Gary Grainger

This has just been posted by a Blues Show listener and virtual buddy Patrick Darnell - I am gobsmacked, thanks man!

Dolphins line up and pay to swim with him ...
His own children call him Pope G ...
His slide guitar strings were auctioned off at an undisclosed price ...
His passport requires no photo, just a mustache ...
He don't listen to Sinatra, but when he doo bee doo bee doo ...
His feet don't get blisters, but his shoes do ...
If he were to punch you, you would have to fight a strong urge to thank him ...
He doesn't always sing along with his favorite songs, but when he does he sings along with the guitar solo too ...
Every zoo is a petting zoo, if you're not a pussy ...
He can speak Russian ... in French ...
When he slices onions, the onions cry ...
The Holy Grail is looking for him ...

He doesn't often drink beer but when he does it's Old Chimneys Good King Henry Special Reserve ...

Gary Grainger is simply the most interesting Blues DJ east of the Mississippi.

MooPig Tech Coroner :: "The Internet of Everything"

The Death of the "Internet" -- and the birth of the "InterWorld"
Mashed articles by Pat Darnell  |  Nov 14, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture source Unknown] This small-cap company's product is roughly the size of a silver dollar -- but it enjoys a dominant market share and air-tight patent protection.

Who is talking about this? I checked my gmail, and up came Motley Fool, an investing group who has my number.

Meaning tens of billions of regular "things"... Sidewalks and cereal boxes...minivans and dress pants...the lawn mower in your shed and the pillows on your bed... Will soon be connected together in an Internet of Everything.

Gmail - They're turning off your Internet -- make $44,500 when the Web goes dark: "4 Words, Can't-Miss Opportunity... Get in NOW on "The Internet of Everything" Sounds kind of funny, doesn't it... "The Internet of Everything.""

'via Blog this'

Get ready for your new sneakers to be Internet-connected ... football helmets will show probabilities of plays success to quarterbacks in the huddle ... Your wedding rings will be Internet compatible so you never again forget your anniversary day ...

Need a stock tip for your future? Well this one might be a doozey. This bit proclaims every thing will be connected via internet. It claims the internet-connected devices globally will grow from 1.5 b
trillion devices to 50 billion devices by 2020.

Most investors haven't heard about the InterWorld yet -- they're still busy trying to figure out when Apple will release another piece of "iJunk".

Why NOW is the final stage of the Digital Era's "Implementation Gap"

Put simply, the Internet of Everything is the final stage of the Internet's progression.
But you haven't read this far just to hear the simple explanation!
So consider this: in 1969, when the Internet was first invented, it could only be used by a few professors operating some clunky switchboards in Menlo Park, California...
Future of the Internet
By 1986, a handful of high-powered players in the international community, including research institutes, educational systems -- and, so the rumor goes, the Pentagon -- were able to harness the power of the Internet for some secretive tinkering...
Then came the 1990's.
The convergence of desktop PCs and Internet Service Providers (or, as I like to call them, "those $@!% cable companies") brought the World Wide Web to consumers everywhere.
And for the next two decades, as companies like Apple and Samsung continued to release new gizmos and gadgets, the Internet went from being in two or three switchboards in California to two or three devices in every home in America.
But just like electricity made a snap transition from a "specialized technology" to a regular feature in everything from sneakers to school-supplies...
The Internet -- and all the potential for progress it brings with it -- is about to move from "Internet-Only" objects to EVERYDAY objects...
Meaning tens of billions of regular "things"...
Sidewalks and cereal boxes...minivans and dress pants...the lawn mower in your shed and the pillows on your bed...
Will soon be connected together in an Internet of Everything.
Granted, the "Internet of Everything" is just the term that scientists, CEOs, academics, and other brainiacs are using to talk about this incredible opportunity...
(And boy are they talking about it...in fact, for nearly a century the brightest minds in the world have been eagerly anticipating this enormous new market.)
But frankly, even though this shift will be absolutely massive in terms of its real-world impact, I think there's a relatively simple way to describe what's happening...

