MooPig We Love Maps Department :: "Election maps"

The 2012 Election :: Maps to Gander
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 31, 2012  |  Bryan TX
[Map LINK] Blue is Obama, Red is Republican ...

Election maps: What can we learn from Maps? Cartography is not dead? Maybe. The captions from the web page say this:
" ... The explanation for this apparent paradox, as pointed out by many people, is that the map fails to take account of the population distribution. It fails to allow for the fact that the population of the red states is on average significantly lower than that of the blue ones. The blue may be small in area, but they represent a large number of voters, which is what matters in an election.

We can correct for this by making use of a cartogram, a map in which the sizes of states are rescaled according to their population (ibid.)... "
   'via Blog this'

As you can see, the states have been stretched and squashed, some of them substantially, to give them the appropriate sizes, though it's done in such a way as to preserve the general appearance of the map, so far as that's possible. On this map there is now clearly more blue than red.

[Picture LINK] ...  "WASHINGTON, — You watched the conventions, you’ve been bombarded by political ads, you’ve seen the candidates umpteen times on the evening news, and you may have even heard President Obama and Mitt Romney speak from the stump in person. And in the last couple of weeks you have seen the polls in swing states shift dramatically in favor of President Obama.
Now with less than a few weeks before Election Day, November 6, comes that watershed moment, the Presidential Debates. It can be make or break time for a candidate, especially for Mitt Romney, who has had a bad few weeks. ... "

MooPig Economic Crisis Department :: "Filling Geithner's (Small) Shoes"

Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Oct 22, 2012  |  Bryan TX  | Thanks to Pribek.net
[Picture LINK] ...Timmy Geithner Knows Diddly-Squat...

Our Economic Crisis is years -- no, decades -- in the making. Propaganda has been spewed about a "strong dollar" ... "trade partners" ... "why the costs of gold and silver rose..." and what does all the talk bring us?

For answers you have to research Tim Geithner's regime as Treasury Secretary. Ho-hum... boring... it's not about kittens and teenagers. No; it's more like a story about "if you can't screw it, or throw money at it, it isn't worth anything..." rhetoric.

Here's how that rhetoric goes:
" ... Unbowed by the dollar's recent weakness — it hit its lowest level since August 2008 Tuesday -- or record-setting gold and silver prices, Geithner reiterated a now familiar theme among policymakers: The dollar's strength during the "darkest moments" of the crisis is "very encouraging," he said, and shows investors "retain fundamental confidence in the ability of the U.S. to manage" its long-term budget issues. (Cohen, Dave. 04/27/2011. HERE) ... "

Filling Geithner's (Small) Shoes: "In an economic crisis, the treasury secretary (tied with the Fed chairman) becomes the most important domestic public official after the president. Two huge and interconnected issues will face the next secretary: what to do about the still dysfunctional and largely unreformed banking system; and how to deal with the elite clamor for deficit reduction uber alles." (Robert Kuttner: 09/23/2012. HERE)

'via Blog this'

Timothy Geithner has said that he'll step down as Treasury Secretary at the end of Obama's first term. Assuming that Mitt Romney keeps self-destructing and Obama wins a second term, who should succeed him?

" ... Here are some people who might be taken seriously. I hope my comments don't spoil it for the relative good guys...
  • Erskine Bowles.
  • Jack Lew.
  • Larry Fink
  • Lael Brainard.
  • Gene Sperling.
  • Michael Barr.
  • Laura Tyson.
  • Daniel Tarullo.
  • Gary Gensler.
  • Ben Bernanke.
  • Janet Yellen.
  • Sheila Bair.
  • Martin Gruenberg.
  • Sarah Bloom Raskin.
  • Barney Frank,
  • James Galbraith,
  • Damon Silvers
  • Joseph Stiglitz, Brooksley Born, Phil Angelides.

" ... Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh. This is a key appointment, folks. Should not be left to the usual suspects. Progressive community should be paying attention, big time. (Robert Kuttner: 09/23/2012. HERE) ..."

" ... Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first. ... "
'via Blog this'

" ... Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party’s shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?" ... CountDown to Barry's Big Day

by Pat Darnell
I am afraid, though, that war in Gaza is going to trump Barry Obama's big day.

The offense was showing motion in the backfield on TV early the Sunday morning when Israeli ground forces sauntered into Gaza.

