U.S. CONFIRMS EXISTENCE OF MERMAIDS | Weekly World News: "The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirmed that mermaids exist and that they are growing in numbers. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reportedly published a post on their “Ocean Facts” newsfeed titled “Conclusive Evidence of  the Existence of Aquatic Humanoids.” ( Frank Lake on May 16, 2013 LINK) ... I watched the episode on Animal Planet last night. It was a doozy. Fake, but a doozy of a dossier.

On “Mermaids: The New Evidence,” Animal Planet revisited its documentary about the existence of mermaids from last year, “Mermaids: The Body Found.” Biologist Dr. Paul Robertson returned with what appeared to be brand new footage of the alleged mythical creatures, allegedly taken this spring in the Greenland Sea.
Viewers were glued to the TV watching the new special, getting “Mermaids: The New Evidence” trending on Twitter.
But the whole thing is a hoax — the original documentary was revealed to be staged. Discovery, Animal Planet’s parent company, described the program as “science fiction” based on “scientific theory.”
The executive producer of “Mermaids: The New Evidence” told the Mother Nature Network that he wanted people to think it was real — that’s why they made it look like a documentary.
And The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration maintains, “Mermaids: The New Evidence” is just entertainment. Its website reads: “No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Why, then, do they occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring peoples? That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists.”
TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

Ok, lets say they are real, would this mean ? they own the ocean, ? Do they have rights? Something to think about.

Mermaids: The Body Found was/is fake. The researchers were actors check IMDB. (LINK)

CONCLUSION
After “Mermaids: The Body Found” premiered, NOAA issued a statement: “No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Why, then, do they occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring peoples? That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists.”

But we still wonder.

MooPig Moment of Science Department :: "2012 Highlights"

Welcome to the Age of Trans-humanism
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 31, 2012  |   Bryan TX

Business Insider has made a beautiful slide show for this year's best moments in science. If we could just put it all together, shake out all the old gray matter, and apply these discoveries, we might survive the next hundred years.

Humanity is a blip on the radar screen, in the overall scope of earth's history. Yet, already we are stumbling into trans-humanism, augmented human action using technology, implants and thought capturing sensors.

And was that the God particle after all? The good thing about science is that most of the time you can be assured that people are telling the truth.

Science's 2012 Breakthroughs Of The Year - Business Insider:

The discovery of the Higgs boson confirms mainstream physics theories.
On July 4, scientists at the European Center for Nuclear Research, or CERN, in Geneva announced with near certainty that they had found a Higgs boson. The Higgs boson is a big deal because it provides proof of an invisible field that gives mass to matter. The theory "explains how particles interact via electromagnetic forces, weak nuclear forces and strong nuclear forces in order to make up matter in the universe," writes Science.

NASA's Mars Curiosity rover lands on Mars.
A special "sky crane" landing system placed NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars on Aug. 5. The complicated landing maneuver was famously dubbed the "seven minutes of terror" by NASA engineers because that's how long it took Curiosity to get from the top of the Martian atmosphere down to the surface of the Red Planet. The mission control team had no contact with the one-ton robot during those critical minutes.
Curiosity survived the landing with 100 percent working parts, and is going strong five months into her two-year mission on Mars, sending back new photos and crucial data for future space travel each day.

Scientists created eggs from mice stem cells for the first time.
Japanese researchers showed that embryonic stem cells from mice could be made into viable egg cells, that could be fertilized and result in healthy babies. The healthy mouse pups shown here were bred from the eggs they created. The experiment only involved mice, but may one day be used to treat infertility in humans.

Scientists discovered the structure of a protein involved in the transmission of African sleeping sickness.
Membrane proteins span the outer shell of each and every cell in our bodies, sending signals and shuttling stuff between the inside of the cell and the outside. These proteins play a role in almost everything the cells do, and their involvement is critical in the transmission of diseases and disease-fighting drugs, so understanding their structure is important for developing new drugs to target the disease.
Researchers used an X-ray laser a billion times brighter than traditional X-ray sources to provide a detailed structure of one of these membrane proteins, which plays an important role in the transmission of the parasite that causes African sleeping sickness, a disease that kills around 30,000 people each year. This finding
The enzyme is shown spiking out of the insect's cell membrane below.

Sub-atomic particles known as neutrinos are caught changing from one type to another.
Some nuclear reactions, including those that take place inside the sun, create neutrinos. Neutrinos and their corresponding antineutrinos come in three basic “flavors": electron, muon and tau.
Measurements from the Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment in China revealed how electron antineutrinos transform into different flavors — either muon or tau — as they travel at the near-speed of light.
The results could help explain why the universe contains so much more matter than antimatter.

