NASHVILLE (WATE) - Education was the top priority for Governor of Tennessee Bill Haslam during his annual State of the State address Monday evening.

Can it be done? I suppose we will find out if the Governor gets his way.

Haslam makes education top priority in address: "Addressing a packed House chamber, Gov. Haslam announced what he called the "Tennessee Promise"; the plan allows for all high school students to get two years of college education for free. Those credits would then be allowed for transfer to a four-year institution. "The Tennessee Promise is an ongoing commitment to every student from every kindergartner to every high school senior. We will promise that he or she can attend two years of community college or a college of applied technology absolutely free," Haslam said."

To have a story line one needs a villain and a hero. It is true for any form of story telling. The referenced article mentions that believable villains do not exist in today's modern cinema. Depictions are not realistic, and tend to stereotype villain characters. Woe is me.

And I thought every villain is a master mind criminal, with a fortune hid away from his nemesis's. What the article suggests is that one needs an advanced psychology degree in order to characterize a realistic villain today.

This is why our editors in MooPig Education Department think it is a good time to start developing good villains in primary and secondary schools. "We should start our young thespians at an early age to make certain there are plenty of realistic villains available to cinema, Internet, and for what ever comes next," said R. B. Guiles, editor in chief of MooPig Education Department.

We would like to call our new "School of Plausible Villainry" the Maurice Strong School of Strong Villains. In due course, as people get piled higher and deeper college degrees, some will become authors of better villains, to go along with their unstrung heroes.

You take a child out of a nurturing elementary environ, force them into a factory setting, [middle school] while the child is going through puberty and trying to manage strong hormonal injections of estrogen and testosterone, while girls are starting their periods, and older kids and teachers are there like predators who pounce rather than nurture... it is no wonder that adolescents are psychotic, by definition they are so. Then make guns available from dad's collection, and bullets to boot... psychosis plus lots of guns equals disaster.

I have a suggestion: turn all the middle schools into farms. Introduce all middle schoolers to the wonder of animal husbandry and growing things.

Students learn math by studying hens laying eggs, and chemistry by milking cows, and about themselves while watching animals in cohabitation, and receive a liberal arts education watching animals reproduce.

Screw all the lawyers with there new-fangled CORE programmed learning, and STAR tests, and bullshit. Teachers today are referred to as "Facilitators." This is a crime against humanity.

Put America back in the agrarian state it belongs in. Put some backbone in our kids, instead of insidious, malfunctioning, brain drama.

Our lead, PD, commentator wrote a book in the 80's that was meant to depict the anti-christ, and his minions. The book was never published. Looking back on its pages, titled "Twerp and His Kin," brings to mind a certain urgency. Or, as a way of measuring progress, conversations in the book tell me we haven't progressed any.

To seek closure on the failed project is hopeless. Any observable condition of the characters that grow out of the book is by now over-done by reality itself; in cinema and TV, real life drama, and in family degradation. It would have led us into the next century leaving a trail of doubt, and hurt feelings. Oh, but that has already happened.

A good friend, Joe Holesworth, "Stratoblogster," pointed out this website: Exposing the Truth -- You Decide, HERE. It points out that many of us are thinking the same thing about Twerpdom, and have been for centuries.

Do we Have Enough Study Helps?

In the better homes you will find organization. Yes a good home is de-cluttered. Not mine. Nope. It is the opposite.

I have made home schooling into a variety store. I will surely burn in hell for this.

It turns out I cannot get enough "study helps" for my kids. It all started when I was doing substituting for Kindergarteners through 12th graders at the Pasadena Independent School District in Texas. I needed props for when I stood before another teacher's group of 5th graders, or got bogged down in discussions with know it all seniors at high school.

Here is one of those collectible pdf files available on Internet: The Peroiodic Table of the Elements, in Pictures. Truth is you can find tons of study helps online, but you can also find cool stuff in $dollar stores, clearance aisles, that cost a little bit. A little bit here, a little bit there, and all the funds from busting a move as the cool substitute-ness is all but spent. Yes, home-schooling is yet another American shopping event.

Here's my deal about this education conundrum. The bottle neck is the workforce. Without a prepared and capable workforce there is no industry. And, 300 million Americans in the Service or Entertainment Industries is afoul of everything we as a nation stand for.

EXCERPT | " ... The issue here is the lack of knowledge and experience of a high school student. Students are not equipped to choose a career at age 15. Just 7 years earlier, they probably wanted to be a doctor, teacher, firefighter, mail man, and astronaut all at once, while becoming a rockstar in their free time. My interests have had many different ebbs and flows since my days in high school, and I’m sure yours have too. A broad exposure to subject areas and the challenges within them is incredibly important in both high school and college, so why pick a profession at 15? ... "

I suggest you get rid of Middle Schools as they are organized today, and make them all into farms. You put a 14 year old on a farm and he or she will get the most liberal arts schooling known to this earth. Then you implement apprenticeships in those schools so that by the time the student is in decision mode later in high school, he has some experience in industry. SCREW the system, it sucks so bad it resembles a Hoover.

Besides how is anyone going to afford all those Services and Entertainments that a leisure-tronic society so desperately holds on to? We need workers who are unafraid, and privy to what it takes to "work." Education is the key to an internal lock mechanism in each boy and girl. If not properly turned, that key can lock up a person for his entire life.

One Day at the Middle School Bizarre...

This letter was sent to the principals office after a middle school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An old lady had received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize, and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all human kind. Forward to anyone you know who might need a lift today!

Dear Faculty and Students,
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens' luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at an assisted home for the aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to know someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and always had her own radio. Before I received this one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping. The other day, her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of little pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and finally I could say to that stingy bitch, fuck you.

Do you have pre-teens? I get these email notes from Pat2's teachers all year long. It has helped much in the management of a sixth grader's career. [for instance: JFK was shot when I was in Sixth grade].

Thus, out of respect, I have taken a back seat and let number six ride the waves more on his own, letting him feel the terror of forgetting assignments and articles of necessity -- while toting around the sum total of 12,000 years of human knowledge stored in his Apple Laptop, gratis Bryan Ind School District. All this before he hits the big top: High School.

So far it has not back-fired. I am grateful to the BISD 6th grade this year as they have partnered with Apple and given every incoming middle-schooler the laptop and network to use knowledge at all times. They received this pilot project as part of the enrichment program sponsored by higher ups... go figure.

Each child is born to his/her own time. I find much of my wanton desires is realized in the children I have been given. There are restrictions in their ability to access the Playboy or Playgirl sites, youTuber, and probably a lot of your sites... but I am very enriched by his experience.

Okay, so stop your crying, you don't have to worry so much about my youngun's. I know you all wonder how I could ever be of any use to a whipper snapper... but I am telling you this: I am the one who is learning! And that is how its done.
