BusinessDay - KATY CHANCE: Metrosexuals all need to man-up:
I don’t know about you, but I am totally over the metrosexual man
KATY CHANCE  Published: 2012/02/02 10:34:28 AM

I DON’T know about you, but I am totally over the metrosexual man. (This without ever being under one.) If you are a metrosexual yourself, please understand the fact that I find you as attractive as puff pastry is not personal.

I have long pooh-poohed the idea that there are primal cerebral and evolutionary reasons for men needing to hunt and gather (women) and women needing to keep the home-fires burning and breed (male offspring, if they knew what was good for them), because humans have simply evolved beyond that. Or at least most women have. We don’t need men to care for us (although a little help would be appreciated, frankly!) and more and more women (in the western world, anyway) are choosing to be single mothers. That these smug women then complain about how hard being a single mother/social martyr is makes me furious, but that is a topic for another diatribe.

I have a dream: there will come a time when the men will be men and the women will once again be grateful. A time when the working of heavy machinery and backwashing the pool will be the sole domain of men. Real men. Men with just a hint of dirt under their nails. Men who scoff at quiche, both its making and eating. Men who wouldn’t be caught dead reading a column that uses the term pooh-poohed. (KATY CHANCE. Published: 2012/02/02)

Police: School bus dispatcher was bank robbery getaway driver | www.wftv.com:
Reynolds-Bell has worked for Orange County public schools for nearly 24 years. Now, the alleged bank robber is suspended with pay, which means she gets $17.20 per hour.
Police said Reynolds-Bell, a longtime school bus dispatcher, was also a getaway driver for her husband.
"I'm not guilty. And that's all I have to say, according to my lawyer," said Reynolds-Bell. (wftv.com.9. ORLANDO, Fla. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 HERE) ... "
Some questions come to mind. How is it that this bus dispatcher is not guilty of helping to rob a bank? If you drop off a bank robber, and then pick them up as they leave the bank with stolen property, isn't that traditionally part of this type drama?

For sure, it seems very unlikely that a story like this could actually happen in the 21st century ... haven't the robbers seen any bank robbery movies, TV shows, or more recently, TARP?

Mash me up and pile on, I am speechless. Maybe I need to re-read, and find more detail. Did this couple wake up one day and just decide to go out and "rob a bank?" Or did it happen as the suspect getaway driver says, "she is not guilty." She claims she did not find out about her husband's robbing the bank until much later.

When Van Gogh, the Dutch painter, cut off his ear and gave it to his girlfriend, and then did a self-portrait of his bandaged head ... his act had a certain build up. Over time Van Gogh became mentally disturbed enough to play out the deed of self-mutilation.

Don't the robbers realize their troubles are self-inflicted?

But what build up led this couple to rob a bank, and fail so deservedly at it? There is mention by some neighbors that the couple had been arguing over money. Nonetheless, they have certainly given the grand old profession of bank robbery a real bad name. They are a stain on a much revered literary plot, robbing the bank.

Stick 'em up!
" ... Police say that Sharon Reynolds-Bell, who has worked for the Orange County School District for nearly 24 years, was behind the wheel of the car that aided her husband, Johnny Bell, in robbing a TD Bank branch in Titusville, according to Orlando TV station WFTV. (HERE) ... "

MooPig's Predictions Department :: "December 22, 2012"

MooPig Predictions Department is 75% [+\-] 3% sure that there will be a multitude of out-of-work actors and actresses on December 22, 2012. It will be precluded by previous irrational casting of thousands to play extras in Zombie movies, a genre that will dissipate.

As far as unemployment rates, housing starts, tsunamis, quakes, zero population growth, presidential election, and internet freedom, and stuff, MooPig relies on web sites that fill in those predictions for this year, 2012.

Try this LINK for grins.

Kodachrome, Mrs Robinson...?

[A story by Pamela Norman]  ... "Just read this in another group and just couldn't resist......"

The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife goodbye and said, 'Well, I'm off now. The man should be here soon.'

Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. 'Good morning, Ma'am', he said, 'I've come to...'

