Super Bowl XLVII viewing guide - CBS News

Good Old Charts for Super Bowl XLVII

Super Bowl XLVII viewing guide - CBS News: EXCERPT | " ...Here is a look at CBS' weeklong programming surrounding Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

Monday, Jan. 28 - Saturday, Feb. 2

Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials 2013, Wednesday, Jan. 30, (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). An interactive countdown special will let viewers vote live on via Facebook and Twitter for their all-time favorite Super Bowl commercials. The special is hosted by the NFL Today's Boomer Esiason and The Talk's Aisha Tyler.... "

'via Blog this'

As a result, Super Bowl ad rates have risen sharply over the past few years. The average price of a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl broadcast rose from $2.1 million in 2003 to $3.5 million in 2012. This year, CBS is reportedly charging $3.8 million, suggesting that demand remains very healthy. In total, Super Bowl ad spending more than doubled in the past 10 years, jumping from $130 million in 2003 to $263 million in 2012.

How to Play:

Pay out $5 for every score change. $10 for the Half-time score, and whatever is left for the Final score! Use the one’s digit of the score to determine the number.

At kick-off, whoever has the square 0, 0 wins $5! Then when the score changes, whoever has the square for that score wins $5!

For example: if the Giants score a field goal first, then whoever has Giants 3, Patriots 0 wins $5! Then, let’s say the Patriots score a TD next. Whoever’s name is written the square with Packers 3, Patriots 6 wins $5. Naturally, the Patriots will likely kick a PAT (point after touchdown), so whoever has Giants 3, Patriots 7 ALSO wins $5!

Chicago bedbug crackdown needs work, aldermen say - "Chicago landlords, tenant advocates and aldermen agreed Tuesday that the city needs to take on a proliferating bedbug population but failed to agree on the approach.
The bedbug issue surfaced during a three-hour hearing held by two City Council committees mulling a proposed ordinance that would allow fines of up to $1,000 a day against landlords who fail to take the required steps to wipe out bedbug infestations.

“Bedbugs are a serious problem, regardless of economic stature, and the city of Chicago has the authority to declare a public nuisance and regulate it,” said Brian Bernardoni, the government affairs director for associations that represent real estate agents, building owners and managers. “The issue must be addressed head on.”"

'via Blog this'

If you think you are suffering from bed bug bites, or if you have seen a strange bug or other signs, the photos below will help you determine if you have them. (Remember also that other problems can look like bed bug bites, so be sure and rule those out. See this FAQ if you need help detecting bed bugs.)

Obviously, you might find the bugs themselves! They can look vastly different based on life stage (there are 5 nymph stages and one adult stage) and whether they’ve fed recently or not. For reference, see the following bed bug life cycle images.

" ... Subject: mental health
Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have, and even with sometimes what they don't have.

Husband and wife, Ralph and Edna, were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

Edna promptly jumped in to save Ralph. She swam to the bottom of the pool, pulled him out, dried him off and nurtured her husband from a terrible episode.

When Head Nurse Director, Sally Forth, became aware of Edna's heroic act, she immediately ordered Edna to be discharged from the hospital, as the Director now considered Edna to be mentally stable.

When Nurse Forth went to tell Edna the news, she said: "Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love... I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness !"

"But the bad news is, Ralph hung himself in your bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but your beloved is dead."

Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?' (HERE. MooPig Wisdom)

MooPig Clandestine Operations Department :: Hack This Site!

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Jan 28, 2013 | Bryan TX

Hack This Site!:
So you want to learn to hack? Good luck with that. It seems that you won't learn to hack by studying online sources. And you sure won't learn how to hack from Tom Cruise.

'via Blog this'

These Hack Sites don't stay online very long. We attempted to LINK a few of them in this article, but they are already flagged in big red letters:
Client/Server Security Agent
Page Blocked

Rating: Dangerous
Threat details: Verified fraudulent page or threat source.
[ ... ]

From the romantic jargon of one site:
What Is a Hacker?

" ... The Jargon File contains a bunch of definitions of the term ‘hacker’, most having to do with technical adeptness and a delight in solving problems and overcoming limits. If you want to know how to become a hacker, though, only two are really relevant.

There is a community, a shared culture, of expert programmers and networking wizards that traces its history back through decades to the first time-sharing minicomputers and the earliest ARPAnet experiments. The members of this culture originated the term ‘hacker’. Hackers built the Internet. Hackers made the Unix operating system what it is today. Hackers run Usenet. Hackers make the World Wide Web work. If you are part of this culture, if you have contributed to it and other people in it know who you are and call you a hacker, you're a hacker.

