MooPig Horse Bits :: "Eating Horse - A Modest Proposal"

Scooped by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 27, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

In our quest to be clever in the face of bombast, MooPig has recently stumbled upon a situation. Europeans have been mixing horse meat with their beef and selling it to the public to eat. And much of the horse meat comes from exported American horses.

We may be opening Pandora's lunchbox here, as beef shortages are reported, that Americans might have to start eating some horse themselves. Be warned.

What we are warning about is that Monsanto might have already purchased all the patents and copy rights on all horse meat. Yes, they are usually way ahead of the curve when it comes to malnutrition. Can horses be the new genetically modified meat source? And, when that source is depleted, what is next?
Jonathan Swift - A Modest Proposal: "”I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled, and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout. ...”"
Are nations looking for easy answers to complex problems? You bet they are. It's a classic tale, feed the poor with the poor, feed the rich with the poor... it's the circle of the rich, for the rich, by the rich.
I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children. (Jonathan Swift (1667-1745). LINK)

NEXT WEEK  :: The next big thing -- Australians are about to discover that they've been eating a combination of emu, roo, and lamb as "beef" for years -- which probably explains why Australian life expectancy is so much better than American, British or Canadian life expectancy. Eh?

UC Irvine professor stops teaching online course in dispute - latimes.com: "Gary Matkin, UC Irvine's dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning and Summer Session, said in a statement that McKenzie is "not accustomed [as few are] in teaching university-level material to an open, large and quite diverse audience, including those who were not seriously committed to achieving the learning objectives of the course or who decided not to or could not gain access to supplemental learning materials." Future lessons and assignments, as developed by McKenzie, will continue to be presented, Matkin said."

The action by Richard A. McKenzie, an emeritus professor in the UC Irvine business school, highlights the uncertainties faculty face in adapting traditional face-to-face classes to the emerging universe of Massive Open Online Courses, known as MOOCs.

Under the Coursera model, much of the grading is automatic or performed by fellow students. Professors videotape lectures in advance and often comment in general on message boards without answering questions. Although enrollment is free, Coursera charges students $30 to $99 for a completion certificate.
" ... The big story this week is that Coursera is in talks with the American Council on Education to grant degrees for online classes offered through the network of MOOC courses that are currently free and not-for-credit. For that to happen, the parties would have to ensure they could prevent cheating and meet other academic standards. Colleges would also have to decide whether they accept Coursera credits. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the review and several other MOOC ... -related developments. -(Wired Academic on Thursday, November 15, 2012.  LINK) ... "

MooPig Tech Coroner :: "Free Energy Devices"

[Picture LINK] Paramahansa Tewari, a graduate in Electrical Engineering from Banaras Engineering College, India, is the first Indian to get a Free Energy device patented. An increased efficiency homopolar generator.

Collective-Evolution – Free Energy Devices: Yes They Are Real: "People are waking up to the fact that not everything on planet Earth is as it seems, and new truths are starting to infiltrate the consciousness of the masses. It is very likely that free energy devices do exist and like many other discoveries, they have been concealed and hidden from the human race. The energy is extracted from what we call ‘space time’, it’s the energy all around us that we can’t see. A device like this cannot have a meter on it, it can’t be measured and  no price tag can be put on it. "

  'via Blog this'
Journey through every day for a while as it is reported on the Internet, and at some point in your travel something amazing will come clear. What ever you were brought up believing is very far from the truth.

If you fail to take the journey, you will find yourself in a place of isolation. You see, it is low tech ideas holding up our societies. For instance, Japanese support their high tech industry by a low tech technique called saving forty percent of their money. That's forty rin on the Yen is put away into savings by Japanese in their daily trek.

Americans support high tech food industry by eating. Industry supports utilities by paying meters. Yes, behind every high tech machine is a low tech reason for existence.

And, every institution can be upended by a low tech reason. The music industry is today nonexistent because patrons decided to burn their own tapes, and CD's. It does not mean that people quit listening, it means they found an almost free source of music.

