SUMMARY
We can't go day to day holding our breath waiting for eruptions like our Yellowstone caldera. But we can take note of other mass disasters, such as Syria has now 2.2 refugees crossing its borders to get away from its wars. Or, we can look at the most recent earthquakes that wreaked havoc on millions in Haiti, and in Japan. These disasters really do occur. It may be difficult to make these "far off" cataclysms part of our lives as we drive the US Highways in our Chevy Suburbans. So, being warned of what might be happening in your own backyard will probably remain on peoples' minds, on the back burner for now. [Please watch THIS]
CONCLUSION
Natural disasters do set off a chain reaction. Other man made systems, like manufacture of energy, a meltdown follows a natural disaster. Like the nuclear meltdown of Fukushima, Japan, nuclear power plants went offline and now are in meltdown after the Japanese earthquake-tsunami natural disaster.
Honestly, we have no coping mechanism in place for the kind of suffering that can, and will, be caused by natural disaster. Since written history of human occupation of the earth describes numerous extinction level events, we must assume the worst case scenario.