Researchers sequenced the genome of the Denisovians, a group of ancient humans that lived 41,000 years ago in Siberia.
Along with the sequencing of the Neanderthal genome, researchers also sequenced the genome of the group of ancient humans named the Denisovians, who lived 41,000 years ago in Siberia.
They isolated DNA from a bone fragment, a finger bone that belonged to a girl with brown eyes, brown hair and brown skin who died in Siberia between 74,000 and 82,000 years ago.
By comparing the genetic sequences of these ancient hominins to modern humans and our primate relatives, researchers learn more about how these ancient species lived, acted, and evolved. The DNA even informed us that humans possibly interbred with both of these species, since we can find some of their DNA in the genome of some modern humans.

Physicists detect particles, known as Majorana fermions, that act as their own antiparticle.
An antiparticle is a subatomic particle that has the same mass as a given particle, but opposite electric or magnetic charge.
A group of physicists from the Netherlands provided the first evidence that the Majorana Fermion, a particle that has the unique property of being its own antiparticle, exists.
Scientists think "quantum bits" made of these mysterious particles could be more efficient at storing and processing data than the bits currently used in digital computers.

The ENCODE project revealed a ton of data to help us understand our genomes better.
The results of a gigantic biology project — called ENCODE — were released in early September. The project covered ten years of effort by over 400 scientists and has culminated in 30 scientific papers published today.
The data from the project is still being analyzed, but it will help us understand our own genomes, not just based on the sequence of letters in the DNA code, but how this DNA interacts with proteins and other strands of DNA and RNA. These interactions happen in the non-coding regions of the genome, which are kind of like the "dark matter" of our genome — they don't get turned into proteins (only about 1.5 percent of your DNA does), so researchers were unsure what roles they played.
They think they've found the functions of about 80 percent of these non-coding regions with the ENCODE survey.

A new tool helps researchers manipulate our genes.
In 2012 researchers created a remarkable protein that they can use to change a cell's genes on the fly. Known as TALENs, which stands for "transcription activator-like effector nucleases," gave researchers the ability to alter or inactivate specific genes in zebrafish, toads, livestock and other animals — even cells from patients with disease.
These TALENs can be customized to seek out and edit any DNA sequence, so it's very specific. It can be used to chop out a bad gene and replace it for a treatment, or can be used in research to understand what specific DNA stretches do in healthy and diseased individuals.

Paralyzed patients use their mind to move a robotic arm.
A sensor implanted in the brain's cortex and used to monitor brain signals was able to control a robotic arm. The prosthetic limb shown below responded when the user simply thought about moving his arm or hand.

Relive one of the greatest science stories of the year.

One Tentacle alone does not a Squid make :: PART TWO

This is an unexpected continuation of that blog post from Sunday, February 22, 2009 :: "One Tentacle alone does not a Squid make"
by Pat Darnell  |  June 19, 2011  |  Bryan TX  |  [LINK]

A Quick Review:

EXCERPTS |  " ... Either by rational accident or by irrational accidents while someone is reading the phone book, I think maybe every sort of civilization has had its way with the American Continents, and all of those constituents have screwed up miserably.
" ...Truth is that we are afraid of sea monsters. If we find a giant squid, we want to cut off all but one of its tentacles. Because each group coming here is like a squid with one tentacle: it has been a weak argument for survival. What does that mean? the groups who are here are cut off from their homes, cultures, and siblings. Families follow traditions that they just plain fantasize is something they do in their old country's. Fact is that no second generation American has any idea what their parents' hell is all about. Mexican, Italian, Blacks, Polish, Ukrainian, Swedes, all have the same rates of cultural obsolescence and replicate fade, once the children hurry as far away, from their home towns, as possible.
" ... Someone has made discovery of a theory that Chinese landed on the west coast of North America 71 or so years before Columbus hit ground on the Eastern seaboard. A large "barge-like" Chinese ship built and perfected back then blew off course and "maybe landed on not specified, archaeologists are now trying to dig up Chinese ship-building wood they think is buried in sand dunes. (P.D.) ... "

It is now June 2011 and here is the UPDATE: It's All or Nothing according to "Feng Shui" !!!
Retrieved from email  |  Source Unknown

The Year 2011, is the year of Feng Shui and Luck, which I wish for you all.

