Comment # 338 HERE | 11-06-2008 @ 7:58PM Texas' Buck Burnette Learns Why Racist Obama Facebook Updates Are Dumb...
This is a misleading Title, review by Pat Darnell
The FezBook remark/forwarded message is not related to the "punishment." This is the old parallel mirrors reflecting you into infinity case of "Rules were made to be Broken," -- by the authority, that is.
I think while everyone commenting tries to define racism, I will just laugh at you. Did anyone ask a UT Team Authority why the "backup center" was let go? The reason is unspecified.
Point #1: [I'll go real slow for you now] Shown is the forwarded comment right here on this page: "all the hunters gather up, we have a #$%&er in the whitehouse" forwarded by Will Brinson, author, and now by me.
Is Will Brinson going to lose his position now for repeating the comment?
Point #2: You have to click the article linked to this page to see: "lineman Buck Burnette has been kicked off the team by head coach Mack Brown for an unspecified “violation of team rules.” Rumors are swirling about what Burnette did..."
Point #3: College football is all about Scholarship money. It can only be taken from a player if he/she resigns it or if rules are broken. Coaches are usually in the hot seat to find loopholes in scholarship rules to let a player go... if that player's scholarship is needed for a newer or different player or reason... according to trustees -- capito?
In other words someone is telling me that "the Coach" is an expert on what racism is? That might be truer than the accusations.
My answer is that if this comment in fezBook is the reason for the players dismissal, it is a violation of freedom of speech, from the aspect that fezBook is a "social network." It has nothing to do with Racism or Treason.
My final answer. pd/moopig

Following is the article -- by Will Brinson
"Texas Longhorn lineman Buck Burnette learned this the hard way. See, here was Buck's Facebook status following Barack Obama's win the presidential election:
"all the hunters gather up, we have a #$%&er in the whitehouse""Geez, Buck. Even if you actually feel that way -- which is sad -- why not just keep it to yourself? You know, instead of telling five million people. But he didn't, and naturally, he is now paying the price; he's been kicked off the UT football team.
"On the very tiny bright side, Burnette at least claims to be somewhat remorseful and not racist, issuing the following apology:
Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I sincerely am sorry for being ignorant in thinking that it would be ok to write that publicly and apologize to you in particular. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.
"Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, but it doesn't really help the whole situation. (6.10.2008; Retrieved HERE)"

Seems as if Buck forgot the # 1 rule in football; "Let the honkies block and the blood run."
Taken to new levels as President-elect-Obama staffs up with old Clinton white guys.
good one, D2. Your Alma Mater beckons your strong spirit.. eh?
To preface this comment, during the summer of 1966 the UT Tower shooter did his deed on The Commons. Killed a bunch, wounded many more. I had been to the campus many times that summer. My peers and I were still in mourning for JFK. Except the Goldwater Republicans and they never tried to hide their relief.
"Those were the times that tried men's souls."
In the fall of 1966 the 40 acres allowed a total of 64 students of the Negro race on campus. I think the Spanish surnames were non-existent. There were a few Japanese exchange students in the
science labs. Enrollment was already in the high 20K range, maybe close to 30.
Plenty of kitchen help openings at the frat and sorority houses.
After six months of hazing, drinking, playing poker, working two jobs and taking 15 hours I began to wonder if this was real.
It was, I wasn't.
There was a trainer on the football team named Medina who taught football players how to survive torture. Major college ball is, to me, a farm league for the pros. The college boys should be paid and trained properly to become pros. The Pro Leagues should pick-up the tab for most college sports and stop all of the deceit about amateurism.
So, I know, you ask "What's your point, Dave"?
Beats me,somebody I love, said we could wail on our blogs, OWWWW-OWWWW-OWWWW, OOOOOOOOOOOOO!
All I ever wanted to be was a Horned Frog. dd
Is that TCU Horned Frogs? I think that is something I never knew about you, young man.
Athlete's are sometimes referred to as the last "ascetics." Before steroid type supplements, being an athlete certainly was all about sacrifice.
No fizzy drinks, plenty of sleep, no smoking or imbibing... etc. was the only way to survive in the lineup. To be a starter was to be a geek-dweeb-jock... no? I resemble that remark too.