'Oh, no need to explain,' Mrs.. Smith cut in, embarrassed, 'I've been expecting you.'

'Have you really?' said the photographer. 'Well, that's good. Did you know babies are my specialty?'

'Well that's what my husband and I had hoped. Please come in and have a seat !.

After a moment she asked, blushing, 'Well, where do we start?'

'Leave everything to me.. I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch, and perhaps a couple on the bed. And sometimes the living room floor is fun. You can really spread out there.'

'Bathtub, living room floor? No wonder it didn't work out for Harry and me!'

'Well, Ma'am, none of us can guarantee a good one every time. But if we try several different positions and I shoot from six or seven angles, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.'

'My, that's a lot!', gasped Mrs. Smith.

'Ma'am, in my line of work a man has to take his time. I'd love to be In and out in five minutes, but I'm sure you'd be disappointed with that.'

'Don't I know it,' said Mrs. Smith quietly.

The photographer opened his briefcase and pulled out a portfolio of his baby pictures. 'This was done on the top of a bus,' he said.

'Oh, my God!' Mrs. Smith exclaimed, grasping at her throat.

'And these twins turned out exceptionally well - when you consider their mother was so difficult to work with..'

'She was difficult?' asked Mrs. Smith.

'Yes, I'm afraid so. I finally had to take her to the park to get the job done right. People were crowding around four and five deep to get a good look'

'Four and five deep?' said Mrs. Smith, her eyes wide with amazement.

'Yes', the photographer replied. 'And for more than three hours, too. The mother was constantly squealing and yelling - I could hardly concentrate, and when darkness approached I had to rush my shots. Finally, when the squirrels began nibbling on my equipment, I just had to pack it all in.'

Mrs. Smith leaned forward. 'Do you mean they actually chewed on your, uh...equipment?'

'It's true, Ma'am, yes.. Well, if you're ready, I'll set-up my tripod and we can get to work right away..'
'Tripod?'

'Oh yes, Ma'am. I need to use a tripod to rest my Canon on. It's much too big to be held in the hand very long.'

Mrs.. Smith fainted!

In coming decades will we: discover that we are not alone in the universe? Unravel the physiological basis for consciousness? Routinely have false memories implanted in our minds? Begin to evolve in new directions? And will physicists finally hit upon a universal theory of everything? In fact, if the revelations of the last 50 years are anything to go on - the internet and the human genome for example - we probably have not even thought up the exciting advances that lay ahead of us.

From the Picture at the top:
BBC News - Alzheimer's brain plaques 'rapidly cleared' in mice: "Specialists said the results were promising, but warned that successful drugs in mice often failed to work in people.

Researchers Paige Cramer said: "This is an unprecedented finding. Previously, the best existing treatment for Alzheimer's disease in mice required several months to reduce plaque in the brain."

The exact cause of Alzheimer's remains unknown, but one of the leading theories involves the formation of clumps of a protein called beta-amyloid. These damage and kill brain cells, eventually resulting in memory problems and the inability to think clearly."

We rented the movie, A Dolphin's Tale, and the distaff watched it last night. It brought lots of mixed emotion to them. How marine life affects us is always entertaining, but this story really smashes all other dolphin stories. In short, an injured dolphin heals children and affects social reform. Also, she, Winter the dolphin, arrests real estate over-development. What? Yes, you have to watch the movie.

" ... On a cold December of 2005, a three-month old bottlenose dolphin calf found herself caught in crab trap in Mosquito Lagoon, Florida. She was later rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in serious condition. The staff who was caring for her did not expect her to survive, but she instead defied all odds.

Today, Winter the Dolphin resides at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, FL where this tailless dolphin not only serves as an ambassador for her species, but continues to inspire millions of people around the world to love and care for dolphins. ... "

Podium Legs technology isn't like your old compression socks. Compare it instead to a professional recovery massage.

The leg cuffs go from your foot or ankle (depending on your height) all the way up your thigh, with 4 air chambers that fill in sequence, gradually compressing each muscle group in your legs and feet, and then repeating, to increase circulation, and flush the lactic acid from your legs after a tough workout.

