The midwives repeated the ritual every time they delivered one of the three baby boys born just after South Sudan became a brand new independent nation.
QUIST-ARCTON: This little boy you hear crying had only just been born. But the number one baby has already got his name.

Southerners voted to split in two Africa's largest nation by area in a January referendum that was the culmination of a 2005 peace deal ending decades of civil war between north and south. Some 2 million people died in the conflict.