The month of July this year has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This combination arrives only once every 623 years. The Chinese call this phenomenon “The Sacs of money” .

If you pass on this message, Chinese tradition says you will receive money in 5 days. And according to Feng Shui, those who do not pass on this message will have financial problems for the rest of the year.

This year is a bit special. We will have 4 unusual dates:

1/1/11, 11/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/11/11

...and that is not all.

Take the last two digits of the year of your birth and the age you will have or have this year, add them, and the sum for everyone is 111 !

Ex: 63 + 48 = 111

This year is the Year of Money and Wealth. The month of October will have 5 Saturdays, 5 Sundays and 5 Mondays ! This combination arrives only once every 823 years ! These years are called the years of Gain.

The proverb says that if you pass on this message to 8 good friends you will discover money in the next 4 days ! And the rule of Feng Shui also says that if you do not you will receive nothing !

This is all very mysterious - but perhaps it is worth the try !!

MooPig Feed for Thought "Genomics Department" :: Numbing NUMBERS

Report by Pat Darnell
UPDATE by PD

3 BILLION
About the number of base pairs in the human genome. The Human Genome Project was launched in 1990 and completed in 2003. The Project cost then about $2,700,000,000 [$2.7 billion] which is about a $-Dollar per Base Pair.

$48,000
San Diego company, Illumina, will sequence your entire genome for you, for this amount.

A new machine on the horizon will be able to do two full sequencings for only $10,000.

The Prize winner is going to be the invention of the machine that will " ... sequence 100 human genomes in 10 days for less that $10,000 each. ... " It's developer will be rewarded a prize of $10 million by the Archon X Prize Foundation.

About that paternity suit, Slick. You might want to just go ahead and pay the child care.

423
Sanger Institute's "Cancer Gene Census" figures there to be this many human genes implicated in cancers.

The WHO, World Health Organization, claims that over 10,000 human diseases may result from a single human gene. YIKES!

3 MILLION
Your FBI has about 8 million individual DNA profiles on record. Individuality is being re-defined ... only one-tenth of one-percent of the entire genome of individuals carries our traits for differences.

This number, 3 million, is the number of base pairs that differ from one person to another, according to our Genome Project.

5,831
As of late in 2009, this is how many genome sequencing projects are registered with GENOMES ONLINE:
  • 4,172 for Bacteria
  • 443 for Fungi
  • 233 for Plants
  • 37 for Primates
  • 84 for other mammals
  • 41 to Fish
  • 8 to Birds
160,000
Smallest known number of base pairs in the bacterium CARSONELLA RUDDI, living symbiotic with insects called PSYLLIDS -- which does not have the genes needed to survive on its own.

133 BILLION
The largest known number of base pairs in the largest genome, belonging to the Marbled Lungfish; Contrasting with only 3 billion base pairs in human sequencing. (discovermagazine. may, 2010)

UPDATE: [source]
Number of species/subspecies available: 4972 (3231 Vertebrates, 1741 Non-Vertebrates)
Smallest animal genome size: 0.02pg, Pratylenchus coffeae, Plant-parasitic nematode
Largest animal genome size: 132.83pg, Protopterus aethiopicus, Marbled lungfish
[NOTEs: Vinogradov (2005) recently argued that the largest genome size among animals is found in the South American lungfish Lepidosiren paradoxa at 80pg, and that Pedersen's (1971) measurement of the marbled lungfish Protopterus was greatly overestimated. However, Vinogradov did not measure P. aethiopicus, he measured P. dolloi. As a result, the largest animal genome reported remains 133pg for P. aethiopicus, followed by the amphibians Necturus lewisi and N. punctatus at 120pg*, followed by the amphibians Necturus maculosus and Amphiuma means and the lungfish Lepidosiren paradoxa (if one accepts Vinogradov's new estimate; three older studies placed it at 113-124pg), all at roughly 80pg.} Got That??

One Tentacle alone does not a Squid make

News Bulletin:
Chinese may have landed on West Coast 70 years before Columbus waded ashore in the East...

PHOTO: Crowning Cow; Hidden Pig

HHuhn~hn!? *[sound like Scooby Doo uttering disbelief]

...Is that therefore 1492 minus 71 years, comes to plus or minus a few Brown Water Rats and Yellow Fire Geese, and Blackened Water Buffalo, 1421?

2009 Year of the Ox -- or, Brown Cow
by Pat Darnell

Our Pacific Rim neighbors' year begins on 1/26/2009, it is the first Day of the Year of the Ox. Last year was the year of the Rat, up until 1/25/2009. MooPig "Bean Counter Department" officially goes on record today saying: "It's tunnel vision that makes us all crazy, nevertheless."