If it became clear to people that electricity is all around us as an almost free source, we would gather it from the ground. The best reason for our Tech Industry to me is that humans are basically hunters/gatherers, a very old low tech concept. We want to gather our own stuff from the earth, it's basic instinct.
" ... This can mean that a free energy device is a threat to the industry that controls our world and the people on it, the energy industry. The energy industry dictates who has access to life and who doesn't  If you look at where the funding comes from, it’s easy to make connections between the energy, pharmaceutical, health, food and educational industries. Let’s take a look at what has been concealed from us and what’s becoming increasingly transparent. (ARJUN. DECEMBER 4, 2012. LINK) ... "
Tewari, a senior engineer with India's Department of Atomic Energy-Nuclear Power Corporation, also directs the Kaiga Project, India's largest atomic power facility, in Karnataka. He freely acknowledges his debt to DePalma, who has shared his experimental results with Tewari for many years. According to Tewari, "The electrical power generated by the Space Power Generator is indeed commercially viable and should be brought to the notice of the general public." (ARJUN. DECEMBER 4, 2012. Bruce Eldridge De Palma, a well known figure in the Free Energy suppression community for his invention, the N-machine Homopolar generator, a device based on the Faraday disc which is reported to produce up to five times the energy required to run it. After Bruce's death his research was discontinued. A close friend of Bruce, Paramahamsa Tewari had been under some instruction and was in partnership with Bruce to produce the N machines. (ARJUN. Can This "Health Food" Shrink Your Manhood?

Dear Patdarnell,

It really gets my goat that they're getting you to eat this stuff.

Is this "healthy" chicken sandwich a
threat to your manhood?

Like that grilled chicken sandwich that they've been telling you is so good for you...

Eat enough of them and they'll turn you into a plump, moody, weepy female.

And the veggie burgers? Don't get me going. They're even worse.

No joke.

These fake health foods can take away everything that makes life great for a man.

But there's an easy way to get up every morning and feel charged, optimistic and confident again. Ambitious and full of energy.

My patients who have experienced this are some of my happiest, and are on top of their game again.

Let me show you what I mean...

The average chicken sandwich comes from chickens that are pumped full of the hormones that your body thinks are estrogen.

That veggie burger, too. Soy products are highly estrogenic.

Estrogen is what makes a woman a woman... but too much can "feminize" a man, and start to turn him into a woman.

Commercial beef, poultry and soy products are a HUGE source of this fake estrogen. Add cheese? That's more estrogen. Add some bacon? Even more.

That lettuce, tomato that are supposed to be so "healthy"? Yep, you guessed it, more fake estrogen in the form of chemicals sprayed on your vegetables while they're still in the ground.

These fake estrogens have a structure that makes them a dead ringer for the real thing... and your body can't tell the difference. I call them "estrogen mimics."

Ketchup has ingredients that have the same effect. Even the grain in your sandwich bun is tainted.

And the more estrogen that gets into your blood, the more your manhood shrinks. That means more belly fat, your energy tanks and your sex life goes the way of the woolly mammoth.

Is this a scientific fact? No, not yet, because the medical establishment has refused to invest the money to do the tests necessary to prove this. But do I believe it's true? Absolutely. And I'll tell you why...

I Bet Your Doctor Never Told You This...

There are almost no clinical trials that have studied estrogen dominance and its effects. Truth is, most doctors don't even realize excess estrogen is the "hidden cause" of the problems a lot of guys face every day.

Don't be fooled... veggie burgers made with soy could "feminize" your body.

Clinical trials are helpful, but there are problems with relying only on what you read in a handful of medical journals.

Modern medicine often gets hung up on these placebo trials and completely ignores the evidence right in front of them.

Just like they ignore the oldest systems of medicine in the world even though they have thousands of years of real-world trials behind them.

And today, science lags as many as 15 years behind what doctors in practice know.

In the case of estrogen dominance, it's been more than 20 years, and modern science still hasn't gotten around to studying this effect that only I and a few other doctors have caught on to.

That's how long ago I started seeing a connection between estrogen mimics in the environment and complaints from my male patients about low energy and a softening of their male features.