I had the channel set to DIRECT TV News Mix so I could drift around eight channels and get several perspectives. Somewhere a signal put the Israel ground forces into motion. (continued)

Obama, Spider-Man Appear In Inauguration Marvel Comic, LISA TOLIN | January 8, 2009
WASHINGTON — Spider-Man has a new sidekick: The president-elect.

Barack Obama collected Spider-Man comics as a child, so Marvel Comics wanted to give him a "shout-out back" by featuring him in a bonus story, said Joe Quesada, Marvel's editor-in-chief.

"How great is that? The commander in chief to be is actually a nerd in chief," Quesada said. "It was really, really cool to see that we had a geek in the White House. We're all
thrilled with that." [LISA TOLIN | January 8, 2009; HERE]

(continued from top) Suddenly a vacuum pulled the heft out of the ballsy anchors of late, late night... in the wee hours, because no "talking heads" or "Israel/Palestinian" former speech writers, or "Heads of State" were awake. I thanked the heavens for the quiet.

I laughed so heartily that the neighbors rooster crowed. News anchors of that hour, including Geraldo, began filling the twilight with the most ridiculous bunch of crap I have ever heard.

"Uh, there's smoke," said one. Another said "We have just been informed that Israeli ground troops have *[grudgingly]* started across the borders into Gaza..."

"I guess so!!!" I shouted at the boob tube.

So I went to the web and found a neglected story in the making. But the announcers must have been calling "analysts" in their sleep as someone somewhere was startled from deep sleep and said something about Obama arriving in Washington with his family... blahh blahhh... *[click]*

I truly have enjoyed my year of following our campaigns, elections and this last event of inauguration. I am afraid, though, that war in Gaza is going to trump Barry Obama's big day. (fin) Pat. Pend.

INSTANT VIEW-Israeli troops move into Gaza

Reuters North American News Service

Jan 03, 2009 15:26 EST

LONDON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Israel launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip on Saturday after a week-long air campaign against Hamas over the firing of rockets into the Jewish state.

The Palestinian death toll, before tanks moved in, reached nearly 450. Gaza rocket attacks have killed four Israelis.

Following are comments from politicians and commentators:

MAJOR AVITAL LEIBOVITCH, ISRAELI MILITARY SPOKESWOMAN:

"The objective is to destroy the Hamas terror infrastructure in the area of operations."

HAMAS OFFICIAL ISMAIL RADWAN:

"We have prepared the statement of victory for you (Palestinians) ... and you will see it soon."

Addressing Israeli soldiers, he said: "Gaza will not be a picnic. Gaza will be a graveyard for you."

BROOKE ANDERSON, OBAMA'S NATIONAL SECURITY SPOKESWOMAN:

"The President-elect is closely monitoring global events, including the situation in Gaza. There is one president at a time, and we intend to respect that."

CZECH EU PRESIDENCY SPOKESMAN JIRI POTUZNIK:

"At the moment, from the perspective of the last days, we understand this step as a defensive, not offensive, action." (Writing by Sami Aboudi; editing by Elizabeth Piper)

ObamaWatch Bids Us Farewell... It's Still the Economy, Stupids

Get out Your Check Books
Retrieved/ Paraphrased by Pat Darnell

Like a span of mules, Democrats gathered on the lawn at Grant Park in Chicago last night to hear once again "a Speech," yes an acceptance speech from elected Commander in Chief Obama. Like an ostentation of peacocks, this watch of nightingales stood looking to the stage for the declared winner of the 2008 Presidential horse team race. What a spectacle; what a finish.

Famous faces were picked out of the bed of oysters and clams spreading out at the foot of the lectern. Tears glistened on cheeks of the company's parrots. Supporters of Obama who had vaulted him above the rafter of turkeys in Washington, DC. were weeping tears of joy.

Around 11 PM, the now familiar voice of the tall President Elect rang out to the troops, herds and gangs set like siege of cranes before him and his leash of foxes, the Obamas in sartorial splendor. Tidings of magpies aped rhetoric that won the day for Democratic Political Party -- too long denied election to the top position.

How brilliant the doctrines of yesteryear had been resurrected by Obama Camp to ring truthfully in the ears of old and young patriots and ex-patriots alike. It alludes to past clowders of political cats fighting it out, only to end in a riot or worse civil war like a murder of crows.

