MooPig Wisdom Department :: Ten Things you need to Know this Morning!

Everyone Else tries to Make you Look, We're No Different!
by Pat Darnell  |  Nov 7, 2013  |  Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]  “Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.” ― Isaac Asimov, Foundation

We at MooPig FWD Email Department get a lot of unsolicited advice. Many "groups," like Business Insider, Motley Fool, and, LinkedIn, send us "Ten Things You Need to Know Right Now." One must admit it is a title that titillates, eh? But clues are all over the place, like this quote:
"Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world." [Henry Kissinger]
It turns out, most of the stuff in our lives, amounts to a lot of barking at the moon. Arguments online are at best chippy. So, what could MooPig Wisdom Department announce that might have any bearing on lives? Well, others try to get you to look at their stuff ... so here goes ... believe me, it's tempting to sugar coat this, and I feel like I'm sticking my neck out:

#10 --  At some point, you have to just ignore idiots. It is, after all, really a war to control minds, a battle for our brains.

#9 -- Hyper elites ... you know the Illuminati, and those freaks who inherited all the money and banks, ... people claiming to possess special enlightenment or knowledge of something ... they do not want to be engaged; not with you, not with me, and they certainly don't want to be engaged to each other, especially not with their own children. There once was a time when the Super-Rich needed a Middle Class to be successful -- Not Any More. Super-rich of the 21st century no longer think that you and I are needed for their continued success.

#8 -- Transhumanism is alive and well. We will be assimilated. It is not a bad dream you are having, we are on the road to a soft sunrise.

#7 -- That engine of business progress — it turns out that most of the cylinders are either misfiring or seizing up altogether. In its 2013 State of the American Workplace report, Gallup reported that 7 out of 10 employees are either “not engaged” or “actively disengaged.”

#6 -- What a person "believes" usually sabotages "logic and reason". That is why perceived "alignment, positivity, and feeling like one is achieving progress" actually limits so many persons out here from learning what facts are saying. [look at this LINK]

#5 -- Most of us are "not" put in a position to succeed. We are like Congress persons in the US, only mouthpieces for development and delivery of secretive, unknown to public, policies.

#4 -- If you don't know by now, you need to know that the Federal Reserve Bank, and all the European Central banks, are privately owned. What that means is that everything you, your children, your parents do is controlled by money that is controlled by the gray matter of one brain somewhere in the world.

#3 -- The media, including Internet, enjoys "making this bullshit up because there are absolutely no consequences for being wrong." [The Daily Show]

#2 -- Earth has experienced Extinction Level Events throughout its entire history. Our fossil record proves it. And ELE's will always be with us; they will happen again.

#1 -- Wisdom comes with a price. Wisdom is not genetic, nor given to the gifted or rich; it must be prayed for and earned.

CONCLUSION
"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system that has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.” [Speech by JFK]

" ... Want to boost your immune system for the up-coming flu season? Show the flu who's boss and strengthen your immunity with this antioxidant loaded raspberry orange smoothie! Raspberries are packed with 10 times the antioxidants found in tomatoes and broccoli - in fact, these little berries contain some antioxidants that are found almost nowhere else.

" ... Both raspberries and orange contain vitamin C (which is crucial for developing a strong and healthy immune system) - however, raspberries contain an antioxidant called ellagitanins, which is found nowhere else except in small amounts in strawberries (as well as in some Chinese herbs). These antioxidants not only strengthen our immune system, but they scavenge cancer-causing chemicals, rendering them inactive and thus unable to mutate our DNA.

" ... Many studies have shown the positive effects of ellagitanins (Ellagic acid) in raspberries such as:

- Making cervical cancer cells undergo apoptosis (cell death)
- Inhibiting mitosis in cancer cells (cancer cell division) by arresting the G1 cycle
- Preventing the P53 gene destruction by cancer cells
- Similar results above for cancers of the breast, pancreas, esophagus, skin, colon and prostate. Positive responses also observed in periodontal disease, radiation induced chromosomal damage, slowing the degenerative process of aging and healing neurodegenerative diseases (Posted Yesterday by livelovefruit. MooPig 12 Days of Doom Prep :: DAY Twelve "Eve of the end of the world as we know it ..."

Rock ~ Paper ~ Scissors ~ [...] ~ Truth
by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 20, 2012  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Let's begin where we left off: it begs repeating --
" ... The 2012 Mayan Prophecy has been readily distorted and misunderstood. The End of the Mayan Calendar on December 21, 2012 has nothing to do with the “End of the World”.

