MooPig Cage Match #42.1 :: "Aspartame vs Splenda"

Aspartame vs. Splenda: Which Is Worse for You? / Nutrition / Healthy Eating:

"Negative Side Effects of Aspartame"

"First approved by the FDA in 1980, aspartame was designed as a low-calorie sugar substitute to help you cut calories while still sweetening your foods and beverages. However, shortly after being released, a flood of complaints about aspartame came in. Aspartame has been shown to cause headaches, nausea and even seizures in some people. Further studies on aspartame have also indicated that it could cause you to go blind in one or both of your eyes, suffer from heart palpitations and even become depressed or go throughout extreme bouts of anxiety. Further, aspartame is known to cause a variety of issues in your brain. These are just some of the negative side effects of aspartame."

"Negative Side Effects of Splenda [Sucralose]"

"Splenda was created as a no-calorie artificial sweetener that was supposed to help you cut sugar out of your diet altogether. Studies have been done on Splenda to show that it may not be all its cracked up to be, either. For example, Splenda is made by using chlorine. While there are only small traces of chlorine found in Splenda, some studies have suggested that this could be harmful to the body if you use it regularly for a long period of time. It can also cause weight gain by tricking your body when you eat foods and drink beverages that contain Splenda in them. It tricks your body into thinking you're not full when you really are and, as a result, you overeat. Some other studies have suggested that aggression in young children may be the result of them eating and drinking Splenda. Because of these side effects, Splenda has also gotten a bad name."

CONCLUSION
Without access to primary research documents, this cage match is a draw. Both sweeteners "appear" to be dangerous to the human body. They both inhibit and thwart the body's metabolism, but so does regular refined sugar.