No riots, not last night -- most of us looked down on that peaceful sea of humanity in Grant Park as the next yoke of oxen to fall into indentured slavery... hey now -- it is the American Way. pd

ObamaWatch Says this: Wednesday, November 5, 2008 | FINIS
[SOURCE]
"As I write this in the early morning of the 5th...

"Whatever could be said and done to stop America falling into the hands of an ignoramus has been said and done. The more I have seen of Obama, the more I have become convinced that his academic qualifications are just bits of affirmative action paper. The man knows nothing and has no ideas. All he has to say is hoary old Leftist boilerplate and largely content-free generalities.

"So the die is cast and there will be no more posts here after today. This has been a campaign blog only. If Obama is more than a footnote in history tomorrow, his words and deeds will be discussed on my general political blog: DISSECTING LEFTISM.

"Just as a parting shot, however, a few last pieces of commentary below:
  • Economic Illiteracy Is Not the Change We Need -- Barack Obama is campaigning for president under the slogan "Change We Need." Unfortunately, many of his economic policy proposals would move us in exactly the wrong direction... On the surface, environmental protection and labor standards sound noble, but actually harm desperately poor artificially raising the cost of employing them... effectively legislating them out of international marketplace... Restrictions on trade provide a short-run windfall for unionized American workers- powerful Obama constituency- this windfall comes at expense of other Americans who pay higher prices and at expense of poor people around the world who are then barred from the market.
  • Obama wants to create millions of new jobs via various environmental schemes -- Where government intervention is involved, jobs created in one sector are jobs destroyed in another.
  • Obama wishes to make it easier for workers to unionize -- In the late twentieth century, the government sowed the seeds of financial and social prodigality. Today, we're reaping what was sown.
  • Obama proposes increasing the minimum wage -- Minimum wages reduce the number of workers businesses wish to hire and legislate some of them out of the labor market. If we wish to truly help the poor, we should eliminate the minimum wage, not increase it.
Obama would do well to reexamine the economics of the changes he is proposing. Especially in a turbulent economy, many of his proposals exemplify exactly the kind of change we don't need. (Art Carden; October 29, 2008 Alexandria Daily Town Talk Retrieved HERE: economic Illiteracy Is Not the Change We Need )

"After eight years of unrelenting assault on constitutional liberties by Bush and Cheney, public and judicial enthusiasm for tyranny has waned. Obama has preferred to stand with Bush and Cheney. In February, seeking a liberal profile in the primaries, Obama stood against warrantless wiretapping. His support for liberty did not survive for long. Five months later, he voted in favour and declared that "the ability to monitor and track individuals who want to attack the United States is a vital counter-terrorism tool".

"Every politician, good or bad, is an ambitious opportunist. But beneath this topsoil, the ones who make a constructive dent on history have some bedrock of fidelity to some central idea. In Obama's case, this "idea" is the ultimate distillation of identity politics: the idea of his blackness. Those who claim that if he were white he would be cantering effortlessly into the White House do not understand that without his most salient physical characteristic Obama would be seen as a second-tier senator with unimpressive credentials.

"As a political organiser of his own advancement, Obama is a wonder. But I have yet to identify a single uplifting intention to which he has remained constant if it has presented any risk to his progress. We could say that he has not yet had occasion to adjust his relatively decent stances on immigration and labour-law reform. And what of public funding of his campaign? Another commitment made becomes a commitment betrayed. His campaign treasury is a vast hogswallow that, if it had been amassed by a Republican, would be the topic of thunderous liberal complaint.

"Obama's run has been the negation of almost every decent progressive principle, with scarcely a bleat of protest from the progressives seeking to hold him to account. The Michael Moores stay silent. Obama has crooked the knee to bankers and Wall Street, to the oil companies, the coal companies, the nuclear lobby, the big agricultural combines. He is more popular with Pentagon contractors than McCain, and has been the most popular of the candidates with Washington lobbyists. He has been fearless in offending progressives, constant in appeasing the powerful... (Cockburn, A; 10.26.2008) Excerpt retrieved HERE; emphasis's by Pat Darnell]

"...So no, this is not an exciting or liberating moment in America's politics. If you want a memento of what could be exciting, go to the website of the Nader-Gonzalez campaign and read its platform on popular participation and initiative. Or read the portions of Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr's platform on foreign policy and constitutional rights. The standard these days for what the left finds tolerable is awfully low. The more the left holds its tongue, the lower the standard will go." The Good News and the Bad News: ALERT

The good news -- "These monsters were caught before they did anything."