In fact, the Mayan calendar does not end on December 21st, 2012. Rather December 21 marks the beginning of a new “Long Cycle” in the Mayan calendar system. (See Washington’s Blog, End of the World: Hear the 2012 Prophecy … Direct from the Mouths of the Mayan Priests, Global Research, December 13, 2012)

The End of the World concept is a falsehood and misinterpretation of Mayan thought. What is at stake is a renewal, the unfolding of a new era. For the Mayans, December 21, 2012 marks the beginning of a new long cycle (Ibid).

Meanwhile, “End of the World” stories and commentary are plastered on the news tabloids. While the Western media readily refutes the Mayan prophesy, the apocalypse narrative, when repeated ad nausea  serves as a distraction and distortion. ( Prof Michel Chossudovsky. Global Research, December 19, 2012. HERE) ... "
Ten percent of the world's population believe that “The Mayan calendar, which some say ‘ends’ in 2012, marks the end of the world”. That is about 700 million persons. Now shall we add some metaphorical stuff?

ROCK ~ Media Disinformation

PAPER ~ Economic Medicine

SCISSORS ~ Criminalization of the Banking System

Yes, folks, it is all a game.
  • Scissors cuts paper
  • Paper covers rock
  • Rock crushes lizard
  • Lizard poisons Spock
  • Spock smashes scissors
  • Scissors decapitates lizard
  • Lizard eats paper
  • Paper disproves Spock
  • Spock vaporizes rock
  • and, as it always has, rock crushes scissors
TRUTH ~ The Government has no solutions to problems. All they know how to do is to 'spend money.' The quantity of money is controlled by a banking cartel, the Federal Reserve, which is neither Federal nor a Reserve, but a privately owned bank, by bunch of greedy bastards.
" ... [T]he FOMC decided to extend its asset purchases in 2013 as Operation Twist expires. Get Ready For QE4: Fed To Buy $870B More Through 2013, Barclays Says.

The Fed will therefore accelerate its rate of balance sheet expansion, easing monetary conditions further. While Operation Twist had been sterilized, which means the Fed sold assets at the same rate as it was gobbling them up, the new program will consist purely of Treasury purchases. Combined with QE3, the Fed will be taking $85 billion in bonds, both Treasuries and MBS, out of the market. The FOMC also decided to begin rolling over its maturing Treasuries as of January. (Agustino Fontevecchia, Forbes Staff. 12/12/2012. HERE)... "
Go ahead bang your fists into your hands... then slap yourself in the forehead ... gobbled up T-bills at same rate as selling T-bills ... as a balance sheet monetary 'easing?'

After all, it turns out, the 700 million believers are right. It is the end of the world as we have known it.

MooPig FWD Email :: Coach JOSH -- Holidays' Carb Watch

Today's guest article from nutritionist Josh Bezoni explores a type of carbohydrate that most people are consuming in very large quantities and don't ever think about the harmful effects on their health... As you can see from the information below, not only does this carb add excess abdominal fat to your body, but it can cause health problems that can lead to premature death. It's time we all take this seriously instead of something to joke about...

The #1 WORST Carb EVER
By Nutritionist, Josh Bezoni

And the #1 worst carb ever is…(drum roll please)

High Fructose Corn Syrup

Although high fructose corn syrup (called HFCS and “corn sugar”) may sound healthy, it actually is anything but. This dirt cheap, chemically-altered sweetener shuts down leptin, a fat-regulating hormone in your body that is responsible for sending “hunger signals” from your stomach to your brain.

Essentially leptin lets you know when you’re full. And when your brain doesn’t get the message, you keep eating and eating and eating while the manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup, and the products that contain it, keep making more and more and more money.

Here’s an example from a recent study. Test subjects were divided into two groups—one was given a glucose (sugar) beverage to add to their diet, while the other group was given a beverage containing high fructose corn syrup to add to their diets. While both test groups gained weight, the group consuming high fructose corn syrup packed on intra-abdominal fat (or belly fat).

Why is that so startling?

It’s because this particular kind of fat causes diabetes and heart disease. So, not only is high fructose corn syrup causing you to eat more than you should, it is literally putting your health at risk.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average American consumes 42 pounds of HFCS a year. That’s more than 75,000 empty calories that have no nutritional value! What’s more, teenagers are consuming 15 to 20 teaspoons of HFCS a day when they need to be eating nutrient-dense foods for growth and lifelong health.