The Death of the "Internet" -- and the birth of the "InterWorld"

The Economist is breathless about how it will do everything from lowering crime to reducing road accidents...
The Wall Street Journal expects it to radically change both business and personal life -- from "the hand-towel dispenser in the washroom" to "your car, your kettle, your toaster... even the mousetraps in your attic."
The European Union is so convinced of this technology's massive impact that it already has a hush-hush multi-national committee (codenamed "Unit D4") working around the clock to introduce laws and governance for it...
And over in China the Beijing bureaucrats are planning to use it to make telephone-booth sized virtual health clinics for billions of rural villagers.
Heck, even the NFL is thinking about getting onboard. Pretty soon, referees might be out of a job...
Because the football will automatically "know" when it's crossed the goal-line!
CONCLUSION
We don''t make this stuff up. And MooPig loves to share Technological Deaths. Apparently Motley Fool's claims are based on population of 7.1 billion today. The purchase of the stock in the company they suggest is expected to increase at 89% a year for the next six years.
" ... [R]egardless of how you feel about the revolutionary technological shift the InterWorld represents, the facts of the matter are painfully clear:
  •  The InterWorld revolution is already underway -- and gaining momentum at an incredible pace.
  •  There is exactly one company that sits at the very heart of the InterWorld market...and it stands to rake in hundreds of billions of dollars between now and 2020. ... "
Of course, Motley Fool gives you all this information, but leaves out the name of the company that they recommend. It will cost you about $100 to find out what this is all about.

We cannot figure out why investment people write and vlog such long verbose speeches about what they are discovering. Do you know why? I get up to three new "blockbuster stock announcements" per day, but usually read, or listen, to only one every month. One a month seems tolerable.

We cannot offer advice on stock purchases because MooPig Enterprises doesn't know its ass from third base about stocks and stuff.

MooPig Brain Industries :: 'Minicomputers' Live Inside the Human Brain

Brain Synapses
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Oct 31, 2013 |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

'Minicomputers' Live Inside the Human Brain - Yahoo News: " "Dendrites thus act as miniature computing devices for detecting and amplifying specific types of input."

"Imagine you're reverse engineering a piece of alien technology, and what you thought was simple wiring turns out to be transistors that compute information," Smith said. "That's what this finding is like. The implications are exciting to think about."

All in all, "functions we thought required an entire neuron may be carried out instead by just one portion of a neuron's dendritic tree," Smith told LiveScience. "This would imply that a single neuron can act like many, many computational subunits.""

'via Blog this'

Are you feeling compartmentalized lately? Does your doctor keep sending you to "specialists?" Every time you get a blood test, the blood center calls back to say "all is normal." But you don't feel normal, like you used to. At age fifty some "tests" are mandatory; such as a endoscopy, eye tests, and urologists' tests. Let's not forget the prostrate exam, YIKES, I didn't study for any of these tests!

Your brain is depending on all these body functions to keep it running. Your whole physical makeup works in concert to nourish your brain with what it needs to get through every hour of every day.
" ... The human brain possesses about 100 billion neurons with roughly 1 quadrillion — 1 million billion — connections known as synapses wiring these cells together. (Charles Q. Choi, LiveScience Contributor. October 30, 2013. LINK)..."
All this discussion and not one word on the skill of surgeons. Where is the comparable reporting of neurologists skill? Or is that an oxymoron? What is your neurologists efficacy? Better than 10%? Look HERE.

CONCLUSION
I want even more brainpower so I can be an even bigger asshole. Ask your doctors how to achieve this. Tell them you want to be smarter than them.

MooPig Clandestine Operations Department :: Hack This Site!

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Jan 28, 2013 | Bryan TX

Hack This Site!:
So you want to learn to hack? Good luck with that. It seems that you won't learn to hack by studying online sources. And you sure won't learn how to hack from Tom Cruise.

'via Blog this'

These Hack Sites don't stay online very long. We attempted to LINK a few of them in this article, but they are already flagged in big red letters:
Client/Server Security Agent
Page Blocked

URL: http://www.hackthissite.org/
Rating: Dangerous
Threat details: Verified fraudulent page or threat source.
[ ... ]

From the romantic jargon of one site:
What Is a Hacker?

" ... The Jargon File contains a bunch of definitions of the term ‘hacker’, most having to do with technical adeptness and a delight in solving problems and overcoming limits. If you want to know how to become a hacker, though, only two are really relevant.

There is a community, a shared culture, of expert programmers and networking wizards that traces its history back through decades to the first time-sharing minicomputers and the earliest ARPAnet experiments. The members of this culture originated the term ‘hacker’. Hackers built the Internet. Hackers made the Unix operating system what it is today. Hackers run Usenet. Hackers make the World Wide Web work. If you are part of this culture, if you have contributed to it and other people in it know who you are and call you a hacker, you're a hacker.

