Many American veterans would look at Germany's progress with caution, seeing as how fighting men and women of WWII kept us all from speaking German back in the '40's. But if we can push aside our natural suspicion of Germany, it should make a light go on in your head, that it is possible to provide renewable energy to the grid system in relatively quick turn around time.

So, where are the YAHTZEE'S and banners of congratulations on a job well done? We looked around.

• At peak, solar furnished 20.5 gigawatts, with wind peaking at 16.6 gigawatts.

Germany Reaches 59% Renewable Energy Peak, Power Grid Doesn’t Blow Up: "Earlier this month on a very sunny and windy day, Germany managed to hit a peak of 59.1% renewable power generation, and what’s more, the heavily industrialized country’s power grid did not explode, Greentech media has pointed out. It was around midday on October 3, which just happened to be Germany’s annual Reunification Day holiday, when the sun was at its fullest and the significant peak was reached. Over the entire day, 36.4% of total electricity generation was achieved with solar and wind power; solar panels contributed 11.2% on their own. At its peak, solar accounted for 20.5 gigawatts."

What's Up with Our Sun?

Dayton Daily News : Biggest solar storm in years races toward Earth: "The sun erupted Tuesday evening, and the most noticeable effects should [have] arrived here between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST Thursday, according to forecasters at the space weather center. The effects could linger through Friday morning.

The region of the sun that erupted can still send more blasts our way, Kunches said. He said another set of active sunspots is ready to aim at Earth right after this.

"This is a big sun spot group, particularly nasty," NASA solar physicist David Hathaway said. "Things are really twisted up and mixed up. It keeps flaring.""

NASA has released a photo of the most recent coronal mass ejection that happened from March 8th, 2012 at 11:38pm EST to March 9th, 2012 12:53am EST. The photo is provided above as our first picture and is available on NASA.gov media page as well. The image was captured using the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).

It is the largest solar storm to hit the earth since 2004. It continues to flare the outer atmosphere creating aurora borealis all through Sunday, today.

On Thursday March 8th, 2012 another solar flare started to erupt sending another round of solar storm March 2012 excitement.

“So how do you know where you can see the Northern Lights? You can actually pinpoint your geomagnetic latitude location using NOAA’s SWPC map that will show you whether you’re in the sweet spot which is as far south as 56.3 degrees. There are numerous Aurora forecasting tools and a few searches should help you to pinpoint other locations.”

The Aurora Borealis is a natural display of light in the sky. It is caused by a collision of charged particles with atoms in the thermosphere. It is often seen in high latitude regions, but the solar storm allowed people to view the Northern Lights lower latitude areas of the world. This event is named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas.

The tortoises can't stay where construction crews might harm them, so the biologists are moving them to pens to ride out the desert winter. In the spring, they'll try relocating them to the wild.

One more example of why describing environmentalists as a "movement" is so ironic. There is no Movement, only resistance to Movement, i.e. one roadblock after another. They Block all advancements while dithering and whining about "potential problems" while real, certain and present problems crush the environment. Environmental Impact statements (aka full employment for enviro-consultants), costing millions and eating up years that could both be better spent DOING SOMETHING have served only to limit and restrict innovations, advancements and improvements.

The tortoises will be fine and continue to adapt and survive, as they have for millions of years, where they are located or re-located. Enviros should learn that Nature & Earth cares little about their whiny concerns and self-aggrandizing pronouncements about what is "best" for the world.

I'm so happy to have green energy to save the environment! Well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that we won't waste rooftop space and blight our urban ecosystem with nasty solar panels there. Whew. And really, I'd much rather spend money moving tortoises around than spend it on energy. And thank god their not drilling for gas out there! Can you imagine the impact of a road to a gas well?

The good fat is actually brownish, while the more predominant bad fat is white or yellow. Brown fat is stored mostly around the neck and under the collarbone. White fat tends to concentrate around the waistline, where it stores excess energy and releases chemicals that control metabolism and the use of insulin.
All three research groups documented the presence and activity of the brown fat by examining tissue samples from some patients and using high-tech imaging that indicated how much sugar, and therefore calories, the fat burned.