It’s no wonder that The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says that HFCS use increased by 4,000% between 1970 and 1990. The manufacturers of HFCS really are cashing in big… just like drug dealers… while America is adding belly fat at a very dangerous rate.

Speaking of a drug, have you ever indulged in a sweet dessert that just wouldn’t fill you up no matter how much you ate? One of those treats that you have no self-control over, like, oh, I don’t know… maybe soft drinks, fruit juices, energy drinks, ice cream, pudding, jellies, most “fat-free” foods, chocolate, crackers, cereals, syrups, candies, or desserts? If that’s the case, you may want to check out the food label. Chances are it contains a large amount of high fructose corn syrup.

And remember, on American food labels ingredients are listed in order of the most abundant to the least. So if, for example, you see HFCS listed anywhere in the first five ingredients, that’s very bad. Instead, you’ll want to choose a version that doesn’t contain HFCS at all.

As an alternative to HFCS, I recommend the new zero- or low-calorie sweeteners like truvia™, Z-Sweet®, and Sun Crystals™ that are made with natural sources, such as erythritol and stevia. You can find these at most grocery stores. These natural sweeteners can be used instead of sugar packets in your hot beverages, on oatmeal, and even in baked goods to some extent.

Erythritol is an all-natural, zero-calorie sweetener that is fermented from sugars and found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. It has very little calories, no glycemic impact, and is only slightly sweeter than real sugar. It is also recognized as safe by the FDA.

Other sugar alcohols (such as xylitol or maltitol) frequently are blamed for side effects like gas and diarrhea when people overdo sugar-free treats. However, erythritol is absorbed before it reaches the large intestine, so it does not normally cause these digestive effects.

In the U.S., the granular form is marketed under the name Z-Sweet® and found in other natural sweeteners including Sun Crystals™ (which is a mixture of erythritol and raw cane sugar so it’s not zero-calorie) and truvia™ (which contains a mixture of erythritol and stevia).

Stevia rebaudiana is a leaf that first gained popularity in South America as a no-calorie, natural sweetener with a sweetness that is 30-45 times greater than that of table sugar. It’s been used all over the world for years as a safe, natural no-calorie sweetener.

After a long debate (which many people believe was due to the chemical sweetener industry trying to block it), it’s been approved for use in the United States. You can find stevia under the names PureVia™, SweetLeaf™, and mixed with erythritol in truvia™.

It’s important to remember that you should use all sugar alternatives, even natural ones, sparingly. Let your body learn that it doesn’t need sweets all the time to be satisfied, and you’ll be on the fast track to better health.

Now, while High Fructose Corn Syrup just may be the #1 worst carb ever, does that mean you should be avoiding ALL carbohydrates? Absolutely not! Carbs aren’t the enemy, just like fat isn’t…these nutrients are a healthy part of any wholesome fat-burning diet.

But what if you could easily increase your carbohydrate tolerance to ensure that the carbs you eat get shuttled toward muscle to be used as energy instead of deposited on your hips, thighs, butt, and love handles?

Well you can, with the most cutting-edge insulin sensitivity and blood sugar management formula ever developed, IC-5, which contains 5 very unique herbal ingredients that help to control blood sugar and insulin response to ingested carbs. And IC-5 is so simple to use… just take 2 capsules 15-minutes before any carb-containing meal and you’ll be well on your way to processing the carbs you eat...the right way.

... IC-5 LINK ...

What's more, I know many of our readers will be stocking up on the maximum number of bottles of IC-5™ today (which is 6), during this one-time special, and we're already getting close to being SOLD OUT.

Don't fall victim to packing on another 10 pounds this holiday season. Get everything you need to know about IC-5™ ...

To your success,
Coach Josh

Feed the Cow

It has been reported "... A man wearing a Bob Dylan [an Upstart Poet] backstage pass orders $3,900's worth of pizzas in an Amherst, Mass., restaurant and then never comes back. (CBS/AP) ..."

(CBS) A man wearing a backstage pass to a Bob Dylan concert showed up at a famous Amherst, Mass., pizza parlor in the wee hours of Saturday morning shortly after the music legend put on a concert nearby and ordered 178 pizzas, according to local reports.

The problem? He never came back.

Sean McElligott, manager of Antonio’s pizzeria on North Pleasant Street said the business was “too trusting” when it agreed to fill the man's order, reports The Republican, a daily newspaper.