The hacker mind-set is not confined to this software-hacker culture. There are people who apply the hacker attitude to other things, like electronics or music — actually, you can find it at the highest levels of any science or art. Software hackers recognize these kindred spirits elsewhere and may call them ‘hackers’ too — and some claim that the hacker nature is really independent of the particular medium the hacker works in. But in the rest of this document we will focus on the skills and attitudes of software hackers, and the traditions of the shared culture that originated the term ‘hacker’. (Eric Steven Raymond. 2001. HERE) ... "
Basic Hacking Skills
1. Learn how to program.

This, of course, is the fundamental hacking skill. If you don't know any computer languages, I recommend starting with Python. It is cleanly designed, well documented, and relatively kind to beginners.

2. Get one of the open-source Unixes and learn to use and run it.

I'll assume you have a personal computer or can get access to one. (Take a moment to appreciate how much that means. The hacker culture originally evolved back when computers were so expensive that individuals could not own them.) The single most important step any newbie can take toward acquiring hacker skills is to get a copy of Linux or one of the BSD-Unixes or OpenSolaris, install it on a personal machine, and run it.

3. Learn how to use the World Wide Web and write HTML.

Most of the things the hacker culture has built do their work out of sight, helping run factories and offices and universities without any obvious impact on how non-hackers live. The Web is the one big exception, the huge shiny hacker toy that even politicians admit has changed the world. For this reason alone (and a lot of other good ones as well) you need to learn how to work the Web.

4. If you don't have functional English, learn it.

As an American and native English-speaker myself, I have previously been reluctant to suggest this, lest it be taken as a sort of cultural imperialism. But several native speakers of other languages have urged me to point out that English is the working language of the hacker culture and the Internet, and that you will need to know it to function in the hacker community.

The Hacker/Nerd Connection

Contrary to popular myth, you don't have to be a nerd to be a hacker. It does help, however, and many hackers are in fact nerds. Being something of a social outcast helps you stay concentrated on the really important things, like thinking and hacking.

For this reason, many hackers have adopted the label ‘geek’ as a badge of pride — it's a way of declaring their independence from normal social expectations (as well as a fondness for other things like science fiction and strategy games that often go with being a hacker). More apparent tsunami debris washes up on U.S. shore - CBS News: "The dock was spotted Tuesday by the Coast Guard on Washington state's rugged Olympic Peninsula. The site is about five miles from the nearest road. On Thursday, a swollen stream blocked the debris team from reaching the dock.

The Washington dock is believed to be similar to the 165-ton concrete and steel dock that washed ashore at Newport. Looking like a railroad boxcar, it was 66 feet long, 19 feet wide and 7 feet high. A plaque identified it as one of four owned by Aomori Prefecture that broke loose from the port of Misawa during the tsunami." [Pictures LINK]

90 Percent of Corn Seeds Are Coated With Bayer's Bee-Decimating Pesticide | Mother Jones: "When a company dominates markets and can buy lobbying power in Washington, its products don't actually have to work, I suppose." When seed companies decided to begin genetic storage of all the seeds in the world, it was ground breaking news. Now it has become a capitalists' domination of the market: Genetically Engineered [GE] Seeds. The first and largest player is Monsanto:
" ... The Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed in the Roundup brand, and in other brands. Monsanto is also the second largest producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed; it provides the technology in 49% of the genetically engineered seeds used in the US market. It is headquartered in Creve Coeur, Missouri. ("Monsanto CFO to retire." St. Louis Business Journal. Wednesday 12 August 2009. Retrieved on 19 August 2009.) ... "
Monsanto has been one of top ten chemical companies since 1940's ...
The 1940s saw Monsanto become a leading manufacturer of plastics, including polystyrene and synthetic fibers. Since then, it has remained one of the top 10 US chemical companies. Other major products have included the herbicides 2,4,5-T, DDT, and Agent Orange used primarily during the Vietnam War as a defoliant agent (later found to be contaminated during manufacture with highly carcinogenic dioxin), the artificial sweetener aspartame (NutraSweet), bovine somatotropin (bovine growth hormone (BST)), and PCBs....Also in this decade, Monsanto operated the Dayton Project, and later Mound Laboratories in Miamisburg, Ohio, for the Manhattan Project, the development of the first nuclear weapons and, after 1947, the Atomic Energy Commission. ("Monsanto Held Liable For PCB Dumping". The Washington Post. Retrieved 5 April 2010.)
In 2009 Monsanto is still very large and dominant in chemical markets, but anti-trust rules are being scrutinized by the Department of Justice, and litigation from around the world has made Monsanto a different kind of headliner. 'via Blog this' Since 1982 Monsanto has developed GE seed and experimented with crops of them in use. In January 2010, Monsanto was named company of the year by Forbes.
Monsanto is the largest producer of glyphosate herbicides through its popular brand, Roundup. A report released in June 2011 linked glyphosate to birth defects in frog and chicken embryos at dilutions much lower than those used in agricultural and garden spraying. What, Me MAD?
by Pat Darnell | 12/30/08 12:10 AM
I think I will start with a Class Action calling out Mainstream Actresses --