So I started to research for myself when I realized what was beginning to happen in today's world. As a doctor, I knew I had to do something about this completely new problem. So I came up with a solution to address it.

Since then, I've been helping men use this one simple approach that helps reduce and begin to wipe out the effects of too much estrogen. I've helped thousands of men keep their true strength, vitality and ability to perform.

That's a two-decade, real-world trial right there.

And I believe, from my success with men in my clinic that this solution can quickly restore your estrogen levels to a healthy balance, starting you back on the road to a lean body and a focused mind.

STAND UP And Reclaim Your Power As A Man

It doesn't matter what condition you're in now. I've seen it all. And I've fully restored men you might consider "lost causes."

One patient, who we'll call "P.L.", came to my clinic complaining of 4 out of the 5 classic symptoms of what I call "estrogen dominance." He was chronically tired, emotionally out of sorts, had a beer belly, a double chin and was losing his ability to perform.

When I checked his testosterone, it was down to 384, a level you'd expect to see in an old man. (At the time, P.L. was in his early 40s.) Also not a surprise, his estrogen was close to 200, which is more than most women.

Here's the bottom line: Estrogen makes you fat. That's why they give it to farm animals. It starts with a smooth layer of fat under the skin that robs you of muscle definition. Then it grows into a fat belly, a round face and "man boobs."

In P.L.'s case, he only weighed 175 pounds but was carrying a lot of body fat (35%). That's technically obese, but he didn't really look "overweight," just bloated and out of shape.

But look what happened when I gave him my estrogen "antidote."

Body Composition Chart

% of Body Fat 35%

29% 22% 15%

Pounds of Body Fat
58 51 37 28

Lean Body Mass
108 125 133 157

Look at the top line. His body fat percentage went from 35% all the way down to a much leaner 15%.

The middle line, "pounds of fat," shows the amount of fat he was carrying went from 58 pounds down to a more manageable 28.

And on the last line, his "lean body mass," which measures how much muscle you have, went up from 108 to 157.

After three months, his estrogen dropped and his testosterone started to rise. Plus he built 49 pounds of muscle and lost 30 pounds of fat.

Kick Excess Estrogen To The Curb And
Get Your Manhood Back NOW

As an MD who is also an ACE certified fitness instructor, coach and consultant to professional athletes, I know how to keep men it top condition. In fact, I've built my reputation on it.

Like the thousands of men who come to my clinic for help... including guys like "P.L."... I'll show you EXACTLY how my strategy works and how it can put YOU back in the saddle again.

First, let me show you what we're up against.

It's Not Just In Your Food...
Estrogen Is A Staple Of Our Plastic World

You don't see it, feel it or taste it... but estrogen gets into your blood every day.

Sometimes it's in the food you eat, sometimes it's in the plastic products you use. But whether you know it or not, there's a steady stream of this feminizing hormone getting into your bloodstream.

As you've already seen, ranchers in the meat and poultry industries inject their cattle and chickens with estrogen to "fatten them up," and speed up the time it takes them to reach "maturity."

And every time you eat a burger or chicken sandwich made from these animals, you're likely getting the estrogen that animal had when it was slaughtered.

Even the soy products are to blame, as any soy product that has not been fermented is highly estrogenic. (The fermented products like soy sauce and tofu are the exceptions.)

What may be ever worse, modern industry produces thousands of chemicals that get into your everyday environment. And the majority of these chemicals and compounds mimic the female hormone estrogen.

The problem is that many of these chemicals have a molecular structure that closely resembles the female hormone estrogen.

When these estrogen look-a-likes get into your bloodstream, they attach to estrogen receptors and give your cells a new set of feminizing instructions.

You see, your receptors are like "landing pads" on the surface of your cells that receive incoming nutrients and information.

And when these "estrogen mimics" bind with your cells' receptors, your cells don't realize it's a chemical and not the real thing. And in response to these new "messages," your body gradually rebuilds itself to become more feminine.

One of the first signs of excess estrogen is increased fat deposition in your breast and belly. But long before you get "man boobs," most men will get a gradual "softening."

