Who Would Win in a Poker Game? #1

A Tribute
by Pat Darnell | June 22, 2013 | Bryan TX

James Gandolfini

--vs--

Steven Seagal

Long time actors who never strayed far from playing their favorite roles, as in always playing themselves, with lots of schmaltz, Seagal and Gandolfini might have faced each other in a poker game. Or not.

If you were holding five diamonds, and the bet was several thousand to you, would you still be able to stare these two down?

" ... New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has released an executive order that all flags in the state will be flown at half-staff on Monday, June 24 to "recognize the achievements and contributions" of James Gandolfini. (6/21/2013 by Michele Amabile Angermiller. LINK) ... "

We at MooPig Enterprises will honor that request.

Cage Match #11 :: "Popemobile vs the White Bronco"

First Ever to Include "Cars" in the Cage Match
by Pat Darnell and Google  | Mar 23, 2013 | Bryan TX

OJ Simpson in his White Bronco

--VERSUS--

Pope Francis in his White Mercedes Popemobile

Is the Popemobile a second-hand car? - Telegraph: " And if you want the same paint job for your C-class you'll have to ask your dealer for "Vatican mystic white". As with all Popemobiles, it carries the registration "SCV 1" (an abbreviation of the Italian and Latin names for Vatican City, Stato della Città del Vaticano and Status Civitatis Vaticanae, respectively)."

'via Blog this'

This is about uber-economics. What was the real cost of OJ "Orenthal James" Simpson's trial and error, not in that order? You see the jurors in the OJ trial were sequestered, average age of the juror was 43, exhibits presented during testimony: Defense 369; prosecution 488, cost: estimated $9 million for Los Angeles County--includes costs for court and prosecution--defense costs not known, the cost of Simpson's defense is estimated at $3 million to $6 million.

Think, 1.2 billion voices. So much for all the pre-conclave speculation and scenarios. For those of you who view papal elections in terms of brackets, e.g., Religious News Service's "Sweet Sistine, the election of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio is even bigger than a play-in team upsetting a #1 in the first round, and then going on to win the championship. (Brian Olszewski on Mar 15, 2013. HERE )

Calls to mind that Jesuit cardinal and eventual doctor of the church, St. Robert Bellarmine, who, when he resided at the Vatican in the early 1600s, tore the tapestries from the walls of his room in order to clothe the poor. He was said to have remarked, "The walls won't catch cold."

As for the "real cost" of papal switching, good luck with that. In other words we came up empty in our Googling. There are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world. That is one-seventh of the world's population. Now if every Catholic gave just one Euro ...

How Fast is Wikipedia?

Pope Francis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

You know, folks, the new Pope was just elected about two hours ago. Here is a Wiki page already posted online. How smooth is that? Pope Francis: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Pretty darn smooth.

These images were posted to Google Images just 40 minutes ago. We are nearing the speed of light in our communications. Turn on, login, tune in, see life go by.
" ... Argentine Jorge Bergoglio has been elected pope, the first ever from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium. He chose the name Pope Francis. After announcing “Habemus Papum” “We have a pope!” a cardinal standing on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday revealed the identity of the new pontiff, using his Latin name. Bergoglio had reportedly finished second in the 2005 conclave that produced Benedict XVI who last month became the first pope to resign in 600 years. The 76-year-old archbishop of Buenos Aires has spent nearly his entire career at home in Argentina, overseeing churches and shoe-leather priests. ... "

MooPig Big Speeches Department :: "The Pope Letter"

Pope Wrote Resign Letter in Latin
Retrieved for your Perusal by Pat Darnell  |  Mar 6, 2013  |  Bryan TX

" ...After the pope finished reading his statement to a meeting of cardinals who had gathered at the Vatican on other Church business, it was up to the Vatican's PR wing to translate the message and fill in a global press corps on what was said and what would happen next. At least one Italian reporter, however, got the jump on everyone else thanks to the fact that she was apparently paying attention back in high school: (Josh Voorhees | Posted Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Pope Benedict XVI Resignation Announcement VIDEO: Pope announces he is stepping down in Latin.:

'via Blog this' For those of us who opted to study a living language back in our school days, here's the official translation of the pope's announcement:

Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have

had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is. Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

Condom, is a condom, is a condom

Response to Papal Comments on Condoms --
By any other name is still a condom
Retrieved by Pat Darnell

Vatican may be less rigid on condom use

The tiniest of cracks may be appearing in Vatican policy on the use of condoms. The Roman Catholic Church has always opposed all forms of contraception and been unwilling to accept the use of condoms to help stop the spread of AIDS.