To kickoff the new year, I will file a petition to get back all that is taken from our family by actresses and actors who do not maintain their natural looks. First off Meg Ryan will receive a copy for cutting down her nose so that she looks like Charo when I see her in movies now, 2008. "I don't pay my buck fiddy to see what the actress thinks I should see, I pay to see Meg Ryan as she is," says I. "Give me back my money."

Then I might follow up with a suit against the computer industry for finding so many ways to make it more complicated to write a letter to my friends.

I should include the education system in my appeals for teaching me binary math when I was in elementary school. I think it messed with my logical development, and interrupted my growth. "You want proof? Just look at this blog... yeah, proof, up yours!"

Women who have scorned me, false gods, and the entire authorship of Scientology will hear from me: including Wayne Newton for not singing high notes anymore.

I might single out for class action suit demanding compensation to MAD Magazine readers for MAD going on TV with stupidity and tasteless parody... oh yeah that is what they do. Maybe I will have to rethink that one.

Other groups who need to answer for their less than ideal performance: the IMF, beekeepers, and meat eaters. Hey New York, do you ever eat a steak? Philly tell me you don't eat a lot of steak? How could you let the beef industry falter so far away from its main purpose? Beef recalls in 2008, where's the beef buddy boys?

Beekeepers, how did you obviously fall down on the job so completely and lose all the bees?

International Monetary Fund, how did you just go and let US bankers and securities groups dip into your enormous cache of funds with hedges and gambles? Aren't there any other nations in there to watch things?

So, Meg, you have done so much damage to yourself, it seems you have suffered enough. So I am going to remind you with this punitive subpoena to appear before the court of human race opinion as you ought to be, not as you so often make us try to envision you might be.. How do you like them apples, old girl? You've been served.

This is going to be a GREAT year, 2009. I am truly excited!

HA! We were bluffing! But seriously, folks, shouldn't we be compensated?

[Picture LINK] Re: Shorthorn Heifer For Sale in Iowa

Some must think we do all this just for our own amusement. Well, you're not too far from the truth. We have three readers who have been faithful for the duration of MooPig Wisdom from 2006 to now. We have no idea who they are, but we keep the ruse alive for them.

However, it turns out our page view numbers are down now as compared to our page views two years ago. Upper management here at MooPig Enterprises set up a task group called the MooPig Page Views Department, who have advised them of the down turn in page views.

Google has provided the blogspot for MooPig free of charge, and as yet MooPig Enterprises has not paid for any of the related amenities of their generous offering. If we did have to pay for this, well you know, it would be like paying for music today, not happening.

Excuse me a moment, I have to feed the herd... BRB  *[Be Right Back]* ...

On the other hand we do pay for our wireless Verizon sudden-link that is not cheap.

Upper management asked the Page View Department to propose a solution to our waning status. They immediately summoned their chart making buddies and came up with the stuff blogs are made of.

[Chart: MooPig's Page Views from May 2008 till now.]

As you can see we are in a decline. How do we amp up our page views? They said, "We tried to measure by running articles about trends, MooPig Trade Show Department :: "Reviewing CES 2013" -- HERE, ... and by evaluating articles that have out shined all the others, HERE -- At the Message Leave a BEEP, Please...."

Our newer post has 26 page views and 5 comments; -- the older post has 31,306 page views and no comments.

We think this photo is why the older post is viewed so often:

This photo is lifted from that year's Google Images, 2009. Back then we did not know how to attribute sources for photo's. Since then we have learned how to do that. But we don't have the technology to find the source, so it is unknown for now.

Only browsers can find that sort of needle in a haystack. Google Images has once again answered the SOPA-type conflagration of making the Internet less free, by changing formats of how its images are played with.

