MooPig City Desk :: "Xbox 720 Specs Reportedly Leaked"

retrieved by Pat Darnell, rumors by Others  |  Jan 25, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[No PHOTO yet]

How many of us get our hopes up that something huge, miraculous and material will happen to us? Well, it happens to us every December 25th, when we wake up and look under the tree. Yes?

This Christmas, 2013, may be one of those earmark years. The successor of the XBOX 360 may become available for discretionary spending in 2013. Like it or not, we at MooPig Economic Development Department and our Twelve Days of Wisdom Department will help spread the rumor starting now and all the way up to the rumored event. Yes, we might see the XBOX 720, the next generation of XBOX, emerging in November '13.

Since MooPig Enterprises tends to recognize things long after they have run their course of usefulness, we thought 'this time we will get in on the beginning of the rumor mill. Yes, MooPig has lifted itself out of the flea market category, and into the mega blitz marketing of gaming consoles.

MooPig recently took courses to help it re-fashion its image. Did you know there are self-harm groups for web-sites? Yes, there are.

Okay, it turns out, the rumor mill announces the XBOX 720 ... and even shows a diagram of its 'architecture.' What they are saying is that this console plus a big screen will have to get you through the next decade.

Xbox 720 Specs Reportedly Leaked | Maximum PC: "The first reports about the Xbox 720 (or whatever Microsoft’s next-gen console ends up being called) began appearing as early as 2006, even prompting Microsoft EMEA (European, Middle East, and Africa) vice president Chris Lewis to plead for “a chance to catch a breath” when asked about the Xbox 360’s successor during an interview in October that year. Now that Microsoft has had more than enough time to do so,  people are growing restless. And when that happens, the rumor mill experiences heightened activity."

The VGLeaks rumors also say the "Durango" codenamed Xbox will feature a high-end Blu-ray Disc drive as well as Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

In other previous reports just prior to the E3 2012, a Microsoft executive, Yusuf Mehdi, wrote in a blog about the Xboz 720 saying: "We've got ideas for making all the entertainment you love more personal, interactive and social across the devices you love—and on the phenomenal Windows 8 devices that are to come."

MooPig's Tech Coroner :: "The End of the x86 Era"

by Pat Darnell | Jan 8, 2012 | Bryan TX
[Vectra VL420 server type Pentium 4]

The End of the x86 Era | John C. Dvorak | PCMag.com: "All this was due to the x86 juggernaut and established mind share."

The Article says the usual gang of suspects are to blame for demise of the x86 structure. Suspects like fussiness, marketing, public relations, appliance envy, general laziness, and computers as toys, are killing the past work-horse PC architecture. But mainly "the x86 era is over because the public stopped caring about it when Apple introduced the first poke-and-shove GUI on the original iPhone in 2007. (Dvorak, John C. Jan 8, 2012)"

The general group of suspects includes the consumer who really "doesn't care how anything works." It was the dream of the ambiguous consumer that " ... Computers would be so simple that anyone could use them with little fuss ... "

Arguments divide "x86 architecture" into "speed freakism," and "brainiacism."
" ... It marked the victory of those who felt that extra performance was best achieved not by constantly upping the processor's clock speed, but by going for ever more parallel systems with much finer control of performance versus power consumption. (Rupert Goodwins, ZDNet.co.uk, 28 July, 2006 LINK)"
During the lifespan of x86, other architectures were tried by companies like Intel; they experimented with "Ada" and then with a "neural network processor" only to see them not make it into the public consciousness.

Chances are that we never fully use our x86 type Core 2 Duo type processors with our everyday work-play of Apps and software. If you are not mapping the floor of the ocean, or modeling the earth's crust with seismic readouts, you are probably using only a small part of your x86.

Therefore, the whole push for x86 over the decades has been to fine tune with macro-fusion, and micro-fusion, by recognizing instruction parallels. Intel then established ways to speed up the flow in the pipeline structure of the cores. This was done by recognizing at least one in ten instructions can be combined with another instruction, such as a mathematics comparison. Then, Intel limited the power usage for their cores by shutting down areas that were not being used. Intel got its parameters from studying all kinds of softwares.

For instance, what has powered the blog MooPig? Until this December 2010, it was a Vectra VL420 server type Pentium 4. It is a great machine ... for ten years ago. It was all I needed to post and blog and repeat. It quit working, so I replaced it with this Intel CORE i5 Vostro by Dell. The only difference is that I can do three times the posting, blogging and repeating as before.

That is why I feel sort of goofy when I read about all the power spinning in this new PC. What would happen if I ever tapped that resource? What more could I do?

What does the future hold? If you ask an American author, scientist, inventor and futurist -- Kurzweil, -- the future of computing is that all this you see surrounding you now, will be gone. The aspect of information gathering\processing will be part of our human bodies; some sort of nano-tech cells in our neural network. The future is body enhancement; tatt's and inserts. His inventions include optical character recognition... so that tells you a lot.

Kurzweil is more saint than doomsday prophet as his main industry has been to make the blind see, deaf hear and mute speak. Like a hearing aid, which by the way is very delicately hand made, a person wearing one doesn't care how it works -- he just cares that he can hear. That is the future of x86 architecture, does it work?

