MooPig City Desk Department :: "Those Loathsome Republicans"

Self-loathing Seminars Available
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Jan 20, 2013 | Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Obama won the popular vote with 65.9 million votes, or 51.1 percent, to Romney’s 60.9 million, or 47.2 percent, and won the Electoral College by a wide margin, 332-206 electoral votes.

There are other signs that Republican state legislators, governors and veteran political strategists are seriously considering making a shift, as the GOP looks to rebound from presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Electoral College shellacking and the demographic changes that threaten the party’s long-term political prospects.  (HERE)

Among the motivational speakers invited to address the retreat is Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to climb Mt Everest and thus the perfect person to inspire Republicans as they grope their way towards the heights of government. (HERE)

Republicans Retreat To Reassess and Figure Out How to Talk to Negroes and People With Lady Parts | Common Dreams: "Republican lawmakers have gathered in Williamsburg, Virginia to consider their political past (not so rosy) and future (not so rosy either), discuss topics from the debt ceiling and gun control to how to game the electoral college, and attend seminars titled "What Happened and Where Are We Now?" (good question!) ...

"How Is America Changing?" and "Successful Communication with Minorities and Women" - the last held in the Burwell Plantation Room, so named for a fine old slave-owning family, and located in the tony Kingsmill Resort, site of another fine old slave plantation.

Presumably, breakout sessions will include do's and don'ts on nappy hair and how to distinguish from illegitimate, oh-really-it's-nothing rape and actual, maybe-this-is-not-so-okay rape-rape, which the three white men and two women on the panel can hopefully figure out."

'via Blog this'

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., who heads Republicans' campaign efforts, deflected a question regarding the irony of a panel trying to help the GOP woo minorities happening in a room named after a slave-owning family’s plantation.

"I don't pick the rooms we meet in," Walden said. "I know the Democrats have held their retreats here too and I assume you'll go and figure out if they ever held meetings in that same room."

When pressed on why there were three white men (half the group) on a panel regarding minority outreach Walden said, "Actually, I don't do this part of it, by the way, somebody can fill you in on all the names, but it is more than just three white guys on the panel, and it was filled out after that went to press."

Walden made known that minority outreach and recruiting minority House GOP candidates were a “top priority” and that the GOP had a “good message” for minorities but had suffered from a recent "bad communications." (Luke Russert and Frank Thorp, NBC News. 2 days ago. HERE)

[Picture LINK] ... The resort was once the Kingsmill Plantation.

Panels will take place in the resort’s “Burwell Plantation” room, named after the family that once owned the plantation. The luxury resort is now owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz, a conservative political donor.

MooPig Snappy Come-backs Department :: 100 Things to say to Republicans

... The Federal Reserve is Privately Owned ...
Op/Ed snagged by Pat Darnell | Jan 17, 2013 | Bryan TX
" ... Unfortunately for all those still clinging to shreds of their tattered right-wing bubble, Republican states overwhelmingly take in more federal dollars than they pay in federal income tax, while Democratic states are net givers. Democratic states are the ones giving gifts, in the form of our tax dollars, to the poor Republican states. Fox rhetoric doesn’t fit the facts.
" ... None of these Republican pundits are willing to admit that they lost the election because their candidate and his message rubbed most voters the wrong way. Most Americans could not stomach rich Mitt and his plutocratic, rule-by-wealth economic policies. We witnessed an epic, good-versus-evil battle for our electoral souls in this past election with the Democratic thesis, “We are all in this together,” clashing mightily with the Republican antithesis, “Every man for himself.” ( Mike Kirchubel. MooPig We Love Maps Department :: "Election maps"

The 2012 Election :: Maps to Gander
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 31, 2012  |  Bryan TX
[Map LINK] Blue is Obama, Red is Republican ...

Election maps: What can we learn from Maps? Cartography is not dead? Maybe. The captions from the web page say this:
" ... The explanation for this apparent paradox, as pointed out by many people, is that the map fails to take account of the population distribution. It fails to allow for the fact that the population of the red states is on average significantly lower than that of the blue ones. The blue may be small in area, but they represent a large number of voters, which is what matters in an election.

We can correct for this by making use of a cartogram, a map in which the sizes of states are rescaled according to their population (ibid.)... "
   'via Blog this'

As you can see, the states have been stretched and squashed, some of them substantially, to give them the appropriate sizes, though it's done in such a way as to preserve the general appearance of the map, so far as that's possible. On this map there is now clearly more blue than red.

MooPig's Famous Last Words Department :: Harry Reid

Harry Reid: Bain Investor Told Me That Mitt Romney 'Didn't Pay Any Taxes For 10 Years': "Reid has jabbed at Romney before. Indeed, during the HuffPost interview, he seemed to revel in the headlines and fallout his attacks have caused.

"It's interesting, my guy from Vegas wrote this. He's a snarky guy, [Las Vegas Sun political reporter] Jon Ralston. He's a center guy. I like Jon just fine, but he's cynical, and I guess that's what serves him well. So he criticizes me for saying that Romney couldn't be elected dogcatcher," Reid recalled."