Choose from different cycles of 15 minutes each, with multiple power levels, and point massage options for problem areas.

**Bonus Brewing Method (For those coffee enthusiasts who have read this far) – The coffee siphon is an old method of coffee brewing that is now making a resurgence among diehard coffee fans. The method virtually eliminates the usual acidity found in most coffee brews and leaves an almost sweet taste that’s full of flavor. Google it, ask your local coffee expert about it, but definitely try it out. ( SCHAEFER on AUGUST 3, 2009. LINK )

Racing aboard the Great Lakes schooner Denis Sullivan - latimes.com:
Participants do the jobs that 19th century sailors did as this replica navigates Lake Superior's unpredictable waters.

By Karin Winegar, Special to the Los Angeles Times
January 22, 2012
EXCERPT  "  ... Reporting from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.— At dawn on the dock, a few sailors kiss spouses and dogs goodbye. Then we muster on the quarterdeck: 17 crew (nine volunteers and eight professional sailors) ranging from a 19-year-old South Carolina college student to a 76-year-old Michigan farmer.
I have cruised the South Pacific, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean on the most luxurious ships afloat and have been crew on sailing and racing sailboats for decades in inland lakes, the Great Lakes and the Caribbean. As a volunteer on a tall ship, however, I knew I'd have a rare chance to learn classic skills and be part of a genuine adventure. I was leaving private staterooms, spa treatments and five-star table service far behind. Now I would sleep below decks in a narrow bunk, stand watch, eat shoulder to shoulder and scrub the galley afterward; it sounded grand. ..."
Tuft of thundercloud trailing anvil head,
For a moment dove eating crumb of bread
From bronze rail before flight
With point on horizon to sight
Full wind, full rudder churns freshwater white.

Out to quiet sailing had set we
With jib and full sail cast
As have sturdy fellows past.

I could hear almost the Old Salt
From his boat in briny harbor forgot
Talking as frapped his rope
'... Bloody Lake Mich, choppy old moat,
'... Choppy when the wind blows,
'... Meaner'n a blistered nanny goat.'

Leaning with gaunt arm bare
Upon bronze gunwale, pushing aside thick hair,
Squinting ignobly in bright sun-glare
With meaty fingers tugs at pipe there
Aboard chapped lips points to east horizon
Of inland mare, fashions scowl for his next quip
As great barrier of clouds form at fast clip

'... Tha' water my life did I impart,
'... Not much left for Almighty God to sort.'

Flipping pocket flap open like a hatch
Wriggling fingers while digging for a match
To strike against all that scratch
Of a standard jaw, put he then pipe to pucker,
Match to pipe bowl, sucked he flame to tobacco;

Returning to his task murmuring just audible
Pipe clenched tightly in teeth and jaw
Spatted he to indicate his final card
Whispering as puckers he a humid draw:

'... Wha'cha gonna do ... Wha's one to do ...
'... Wha' character does she reflect when tide low
'... How can tide pool stand for long
'... in ancient thirsty sand?'

Calm smile now on his face in half shadow ...

'... To where my life depart; to live a mariner
'... For what did I impart these hands?'

I remember sail cloth masted, trimmed taut
To gather wind for friends at steady knot
A chance to depart on lake large as a sea
And to cross horizon in time eternity
With promise for life, love and for loss.

Susan Drangstveit :: The Sesame Street bus had a new driver and he asked the kids to introduce themselves as they got on. The first two girls were really huge and both of them were named Patty. The next student said "Hi. I'm Ross and I'm special." The last kid said, "I'm Lester Peas." He promptlly sat down and began picking at his feet. Dispatch called and asked the driver how it was going. His reply? I've got two all beef Pattys, Special Ross, Lester Peas picking bunions on the Sesame Street bus.

John Evans :: An African chief was feeling very sick, so he summoned the witch doctor to his hut. After a brief examination, the medicine man cut off a thong of antelope hide from his belt and gave it to the chief, instructing him to bite off, chew, and swallow one inch of leather every day. After one month, the witch doctor returned, and asked how the chief was feeling. The chief answered, "The thong is ended, but the malady lingers on."