Our 2009 is year 4706 in China's calendar and time zone. Some times Ox is referred to Brown Cow. It is not complicated to count days, and moon cycles as the Chinese do. What is improbable and complicated is to try to understand what Chinese do with this information, turning everything into anamorphic incarnate personified beings. For instance this is description of last year by Chinese standard:
2008 was a very special year. Earthquake, Flood, Cyclone, Tornado, Fire, Oil, War, Housing problems, Global Financial Crisis have happened in 2008. ... see articles "Predictable Roller Coaster Life in 2008 Brown Rat Year."

The Year 2009 (Brown Cow) is the 4706th Chinese year. The Chinese believe that the first king of China was the Yellow King (he was not the first emperor of China).

The Yellow King became king in 2697 B.C., therefore China will enter the 4706th year on February 4th, 2009. Also, the Chinese Year uses the cycle of 60 Stem-Branch counting systems and the Brown Cow is the 26th Stem-Branch in the cycle. Since 4705 = (60 *78) + 26, therefore this Brown Cow Year is the 4706th Chinese Year.
Did you get all that? Wood Fire Earth Metal Water... Chinese days and such are combination of these elemental functionaries, animated with animal traits.... so that it was:
2008 Male Brown Rat. Brown is Earth and Rat is Water. Basically, It's favorable for Lucky Element Earth or Water people.
But, we have to pay attention that Rat will turn into Earth when it meets Cow... [on January 25, 2009?]
...and repeated by for thousands of years throughout Chinese generations. Chinese attach their lives, routines and inexplicable occurrences to the passing of days as a Norwegian Brown Rat looking for someone's abode to invade, or as an Ox -- Brown Cow in its daily adventure of Herding, Grazing, Mating, Wallowing?

Hey, don't we do some of that too in USA today?

Okay that's all great, truly authentic. But one might approach this in several ways.
  • One important way, we could try to memorize all the little Chinese pictographs, and complicate this until it is mind boggling.
  • Or, two, we can realize that Chinese are people like us, and they go through daily tribulations, trials, successions just as do we. Chinese can be blown off course, just like any Saxon, or Italian...
I choose reason Two; Why?
Calendars are math. Rudimentary numbers help in many ways, true. So let me repeat a "thing" I heard the other day.

Artifacts will prove the earlier landing of China on North America?

HHUH~N!? *[sound like Scooby Doo uttering disbelief]

Sure it will. why not?Is that therefore 1492 minus 71 years, comes to plus or minus a few Brown Water Rats and Yellow Fire Geese, and Blackened Water Buffalo, 1421?

Do you know what early unwitting Chinese barge sailors probably found? Me neither. But I suppose the ship's Coxswain turned to the Bos'un and whispered something like: "Now we have the Japanese surrounded..."

What it amounts to for this writer is that if I believe what I heard in grammar school about Europeans settling and making a national government so we can have National Holidays and indoor Ice Hockey. Now I think then I will believe Chinese landed on the West coast and developed animal deity worshiping tribes. I believe!

Either by rational accident or by irrational accidents while someone is reading the phone book, I think maybe every sort of civilization has had its way with the American Continents, and all of those constituents have screwed up miserably.

I think sailing ships have crash landed here from every country, planet and garden, including Siam. Siamese did so in the year of the Water Goose Siam.... '52

Spainiards followed the Queen's money over here, performed genocide on indigenous tribes, and created the Mexican race; half Spaniard, half Indian.

Flooding waves of Granada-ians come to New Spain and then from Mexico ever northward.

Truth is that we are afraid of sea monsters.

Viewing civilization with tunnel vision is the root problem.

It is fashionable, Genome mapping will turn out to be our most important tool to oust our biggest competition, and make a One World Blah-blah.

I predict in this year of the Brown Cow -- headed by Bill Clinton, all the biggest discoveries will be used to move our squid with one tentacle into the first family of world government.

Welcome! MooPig greets you in our special Year 2009 of the Tentacly Challenged Squid, hungry fellow who would eat the 4706 Brown Cow if it could get its tentacle on him. You 'll see as we move on through... the haze.

And don't miss -- Special Olympics trials "Squid meets Brown Cow" at the Nest... Beijing, 2009.

Epilogue:
Now that you have read to this point. You say: "What was that all about?"

I am trying to explain why One World government, money and taxes will never work out. That's all. Each group consumes the other... that is life.
