MooPig Tech Coroner :: "Pacific Ocean, PART 2"

"After we left Japan it felt as if the ocean itself was dead,'' Macfadyen says.
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Oct 26, 2013  |  Bryan TX

"I've done a lot of miles on the ocean in my life and I'm used to seeing turtles, dolphins, sharks and big flurries of feeding birds. But this time, for 3000 nautical miles there was nothing alive to be seen. (GREG RAY. Oct. 18, 2013. LINK)"
The ocean is broken | Newcastle Herald: EXCERPT  |  " ... The wind still whipped the sails and whistled in the rigging. The waves still sloshed against the fibreglass hull. And there were plenty of other noises: muffled thuds and bumps and scrapes as the boat knocked against pieces of debris.

" ... What was missing was the cries of the seabirds which, on all previous similar voyages, had surrounded the boat. The birds were missing because the fish were missing.

" ... Exactly 10 years before, when Newcastle yachtsman Ivan Macfadyen had sailed exactly the same course from Melbourne to Osaka, all he'd had to do to catch a fish from the ocean between Brisbane and Japan was throw out a baited line. ... "

CONCLUSION
No fish, no turtles, no teaming gaggle of birds, no whales, no life... EQUALS... a dead Pacific Ocean. Every so often we at MooPig mourn the passing of a technology that has gone by the wayside due to modern, supply side driven technologies. Today, we mourn the passing of a very large technical part of the earth -- the Pacific Ocean. It has been polluted to its breaking point by civilization who does it in the name of "clean energy:" in the name of "security:" and in the name of "progress."

" ... What is the greatest threat to humanity? We are, of course….and our technology. Like a dangerous weapon in the hands of a child, technology has overtaken our capacity to control potential consequences. Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute, led by director Nick Bostrom, says we have entered this new kind of technological era that we have no track record of surviving.

Our technological intelligence may have the potential for creating a better world, but so far, in areas of the economy, genetics and biologics, arms and warfare, security and surveillance, as well as the environment and energy, technology is also completely indifferent to the law of unintended consequences.

Fukushima is what happens when we have the moral responsibility of infants and the technology of adults. (Dr Caldicott. March, 2011. LINK)... "

The Tortoise And The Solar Plant: A Mojave Story
by SARAH MCBRIDE  | October 30, 2010 | Retrieved by Pat Darnell for Ed Purposes
EXCERPT" ... 'This is one that was walking down the middle of the road when it was spotted by one of the monitors,' Woodman says. 'Luckily, we've got a radio transmitter on it now.'

He's looking at an adult female tortoise; she's about the size of a dinner plate, and the transmitter is glued to her shell. It almost looks like a stray twig.

The tortoises can't stay where construction crews might harm them, so the biologists are moving them to pens to ride out the desert winter. In the spring, they'll try relocating them to the wild.

Vaughn spots a tortoise with a crushed shell that is trying to move its legs, but they barely wriggle. It's the type of injury tortoises get when an all-terrain vehicle or motorcycle accidentally rides over them. (SOURCE, Oct 30, 2010) ... "
Love these COMMENTS; after all they are Free Source... [I just made that up!]

One more example of why describing environmentalists as a "movement" is so ironic. There is no Movement, only resistance to Movement, i.e. one roadblock after another. They Block all advancements while dithering and whining about "potential problems" while real, certain and present problems crush the environment. Environmental Impact statements (aka full employment for enviro-consultants), costing millions and eating up years that could both be better spent DOING SOMETHING have served only to limit and restrict innovations, advancements and improvements.

The tortoises will be fine and continue to adapt and survive, as they have for millions of years, where they are located or re-located. Enviros should learn that Nature & Earth cares little about their whiny concerns and self-aggrandizing pronouncements about what is "best" for the world.

I'm so happy to have green energy to save the environment! Well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that we won't waste rooftop space and blight our urban ecosystem with nasty solar panels there. Whew. And really, I'd much rather spend money moving tortoises around than spend it on energy. And thank god their not drilling for gas out there! Can you imagine the impact of a road to a gas well?

Audrey G (AudreyG) wrote:
“Tortoises don't really like that kind of attention, and sometimes, they let the scientists know. ‘They will pee,’ Woodman says. ‘And they can pee copiously if they have a full bladder.’ He's talking from personal experience: ‘It does have an odor. It's a musky scent.’"

I love their style!

Can we borrow these SMART tortoises please? Since we have a dysfunctional Congress, I thought these tortoises could use the same technique to show how ANGRY American people are about what is happening on Capitol Hill.

Late breaking news has the turtle eggs hatching in coastal region of Texas, in Pearland suburbs.

There is no more detailed information at this time. But the news will be soon coming as soon as our live web
cam is configured and running in Hurricane alley. We will be proud to give exclusive coverage on this event that is by MooPig standards -- more exiting than the race for president 2008.

We are hearing that power is being restored in the Coastal Plains there in Texas.
Back to you Master Splint'r...

"On September 20, 2008 five turtles hatched in my office buried in a plastic tote full of potting soil. They have been there since July 2, 2008.

"Some friends came over to get respite from no "Electri City". (Houstons new evil "Twin City".

"They made some kick ass tortilla soup and the turtles started hatching. Five of seven emerged. I knew one egg was damaged, it didn't hatch. One little buggar couldn't make it. But I have five strapping red ear slider turtlettes,Donatello,Michelangelo, Raphael,? and Splinter. Someone help me out with number 4's name.

"I'm the proud daddy of my little amphibians. They will get to swim around in their tub for a couple of days. Then they will enter the Country Place lagoon system. I'll tear up, I know, but they should be free." (DpdAssoc; September 21, 2008 6:45:00 PM CST)

turtle turtle turtle turtle, oh look, a bucket full of crabs!

Turtles:
can be deadly...

can be cute

or just down right retarded...

(not a picture of me)

okay, one summer, about two years ago, mom and i decided to take a trip down to the local H.E.B.. we walked around the store, filling the basket up with necessary things, and found ourselves in the fish section. they were selling blue crabs... mom had the idea of purchasing them as a joke. so we did, which was totally not normal, especially for her. those little things were SO evil! they snapped at me... anyway, we bought everything and made our way home. patrick was out and about, so we had time to plan. we decided to place the crabs in a bucket a fourth full of water. :) then we placed them in the tub. turtle, aka patrick, got home and tripped out seeing the crabs. we thought it was hilarious.
