MooPig Home School Department :: "MOOC's"

Massive Open Online Courses
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 27, 2013  |  Bryan TX

UC Irvine professor stops teaching online course in dispute - latimes.com: "Gary Matkin, UC Irvine's dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning and Summer Session, said in a statement that McKenzie is "not accustomed [as few are] in teaching university-level material to an open, large and quite diverse audience, including those who were not seriously committed to achieving the learning objectives of the course or who decided not to or could not gain access to supplemental learning materials." Future lessons and assignments, as developed by McKenzie, will continue to be presented, Matkin said."

The action by Richard A. McKenzie, an emeritus professor in the UC Irvine business school, highlights the uncertainties faculty face in adapting traditional face-to-face classes to the emerging universe of Massive Open Online Courses, known as MOOCs.

Under the Coursera model, much of the grading is automatic or performed by fellow students. Professors videotape lectures in advance and often comment in general on message boards without answering questions. Although enrollment is free, Coursera charges students $30 to $99 for a completion certificate.
" ... The big story this week is that Coursera is in talks with the American Council on Education to grant degrees for online classes offered through the network of MOOC courses that are currently free and not-for-credit. For that to happen, the parties would have to ensure they could prevent cheating and meet other academic standards. Colleges would also have to decide whether they accept Coursera credits. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the review and several other MOOC ... -related developments. -(Wired Academic on Thursday, November 15, 2012.  LINK) ... "

MooPig City Desk Department :: "Those Loathsome Republicans"

Self-loathing Seminars Available
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Jan 20, 2013 | Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Obama won the popular vote with 65.9 million votes, or 51.1 percent, to Romney’s 60.9 million, or 47.2 percent, and won the Electoral College by a wide margin, 332-206 electoral votes.

There are other signs that Republican state legislators, governors and veteran political strategists are seriously considering making a shift, as the GOP looks to rebound from presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Electoral College shellacking and the demographic changes that threaten the party’s long-term political prospects.  (HERE)

Among the motivational speakers invited to address the retreat is Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to climb Mt Everest and thus the perfect person to inspire Republicans as they grope their way towards the heights of government. (HERE)

Republicans Retreat To Reassess and Figure Out How to Talk to Negroes and People With Lady Parts | Common Dreams: "Republican lawmakers have gathered in Williamsburg, Virginia to consider their political past (not so rosy) and future (not so rosy either), discuss topics from the debt ceiling and gun control to how to game the electoral college, and attend seminars titled "What Happened and Where Are We Now?" (good question!) ...

"How Is America Changing?" and "Successful Communication with Minorities and Women" - the last held in the Burwell Plantation Room, so named for a fine old slave-owning family, and located in the tony Kingsmill Resort, site of another fine old slave plantation.

Presumably, breakout sessions will include do's and don'ts on nappy hair and how to distinguish from illegitimate, oh-really-it's-nothing rape and actual, maybe-this-is-not-so-okay rape-rape, which the three white men and two women on the panel can hopefully figure out."

'via Blog this'

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., who heads Republicans' campaign efforts, deflected a question regarding the irony of a panel trying to help the GOP woo minorities happening in a room named after a slave-owning family’s plantation.

"I don't pick the rooms we meet in," Walden said. "I know the Democrats have held their retreats here too and I assume you'll go and figure out if they ever held meetings in that same room."

When pressed on why there were three white men (half the group) on a panel regarding minority outreach Walden said, "Actually, I don't do this part of it, by the way, somebody can fill you in on all the names, but it is more than just three white guys on the panel, and it was filled out after that went to press."

Walden made known that minority outreach and recruiting minority House GOP candidates were a “top priority” and that the GOP had a “good message” for minorities but had suffered from a recent "bad communications." (Luke Russert and Frank Thorp, NBC News. 2 days ago. HERE)

[Picture LINK] ... The resort was once the Kingsmill Plantation.

Panels will take place in the resort’s “Burwell Plantation” room, named after the family that once owned the plantation. The luxury resort is now owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz, a conservative political donor.

to remove the regulations from
Czech: deregulovat

EXCERPT | " ... Deregulation 1970-2000

'Deregulation' gained momentum in the 1970s, influenced by research at the University of Chicago and the theories of Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich von Hayek, and Milton Friedman, among others. Two leading ‘think tanks’ in Washington, the Brookings Institution and the American Enterprise Institute, were active in holding seminars and publishing studies advocating deregulatory initiatives throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Bulletin: BLOGGER STRIKE / Day One

MOO PIG Special Report!!!!!
The steady thrush of QWERTY keyboards is hushed Nationwide...
BLOGGERS HAVE GONE QUIET
MooPig thinks it may be Grand Acronym Mass Hysteria
Late Tuesday night, early Wednesday morning Academicians who say they are frustrated went on strike. What follows is another Moo Pig Exclusive Scoop. Late Tuesday night 64% of blogs went silent. Yes, Frustrated Academicians have followed suit with the Writers Guild. "Apparently the only blogs still active," says spokesperson, "are blogs by:
  • Insurance sales groups,
  • Hairdressers,
  • and, Pilots of the Caribbean."
Early back-link studies show the blogger zero is an addres callout: http://Roy_Al_Les_Tennenbaum.blahger/~/amaboyrallih+Huma@Buddenbrooks.fred
"A highly subversive blog has been operating out of the Giraffe tunnel at the Houston Hermann Park Zoo," reports one source close to the event. "The hot spot has been the antique steam locomotive that had been parked outside the Zoo gates." The Locomotive had been a Herman Park landmark for over fifty years. It was relocated to the Houston RR Museum. The museum is located at 7390 Mesa Road on Houston's northeast side.

Specifications of the steam locomotive are Houston, Hermann Park-SP (T&NO) 982 (2-10-2), Baldwin '19 http://www.steamlocomotive.com/lists/1959.shtml and http://www.steamlocomotive.com/lists/TX.shtml

Visitor One enters the newly relocated land-bound Locomotive. Visitors never knew that there were 1700 pounds of Xenon processing equipment humming in the boilers of the landmark engine. Early reports can't confirm when the processors might have been put into the nose of the locomotive.

MooPig has been contacted by spokespeople Blog Out '08, who have asked us to stay online with reports from their point of view. "We will not let amaboyrallih extinguish the last hope of freedom," said the transmission. MPW will honor the request. "Possibly understanding the Writers Guild Strike will help in finding out why the blog-nation is trying to leverage the Internet protocol." To MooPig it looks like acronym hysteria.

Strike: Writers Looking At the Fine PrintBy Brian Stelter

Updated, 6:59 p.m. January 17, 2008 As the industry rushed to interpret the Directors Guild of America’s deal with the studios, the Writers Guild of America said it would carefully evaluate the terms of the agreement:

"Now that the DGA has reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP, the terms of the deal will be carefully analyzed and evaluated by the WGA, the WGA’s Negotiating Committee, the WGAW Board of Directors, and the WGAE Council. We will work with the full membership of both Guilds to discuss our strategies for our own negotiations and contract goals and how they may be affected by such a deal.

For over a month, we have been urging the conglomerates to return to the table and bargain in good faith. They have chosen to negotiate with the DGA instead. Now that those negotiations are completed, the AMPTP must return to the process of bargaining with the WGA. We hope that the DGA’s tentative agreement will be a step forward in our effort to negotiate an agreement that is in the best interests of all writers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ55Ir2jCxk"