The hacker mind-set is not confined to this software-hacker culture. There are people who apply the hacker attitude to other things, like electronics or music — actually, you can find it at the highest levels of any science or art. Software hackers recognize these kindred spirits elsewhere and may call them ‘hackers’ too — and some claim that the hacker nature is really independent of the particular medium the hacker works in. But in the rest of this document we will focus on the skills and attitudes of software hackers, and the traditions of the shared culture that originated the term ‘hacker’. (Eric Steven Raymond. 2001. HERE) ... "
Basic Hacking Skills
1. Learn how to program.

This, of course, is the fundamental hacking skill. If you don't know any computer languages, I recommend starting with Python. It is cleanly designed, well documented, and relatively kind to beginners.

2. Get one of the open-source Unixes and learn to use and run it.

I'll assume you have a personal computer or can get access to one. (Take a moment to appreciate how much that means. The hacker culture originally evolved back when computers were so expensive that individuals could not own them.) The single most important step any newbie can take toward acquiring hacker skills is to get a copy of Linux or one of the BSD-Unixes or OpenSolaris, install it on a personal machine, and run it.

3. Learn how to use the World Wide Web and write HTML.

Most of the things the hacker culture has built do their work out of sight, helping run factories and offices and universities without any obvious impact on how non-hackers live. The Web is the one big exception, the huge shiny hacker toy that even politicians admit has changed the world. For this reason alone (and a lot of other good ones as well) you need to learn how to work the Web.

4. If you don't have functional English, learn it.

As an American and native English-speaker myself, I have previously been reluctant to suggest this, lest it be taken as a sort of cultural imperialism. But several native speakers of other languages have urged me to point out that English is the working language of the hacker culture and the Internet, and that you will need to know it to function in the hacker community.

The Hacker/Nerd Connection

Contrary to popular myth, you don't have to be a nerd to be a hacker. It does help, however, and many hackers are in fact nerds. Being something of a social outcast helps you stay concentrated on the really important things, like thinking and hacking.

For this reason, many hackers have adopted the label ‘geek’ as a badge of pride — it's a way of declaring their independence from normal social expectations (as well as a fondness for other things like science fiction and strategy games that often go with being a hacker). (Eric Steven Raymond. updated 20 May 2012. HERE) ... "

More difficult to counter are the physical intrusions, which the military-industrial complex continues to develop and improve upon. (Nicholas West. 12 Jan 2012. LINK)... "

Probably the most "insidious" method of mind control is the practice of conscripting youth into the fascist and hive mindsets... commonly used by regimes that are less free than the West. But as a nation who spouts grandiose about our freedoms, we are closing in fast with our own fascism similar of others.

Yet, in America we have a "dumbing down" in our educational institutions that has no rivals. We have limited our youth to a life behind the veil of half-truths, or no truth at all. Click on this LINK to see a pdf of The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America.

MooPig Brain Industries :: BRAINDANCING SMORGASBORD: SYNVERGENT THINKING: Mind-Mapping, PhotoReading & Syntopicon Method

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | May 19, 2012 | Bryan TX

The Internet is the most interesting purveyor of Brain Science. It is a giant mind-map all its own. I had not surfed the Net for a while, but as soon as I did here jumps out this amazing blogger site. Cool brain industry all the way, Bob.

Take a Look.

What is essential to understanding is how much we retain of our reading and other stimulus gathering tasks. It is a sin to read and not retain some of the important parts. And, those of us 'with-out' the gene's that make us a few points near genius with photographic memories, mind mapping always seems pleasurable to the not so genius, mine, brain.

Call this a site review, but more than that ... it is a look into solving puzzles that we might have been stumped with for a lifetime.

MooPig Brain Industries :: "Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity"

Conclusion
Lumosity costs about $80 per year but there is a trial available on the site. The monitization scheme is the down side for me and probably a million other potential users. The exercises are fun and obviously effective in stimulating the suggested areas of cognitive ability. As for Lumosity's extended claim of increased cognitive ability, I obviously cannot say. I do tend to remember the items on the grocery list better and I can now spot a yellow bellied sapsucker while reading a speed limit sign. Seriously, research has shown that exercising brain faculty in this way is helpful and healthful. As for paying $80 to hone these skills, I think free games that emulate Lumosity could probably be aggregated by most users, but progress would be more difficult to track... Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity:
Train your Brain, play some games, get a score to ponder and we haven't paid anything yet for Lumosity. But you can be sure you might eventually have to pull out your Debit Card to continue... but the introductory is kind of fun ... if you like games.
'via Blog this'

