancid mistakes, and sometimes fatal grammar errors.

So you Zeelanders can log in and scroll down to the Zeeland News Topix and see if any thing is happening there, besides bucolic bliss, and daffodils poking their heads up through the deep snow. Happy day, bob sledding the Internet today!