MooPig Site Review :: "Our Tattered Campaign Fund System"

[Picture LINK]

A Mumbling Waste of Time?
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  June 24, 2012  |  Bryan TX

Watch dogs for this mess are falling down and drowning in their own water bowls. There is a mess of dark money being infused into our 2012 presidential race. The thread of legality is that these super PAC's must maintain a "facade" that they are independent of the campaign that they are sloshing billions into.

What is the Dark Money? Non-disclosure is the slippery device that is used to avoid being evaluated by the American people and their watch dogs. Super PAC's say: 'We don't have to disclose our contribution, and we will go to great lengths to make sure no one can find us.'

All of this is happening right now. Because of a Supreme Court decision made since the last election, this presidential election will be the most expensive in the history of mankind. The decision to allow unlimited corporate spending on campaigns is called the Citizens United vs Federal Election Commission decision that Democrats condemn was a "clear signal that the Supreme Court takes a dim view of campaign finance."
" ... WASHINGTON — David Axelrod, President Obama’s political strategist, recently invoked a common perception about the 2012 campaign by blaming the Supreme Court for empowering 21st-century “robber barons trying to take over the government.” (JOHN HARWOOD. June 22, 2012. NYT. HERE) ... "
" ... In the case, a bitterly divided court ruled 5 to 4 that the government may not ban independent political spending by corporations, as well as labor unions and other organizations, in candidate elections. (NYT. June 21, 2012. HERE) ... "

What would make a skin-flint billionaire, cheap shot artist, spend $10 million of his money on a candidate? It is because the election is slanted towards the rich! The less rich candidate cannot keep pace with the rich in their attempts to "quickly, and without disclosure" push through their candidate. A less rich candidate cannot even make a tiny splash with his money raising donations in $25,000 units.

Who is going to file all the lawsuits this rich man's game creates? No one could get ahead of it, or afford it.

LISTEN to Democracy Now! video HERE:
" ... Part two of our conversation with Monika Bauerlein and Andy Kroll of Mothers Jones magazine. The new cover story in the magazine is called "Follow the Dark Money." We discuss at how Karl Rove, Sheldon Adelson and others are bankrolling Mitt Romney’s campaign, why President Obama has opted to accepted unlimited SuperPAC donations as well and Stephen Colbert’s role in the debate over campaign finance. ..."

The real players are people like the "sons of millionaires, and Parisk Hiltons" who make it cozy for the amber loving Politicians. Anthony Teoli Patrick you are so right. There will suspense for a while. After the debt celing is raised, then we have the 2012 budget to look forward to. Remember the White House budget for 2011 before the right wing brinksmanship about closing down governmnet, the white house wanted to cut 50 percent out of home heating assistance. I am not jumping to conclusions, but I really think for the poor, things are going to get tougher in this country. The rich, how the hell are they going to know the difference one way or the other. The meak may be promised the Earth, but in America the meak get to choose one side of power and defend it, while demonizing the other. The joke is on us.

Political Parties :: MooPig's Report from the Center

EXCERPT  |  " ... Former Congressman Vin Weber joins us here at the Aspen Ideas Festival, along with Democratic consultant Anna Greenberg in Washington, D.C., to talk about just who is the political base of the political parties as we go into 2012. (NPR. June 29, 2011. LINK) ... "
... REPUBLICANS ...
CONAN: And Michele Bachmann says she wants a constitutional amendment to define marriage as one man and one woman, yeah. Vin, is the Tea Party the base of the Republican Party?

WEBER: It's a big part of the base. I mean, the base of the Republican Party has traditionally, I would say, been small-business people who are primarily economically motivated and anti-tax folks, and that part of the base has grown substantially into what we now call the Tea Party.

People are motivated by fiscal issues growing out of the spending of the last couple years, really motivated by the TARP bill, which was a Bush administration initiative, and then by the stimulus package in the Obama administration.

I like to point out to people in about a six-month period of time, between fall of 2008 and March of 2009, the Congress spent almost $2 trillion or a trillion and a half dollars, and that's kind of scared people and gave rise to the Tea Party.

But there still is also a substantial social conservative base, which has been growing in the party basically since the 1970s, when Evangelical conservatives in the South, particularly, as well as some conservative Catholics and others in the North, switched their allegiance from the Democratic to the Republican Party.

... DEMOCRATS ...
CONAN: And Anna, we talked about the LGBT community as part of the Democratic base. You think of the rest, a big part of the rest of it as labor.

GREENBERG: Labor for sure, but I think that the Democratic base is more diverse than the Republican base and in some ways as many challenges as the Republican base faces around Tea Party versus more moderate folks and what that means for their ability to either get elected nationally or deal with an agenda in Congress, I think Democrats have some of the same issues. So in addition to LGBT and labor, you have African-Americans, Latino voters, younger people, though they look a little shaky relative to where they were in 2006 and 2008, but also very well-educated voters, people with post-graduate education, very Democratic, especially women, so very well-educated women and also single women.

So Democratic base is actually really, really diverse. I want to make one point on the Tea Party, just to follow up on Vin's point. There's no doubt that a lot of sentiment that the Tea Party reflects or represents reflects a lot of what the Republican base is about, but it isn't just an organic, bottom-up, small-business reaction to big spending.

