The UFC had a reputation, especially in the early days, as an extremely violent event, as evidenced by a disclaimer in the beginning of the UFC 5 broadcast which warned audiences of the violent nature of the sport.

If there is a body part that receives the most damage in mixed martial arts, I would have to say the ears. If you ever question whether a person's claim is that they are a fighter, look at their ears, and if they look like cauliflower, then his claim is probably true.

EXCERPT | " ... Hunt, who battled Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the night's heavyweight draw-card, required surgery after suffering a broken hand and face during the bout.

Eight UFC fighters in hospital after Brisbane fight night: "More than one-third of participants in the Ultimate Fighting Championship Fight Night held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre ended the night in hospital. Main card Australian fighters Mark Hunt, 39, and Dylan Andrews, 34, topped the long injury list coming out of Saturday's event. Eight of the 22 competing fighters were taken to hospital, including two rushed by ambulance to St Andrew's Hospital."

MooPig has a jones for bloodsport UFC style. We like to find clandestine cage fighting on late night, early morning, cable TV. We watch and squirm as the fighters unleash hours of trained, specialized, blood letting techniques in mixed martial arts upon each other.

Edge of suburbia, white flight we city dwellers desire and cherish blood sport. The sport of blood has developed NERO-ian dirty boxing face of chain link with sponsors like Jack's Links. Barefoot and almost bare knuckled, almost Colosseum gigantic, due to TV audience, and wearing garb from their Dojo's, MMA participants are amazing athletes. (LINK)

We found this report from the Brisbane Times of a recent bout where a third of the contestants were hospitalized after their bouts. YIKES!

"... In one of the greatest fights in Ultimate Fighting Championship history, Mark Hunt and Antonio ''Bigfoot'' Silva battled to a majority draw on Saturday. ... The UFC's Australian director of operations, Tom Wright described the fight, seen by 11,383 fans at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, as the best heavyweight contest he'd ever seen.(December 7, 2013. " ... ''Bigfoot'' was bleeding heavily in the final round, and two judges scored it 10-8 to Hunt. The result was one judge scoring the fight 48-47 to Hunt while the other two judges scored the bout 47-47, leading to one of the rarest decisions in mixed martial arts: a majority draw. CONCLUSION
MooPig has been watching the UFC from its beginning. The first UFC event was held in 1993 in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of the event was to identify the most effective martial art in a real fight between competitors of different fighting disciplines, including Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Karate, Judo, and other styles.

UFC has its roots in clandestine bare knuckle fighting, correlated with mixed martial arts training. Its octagon shaped cage gives fighters greater room to use their skills, more area to set up kicks and perform take downs. In take downs, grappling occurs as fighters use wrestling, and jiu jitsu joint locks, and throw downs. Most fights are three five minute rounds. Most fighters throw up to a hundred strikes in a fight, sometimes more. Take downs also score points if the fight goes to a decision by the three judges.


There are some rules like not hitting or kicking the back of the head, and not hitting or kicking below the belt, no head butting. Sometimes a fighter gets a finger to his eye, and the fight is paused for him to recoup. Gloves are worn to cut down on cutting that would come from bare knuckles. Elbows, shins, feet, knees, dirty boxing, are all otherwise fair to use in this modern day bloodsport.

May, tested positive for an excessive level of testosterone after his Dec. 6 draw in Australia against Mark Hunt.

None of these people pictured were in South Dakota, they weren't even on time for their own appointments. In fact they are only images of the people who were in the news today, for various reasons: wardrobe failure, pill popping, same sex kissing ...

But did you know that in South Dakota, crazy lights in the sky showed up for 4 days around January 6th?

That should add to the suspense of the night.

YANKTON, South Dakota  |  EXCERPT  "... I couldn't help but notice what looked like police lights ('cherries' or whatever they're called) in the sky to the south," the witness stated. "I was pretty sure there weren't any cop cars flying around that night, and the part of the sky I was looking at is a pretty busy flight path. On any day at any time of the day I see planes and especially helicopters flying by, usually flying northeast. This was definitely not a plane or helicopter."