The bad news -- "There are monsters like these two guys loose in our neighborhoods."

SKINHEADS: The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. Agents seized a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols from the men when they were arrested. Authorities alleged the two men were preparing to break into a gun shop to steal more.

The numbers 14 and 88 are symbols in skinhead culture, referring to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children" and to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H. Two "8''s or "H''s stand for "Heil Hitler."

Helena-West Helena, on the Mississippi River in east Arkansas' Delta, is in one of the nation's poorest regions, trailing even parts of Appalachia in its standard of living. Police Chief Fred Fielder said he had never heard of Schlesselman.

However, the reported threat of attacking a school filled with black students worried Fielder. Helena-West Helena, with a population of 12,200, is 66 percent black. "Predominantly black school, take your pick," he said. (Associated Press writers Erik Schelzig in Nashville, Tenn., and Jon Gambrell in Little Rock, Ark., contributed to this report.)

Feds Disrupt Skinhead Plot to Kill Obama
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, AP
WASHINGTON (Oct. 27) - Law enforcement agents have broken up a plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 88 black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives said Monday.

In court records unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn., federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school in a murder spree that was to begin in Tennessee. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the school by name. [SOURCE, AP Story being retrieved by AOLNews]

Throwing the Game? No Proof, just Gut Feel...

by Pat Darnell, a question

I have a simple question. Does it seem like John McCain is making decisions as if he is trying to throw the race?

Sometimes the truth is more strange than fiction. In this case it appears that someone who has the say so, said "Okay, John, you can run for President; but you will not win."

For instance -- Obama already beat up one woman contender... why pick another as his Republican VP running mate?

-- and why does McCain look like he isn't all that interested in the big prize? He is on the merry-go-round, but not reaching for the gold ring... in my estimation.

Obama came from nowhere, with plenty of bias and prejudice seething in his careless speeches, and slanted slanderous attacks on establishment. How did he do all that damage control so fast, while McCain can't get a break on any of that Jeremiah Wright, Michelle, dirty boxing stuff?

I am convinced that McCain has reached as far as the "big whatever they are's" will let him. It is mandatory for the Democrats to be in the Executive this term, according to some deal cut decades ago?

MooPig Exit Poll Department: Prez-Dental Debate

UPDATE: Deepening Debate and Press Converges on the Crisis that is [or is not] Joe the Plumber... let's see the latest:

Oooops: MooPig yellow journalists made a mistake !! They interviewed the wrong Joe the Plumber. Here is the real Joe the Plumber -- or is it? Maybe we should change that to Karen Carpenter...

The Final Word on Joe the Plumber, by 3BlueDudes.com

Why the final word? Because he is a fraud. The media must really feel like morons. They took, hook, line, and sinker from the McCain campaign.

Mr. Wurzelbacher told reporters Thursday morning that he worked for Newell Plumbing & Heating Co., a small local firm whose business addresses flow back to several residential homes, including one on Talmadge Road in Ottawa Hills.

According to Lucas County Building Inspection records, A. W. Newell Corp. does maintain a state plumbing license, and one with the City of Toledo, but would not be allowed to work in Lucas County outside of Toledo without a county license.

Mr. Joseph said Mr. Wurzelbacher could only legally work in the townships, but not in any municipality in Lucas County or elsewhere in the country.

“This individual has got no schooling, no licenses, he’s never been to a training program, union or non-union, in the United States of America,” Mr. Joseph said.

So he isn’t a plumber. He doesn’t pay his taxes — he has a lien on his property for not paying taxes. And he does plumbing work without a license.

Anyone get the feeling that Joe isn’t going to wish soon he had this publicity?

Oh, and by the way …

Local 50 of the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Service Mechanics - the plumbers union in Toledo, Ohio where Joe is from, ummm, they have endorsed Barack Obama.

Turns out as well, Joe isn’t even a REP or DEM, he is a member of the Natural Law Party.

Enough said. (3BlueDudes; 10/16/2008)

Enough Said? uhh, don't think so -- "We've only just begun !! (Karen Carpenter)"

"Lucy Says:Do we know that he is not related to Robert Wurzelbacher, son-in-law of Charles Keating, who went to jail after the savings-and-loan debacle? They are from the same area, and it doesn’t seem that there are very many folks with this last name. Robert Wurzelbacher is now a fairly substantial Republican donor to candidates around the country. Could this be his son? He would be in the right age bracket?