First, you may develop a soft, "dough boy" appearance as your muscle is replaced by fat. Over time, you may start to lose your masculine edge, your confidence and sense of purpose. You may feel tired or moody and your bedroom performance may not be as strong as it used to be.

Ever Use A Plastic Bag Or Drink From A Plastic Cup?

Plastic is by far the worst offender... and in today's world, plastic is almost impossible to avoid. Chemicals like the widely publicized "bisphenol A" or BPA are highly estrogenic and found in almost all plastic products.

Other countries around the world have banned BPA, but it's still a favorite in the US. And aside from the obvious dangers of plastic, big industry puts thousands of chemicals into the items you use everyday.

Here are just a few examples:

  • Vinyl flooring
  • Detergents
  • Shampoo
  • Soaps
  • Deodorants
  • Garden hoses
  • Pesticides
  • Fertilizers

These estrogen look-a-likes are waging war on your masculinity. They attack your testosterone. This gradually saps your strength, muscle, ambition, competitive spirit and sexual performance.

But there's an "estrogen antidote" I use with my male patients that helps support a healthy balance of estrogen and helps you reclaim your natural masculine energy and body type.

EstroCleanse is easy to use and goes to work right away. The key ingredients transform the feminizing estrogen into a "neutral" form.

That means you can easily minimize the feminizing force of estrogen so you have an easier time when you:

  • Want to boost muscle mass.
  • Start to slim down and get rid of your "spare tire."
  • Begin to ramp up your endurance in and out of the bedroom.
  • Get back into the game with more ambition, more energy and more confidence.

EstroCleanse is safe and natural, too. In fact, these powerful estrogen-neutralizing compounds come from vegetables.

Use My Phytonutrient Secret To Zap Estrogen

Published research over last ten years suggests you can neutralize excess estrogen with extracts from "crucifers," a group of vegetables including broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage.

Here's why: The way estrogen is "metabolized" or broken down in your body is critical to how it acts when it gets into your bloodstream.

Certain compounds found in cruciferous vegetables turn the "feminizing" estrogen into a more beneficial version. One of the best compounds is indole-3-carbinol (I3C), a phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli.

When you eat a vegetable like broccoli, your body breaks it down into multiple compounds, one of which is I3C.

I3C helps convert the less-desirable "feminizing" estrogens into neutral or even helpful estrogens such as 2-hydroxyestrone.

Studies published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and the Journal of Endocrinology support the ability of I3C to convert the "bad" estrogen into a neutral metabolite.1,2

When I3C gets to your digestive tract, part of it converts into diindolylmethane (DIM), another "estrogen neutralizer."

Together, I3C and DIM play an active role in clearing your body of excess estrogen.

Not only does this simple solution help promote a healthy balance of estrogen, it helps promote a healthy testosterone to estrogen ratio, which can lead to maintaining the energy, power and performance men feel when they're younger.

Feel Strong And On Top Of The World

As a certified ACE fitness instructor and coach to professional athletes, my first priority is optimizing a man's testosterone to estrogen ratio.

Your ratio of testosterone to estrogen should be at least 4:1. That's four parts testosterone to one part estrogen. The higher your ratio, the more masculine you'll look and feel.

To really feel strong and on top of the world, it's better to get closer to 8:1.

But these days, a lot of guys have ratios that are below 4:1. Once you fall below 4:1, you'll start to experience the depressing and power-robbing symptoms of "estrogen dominance."

Aside from EstroCleanse, there are also other ways to boost your testosterone and lower your estrogen so you can keep your strength and manhood...

These are techniques I use with my male patients that help them increase their sexual performance... maintain well-defined muscles... strengthen their heart's pumping power... keep a normally-functioning prostate... and more.

If someone in a Lowe's store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you may live in Texas;

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Texas;

If 'Vacation' means going anywhere south of Dallas for the weekend, you may live in Texas;

If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Texas;

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Texas;

If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in Texas;

MooPig Human Rights Update :: Feeding Intolerance: Prohibitions on Sharing Food with People Experiencing Homelessness

Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 20, 2013  |  Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]

Some proponents of food sharing restrictions have argued that sharing food with people in outdoor locations enables them to remain homeless.