McElligott said the man was in his 40s and asked if the restaurant could help feed the crew. The manager then offered to drive the pizzas to the Mullins Center, but the man never returned.

The final bill for the pizzas was $3,900, and the crew stayed up until 5:30 a.m. making them while looking forward to the promised big tip, reports the Associated Press.

While some pizzas were given away, many were tossed, the AP reports.

On Wednesday, Police said believe they have identified the man who placed the order, allegedly for a Mullins Center concert crew, reports the Daily Hampshire Gazette. (SOURCE)

Is it possible the man said "Feed the Cow" instead of  "Feed the Crew?" ... Dylan must've said "Don' wan' no pizza, man..."

Hypertension hits 200 million Chinese
By Shan Juan (chinadaily.com.cn)  |  Updated: 2010-10-24 12:43

[SOURCE]
It seems like anything that happens in China always affects millions of people. If there is a landslide, oops there go a million homes.... If there is a flu, oops there go three million to the hospitals...

Well, here is another staggering large number of Chinese people statistic for you:
" ... More than 200 million people suffer high blood pressure in the Chinese mainland and it has become the leading preventable cause of death in China, causing 2.3 million deaths a year, experts said citing latest epidemiology study results at an awareness raising event on October 8, the National Hypertension Day.

The event held by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in Beijing aims to improve the management of the disease at grassroots levels and promote proper and scientific use of hypertension drugs among the medical workers and patients.

High dietary sodium is blamed as a major factor for the high prevalence of hypertension, said experts. ... "
Two hundred million folks is half the population of the entire United States... and Chinese particular brand of hypertension is caused chiefly from too much Sodium. Here is my question: Is salt used because there is not enough refrigeration? As in, salt to preserve foods? We doubt it.
" ... Why is free glutamic acid added in vast amounts to processed foods? Our large profit-driven food companies have found that manufactured free glutamic acid, in the form of monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, etc., etc., when added to our processed foods, masks off flavors and makes the blandest and cheapest foods taste wonderful. (SOURCE) ... "
It is a "preventable" cause of death, but these articles only scratch the surface of this titan disease. We will get back to hypertension in the future, meanwhile we are submitting October 8, as National MooPig Hypertension Day, to our busy MooPig Science and Nutrition calendar, as Feed for Thought. It will take about a year for us to clear a desk top for a new reporter. Let's see if we can remember this date next year; after all this disease is the "silent killer."

Announcing the Pakistan Relief Fund
Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State, Washington, DC, August 19, 2010

US State Department WebSite reports: [Excerpt SOURCE]
From a transcript ....
" ... “Currently more than 20 million Pakistanis have been affected by the worst natural disaster in Pakistan’s history. That is more than the population of New York State. The enormity of this crisis is hard to fathom, the rain continues to fall, and the extent of the devastation is still difficult to gauge.

" ... The United States has and continues to take swift action to help. But governments cannot be alone in helping the people of Pakistan.

“That is why the United States Government through the Department of State has established the Pakistan Relief Fund for all Americans to join in this tremendous relief, recovery and reconstruction effort.

“The pictures we see coming out of Pakistan are painful images of human suffering at its worst. In surveying the lives and landscape affected by this disaster, we see brothers and sisters; mothers and fathers; daughters and sons. We see 20 million members of the human family in desperate need of help. This is a defining moment – not only for Pakistan, but for all of us. ... "

Officials: U.S. drones kill 6 militants in Pakistan
Updated 6h 2m ago  [Excerpt SOURCE]
MIR ALI, Pakistan (AP) — Suspected U.S. missiles fired from an unmanned drone killed six militants Saturday in a Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border, officials said.
Missiles struck two vehicles in Anghar Kala village near Miran Shah in North Waziristan — the second such attack since massive floods hit Pakistan in late July. The officials said some of the dead militants may be foreigners.
The tribal region is a haven for various Islamist militant groups. The main organization operating there is the Haqqani network, which focuses on attacking U.S. and NATO troops across border in Afghanistan.

This perfect correlation of recent articles from USA State Department and War Department defines us ... yes it is our Mojo, our modus operandi ... We, USA, send $2 billion in relief to 20 million stranded Pakistani; while taking advantage of "climate change" simultaneously flushing out and killing Terrorists hiding in Pakistan... Genius!

MooPig proudly offers itself to this reward, since it represents double-faced personage.