We searched ... "alligator, girl" ... in the new Google Images and found the photo above. It led us to this site HERE, in PhotoBucket, where it cannot be copied. That is not where that photo came to us from in 2009. This is just the work of another blogster, like us, who tagged this image into his collection of pirated photos. And, we are not sure how that is going to pan out when all the Internet's Mother Lovin' Images are sorted out for the web indexing crowd.
[Picture LINK]
We are certain that MooPig Enterprises does not know how it does what it does. It is a mysterious enigma. Our readers, all three, God bless them, would be sorry if we were gone.

What we don't expect anyone to care about is, whether we find all the sources for every thing we quote in MooPig Wisdom, or in the other fifteen blogs we are associated with. But we will make our best effort at calling out all sources. We suspect no one is doing research that uses MooPig as a source.

Therefore, we will conclude that our purpose is to be viewed, and page views will be our metric for now.

MooPig Wisdom is a developing thing, and it is tiny. If it grew over time, we would be amazed.

MooPig City Desk :: "Xbox 720 Specs Reportedly Leaked"

retrieved by Pat Darnell, rumors by Others  |  Jan 25, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[No PHOTO yet]

How many of us get our hopes up that something huge, miraculous and material will happen to us? Well, it happens to us every December 25th, when we wake up and look under the tree. Yes?

This Christmas, 2013, may be one of those earmark years. The successor of the XBOX 360 may become available for discretionary spending in 2013. Like it or not, we at MooPig Economic Development Department and our Twelve Days of Wisdom Department will help spread the rumor starting now and all the way up to the rumored event. Yes, we might see the XBOX 720, the next generation of XBOX, emerging in November '13.

Since MooPig Enterprises tends to recognize things long after they have run their course of usefulness, we thought 'this time we will get in on the beginning of the rumor mill. Yes, MooPig has lifted itself out of the flea market category, and into the mega blitz marketing of gaming consoles.

MooPig recently took courses to help it re-fashion its image. Did you know there are self-harm groups for web-sites? Yes, there are.

Okay, it turns out, the rumor mill announces the XBOX 720 ... and even shows a diagram of its 'architecture.' What they are saying is that this console plus a big screen will have to get you through the next decade.

Xbox 720 Specs Reportedly Leaked | Maximum PC: "The first reports about the Xbox 720 (or whatever Microsoft’s next-gen console ends up being called) began appearing as early as 2006, even prompting Microsoft EMEA (European, Middle East, and Africa) vice president Chris Lewis to plead for “a chance to catch a breath” when asked about the Xbox 360’s successor during an interview in October that year. Now that Microsoft has had more than enough time to do so,  people are growing restless. And when that happens, the rumor mill experiences heightened activity."

'via Blog this'

The VGLeaks rumors also say the "Durango" codenamed Xbox will feature a high-end Blu-ray Disc drive as well as Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

In other previous reports just prior to the E3 2012, a Microsoft executive, Yusuf Mehdi, wrote in a blog about the Xboz 720 saying: "We've got ideas for making all the entertainment you love more personal, interactive and social across the devices you love—and on the phenomenal Windows 8 devices that are to come."

MooPig's Star Linger Power Department :: "Stardust" PART ONE

How long a Star Lingers up there is Paramount
by Pat Darnell  |  Jan 20, 2013  |  Bryan TX

What prompts this discussion is a billion dollar business. On the Red Carpet of stardom is a map of the birth, life, and, death, of stars.

Cue 'Stardust.' MooPig Star Linger Power Department has begun a new measuring tact that will give a number to a star's linger power ... stick-around-it-ness. It seems like a good idea at the outset, but we are not finding any substance to the concept. Except that some stars are paid up to $42k to wear certain clothes, and accessories: bags, jewelry and shoes, all happening during negotiations before an event like the Oscars.

Quick Poll   ... Are leggings acceptable to wear in public?

  • Yes! They're just tight pants.
  • No! They are too tight. Save for exercise and travel only.
There is a new software, app or such, that puts a tag on the items in the photo of your favorite star that is lingering in the ring of stardom. You simply find your star d' jour, and click on clothing items and accessories to find who designed and manufactured each of them. We're talking intimacy.

[Picture LINK]

The point being, whether the public wants it or not, certain persons become stars, and live a life of selling themselves. As stars live longer, well you guessed it, the longer star linger power each has. Examples alive today are: Wayne Newton, Joe Theismann or Terry Bradshaw, Helen Mirren, who are lingering at high levels.

How then do we spot a young star, a protostar, who will be with us for a long time. That is our mission in assigning a number to each newborn star to provide a derivative to Stock Brokers for investment futures, so they can hedge on them.

With some ease we can be assured that football stars will last a long time, RGIII, or Te'O. Young vegan health minded singers/songwriters should linger, and then there is false stars. Sarah Palin is a study in the false star category, but she is lingering, you have to admit.