More likely, persons who receive food from outdoor food programs may remain homeless due to lack of affordable housing, shelter space, and services, or due to their struggles with physical or psychiatric disabilities or substance addiction.

Instead of removing food sources, cities would more likely reduce or end homelessness in their cities by finding solutions to the underlying causes of homelessness.

Framing sharing food as a factor in enabling people to remain homeless is misleading. Food is not an addiction; food is necessary for survival.

Depriving a person of food means that she must put all of her energy into obtaining food and less energy on improving other aspects of her life. Food sharing programs that reach out to those in public spaces may be the only way some homeless individuals can obtain healthy and safe food.

Feeding Intolerance: Prohibitions on Sharing Food with People Experiencing Homelessness: A Report by The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and The National Coalition for the Homeless 15nov2007: "The right to food is a well-recognized human right. This basic human right is explicitly mentioned in the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights and over 120 instruments of international law.

13 Twenty-two countries have included a right to food in their domestic constitutions.

14 As the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food has stated, a nation must refrain from taking “actions that result in increasing levels of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.”

15 Food sharing restrictions deny homeless persons this basic human right. Placing restrictions on food sharing at a time where there is an increased need for housing and food assistance leaves many people with nowhere to turn for basic survival needs."

'via Blog this'
CONCLUSION
Make your own conclusions. As politicians try to invent lackey ways to deal with high density urban problems, like homelessness, those same politicians are diminishing your and my freedoms.

These laws to prohibit feeding the homeless on city streets come with hefty fines and prolonged visits to jail. It is personal, and in your face.

Having something to eat is a basic human right.

MooPig FWD Email :: "Criminalization of Us"

You Might be Committing a Felony at This Very Moment ... | Uncommon Wisdom Daily: "How many felonies have you committed today? The answer may surprise you. That’s because, if you’re like most Americans, you probably violate federal or state law several times each day — without even knowing it.

The “criminalization” of American law is nothing new. But most citizens don’t realize just how frequently their state and federal governments expand the list of activities that are considered criminal offenses.

But it’s not just adults being targeted. More recently, children attending public schools have been deemed criminals as well. Sounds absurd, right? Trust me, we haven’t even yet scratched the surface …"

'via Blog this'

Have You ‘Defaced a Hamburger’ Lately?

In Las Vegas, you can be thrown in jail for spilling a drink in a nightclub. That’s what happened to Justin O’Connell last summer. Apparently a bouncer watched O’Connell spill his drink and then asked him to leave. O’Connell then asked for his $30 cover charge back. The nightclub then called police, who escorted O’Connell to jail. He now faces criminal trespassing charges.

Here are some other criminal offenses in Las Vegas (and many other cities, for that matter):

  • Sitting or lying down on public sidewalks in the downtown redevelopment district.

  • Buying drinks for more than three people within 24 hours.

  • Feeding the homeless in public. Incidentally, it’s also illegal to feed pigeons.

  • Pawning your dentures.

  • Defacing a hamburger, by leaving its contents anywhere in public.

  • Jaywalking.

We hope Warren Buffett enjoyed that hamburger … and properly disposed of it when he was done!

That’s the tip of the criminalization iceberg. Have you ever purchased sinus medication over the counter? Well, so did Diane Avera, a 45-year-old Mississippi grandmother. Now she faces a year in prison after being convicted of intent to manufacture amphetamine.

It’s a long story, but basically, Mississippi law requires a prescription to purchase pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient in many sinus medications. To save time and aggravation, Avera drove to Alabama to purchase her medication, but got caught up in a sting operation.

It’s no wonder the United States has by far the world’s largest prison population per capita anywhere on earth. More people rot in local, county, state or federal prisons in the United States than in all other developed countries combined.

According to the World Prison Population List, Ninth Edition (2012): “More than 10.1 million people are held in penal institutions throughout the world, mostly as pretrial detainees/remand prisoners or as sentenced prisoners.