We cannot be lulled to sleep with ludicrous predictions doled out by research companies. We cannot be subdued by "battery life so we can sit, giggle, poke, and shove icons on a screen," as John Dvorak says.  Rather keep an open mind, and a fervent agenda, so that when the "Singularity happens, it will be ‘very obvious’(LINK)..." But it will not come without demise of the x86's.

FW:FW Unsolicited Emails Department -- 2006Letter from Rosemary La Bonte

Pros and Cons of FWD'ed Emails, and SNOPES,
Retrieved by Pat Darnell
----- Original Message -----
Subject: Fw: TEARING THIS COUNTRY APART
TO: Orange County California Newspaper
FW Messages: This is a very good letter to the editor. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions.

NOT printed in the Orange county Paper..... "Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!"

From: 'David LaBonte' "My wife, Rosemary, wrote ... letter to the editor of the OC Register which was not printed. I decided to 'print' it myself sending it out on the Internet. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:
[SOURCE]

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented . Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people.

[...]

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

Claim: Letter to the editor accurately contrasts immigrants from different eras.
Status: False.

Example: [Collected via e-mail, 2006] New Immigrants
Origins: On 31 March 2006, the Orange County (California) Register published several letters to the editor dealing with the subject of the immigration debate. One of those letters, by a reader named Ernie Lujan, was published under a heading of "Tear down lady liberty" and read as follows:
Illegal immigrants have been around since the early 1900's, except then they entered through Ellis Island in New York City. They came from countries such as Italy, Ireland, Germany, Poland and France. And now we accept them as true Americans.

Now these people whose ancestors came to this country to make a better life for themselves and their children want to build a great wall along the U.S. and Mexico border and deny these hard-working people the same rights that their ancestors fought so hard and died for.

If you build this wall then you must also tear down the great Statue of Liberty that sits in the New York Harbor.

This piece provides an apt illustration of the phenomenon that one can find in nearly every culture, in every era, a group of people who firmly believe that their civilization once experienced a golden age in which social conditions were much better (if not perfect), and modern society is an increasingly worsening corruption of that Arcadian past.

The trend continues today, as we commonly see responses to social, political, or economic issues that attempt to contrast the present with earlier eras, to hearken back to times when such problems were significantly ameliorated or simply did not exist.

Generally such reactions don't ring true, referring not to the way things really used to be, but to idealized, mythical visions of the past couched in absolute terms. So it is with this letter, which attempts to contrast the "modern immigrant" with immigrants of a century ago, finding the former sadly lacking by comparison. As usual, it references a black-and-white past that never existed.

Yes, many of the immigrants who streamed through Ellis Island into the United States around the turn of the century worked hard, obeyed the laws, did their best to learn English (and otherwise become assimilated into American culture), raised children who willingly took up arms to defend their adoptive country in times of crisis, and made their way in the world (and perhaps even prospered) with little or no help from the government or anyone outside their immediate families and circles of acquaintances.

What this piece illustrates is not so much substantive differences between "old immigrants" and "new immigrants," but rather the truthfulness of the proverb "*Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose." *[a saying that we simply have no translation for... but are willing to pass it on in this forwarded blog post... Windows PCs Subject to Clogging, Need Draino

System Mechanic 8, from Iolo Technologies does work as advertised and will keep your Windows machine "looking like new!" In other words, it will help keep the registry from getting clogged with garbage, eliminate needless start-up items from hogging resources, and perform a whole host of other nifty functions. Go to iolo.com for licensing and pricing.—John C. Dvorak [Source HERE]

Why am I plugging Iolo? Because I had a meeting with the company where it was explained to me how Windows machines manage to seemingly deteriorate over time. It seems as if Windows is overly susceptible to what can only be described as clogging. From the sounds of it, the system is designed like plumbing, with areas where what amounts to hair can clog the drain pipes. Products like System Mechanic are essentially Draino.

Running on old hardware, Windows clogs like a drain. Microsoft dropped the ball by not bringing out a new OS in 2005.

John C. Dvorak,

(Retrieved in entirety HERE for review and analysis ) "The registry, for example, never stops growing. Windows never optimizes the thing. You install a program and it creates an entry. You uninstall the program and the entry is still there, a stub that's zeroed out but taking up space. Often elements, even after uninstalled, remain there to be loaded into the system on each boot-up. There they sit, doing absolutely nothing except make the system check in on them every so often to see if they are dead or alive. It's like a storefront on a busy street for a store that never opens. There it sits useless, but you still have to walk past it.

Microsoft is the culprit since the company obviously designed its OS with the idea that people aren't really going to do that much with their machines—and probably never uninstall anything. Ever.

The problem we now face with these machines ironically stems from the hardware development outpacing the software development, so we can keep our machines running longer than ever before. Instead of replacing a machine every 18 months, as was the case in the late 1980s, we can keep a machine for five years or more.

I say this is ironic, because since Microsoft managed to put most software vendors out of business, the likelihood of a new software invention that would require more powerful and new machines has fallen to nil.

Combine this with the miserable Microsoft development cycle, which now stretches six to seven years between major changes from its old pace of two to three years. This pace in and of itself has resulted in an industry slowdown, since Microsoft has become like the drum-pounder on a Viking ship getting everyone to row slower or faster.