Picture Your Improvement With This BPI Chart

Lumosity users often ask how much they can expect to improve with training. The short answer is you can improve a lot. The chart included shows the average Brain Performance Index (BPI) for users as a function of the number of Lumosity games played, up to 1000 total games. BPI is Lumosity’s version of IQ — it measures your ability to handle the speed, memory, attention, problem solving, and flexibility challenges on Lumosity...
About a month ago I began testing a fascinating new beta called Lumosity. The service is designed to exercise user's brains with a series of games that promote cognitive skills. According to Stanford neuroscience graduate and Co-Founder Michael Scanlon these exercises build cognitive ability in processing speed, cognitive control and attention. Playing these fun and simple games for as little as 30 minutes a day can promote quicker thinking, improve memory, increase alertness, improve concentration and even elevate a user's mood.
Lumosity was created by Lumos Labs a cognitive R and D company that builds software tools to improve brain health. Lumos was started in 2005 by Kunal Sarkar, Michael Scanlon and David Drescher, all of whom possess impressive scientific and/or business credentials. Lumos Labs also has a scientific advisory board comprised of some of the leading neuroscientists in the world.

So, fellow partners in dementia, here is one of those articles that alerts us to a possible cure. But what will become of that cure as the months go by? Like all exposing articles on miracle cures, they are lost in time and space. They are in the News, then no word is ever heard again.

Therefore, it is up to us to follow up on all MooPig's Brain Industries past posts, and give an accounting. This category was intended to document some of the newest products and services that capitalize on Brain Science; and, is there a trend?

We at MooPig International plan to keep this up until we see an aisle at the Walgreen's titled: "BRAIN."

BBC News - Alzheimer's brain plaques 'rapidly cleared' in mice: "Specialists said the results were promising, but warned that successful drugs in mice often failed to work in people.

Researchers Paige Cramer said: "This is an unprecedented finding. Previously, the best existing treatment for Alzheimer's disease in mice required several months to reduce plaque in the brain."

The exact cause of Alzheimer's remains unknown, but one of the leading theories involves the formation of clumps of a protein called beta-amyloid. These damage and kill brain cells, eventually resulting in memory problems and the inability to think clearly."

Group Urges 'Hit Limit' In Youth Football

Group Urges 'Hit Limit' In Youth Football - Health News Story - WISC Madison: " The adolescent football player's brain is rattled an average of 650 times per season. That's just an average. There are positions on the football field where the numbers approach 1,000 hits to the head."

'via Blog this'

"We regulate a lot of things in kids' lives and brain trauma should be one of them," said Nowinski. "There are kids getting hit a thousand times a season. Is that good for children's development?"

"You've got the toughest men in the room [NFL players] saying there is no such thing as a tough brain," said Nowinski. "If the NFL is willing to do that, then we should do that for kids as well."

And while a small fraction of those hits actually lead to a diagnosable concussion, the concern is that sub-concussive damage - the menacing smaller blows that add up during practices and games - could be as bad, or worse, for the brain.

With those sobering stats in mind, the Sports Legacy Institute Friday called for the adoption of a "Hit Count" - similar to the "Pitch Count" system used in baseball - for youth athletes participating in contact sports.

MooPig's Tech Coroner :: "The End of the x86 Era"

by Pat Darnell | Jan 8, 2012 | Bryan TX
[Vectra VL420 server type Pentium 4]

The End of the x86 Era | John C. Dvorak | PCMag.com: "All this was due to the x86 juggernaut and established mind share."

The Article says the usual gang of suspects are to blame for demise of the x86 structure. Suspects like fussiness, marketing, public relations, appliance envy, general laziness, and computers as toys, are killing the past work-horse PC architecture. But mainly "the x86 era is over because the public stopped caring about it when Apple introduced the first poke-and-shove GUI on the original iPhone in 2007. (Dvorak, John C. Jan 8, 2012)"

The general group of suspects includes the consumer who really "doesn't care how anything works." It was the dream of the ambiguous consumer that " ... Computers would be so simple that anyone could use them with little fuss ... "

Arguments divide "x86 architecture" into "speed freakism," and "brainiacism."
" ... It marked the victory of those who felt that extra performance was best achieved not by constantly upping the processor's clock speed, but by going for ever more parallel systems with much finer control of performance versus power consumption. (Rupert Goodwins, ZDNet.co.uk, 28 July, 2006 LINK)"
During the lifespan of x86, other architectures were tried by companies like Intel; they experimented with "Ada" and then with a "neural network processor" only to see them not make it into the public consciousness.