But a senior Catholic cardinal said over the weekend that exceptions could be made in some cases, for example if one partner within a marriage is infected with the HIV virus.

The Vatican will shortly release a document about the use of condoms for people infected with diseases like AIDS. Last weekend, the Vatican minister for public health, Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragan, told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he is working on a report about this matter at the request of the pope. This would appear to indicate a climbdown by the Vatican from its policy of sexual abstinence as the only acceptable form of prevention.

No liberal --
Pope Ratzinger is certainly no more liberal than his predecessor. But while John Paul II listened mainly to himself, his successor is much more open to debate. This also means, however, that he will listen to the advice of other Catholic cardinals, such as the chairman of the Papal council for the family, Lopez Trujillo, who maintains that the use of condoms contributes to the spread of HIV, because it gives a 'false feeling of security'.

Therefore, it's not yet certain whether the Vatican really will change its stance, but it is clear that this particular pontiff is prepared to take another look at issues which his predecessor regarded as taboo.

Do medical and governmental groups support condoms use
as an effective way to prevent HIV?
[SOURCE]

As a piece of contraceptive technology, all agree that when used correctly, the condom is remarkably effective.

Between 1990 and 2002, nearly $700 million worth of condoms were purchased for donations to nations struggling with population growth and/or sexually transmitted diseases. Quality evaluation typically took place at the time of contracting and again with product delivery. Tests include air burst integrity, tensile strength and electronic pinhole seal measures. The products perform at exceedingly high levels.

Condoms are also extremely easy to use, do not require medical supervision, can be distributed effectively, and don’t cost very much. In fact, unit cost of a non-U.S. produced condom is only 3 cents. That’s an important consideration since it was estimated that in the year 2000, some 8 billion condoms should have been available for free distribution in Eastern Europe and the developing world of HIV/AIDS. Donors provided just 950 million that year.

How does a story get Density?

1986 to 2009
By Pat Darnell and the Herd

The Pope goes to Africa. He stands before one million Africans in a white garb and a pointy hat. He says to all the mothers of Africa... "Condoms alone will not save you from AIDS."

The Pope is actually halfway correct. Though his followup is shaky -- "Abstinence, my children. That is the only sure way to prevent contracting AIDS..."

The truth is that condoms alone, in a population that has no resources for prevention or long term health care of innocent victims, will not prevent any epidemic of a sexually transmitted disease. This disorder appears in human history many times.
The Catholic Church rejects the use of condoms as part of its overall teaching against artificial contraception. Senior Vatican officials have advocated fidelity in marriage and abstinence from premarital sex as key weapons in the fight against AIDS.

The late Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo made headlines in 2003 for saying that condoms may help spread AIDS through a false sense of security, claiming they weren't effective in blocking transmission of the virus. The cardinal, who died last year, headed the Vatican's Pontifical Council for the Family. [SOURCE]
Three-quarters of all AIDS deaths worldwide in 2007 were in sub-Saharan Africa, where some 22 million people are infected with HIV — accounting for two-thirds of the world's infections, according to UNAIDS. (VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer Victor L. Simpson, Associated Press Writer; On Africa trip, pope says condoms won't solve AIDS – Tue Mar 17, [SOURCE])

But -- we are exploring the density of this story, right?
Back in 1986, Surgeon General C. Everett Koop spoke the truth when he said “....the best protection against [HIV] infection right now – barring abstinence – is use of a condom. A condom should be used during sexual relations, from start to finish, with anyone who you know or suspect is infected.” Lost in the controversy that has ensued during the two decades that have followed Dr. Koop’s courageous stand is the truth about this innovative piece of medical technology, not so much from intentional misstatement by its opponents as from editing and obfuscation that have confused what is a relatively simple issue. [SOURCE]
Without background, this story could never make any sense. Africans think the Pope is making a hard line statement about Catholic Doctrine for anti-birth-control. In truth the Pope is applying logic, statistics and patterns of human behavior to the question of prevention of spreading AIDS in Africa. A condom alone makes no difference in the over all numbers of victims, in a population like Africa's present populace.

A non-US made condom costs 3 cents.... uhhh is there a question about the nonexistent income of a single mother parent... and her vulnerability? African indigenous women, maybe, make three cents a week. How many times-a-week is the matron expected to put out sex? The Pope, God love him, is not half wrong; but the African opposition is 100% wrong. And all the Cardinals are out of the loop. Both abstinence, condoms, and fidelity including no adolescent or premarital sex will slow down AIDS, maybe.

Can I get a witness? This story is DENSE.