Almost half of these are in the United States (2.29 million), Russia (0.81 million) or China (1.65 million sentenced prisoners) … “The U.S. has the highest prison population rate of 743 per 100,000 of its national population followed by Rwanda (595 per 100,000).”

Paraphrasing President Obama, “Yes we can … put you in prison!” Even more disturbingly, the criminalization of America is now creeping into high schools, junior high schools … and most recently, even kindergarten classes.

Last month, a 5-year-old boy (from Mississippi … again!) wound up in the back of a police car because he didn’t wear the right color shoes to class. His teacher told him he had to wear black shoes. Unfortunately, the little boy had no black shoes, and his mother apparently didn’t have the money to buy any. So she improvised. She used a marker to cover up his red-and-white tennis shoes. Unfortunately, she missed a couple of spots.

When the boy showed up at school the next day, his teacher called the cops. Shortly thereafter, police escorted him home in a police car and delivered a stern warning to his mother.

Apparently, this is “business as usual” in Mississippi.

Indeed, the U.S. Justice Department recently filed a lawsuit against officials in one Mississippi county for running what critics call a school-to-prison pipeline.

You’ll hopefully excuse me from making a couple observations: Anyone can inadvertently run afoul of America’s metastasizing network of criminal laws. Spilling a drink in a nightclub is hardly what anyone would consider a criminal offense. Neither is purchasing medication over-the-counter. Once you have a criminal record, especially a felony conviction, you’ll find it much more difficult to live outside the United States, or to acquire a second citizenship and passport.

Not to belabor the obvious, but if you have any interest at all in establishing a second nationality, don’t wait until some inadvertent slip-up results in an arrest and possible felony conviction.

Contact me today for more information about how to acquire a second passport, and keep your eye on this column for more ways that you can protect yourself and your wealth from ridiculous — but real — threats that continue to grow in number as your rights continue to dwindle.

MooPig Movie Reviews :: "Movie Trailers"

Plundered and Distributed by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 19, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]
Theaters raise revenue and tensions by charging to show trailers - latimes.com: " ... "What makes this business run are trailers," said Chuck Viane, a former president of distribution for Walt Disney Studios. "When the right trailers aren't seen by the public with the right movie, that can hurt the box office." ... "

'via Blog this'

That's a heavy concept, movie trailer distribution in our modern era of Internet and Web. One movie company pays the theater to run its trailer, and it becomes a precedent. SONY Pictures paid to " ... advertise its comedy "The Animal" in front of the hit Universal movie "The Mummy Returns." That aberration soon became the norm, with pay-for-play accelerating in the last two years. ... "

If trailers become a profit maker for theaters, you know there will be a lot more trailers at the beginning of your favorite blockbuster movie. A trip to the cinema costs around $6 per person for just the ticket, that does not mean we want to see seven or eight trailers that are money makers for the theaters. Besides, a trailer runs about 3 minutes; that adds about 21 minutes to your theater stay.

Your 2 hour movie now becomes 2-1/2 hours long, or more. And, each trailer is preceded by its pandering and brutal bright green screen ratings, and anti-piracy stuff, to make sure your 13 year old or younger children are not watching the preview.
" ... As they [trailers] rose in value, the total number of trailers shown before a movie started going up. Three or four was the norm a decade ago. Regal and AMC theaters now run six or seven before every feature. ... "
This is like punching in the numbers in the jukebox, and seven musical previews play short excerpts before your selection comes on. Eh?

Pretty soon the whole world will be like cable TV, with sixteen minutes of commercials for every hour of show.
" ... Theater owners charge more for the final trailer before a movie starts because, Neuman, chief executive of Verites said, "There's a big difference between how many people see the first trailer and the last." Verites is a Burbank company paid by studios to check theaters to see that trailers are being shown and that marketing materials such as lobby cards and standees are in place. (Ben Fritz and Richard Verrier, Los Angeles Times. February 19, 2013. LINK) ... "

Your Meat Now Raised On Candy

Dear Patdarnell,

Red meat will kill you! Stay away if you want to live!