Chances are that we never fully use our x86 type Core 2 Duo type processors with our everyday work-play of Apps and software. If you are not mapping the floor of the ocean, or modeling the earth's crust with seismic readouts, you are probably using only a small part of your x86.

Therefore, the whole push for x86 over the decades has been to fine tune with macro-fusion, and micro-fusion, by recognizing instruction parallels. Intel then established ways to speed up the flow in the pipeline structure of the cores. This was done by recognizing at least one in ten instructions can be combined with another instruction, such as a mathematics comparison. Then, Intel limited the power usage for their cores by shutting down areas that were not being used. Intel got its parameters from studying all kinds of softwares.

For instance, what has powered the blog MooPig? Until this December 2010, it was a Vectra VL420 server type Pentium 4. It is a great machine ... for ten years ago. It was all I needed to post and blog and repeat. It quit working, so I replaced it with this Intel CORE i5 Vostro by Dell. The only difference is that I can do three times the posting, blogging and repeating as before.

That is why I feel sort of goofy when I read about all the power spinning in this new PC. What would happen if I ever tapped that resource? What more could I do?

What does the future hold? If you ask an American author, scientist, inventor and futurist -- Kurzweil, -- the future of computing is that all this you see surrounding you now, will be gone. The aspect of information gathering\processing will be part of our human bodies; some sort of nano-tech cells in our neural network. The future is body enhancement; tatt's and inserts. His inventions include optical character recognition... so that tells you a lot.

Kurzweil is more saint than doomsday prophet as his main industry has been to make the blind see, deaf hear and mute speak. Like a hearing aid, which by the way is very delicately hand made, a person wearing one doesn't care how it works -- he just cares that he can hear. That is the future of x86 architecture, does it work?

We cannot be lulled to sleep with ludicrous predictions doled out by research companies. We cannot be subdued by "battery life so we can sit, giggle, poke, and shove icons on a screen," as John Dvorak says.  Rather keep an open mind, and a fervent agenda, so that when the "Singularity happens, it will be ‘very obvious’(LINK)..." But it will not come without demise of the x86's.

Brain Industries :: Labeled, Desensitized, and Redirected -- SINGULARITY -- PART Five

Why Singularity? From the © 2010 Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Inc.
Quotes retrieved by Pat Darnell, Emphasis by MooPig
  • The Singularity is the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence.
There are several technologies that are often mentioned as heading in this direction. The most commonly mentioned is probably Artificial Intelligence, but there are others: direct brain-computer interfaces, biological augmentation of the brain, genetic engineering, ultra-high-resolution scans of the brain followed by computer emulation.
  • " The story of intelligent life on Earth is made up of beginnings. (SOURCE) "

Brave NEW Words: EXCERPTS
" There are people who would answer that intelligence is meaningful in itself; that "It is better to be Socrates unsatisfied than a fool satisfied; better to be a man unsatisfied than a pig satisfied." ... "
" ...The beginnings of human intelligence, or the invention of writing, probably went unappreciated by the individuals who were present at the time. But such developments do not always take their creators unaware. Francis Bacon, one of the critical figures in the invention of the scientific method, made astounding claims about the power and universality of his new mode of reasoning and its ability to improve the human condition – claims which, from the perspective of a 21st-century human, turned out to be exactly right. Not all good deeds are unintentional. It does occasionally happen that humanity's victories are won not by accident but by people making the right choices for the right reasons. (ibid. emphasized words by MooPig.)"
" ... The Singularity Institute exists to carry out the mission of the Singularity-aware – to accelerate the arrival of the Singularity in order to hasten its human benefits; to close the window of vulnerability that exists while humanity cannot increase its intelligence along with its technology; and to protect the integrity of the Singularity by ensuring that those projects which finally implement the Singularity are carried out in full awareness of the implications and without distraction from the responsibilities involved. (ibid.) ... "

" ... That's our dream. Whether it actually happens depends on whether enough people take the Singularity seriously enough to do something about it – whether humanity can scrape up the tiny fraction of its resources needed to face the future deliberately and firmly. (ibid.) ... "
