MooPig Tech Coroner :: CO2 and Your Momma

The new app that tracks your carbon footprint — and lords it over your friends | Grist: "Ian Monroe wants you to beat your Facebook friends at a new game: Who has the lowest carbon footprint?

"... Monroe is the CEO of Oroeco, a recently launched web app that tracks a user’s personal impact on climate change. The app not only helps you quantify your own footprint — based on your spending habits, made possible through linking up with Mint.com — but by logging in with Facebook it’ll allow you to compare your carbon sins with those of your virtual community. Ultimately, Monroe wants to motivate users to emit a little (or a lot) less greenhouse gas. In other words, go ahead and feel green – with envy, that is..."
'via Blog this'
"... or the only other way I can make a meaningful dent is to buy legitimate carbon offsets. There are definitely some carbon offset projects that are a bunch of bullshit, but there are also some projects that are really good. Those are the ones we’re building into Oroeco’s platform, to make it easy for people to give to them..."
CONCLUSION
Going Green tends to alienate people rather than galvanize the populace. Why is that? MooPig Galvanizing Department will be asking that question a lot in the near future.

The lesson here is if you want to be the communist half of your country, you might consider choosing the southern half of the boundaries. It is the same here in the USA, socialists inhabit the Northern half of the country; rugged individualism survives in the South. It is a growing divisive issue worldwide, as the Global South is attacked by starving communist corporate dog-asses who would turn food production into a colossal automaton mess. Food and Water supplies will force new boundaries all over the world, especially in North and South Korea. [Read Entire Article HERE]

MooPig Report from the Middle :: "CO2 is the Biggest threat to the Middle"

“Now I know I've got a heart because it is breaking. - Tin Man” (L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)

"For God so loved the World ..." this is how every Southern Baptists' boilerplate verse from the Bible; John 3:16, begins. What is not fully understood by all those evangelists is that God is not speaking of just the world of humans ... rather the Creator Almighty is speaking of all of creation of Earth, which might be fairer without the inclusion of humankind. It turns out, by all measurements of CO2 today, it is a big mistake to think otherwise.

While mega-turd politicians act confused about the Syrian front, there is a greater threat to American security.

The years should not gauze over how the world was conned into an awful conflict. To keep the water from rising we have to mandate a worldwide cut in Energy-related CO2 emissions by half by 2050 (compared with 2009) and continue to fall afterwards.

How Many Gigatons of CO2? | Information Is Beautiful:

'via Blog this'

CONCLUSION
It is MooPig Wisdom's hope that you dear reader will find some helpful information starting with the chart and LINKs, graphs, statistics and numerical predictions on CO2, included in today's post. In our own search for answers we find terrifying warnings, and abominable shortcomings by countries.

Will anything be done to curb our self-destruction -- anything that is humanly possible? Apparently only an act of God will make the earth long-term-inhabitable by all creatures, and, things big and small. Is it only a test of humans' resolve? Hard to say for sure.

Let's pretend that humankind takes a backseat in destroying all its natural resources, and actually puts the environment in the driver's seat. And let's give it a date to be transformed: let's go with August 29th, 2045. I will be 90 years old and still poor. But by then will the earth's oceans cover many shorelines that existed in 2013?

The only thing that can survive fifty or a hundred years is a sovereign, focused, linear derived family unit; one that can invest right now outside the given rules, today, and reap their benefit in 2100, in tomorrow's long term. That brings to mind Rothschilds and those like them. They seem to have all the luck when putting the brakes on things magnanimous. It would be a shame to lose all of the earth and everything in it.

Will robber barons be the ones who finally step up and clear the air? I am holding my breath.

That's our concerns for this hour from the Middle -- where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are all above average.

MooPig Tech Successes :: "What ever Happened to the Ozone Hole?"

Chlorine Destroys Ozone
Mashed from sources by Pat Darnell  |  July 21, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Observers have noticed since 1974 that certain chemicals send our ozone into chaos. Ozone in the upper atmosphere absorbs harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. It is a chemical thing. Ozone is a "variant" of oxygen, after all, and susceptible to chemical reaction. In the mid-1980's, ozone awareness was raised in the international consciousness. It was discovered that there was in fact a huge "hole" in the ozone in the layers over the frozen deserts of Antarctica.

What the researchers call “happy time” comes in the afternoon when the tides return and they gather — along with a rotating cadre of graduate students — outside the Winter Palace on an old dock laid out on the lawn to compare notes, gossip and have a snack. "What ever happened to the ozone hole?" they ask.

We Observers then have a larger system to inspect, if we are to find answers elsewhere. One author says the number of possible systems is similar to trying to count every particle of a gas filling a room, "to determine how the particles are distributed." Entropy models proposed are still crude and can not calculate the possibilities in this example. However, even gross observations using entropy detection has produced good results.

Why should we be concerned with a thin, life-sustaining, layer of atmosphere made of rare Oxygen (O3) molecules, anyway? "Intergalactic space lacks both the particles to form us, and the energy to sustain us. It is self-evident that we live in one of the regions that are life friendly. In the multiverse, too, many regions have properties that are incompatible with the existence of observers: They might be entirely empty, or their physical laws preclude any complex structures. (RAPHAEL BOUSSO. October 17, 2008. LINK) ..." And, a central tenet of thermodynamics is the “second law,” which states that a quantity called entropy cannot decrease.