"Spence Says:Joe the Plumber IS a relative of Charles Keating, the corrupt S&L kingpin who drew John McCain into his web of sin.

"karin Says: if you look at yahoo news you will see that an Az tv station shows he lived in Arizona in 2 different cities and has had run ins with the law. They have a video the the newscast. It is channel 3 in Phoenix. I wonder if he was a non vetted plant. (Comments; October 16th, 2008 at 5:59 pm. the final word on joe the plumber)"

MooPig Canvass Partners went out to find Joe the Plumber, and prove he is not fictional, and found him:

Space Pancakes & Flying Saucers Land in North Woods!
Space Cakes!! Meet Joe Simonton, the Plumber

Joe Simonton meets space aliens, flying saucers in Eagle River Wisconsin

"It’s a famous UFO encounter and it happened in Eagle River, Wisconsin, more than forty years ago, April 18, 1961. Joe Simonton, a chicken farmer, plumber, and part time Santa, got up from breakfast and reported hearing a sound, “like knobby tires on a wet pavement.” Simonton went outside and saw, hovering in the backyard a silver spaceship, he said “as bright as chrome and like one soup bowl turned upside down on another.” Then the craft landed, and a hatch went up…"

This may describe why Obama wears this hat, and why he keeps mentioning such a good mensch as Joe the Plumber!

"We think the story from 1961 describes an event when a space ship was discharging its latrines before heading back to Zima Prime Krappa;
and Joe, the Plumber, was on the job... come night, day, or inclement weather, as usual !!"

"Plumbers have all the clout, when drains are stopped!!"

Empowered to do something about National Pork

Since we are keeping it real... or surreal... I have a big question for the Presidential Debates this coming week.

For Barack Obama: "Do you eat pork?"

For John McCain: "Do you use and endorse Viagra?"

That's all I want to know; really. I wonder if ever anyone will ever actually look at the spirit of the debate this year. What I see is that the candidates keep going around thinking they are conducting business as usual. What is different?

Pressure on these candidates; does it come from political ranks? NO.. pressure is coming from MySpace, FaceBook, WordPress, and all the GoogleMegaPlex Tools. Yep, that's right!

My thirteen year old is putting pressure on Executive / Judicial / Legislature. The beginning of a voice of the people is finally arrived over two hundred years after it was written into our cherished balance of power documents of USA.

Poor, tired, rudderless politicians; I can see it in their faces at every new dawn, at each turn of a page. Hiding all his papers from his past, Obama is certainly on a trail of self-destruction. A savvy eighth grader can find voids in the path to his candidacy for Prez.

McCain, you have been so long in the saddle -- you don't even know that cover-up, and scratch my back I'll scratch yours politics are not part of the bylaws of the US government. In the near future your busy schedule could be put on hold all day by one call about a 3 minute YouTube v-log article.

You two can run, or jog, but you will not be able to hide anymore. You are very, very brave -- or total socio-paths -- to run for Prez in this decade...

Fellows, you are either extremely advanced or extremely ignorant. Hannity's America, check it out... Campaign Connections.

[Letter Excerpts]

"My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son's new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin - McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama.

"I was shocked - No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush - Just Barack Obama. I'm wondering how it is that Obama's story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his "Life of Service". Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an www.obama2004.com sign.

"Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid's throats?

"If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online.

By the way, you might find this interesting: I did a little checking on McDougal Littell, and it appears that MCDOUGAL, ALFRED L CHICAGO , IL 60611 - N/A/RETIRED has been making contributions to Barack Obama's campaign!

"I found that information on this website.

http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=IL&last=MCDOUGAL&first=ALFRED

"Now I'm not an expert at these things (just a PTA mom), but It looks to me like Alfred McDougal is connected to McDougal Littell the same company that publishes the 8th grade textbook that has 15 pages on Obama.

"I guess my question is:

Is it ethical for an Obama supporter to publish an educational book which has a 15 page Barrack Obama story in it?

If the tax payers are paying for these books, why is it okay for McDougal Littell to promote Obama? (Dooley, Fred; Oct 13, 2008. Source HERE retrieved and paraphrased)"
