If there were such a thing in 1964; what size would the device have been, what would have powered it, and how would it have sent out its radio frequency?

Above the Racal adapter is a model TFS-3 Frequency Shift Converter with a tone demodulator, a device necessary to drive a printer. The TFS-3 was designed for the reception of Double and Single Frequency Shift signals.

At the very right is the Technical Material Corp XFK107 Frequency Shift Keyer. To the right of the keyer (and out of sight) was a teleprinter. This team has set sights on exploring a variety of novel phenomena caused by the strong electron correlations, such as exotic superconductivity and anomalous magnetotransport, aiming also at their application to functional devices. We make full use of our experimental facilities to investigate the quantum critical phenomena and the chemistry of the field-effect doping. We have elaborated a strategy as follow:

1) The 'quantum critical phase' is to be explored by scrutinizing electronic properties under high pressure.

So we need to contrive a special setup, implementing a physical-property measurement under extreme conditions, i.e., an unprecedented system satisfying both the quite high pressure and low temperature at the same time. The measurements are to be performed for a variety of high-quality single crystals synthesized at the crystal-growth lab in our research center.

2) Required is the fabrication of a metal-insulator-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MISFET) structure at the interface between a gate dielectric thin film and a substrate of the strongly correlated electron systems (either a single crystal or an epitaxially grown thin film).

Then, we should underpin the precise as well as continuous carrier-density control by the field effect near the quantum critical point of, e.g., the insulator-metal transitions (Mott transitions) in order to pave the road toward the device physics of strongly correlated semiconductors.
