Italian Fact of the Day #46: Pronunciation - It's...: "Italians pronounce every letter in every word.
This is an interesting contrast to French, a language [the writer] studied for eight years, which sometimes ignores the pronunciation of the last half of a word and replaces it with a breathy noise.
Even Italian Americans ignore this fact of the Italian language when pronouncing Italian words. Often Italian Americans drop the last letter or two, contrary to Italians. “Mozzarella” becomes “mozzarel,”"

BBC News - Costa Concordia: What next for the stricken ship?: "This goes on all the time but you don't hear about it because they aren't as spectacular as this one. But there's always a ship in trouble somewhere."

What's Going On in the Euro Zone? :: "Italian Debt Adds to Fears"

Italian Debt Adds to Fears in Euro Zone - NYTimes.com
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | July 10, 2011 | Bryan TX
EXCERPTS | " ... The euro zone has been shaken by the fiscal troubles of Greece, Portugal and Ireland, though their economies are relatively small. The Italian economy is more than twice the size of the combined economies of those three countries. If investors were to drive Italy’s borrowing costs to unsustainable levels, it could imperil the entire European monetary union. ( Castle, Stephen. July 10, 2011. NYT: [LINK]) ... "" ... Speaking on Sunday at a conference in Aix-en-Provence, France, the president of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, said Europe was at the “epicenter” of a debt crisis that had to be of concern to the entire developed world. (ibid. Castle, Stephen) ... "
European officials were to meet today, Monday, July 11, 2011, to discuss Greece's economic woes. It seems, Italy is suddenly become a hotter issue for financial speculation. But officials are not going to discuss Italy.
" ... The special session of top European officials is to start about 8:30 a.m. Monday, when a scheduled meeting between Mr. Van Rompuy and the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, will be expanded to include Mr. Trichet; the European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, Olli Rehn; and Jean-Claude Juncker, the prime minister of Luxembourg, who presides over meetings of the so-called Eurogroup of finance ministers from the 17 countries that use the euro as their official currency. (ibid. Castle, Stephen) ... "Italy has a debt 120 percent of its annual gross domestic product. A recent big market "sell off" came after speculators sensed a growing tension between Prime minister of Italy, Berlusconi [MooPig Articles: Berlusconi and, The Opposite is True] ... and "tough minded" finance minister of Italy, Tremonti. "...Fighting to keep the deficit under control, Mr. Tremonti has been reluctant to endorse some of the tax cuts that Mr. Berlusconi and other politicians desire. (ibid. Castle) ..."
If Berlusconi cannot decrease strains in government, Italy will be swept into the "Euro debt crisis that has begun in Greece."
" ... [T]he European Central Bank has been very skeptical about involving private sector holders of Greeks bonds in the second bailout, an aid package estimated at 85 billion euros -- $121 billion. Germany appeared to push for its original idea that investors swap the Greek bonds they hold for new debt with longer maturities. (ibid. Castle) ... "

What? We've Run Out of Lambs?
MOOPIG art appreciation divulges the unique:
The 1990 wooden sculpture shows the crucified frog nailed through the feet and hands like Jesus Christ. The frog, eyes popping and tongue sticking out, wears a loincloth and holds a mug of beer and an egg in its hands.
An art museum in Italy refused Thursday to remove a 3-foot-tall sculpture displaying a green frog nailed to a cross. Both Pope Benedict XVI and officials in the city of Bolzano have objected to the controversial artwork...
Museum Defies Pope Over Crucified Frog By ARIEL DAVID, AP
ROME (Aug. 28) - An art museum in northern Italy said Thursday it will
continue displaying a sculpture portraying a green frog nailed to a cross that has angered Pope Benedict XVI and local officials. PHOTOS: Museum types arguing similarities and vulgarities in frog visions...
The board of the foundation of the Museion in the city of Bolzano voted to keep the work by the late German artist Martin Kippenberger, the museum said in a statement. [clik HERE to continue article]
"With humor and a tragicomic sense, which belongs to art since the times of Greek tragedy, Kippenberger ... faces his condition of suffering, which he expresses in many works, also, for example, in a video in which he crucifies himself," the museum said in a statement.
Hang Down Your Head, Pope Benedict..
Hang Down your Head and Cry
No one's listening to you
That frog's an idol in their eyes!!
Questions Anyone?? Yes you in the back there by the smudges on the wall...
Ammnewyork (02:52 AMAug 29 2008)
If this is art, then the museum people can start putting dung on their faces, feces on their lips and tell their visitors it's art.
They can wear urine as perfume and call it art. They can replace a frog [for] Jesus, the center of Christianity's faith and call it art.
I wonder if these museum cognoscenti can treat Mohammad, revered by Islam, just like that.
That's how cowardly they could be. Fohgeddaboudit! (Ammnewyork)