MooPig's Report from the Middle: "Can You Believe this S**t?"

FBI had Investigated Steve Jobs for Volunteering to Help, Was Steve a Bad Apple???
Snipped by Pat Darnell | Feb 11, 2012 | Bryan TX

[Snippet HERE]

Government Snoops Blast Steve Jobs | John C. Dvorak | PCMag.com: "Asking unnamed workers about the boss is useless gossip. Asking rivals about their rival is useless gossip. Putting the useless gossip in such a record is a misuse of the public trust, period."

'via Blog this'
So a 191-page report on a prospective member that already had a Top Secret clearance seems rather dubious. In fact, I'm surprised Jobs put up with the interviews and didn't throw out the FBI investigators when they began to grill him about his drug use, which he admitted to. I'd like to know why they didn't take his statement as a confession and throw him in jail on the spot.
So now, we get to see the late Steve Jobs' name dragged through the mud after cooperatively agreeing to do public service.
The lesson here: Don't volunteer for anything. (John C. Dvorak. February 10, 2012)
Conclusion
That's MooPig's Report from the Middle -- where men are good looking, women are strong, and the children are all above average: And John C. Dvorak of PC Magazine is one of our favorite authors....

US Banks settle for $26B; consumer advocates wary

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Feb 11, 2012 | Bryan TX
The $26 billion represents a significant settlement, but it clearly won't stagger the banks too much. Together, the four banks mentioned above took in a total profit of $47.6 billion in 2011. It's not as if the banks will be paying the settlements out of pure profits, either; they've all set aside a fair amount of capital to pay for their mistakes. Still it's telling that the banks will be paying just about half of their annual profits to walk away from the foreclosure mess. (2/9/2012 . Daniel Pereira. HERE)
Three questions come to mind:
  1. What is the Legal thing to do?
  2. What is the Right thing to do?
  3. Who gains from the decision?
" ... Kentucky attorney Jack Conway gestures as he announces Kentucky's inclusion in the Joint State-Federal Mortgage Servicing Settlement Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at his office in Frankfort, Ky. Conway said $58.8 million of the nation-wide $25 billion would come to Kentucky. / (AP /John Flavell) ... " Kentucky’s share in the settlement amounts to $58.8 million, while Indiana’s is $145 million. ..."
"... The deal with 49 of the 50 states requires five of the largest banks to reduce loans for about 1 million households at risk of foreclosure. The lenders also will send checks of $2,000 to about 750,000 Americans who were improperly foreclosed upon. The banks will have three years to fulfill the terms of the deal. ( Feb. 9, 2012. HERE) ... "
" ... He [Conway, DA, KY] called it “a first step in holding banks accountable for the mortgage foreclosure crisis” and stressed that the settlement doesn’t limit states’ rights to pursue further civil or criminal actions against banks. It also does not limit homeowners’ ability to bring legal action against banks, he said. ... "
The attorneys general set up a website — www.nationalforeclosuresettlement.com — and encouraged homeowners to wait to hear from their banks over the next nine months or to call the banks and ask about their eligibility. It will take about three years for the settlement agreement to be fulfilled.

Moopig's Conclusion
" ... The $26 billion settlement helps. But it's a long way from healing the grievous wounds left by the crisis and the fraud. ... "
1. The banks committed fraud when they let their paperwork overwhelm them. In recent past, Banks started signing off on foreclosures that were illegal. How to make that legal? Every foreclosure must be reviewed. This is a nightmare for the property owners and mortgage companies and the litigation is mind boggling. [We would be better off if some of these lenders bellied up anyway.]
2. Cancel every foreclosure that was imposed from the era discussed, that seems the most righteous thing to do. Go back and declare moratoriums on all those trumped foreclosures. That would put a cost of $800 billion on the deal, more in line with the crimes committed.
3. State Governments will prosper from this lawsuit as millions pour into their coffers. And that is money for the local politicians.  Confusion on who will receive the paltry $2k per damaged mortgagee, that is proposed, will make a few local yokels richer.
