MooPig NASCAR Department :: "Texas World Speedway near College Station... "

Track of Two Cities
Re-directed Spawn of Articles by Pat Darnell  |  July 28, 2015  |  Bryan TX

Texas World Speedway near College Station closing to make way for housing development | Fox News: "COLLEGE STATION, Texas –  Texas World Speedway will close in mid-June to make way for a $55 million housing development. The nearly 400-acre road racing venue near College Station held its first sanctioned race in 1969. The 2-mile oval has been the site of numerous Indy car, stock car and other races. Track CEO Bill Mather is also the developer who plans to convert the speedway into a community called Southern Pointe. Backers say the development will include 1,400 homes, commercial sites, nature trails and space for a school."

Whoever conquers telecasting live sports Online will be the winner of about 90 million viewers nationwide. ESPN is the reason many still have cable TV, as reported today in Business Insider Chart of the day. Meanwhile Texas World Speedway is no longer on the outskirts of the town it called home. It's land value has made it prime for a new purpose of housing.

These two phenomena correlate because since 1969 the Texas World Speedway was  in its beginnings far enough away from College Station/Bryan, and from Navasota Texas to not disturb bedroom communities with noise during night and day. It is 75 miles Northwest of Houston. Now the Speedway will become a bedroom community. "...The College Station City Council last week [March 2015] approved a development agreement to extend the city's planning authority to the property.(AP, March 17, 2015. LINK) ..."

And everyone in this vicinity will have to watch car races on cable provided by ESPN or others.

MooPig Open Source Department :: "Vacuum Tube Railroad" and "Flying Car" etc.

Elon Musk Reveals Open Source Design for 14,000 Mile-an-Hour Vacuum Tube Railroad | The Mind Unleashed: "Musk calls the system a cross between ‘an air hockey table, a railgun, and a Concord jet.’ It would likely travel at speeds closer to 750 miles per hour, rather than its potential 14,000, but that would have you drinking your favorite cup of cappuccino in Chicago, having come from Dallas in under an hour – likely less time than it takes you to manage your morning commute. ET3 and the Rand corporation are looking into the technology, but it is available to anyone who is interested in taking his ‘dream’ of faster travel to the next step, and making it a reality."

MooPig Tech Coroner :: "Remember East Germany?"

Edmunds.com calls the 1957 Trabant, a two-cylinder, two-stroke engine compact from East Germany, "one more reason why communism is evil."

Page 3 - 10 Worst Cars of All Time - TheStreet: ""Over the years, the Trabant has become an underground poster child for bad global cars," Oldham says. "It was produced for a long time, but never got better, never [embraced] any technology improvements" despite 30 years in production."

There's a guy down on Boonville Road, Hwy 158 toward Huntsville who sells four-wheelers that have more horsepower than the East German beauty, "Trabant." Get 'em while they're young!

MooPig's "One Hundred Years"

What is different today from a hundred years ago?
Re framed by Pat Darnell | Jan 12, 2012 | Bryan TX

The report, "Climate: Observations, projections and impacts," examined how climate change will modify the weather in 24 countries around the world. Floods, heat, migration: How extreme weather will transform cities (George Webster, for CNN. January 2, 2012)

What Difference Does a Hundred Years of Humanity Make, Anyway?

by Jean Kinzel  ::  ‎1911 Ford Model T

The year is 1911 --- One hundred (and one) years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1911:
************ ********* ************
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph..
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,
A dentist $2,500 per year,
a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year,
and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at home.
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION.
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which
were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month,
and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from
entering into their country for any reason.

The Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5.. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada, was only 30!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was neither a Mother's Day nor a Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent
of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter
at the local corner drugstores.

Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion,
gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels,
and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health!"

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help ....
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. !

Geez, try to imagine what will be said about 2012 in another 100 years.

Caption This ! :: "Cars, Assassins, and Drivers"

What Is Distracted Driving?
There are three main types of distraction:

  1. Visual — taking your eyes off the road
  2. Manual — taking your hands off the wheel
  3. Cognitive — taking your mind off what you’re doing

Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract him or her from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing.

While all distractions can endanger drivers’ safety, texting is the most alarming because it involves all three types of distraction.

Other distracting activities include:

  • Using a cell phone
  • Eating and drinking
  • Talking to passengers
  • Grooming
  • Reading, including maps
  • Using a PDA or navigation system
  • Watching a video
  • Changing the radio station, CD, or Mp3 player.

Did You Know?
Research on distracted driving reveals some surprising facts:

  • 20 percent of injury crashes in 2009 involved reports of distracted driving. (NHTSA).
  • Of those killed in distracted-driving-related crashed, 995 involved reports of a cell phone as a distraction (18% of fatalities in distraction-related crashes). (NHTSA)
  • In 2009, 5,474 people were killed in U.S. roadways and an estimated additional 448,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes that were reported to have involved distracted driving. (FARS and GES)
  • The age group with the greatest proportion of distracted drivers was the under-20 age group – 16 percent of all drivers younger than 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported to have been distracted while driving. (NHTSA)
  • Drivers who use hand-held devices are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves. (Source: Insurance Institute for Highway Safety)
  • Using a cell phone use while driving, whether it’s hand-held or hands-free, delays a driver's reactions as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent. (Source: University of Utah)