The message is coming from everywhere recently. Whether it’s news articles and reports, or clinical studies published in scientific journals.

Fortunately for you, that juicy steak or burger is just as good for you as it always was. You just have to know where to find the right meat.

Then you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of quality protein and delight in the savory taste of the red meat that makes your mouth water just thinking of it.

You see, most studies on red meat don’t differentiate between commercial beef and pasture-raised meat. And that’s where there’s a problem.

Because commercial beef is not only different by nature, it may be giving you health problems. It has the wrong kind of fat that’s unhealthy for your heart. But, contrary to what you hear, this is not because it’s red meat. In fact, I regard some beef as among the healthiest of all foods.

Cattle, in one form or another have been on this planet for millions of years. They have successfully survived by grazing on grasslands, prairies, and hillsides. Cattle’s natural diet consists of grasses and legumes. Their anatomy and physiology reflect their diet.

Most commercial cattle no longer eat their natural diet. Growers feed them cheap grain and other “feedstuff” in order to fatten them up quickly.

What are some of these “feedstuffs”?

Right now it’s chocolate bars, rainbow sprinkles, gummy worms, and stale cookies.

Corn prices are so high that ranchers are adding these processed sugary junk foods to the cows’ diet as I write to you.1 They rationalize it by saying the cows use all the sugar since the rumen in their first stomach is loaded with microbes that “break large sugar molecules into volatile fatty acids that are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, providing most of the cow’s energy and aiding milk production.”

But just because they can feed this stuff to cows, doesn’t mean they should. A direct injection of sugar to the bloodstream is causing the cows to suffer from the same chronic diseases humans do when they eat this way.

It’s no wonder red meat has been linked to certain chronic health concerns. How could any cow that’s raised in such a way remain healthy and produce healthy beef? It’s next to impossible.

It causes the cows to become fatty instead of lean. Toxins, hormones and anibiotics then accumulate in the fat. These get passed on to you when you eat commercial beef.

The bottom line is factory-farm red meat is simply horrible stuff. And you have every right to be scared to death of it.

However, pasture-raised, grass-fed beef could not be any more different. You have nothing to fear when you make it a part of your diet. In fact, pasture-raised, grass-fed beef is so loaded with health benefits, I’d even go as far as to call it a “super food.”

The Journal of Animal Science found that the more grass cattle ate, the more nutritious their beef became.2

Grassfed products have three to five times more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than that of commercial animals.3 CLA is an important nutrient that has cancer-preventing properties.

I even read one study that revealed grass-based diets for cows help them produce more vitamin A and E, as well as cancer fighting antioxidants such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD) compared to grain-fed cows.4

In fact, grass fed beef has 4 times more Vitamin E.5 Grain fed cows have so little vitamin E, one of our most powerful antioxidants, that researchers at Colorado State University recommend supplementing... the cows. They say each head of commercial cattle should be supplemented with 1,000 IU a day because they are so deficient.

Some grocery stores are starting to offer grass fed beef. You can ask the butcher. But don’t be fooled by beef labeled “organic.” The organic label only means that the cattle do not have detectable levels of antibiotics or hormones in their body at the time of slaughter. It does not mean that ranchers have never subjected cattle to antibiotics or hormones. Also most organic cattle eat nutritionally deficient grains.

Grassfed meat is a deep red to maroon color, not pink like commercial beef. And grassfed beef is very lean. The flavor is richer and tastes like wild game.

The surest way to get grassfed products is through a private farm.

Some good ones that I like are:

US Wellness Meats – One of the original grass-fed meat suppliers, and the one I use, with a unique way of raising cattle to have more CLA and omega-3 (grasslandbeef.com)

Weatherbury Farm – This Pennsylvania farm also has grass-fed lamb (grassfed.weatherburyfarm.com)

Wallace Farms – The owner of this Iowa farm has a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition from Iowa State University also raises fish naturally (wallacefarms.com)

Mount Vernon Farm – Family owned since 1827! They use rotational grazing so everything is sustainable as nature intended. They also partner with a nearby farm to produce ecologically grown vegetables (mountvernonfarm.net and waterpennyfarm.com).