It's actually initially organized around cap-and-trade vote and funded by the Koch brothers, and it's not as organic as I think the press makes it out to be or they would represent themselves to be. (LINK)

Corrupted!: 5 Shocking Examples Of Government Corruption That Will Blow Your Mind

Corrupted!: 5 Shocking Examples Of Government Corruption That Will Blow Your Mind: "$38.5 Billion In Budget Cuts Is Really Just $352 Million In Deficit Reduction?
" ... Yesterday I wrote about how a close examination of the 'budget cut deal' reveals that the 38.5 billion dollars in budget cuts are largely illusory.
However, even I was not ready for what the Congressional Budget Office had to say about this deal. What I read in the Washington Post today absolutely floored me. According to the Washington Post, the Congressional Budget Office is saying that the budget deal will only cut the budget deficit for this year by less than one percent of what was being claimed by Republican and Democrat leaders. ... "

  • "The Congressional Budget Office estimate shows that compared with current spending rates the spending bill due for a House vote Thursday would pare just $352 million from the deficit through Sept. 30. About $8 billion in cuts to domestic programs and foreign aid are offset by nearly equal increases in defense spending. (The Economic Collapse. April 14, 2011. HERE)

Obama to speak at Michigan high school graduation
May 7, 2010 2:33 AM |  AP
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Kalamazoo Central High School has rescheduled graduation ceremonies for June 7 to accommodate President Barack Obama, who will deliver the commencement address.

Ceremonies had been scheduled for June 10. But when the White House announced Tuesday that Central High had won the Race to the Top High School Commencement challenge, Kalamazoo Public Schools officials said the date might be adjusted based on the White House's needs.

The 1,700-student school was one of three finalists in the nationwide competition. They were chosen through public voting on videos and essays submitted by the schools. The White House said more than 170,000 people voted.

The contest is part of Obama's efforts to improve schools and raise graduation rates.

$50 For the Homeless
I recently asked my friends' seven year old daughter what she wants to be when she grows up. She said 'she wants to be president some day.'

Both of her parents, left wing Democrats, were standing there, so I asked their little innocent girl, "If you were president what would be the first thing you would do?"

"I would give food and houses to all homeless people," she replied.

Her parents beamed.

"Wow... what a worthy goal." I told her, "But you don't have to wait until you're president to do that. You can come over to my house, and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where homeless guys hang out, and you can give them the $50, you earned, to use toward food and a new house."

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

"Hrrrrruuumppff, come along Natalie," her parents still aren't speaking to me.

Going Out on a Limb

by Pat Darnell
MooPig_Wisdom said...
[clik HERE for the Blog that started this]

My following comment speaks to all in this thread; my claim is it does not matter who the candidate is; my proposal is a one six year term will initiate the "change" everyone is asking for.

It does not matter who is President.. haven't you noticed? It says somewhere in the tests of time that the next president must be a Democrat. The reason? ...due to miserable turn down in the economy.

Historically, a Democrat in office helps the economy return to some kind of balance.

This is why the only serious change is in the alteration of the economic cycle... Heavy concept, for sure!

That is why I propose a six-year, one-time term for the US Executive Presidency, instead of two fours. This is because me, the small business man, a bread and butter staple of AMerica, suffers the most as latent Republican President lame duck sits out his last two years.

As an empirical adjustment in political strategy dogmas, whatever's, Republicans go to or get involved in world wars using the military, Democrats stay out of wars and look to internal campaigns... cut military budgets and stress education.

Clearly, the baton today sincerely has to be passed to the Democrats... regardless of who the candidate is.

Someone must have said: "Okay, John [McCain] you can run but you won't win..." We need six years of Democrat dogma. You see, "It's a charade."

Shoot, you could put Kid Rock up there, in front of 22 virgin hijab wearing girls sitting behind him, as long as he is Democrat for 2008.

My advice to all comments in this discussion is to look at the irony of KaoBob's article. The point is drop all the pseudo-finger pointing and get your wheels moving in the implicit nature of Democrats' programming. Be more prepared and decided.

Arab, Pakistan, Illegal Mexican Immigrants, Terrorists, Russian Mafia, Italians, Firemen, Work Visa Workers, students, Texans ... it doesn't matter. Everyone in this country carries a check book [check card] and when the time comes everyone gets it out to decide how he/she/it will vote.

MooPig Exclusive Interview: "Favorite Music Of the Soldier to the right.."
"So 2pac died before he could record any salsa tracks but that doesn't mean we won't be seeing any on his next album; I love any version of Malaguena -- especially the salsa one (not Eddie Palmieri's version but the version I performed to in Xela that nobody knows the artist's name of) the Guatemalan Spanish rock band Malacates made me no longer absolutely and completely *hate* Spanish rockactivist musicians like the Iron Sheik and the Arab Summit and Immortal Technique -- who are all actually going to free Palestine, the Kumbia Kings made me like merengue again; Mazzy Star has always made me wanna have drunken sex; Alejandro Sanz's raspy voice makes him sound like a dirty old man but all that means is that we'll have to keep some lights on."