Then the witness noticed a smaller object being ejected from the larger object. ... "

"A smaller thing like it appeared to fly out of and away from the first object. Its flight trajectory was a sort on parabolic curve toward the ground."

The second object seemed to affect cows on the ground nearby.

"And as soon as object number two disappeared behind background trees and houses I heard a herd of cows about a mile away freak out briefly. Nothing really happened; no cows were harmed and the diving craft didn't crash. But seeing that made me realize that there may be more of them. I looked around at the sky and spotted about four more of them but all were either smaller or at higher altitude than the first one."

These light patterns have been spotted now for four consecutive days.

"But every night there seems to be more of them. Thursday there were maybe about three or four of them. Friday, January 4, 2013, there were about six of them. Saturday night at about 1 a.m. there were at least 11. While I write this it's about 6:30 p.m. and they seem to have started early because instead of being on the eastern horizon, right now they are almost directly overhead, and other new developments are that they must be lower because they are much easier to see."

As the witness was writing the report, one object appeared to be at or near ground level.




"And about 15 minutes ago I saw something with all of those same flashing lights, but was much closer to the ground and I can see the shape of it - maybe triangle or stealth fighter shape. There are no military bases around here or anything else that should bring so much aircraft other than the usual traffic of private planes, crop duster planes and medical helicopters. Tonight is as interesting as all the other nights so, I guess the story continues to unfold."

No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on January 6, 2013. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Yankton is a city in and the county seat of Yankton County, SD, population 14,454.

South Dakota is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating, with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. South Dakota had 2 reports in December 2012 - the 43rd highest reporting state while California had 75 reports - the highest reporting state in the nation.

HERE IS THE UFO REPORT AS WRITTEN:

January 3, 2013, 10:30 p.m., Yankton, Yankton County, SD - for 4 consecutive nights, becomes visible on east horizon after dark, then between 8 pm and 6am move across sky going west. Case 45060.

on Thur Jan 3rd I went outside to smoke and was about ready to go to bed. It was about 10:15 pm. I couldnt help but notice what looked like police lights ("cherries" or whatever theyre called) in the sky to the south. People of Wal-Mart Site Mocks Retailer's Patrons

The "People of Wal-Mart" site is run by Andrew Kipple, 23, his brother Adam, 25, and Luke Wherry, 23. The site was getting 500,000 hits a day, which it could handle, but a recent spike as more people found out about it crashed it.

Photos already submitted included a man dressed as Captain America, a person whose haircut was described as looking like a rat, and a person with a goat. It's unclear if the person was married to the goat or not, but still.

Some have criticized the site, saying "People of Wal-Mart" mocks poor and rural patrons of the store, thus reinforcing stereotypes. Me? I think it's all in fun. (previous is Written by Michael Santo [HERE])

Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year for all you Reds fans out there in the Northern Hemisphere. It's also the first night of Hanukkah, for all you 'nukkahs out there. As Christmas approaches, things really slow down in the baseball in the world. But we here at Red Reporter never stop. Here's a few things up for discussion today:

Ty Wigginton is being courted by a number of teams, our Reds chief among them. The Indians, Pirates, and Giants are also in the running. According to Nick Cafardo, the Reds would like to use him as a super-sub, a-la the recently departed Ryan Freel. This begs the question: if the Reds like Wiggy as a utility guy and we end up signing him, does this affect the Jerry Hairston Jr situation?

Norris Hopper is doing his darnedest to get ready for Spring Training. Is anyone seriously entertaining the idea of him being anything more than defensive reserve/pinch runner?

Doug has an update for us on Juan Francisco and his conquest of the Dominican Winter League. Superlatives are failing me.

Justin released his review of the 2008 season for the Reds. In case you forgot, they didn't do very well. It's a pretty bleak affair, especially if you were hoping a few tweaks and improvements here or there could vault this team into playoff contention. Merry Christmas indeed.