In case you think otherwise, MooPig is nauseated by this bit of pseudo-science. It means that Justin Bieber, if he stays clear of fatty foods, misogynists, polyandrists, polygamists, escapologists, and pastors, ... will most likely be around for the next ninety years. I pity my children who must endure what all that implies.

Keith Richards might be the anti-thesis of this parody, but he sure enough has lingered ... we know you are thinking right now of stars who are suspiciously lingering out there.

If you are earnest in spotting who is the next rising protostars who will begin on the linger timeline, just tune in to cable TV Disney Channel. Watch a day's worth of "Austin and Ally", "Shake it Up!", "Wizards of Waverly Place", "Jessie", "Good Luck Charlie", and "ANT Farm" or "Dog with a blog." You will see first hand star linger power in its infancy, birthing out young starlets, with producers throwing money at them.

Our most lasting lingerers have come from the Disney Cartel.

ROUND 2: Who is your favorite male Disney child star of all-time?
  • Cole and Dylan Sprouse
  • Jonas Brothers
  • Justin Timberlake
  • Mitchel Musso
  • Zac Efron
MooPig Star Linger Power Department would like to apply this model to our quest in measuring this burgeoning business:
" ... Stars are born in nebulae. Huge clouds of dust and gas collapse under gravitational forces, forming protostars. These young stars undergo further collapse, forming main sequence stars.

Stars expand as they grow old. As the core runs out of hydrogen and then helium, the core contracts and the outer layers expand, cool, and become less bright. This is a red giant or a red super giant (depending on the initial mass of the star). It will eventually collapse and explode. Its fate is determined by the original mass of the star; it will become either a black dwarf, neutron star, or black hole.
There is a problem here. Each of the people who concern themselves with their celebrity is vying for attention. There are not enough thirty-second segments in one day to put up with this onslaught of vanity. We the observer, the tactician, the MooPigster, are the poor bastards who will suffer bombardment of stuff of stars, lingering ever longer ... gulp.

Will this bullshit never cease? Not likely.

Obama won the popular vote with 65.9 million votes, or 51.1 percent, to Romney’s 60.9 million, or 47.2 percent, and won the Electoral College by a wide margin, 332-206 electoral votes.

There are other signs that Republican state legislators, governors and veteran political strategists are seriously considering making a shift, as the GOP looks to rebound from presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Electoral College shellacking and the demographic changes that threaten the party’s long-term political prospects.  (HERE)

Among the motivational speakers invited to address the retreat is Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to climb Mt Everest and thus the perfect person to inspire Republicans as they grope their way towards the heights of government. (HERE)

Republicans Retreat To Reassess and Figure Out How to Talk to Negroes and People With Lady Parts | Common Dreams: "Republican lawmakers have gathered in Williamsburg, Virginia to consider their political past (not so rosy) and future (not so rosy either), discuss topics from the debt ceiling and gun control to how to game the electoral college, and attend seminars titled "What Happened and Where Are We Now?" (good question!) ...

"How Is America Changing?" and "Successful Communication with Minorities and Women" - the last held in the Burwell Plantation Room, so named for a fine old slave-owning family, and located in the tony Kingsmill Resort, site of another fine old slave plantation.

Presumably, breakout sessions will include do's and don'ts on nappy hair and how to distinguish from illegitimate, oh-really-it's-nothing rape and actual, maybe-this-is-not-so-okay rape-rape, which the three white men and two women on the panel can hopefully figure out."

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., who heads Republicans' campaign efforts, deflected a question regarding the irony of a panel trying to help the GOP woo minorities happening in a room named after a slave-owning family’s plantation.

"I don't pick the rooms we meet in," Walden said. "I know the Democrats have held their retreats here too and I assume you'll go and figure out if they ever held meetings in that same room."

When pressed on why there were three white men (half the group) on a panel regarding minority outreach Walden said, "Actually, I don't do this part of it, by the way, somebody can fill you in on all the names, but it is more than just three white guys on the panel, and it was filled out after that went to press."

Walden made known that minority outreach and recruiting minority House GOP candidates were a “top priority” and that the GOP had a “good message” for minorities but had suffered from a recent "bad communications." (Luke Russert and Frank Thorp, NBC News. 2 days ago. HERE)

[Picture LINK] ... The resort was once the Kingsmill Plantation.

Panels will take place in the resort’s “Burwell Plantation” room, named after the family that once owned the plantation. The luxury resort is now owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz, a conservative political donor.