To Your Good Health,

Al Sears, MD

"THE THREE SUPREME COURT STOOGES — (Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito) At this critical time in our nation's history when our leaders need to stand for fairness and justice, these three knuckleheads are doing their best to permanently tip the balance of power to the richest Americans and most powerful corporations. Their decision to skip this week's State of the Union address represents the lowest character from our nation's highest court members. Perhaps their worst decision was Citizens United which gives corporations the rights of people.

“Egregious” doesn't even begin to describe the negative impact of this decision on our democracy. It has opened the floodgate to groups that can now officially buy our government and make decisions further enriching those groups. They have a lock on our future. We the people must stand against this tyranny. This week we saw a true patriot, Elizabeth Warren face down federal regulators for failing to take Wall Street's banksters to task. So there is hope. MooPig Movie Reviews :: "The Raven"

Only 4-4/10ths Stars out of Ten in the Reviews

John Cusack plays Edgar Allan Poe as the American writer being plagiarized and euthanize'd.

The movie took a sniper hit when it came out a year ago and did not fair well. I watched The Raven for the first time today. The review is:
" ... Thinly scripted, unevenly acted, and overall preposterous, The Raven disgraces the legacy of Edgar Allen Poe with a rote murder mystery that's more silly than scary. (Rotten Tomatoes by Flixter. Apr 27, 2012. LINK) ... "
And, we could end our review right here. But, there is some stuff I want to say, regarding the American archetype writer, E. A. Poe.

Let's say this is three years later, and I am writing a review on The Raven, and remember very little about it, except back story on Edgar Allan Poe. It is not a mesmerizing movie, the film is not weird, disturbing, fascinating, entertaining, nor profound, for instance like The Master, but it points us toward an American phenomena.

That phenomena is "the path" many Americans take. It can be traced to Poe's life. Edgar Allan Poe had a thing for the aristocracy, but he didn't stick around to get the qualifications that would make him part of that scene. He chose rather to edify his street credit. He runs up gambling debts, joins the Army, returns to his adoptive parents, deliberately got kicked out of West Point, and basically lives the life of a rock star, all before he is twenty-two years old.

It resembles results today like our edgy outsiders, artists, recluses who are famous as outsiders, becoming insiders; the rebels become the giant bosses? It is the same for Poe in his day.

And I promise not to make it a "Did you know" slide into minutia. But how did we Americans not travel very far from a rock star archetypal life like E. A. Poe's?

For instance, in the movie, Poe is plagiarized by a serial murderer, who shall remain nameless. The villain uses Poe's short stories about macabre murders, to stage his own killings. This royally pisses off Poe in the movie, especially when the villain kidnaps his girlfriend, Emily, and buries her alive in a tunnel. She doesn't die.

Poe is the Baltimore Police's prime suspect in the series of murders, but it soon becomes evident he isn't the murderer, and he actually begins to help the police. It gets complicated and dicey, as one might expect, but there is no computer special effects, nor game console intelligence, nor SWAT team. As a matter of fact, the whole plot is about as emotionless as Vulcan poetry.

The plot depends on Poe's memory, as he is required to remember all of his writings, because the mysterious murderer leaves Poe's own words for clues written on pieces of paper. And, then Poe is required by the murderer to write like a sitcom author at Disney to come up with an 'impromptu story' about the current murders. This story is printed in installments in the Baltimore paper.

Spoiler: Poe [John Cusack] has to drink poison to save Emily's life.

I don't find this version of Poe's life anywhere; so it must be fiction script for the movie. The raven allusion in the title is not explained, nor his pet raccoon. We don't know in the closing scene how Poe is found on a park bench, half dead. But he dies at age forty in real life, due to unknown causes.

However, a model for American pop artists today, even after two centuries of American writing, Edgar Allan Poe is the first American rock star.

Out- out are the lights- out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.
(Edgar Allan Poe. EXCERPT  :: "The Conqueror Worm" (1843) )

That's what we got out of the movie for our 99 cents rental of The Raven DVD ... and it is all good for us.
