Bill Gates 2013 Annual Letter: " in the past year I have been struck again and again by how important measurement is to improving the human condition. You can achieve amazing progress if you set a clear goal and find a measure that will drive progress toward that goal-in a feedback loop similar to the one Rosen describes. This may seem pretty basic, but it is amazing to me how often it is not done and how hard it is to get right."

I think Bill and Melinda Gates are the new Jesse Jacksons of Global Business. They are going to get you to pay for vaccination of their young'un's and do it by 2015. Good or bad, it will be the way of Gate's.

I have been trying to read through this "Annual Letter" all morning... I read a bit ... then I get really tic'd off ... and asking myself "why am I so mad."

William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American programmer, inventor, business magnate and philanthropist. It is the same year I was born, 1955. And "BLIMEY" ... blaaahhh blaaaah sic blah!

From Gate's Annual Letter:

"...We're also not on track to meet one of the most critical goals-reducing the number of children who die under the age of five by two-thirds. We've made substantial progress. The number of children who die has declined from nearly 12 million in 1990 to 6.9 million in 2011. While that means 14,000 fewer children around the world are dying every day than in 1990, we won't reach the two-thirds target by 2015...."

Me and my wife spend all our time day in and day out trying to keep our six kids alive. What is the deal with Gates going to Ethiopia and gathering information on infant death? Hunh? Scooby Doo could do that without spending a billion, plus or minus. I am afraid we have giant morons from America going in all sorts of directions and creating mass confusion.

It is like this in my mind: The philanthropist leaning elite go out into the world, see some mess somewhere, and over-state the obvious. Sure we need to end poverty, female abuse, and child/infant mortality. But as the model for accomplishing this comes about we find nations saying: "We are in on these MDG's" while they haven't a penny in their coffers. So, you guessed it, all the funds come from the USA.

From the Gate's Annual Letter is this bit:

" ...I remember the disturbing images from Ethiopia of the 1980s when more than one million people died in a famine that swept through the Horn of Africa. It was a tragedy brought to the world’s attention by the 1985 Live Aid concert and part of a long period of war, political unrest, and instability for Ethiopians. Their country ranked near the bottom on nearly every key health indicator, including child mortality. ibid.) ... "

And ...

" ... When Ethiopia signed on to the MDGs in 2000, the country put hard numbers on its health ambitions. The concrete MDG goal of reducing child mortality by two-thirds created a clear target for success or failure. Ethiopia's commitment to the MDGs attracted unprecedented amounts of donor money to help improve its primary health care services. (ibid.)... "

Read this please as " ...Unprecedented amounts of donor money ... from the USA. ..."

The MDG's we speak of are the goals that the UN proposed in 2000, to be achieved by nations by the year 2015. You all have had some introduction to that over the years. Like all the other stuff the UN does, most everyone thought these MDG's would be filed away and forgotten. "Not so," says the letter writer.

" ... Government organizations assist in achieving those goals, among them are the United Nations Millennium Campaign, the Millennium Promise Alliance, Inc., the Global Poverty Project, the Micah Challenge, The Youth in Action EU Programme, "Cartoons in Action" video project, and the 8 Visions of Hope global art project. "Hey, Guys, I still don't feel a sense of achievement! I mean, I don't feel a warm fuzzy about those MDG's."

" ... "We have 1,000 days to reach our Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Now is the time to finish the job by accelerating progress," United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on the margins of the African Union Summit. Important successes have been observed in education and health targets, however, millions remain affected by poverty. In his address to Heads of State and Governments at the summit, the Secretary-General noted that success with accelerating the MDGs, "will depend on ownership by governments and civil society." Here's the poop on that:

" ... 783 million people don’t have access to clean, relatively safe, water and 2.5 billion people don’t have sanitation. "And this is the main reason why more than 3,000 children die every day under the age of five, because of diarrhea, dysentery, dehydration and cholera," Eliasson added. So, reader, you must think I am some kind of monster for not laying down a path of praise for the Gates and United Nations' dudes and dudettes. If you wish, you may make that assumption. I just really wish some of these mega-maniacs would lay down their collective egos and go out in the field, like Jimmy Carter does, and actually do something; like work with their own hands.

Here is what the web page for World Health Organization, WHO, says:

" ... The United Nations Millennium Development Goals are eight goals that all 191 UN member states have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015. The United Nations Millennium Declaration, signed in September 2000 commits world leaders to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation, and discrimination against women. Well, as we said, we at MooPig Enterprises adopt these MDG's along with all the high-minded global leaders and all their interns.

EPILOGUE

Yeah, good luck with getting your Bankers' Committee to agree on that one... what is the return on poverty?

A Space Idiocy

" ... 2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, and co-written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke. The film deals with thematic elements of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life. It is notable for its scientific realism, pioneering special effects, ambiguous imagery that is open-ended to a point approaching surrealism, sound in place of traditional narrative techniques, and minimal use of dialogue. But, what happened to that kind of science fiction. 2001: A Space Odyssey was the "only" Sci Fi Flick that I know of, that tried to show "weightlessness." How about it. There followed epic series of science fiction sagas like -- Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, LEX, Doctor WHO, and StarGate stuff, and not one deals with humans' floating in micro gravities of space... not one.

It bothers me so much I always look at the floors of the stage set in the episodes... kind of a throwback to the Yellow Brick Road from OZ. Here is 'me' watching Sci Fi: 'Is that really brick; or just tile?'

Weightlessness is too complicated for filming the mundane soap-operatic doings of these "driven" explorers of "out there?" We did get a glimplse of the "raison d' arte" of the Monoliths that  were introduced in 2001: ASO as shown in 2010: " ... 2010 (also known as 2010: The Year We Make Contact) is a 1984 American science fiction film written and directed by Peter Hyams. It is a sequel to the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and is based on Arthur C. Clarke's novel 2010: Odyssey Two, a literary sequel to the film. ... "

And look at this about the Jupiter Mission Movie, 2001: ASO -- " ... It was nominated for four Academy Awards, and received one for visual effects. In 1991, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. (YIPY, ibid) ... "

Those Monoliths are probably in a storage facility, or in someone's back yard serving their years as planters. That's my guess.