"It is our best understanding of ourselves in present time .. we could never think of a better way to define our commitments to dichotomy of life as living things ..." says Propaganda Parody Chief Editor here at MooPig Enterprises, Earl Joe, "Better than fiction, yes, ... it is reality, as it happens, defines us... MooPig Feed for Thought "Genomics Department" :: Numbing NUMBERS

Report by Pat Darnell
UPDATE by PD

3 BILLION
About the number of base pairs in the human genome. The Human Genome Project was launched in 1990 and completed in 2003. The Project cost then about $2,700,000,000 [$2.7 billion] which is about a $-Dollar per Base Pair.

$48,000
San Diego company, Illumina, will sequence your entire genome for you, for this amount.

A new machine on the horizon will be able to do two full sequencings for only $10,000.

The Prize winner is going to be the invention of the machine that will " ... sequence 100 human genomes in 10 days for less that $10,000 each. ... " It's developer will be rewarded a prize of $10 million by the Archon X Prize Foundation.

About that paternity suit, Slick. You might want to just go ahead and pay the child care.

423
Sanger Institute's "Cancer Gene Census" figures there to be this many human genes implicated in cancers.

The WHO, World Health Organization, claims that over 10,000 human diseases may result from a single human gene. YIKES!

3 MILLION
Your FBI has about 8 million individual DNA profiles on record. Individuality is being re-defined ... only one-tenth of one-percent of the entire genome of individuals carries our traits for differences.

This number, 3 million, is the number of base pairs that differ from one person to another, according to our Genome Project.

5,831
As of late in 2009, this is how many genome sequencing projects are registered with GENOMES ONLINE:
  • 4,172 for Bacteria
  • 443 for Fungi
  • 233 for Plants
  • 37 for Primates
  • 84 for other mammals
  • 41 to Fish
  • 8 to Birds
160,000
Smallest known number of base pairs in the bacterium CARSONELLA RUDDI, living symbiotic with insects called PSYLLIDS -- which does not have the genes needed to survive on its own.

133 BILLION
The largest known number of base pairs in the largest genome, belonging to the Marbled Lungfish; Contrasting with only 3 billion base pairs in human sequencing. (discovermagazine. may, 2010)

UPDATE: [source]
Number of species/subspecies available: 4972 (3231 Vertebrates, 1741 Non-Vertebrates)
Smallest animal genome size: 0.02pg, Pratylenchus coffeae, Plant-parasitic nematode
Largest animal genome size: 132.83pg, Protopterus aethiopicus, Marbled lungfish
[NOTEs: Vinogradov (2005) recently argued that the largest genome size among animals is found in the South American lungfish Lepidosiren paradoxa at 80pg, and that Pedersen's (1971) measurement of the marbled lungfish Protopterus was greatly overestimated. However, Vinogradov did not measure P. aethiopicus, he measured P. dolloi. As a result, the largest animal genome reported remains 133pg for P. aethiopicus, followed by the amphibians Necturus lewisi and N. punctatus at 120pg*, followed by the amphibians Necturus maculosus and Amphiuma means and the lungfish Lepidosiren paradoxa (if one accepts Vinogradov's new estimate; three older studies placed it at 113-124pg), all at roughly 80pg.} Got That??
Next WEEK: WHO Knows ??

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a term encompassing a wide range of procedures that involve the removal or alteration of a woman’s genitalia. ...
The federal courts that have addressed this issue currently treat a past infliction of FGM as a basis for a well-founded fear of persecution. The BIA, on the other hand, has rejected this position, arguing that FGM is a one-time procedure, and that once inflicted, an applicant will not be persecuted with FGM again, and thus cannot act as a basis for an asylum application. MooPig Feed for Thought :: Rotting Theory's Planted -- Now Firmly Rooted

Call it in the Air
by Pat Darnell

Bryan TX  |  04.03.2010  |  Originally I thought the continents were moving around the globe at a very slow rate. Then, the other day on History Channel, it comes to light that the North American Continent is moving rather rapidly -- in Geologic Time... [whatever that means...]. Paleogeography is plate distribution over time.
PHOTO Left :: Time-exposure photograph of the electronic-laser, ground-motion measurement system in operation at Parkfield, California, to track movement along the San Andreas fault (Photograph by John Nakata, USGS.)

Regardless of the changes that will affect us in the next century, the plates will continue their journey. Small as the displacement may seem ... the plates move at about the rate that your hair grows ... , the forces generated are very large and the natural hazards that they produce will remain to be enormous. There's no messing with nature in the long run. (edu umich. HERE )
Others I know have been led to believe that the world is "more" than "less" like it has always been in Human time of our inhabitation of continents. So imagine my surprise.
Alfred Wegener's theory on continental drift, published in 1915, remains to be the interpretative force behind the field of tectonic plates and oceanography. In his book, The Origin of Continents and Oceans Wegener supported a previously debated idea of continental drift, explaining that a supercontinent he called Pangaea (i.e., all lands), once existed in the past, then dismembered.
This breaking-up process started some 200 million years ago, and, the pieces "drifted" into their present positions around the globe. Wegener called attention to the fit of Atlantic rim of South America and the western rim of Africa, along with similarities in ancient climate, fossils (such as the fern Glossopteris and mesosaurus), and the similarity of rock structures. (Johnson, Charles William. 2001-2009 Copyrighted by Charles William Johnson. Retrieved HERE: Was Wegener Wrong? Tectonic Plates, Continental Drift and The Symmetry of the Continents Part One)
Trinity University in 1975, Geology Professor Gannon told us Mug-Wump Sophomores that "there were thousands of theories of tectonics... with about 700 theories gaining popularity." That alone told me that the future was not just around the bend, if I was to understand global continental drift. In 1975 Tectonics was still only a theory. So be it.

Today, my kids learn continental drift tectonics as a by-line in eighth grade geography. HA! Check out this site where you can build your own model: ODSN Plate Tectonic Reconstruction Service. [See: also This Dynamic Planet]

"Yeah, Dad, so what?" they say to me if I bring it up.
"It is difficult to suggest that the continents do not drift, or that the dozen or so tectonic plates that make up the Earth's surface do not collide. In fact, today's sophisticated, technological research findings reveal that continents and plates do collide producing mountain ranges, earthquakes, and many other manifestations in the geography of the Earth. The continental drift or shift is cited as representing a yearly movement of between 50mm and 90 mm. In terms of absolute measurement, that amount appears to be insignificant; in terms of geological time, the distance can be enormous..." (ibid)
South America east coast appears to fit right into Africa's west coast. Evidence on each other's coast shows similar deposits of minerals and geologic formations, as if split apart from an imaginary super size land mass.
"... [W]e shall not consider whether there is or is not movement of the continents, which appears to be empirically confirmed, but rather, how might that motion be interpreted as of the maps offered by different scientific sources today." (ibid)
Study of magnetic material originating from the ocean floor shows empirical data that the continents slide.
"Crucial to accepting the concept of steadily moving plates was the discovery in the 1950s that the Earth's magnetic field has reversed its polarity hundreds of times in the last 100 million years and many more times before that. As lava solidifies at ocean ridges, it becomes magnetized according to the polarity of the Earth's magnetic field when magnetic minerals pass through a particular temperature range (the Curie point; ~480C in magnetite). If the field's polarity is reversed, the basalt is magnetized in an opposite sense. As the ocean floor moves away from the ridges, these magnetized strips of rock are carried away on either side like a conveyer belt. This process is remarkably similar to that used in a magnetic tape recorders. (edu umich.  Regents of the University of Michigan retrieved today HERE)"
The lecturer goes on to summarize: "... it became obvious that the Earth's surface consisted of a mosaic of plates that were continually jostling one another. The rate at which they move ranges from 1-15 cm/year, which means 10-150 km/my*." *That's a rate in thousand years -- [m.y.].
"The layers of the Earth can be described in terms of their physical properties (e.g., lithosphere and asthenosphere). The behavior of seismic waves is dependent upon the phase of the material as well as its temperature. The patterns of the velocity of seismic waves through the Earth's interior provide us with a physical interpretation of the crust, mantle, and core as well as the location of the boundaries between these layers."

"The long-term benefits of plate tectonics should serve as a constant reminder to us that the planet Earth occupies a unique niche in our solar system. Appreciation of the concept of plate tectonics and its consequences has reinforced the notion that the Earth is an integrated whole, not a random collection of isolated parts. The global effort to better understand this revolutionary concept has helped to unite the earth-sciences community and to underscore the linkages between the many different scientific disciplines. As we enter the 21st century, when the Earth's finite resources will be further strained by explosive population growth, earth scientists must strive to better understand our dynamic planet. We must become more resourceful in reaping the long-term benefits of plate tectonics, while coping with its short-term adverse impacts, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions."