Whatever Happened to the Ozone Hole?: "The ozone layer lies between about 9.3 and 18.6 miles (15 and 30 kilometers) above Earth's surface. This blanket of ozone, or O3, blocks most of the sun's high-frequency ultraviolet rays. These UV rays can cause skin cancer and cataracts in humans, as well as reproductive problems in fish, crabs, frogs, and even in the single-celled phytoplankton at the bottom of the ocean food chain.

Ozone is created naturally when oxygen molecules (O2) high in the atmosphere get broken by sunlight into two free oxygen atoms. A free atom can then bond with an unbroken O2 molecule, and ozone is born." (Brian Handwerk. National Geographic News. Published May 5, 2010. HERE) ... "

For example:
" ... Local ozone reductions approaching 50% in magnitude were observed during the Antarctic spring in the 11–13 and 25–30 km altitude regions over South Pole and McMurdo Stations in 1991. These reductions, at altitudes where depletion has not been observed previously, resulted in a late September total ozone column 10–15% lower than previous years. The added depletion in the lower stratosphere was observed to coincide with penetration into the polar vortex of highly enhanced concentrations of aerosol particles from volcanic activity in 1991. (D. J. Hofmann*, S. J. Oltmans*, J. M. Harris*, S. Solomon†, T. Deshler‡ & B. J. Johnson‡. 24 September 1992. LINK) ... "
"If we had just kept letting CFCs increase at a pretty nominal rate, characteristic of the 1970s, the decreased ozone levels of the hole would have eventually covered the entire planet," said atmospheric physicist Paul Newman of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. (Handwerk. May 5, 2010)

'via Blog this'

SUMMARY
Ozone is created naturally when oxygen molecules (O2) high in the atmosphere get broken by sunlight into two free oxygen atoms. A free atom can then bond with an unbroken O2 molecule, and ozone is born.

Ozone is unstable, however, and it's easily broken up by trace elements.

In that rarefied air, ultraviolet light breaks the molecular bonds in CFCs and free chlorine atoms get released. Chlorine then destroys ozone molecules by "stealing" their oxygen atoms.

The disturbing discovery set the stage for an environmental triumph: the Montreal Protocol of 1987.

Now a complete rebound seems imminent. Some scientists project that by 2080 global ozone will return to 1950s levels.

CONCLUSION
No one single person, or entity, has a personal expansive Body Of Knowledge, BOK available to handle all of these issues by one's self: -- like available to an MD, Climate Specialist, Environmental Scientist, Economist, and Editor, and so on -- all wrapped into ONE ???? NOT LIKELY !!

Each specialty attracts persons from that field. That is the beauty of a Project Body Of Knowledge ... right? Like that synergy thing that Bucky Fuller delineated, that the total is greater than the sum of the parts... Although we here at MooPig Enterprises like to think we can handle any information that explodes onto our screens, the Ozone question is a system of a downer being turned upright.

Follow the ..... Carbon?

PHOTO: Tim McGraw with his head stuck in a tree

Hey that lump of coal in your Christmas Stocking could be worth a fortune to you.

A
"carbon market" is built on the idea that,if greenhouse gas emissions are capped by law, then the legal right to emit these gasses becomes a commodity that can be traded. But without legislation, there can be no market, as IDEAcarbon (pdf) acknowledges:

The global carbon market is moving into a critical new phase of development. If it is to succeed over the long term, both in its role in reducing carbon emissions and as a financial market in its own right, legislators need to provide certainty of a regulatory framework that will be robust, flexible, and valid over the long term.

The company’s website is surprisingly candid about the influence it exerts over the UK Government:

Working with the key decision makers who are shaping the future of the market enables us to accurately predict market trends and provide tailored strategic advice to clients.

In other words, the interests of investors and national policy makers must be aligned. And it would be most fortunate if they were one and the same.

Prominent environmental campaigner, and author of Kyoto 2, how to manage the Global Greenhouse, Oliver Tickell protests of carbon trading schemes that, "Carbon fortunes are indeed being made, and many of them in the City of London, which dominates the global carbon marketplace". Instead, he favours carbon offsetting – paying poor people not to develop their economies – rather than trading.

But Oliver’s eyes are greener than his mind; he too stands to profit from his environmental activism. His father, former diplomat and patron of the neo-Malthusian Optimum Population Trust, Sir Crispin Tickell, who made the first arguments influential for the greening of the UK Government in the 1970s with his book, Climatic Change and World Affairs, was appointed chair of a committee to check the integrity of carbon-offsetting firm, Climate Care, part of JPMorgan's Environmental Markets group.

Every Good Secret needs an authenticated Relic

This [Carbonized Grist] hit the Fan over a year ago, and grew into a head of carbuncle puss on the face of Americans through Al Gore...

MooPig has to ask the tough questions, so here goes:

Q: "Has anything happened since?"

Answer: Yes; oil prices have risen to $130 a barrel...
In London, August Brent crude rose $2.86 to settle at $134.86 a barrel on the ICE. Gas prices will likely hold steady near current levels, as long as oil continues trading in its current range between roughly $132 and $138, analysts say. (MSN/AP; 20/ June/ 2008)

Al Gore won an Oscar for his movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. This was a lock, of course, because all the beautiful people in tinsel town are environmentally sensitive and love the beauty of nature. Many own second homes built in pristine areas of the country so they can enjoy all the untouched beauty of these places. Not counting the slight touching necessary to build their homes.

Their new mantra is global warming and the recession of the polar ice cap. I guess things have been warming up lately and the polar ice cap is receding. The cause of all this is not really clear however. The polar ice cap used to cover most of North America and extend down to Kentucky and has been receding — for the last four million years. Another one of those inconvenient truths.

Al Gore’s Convenient Oscar
by beth — published on March 6th, 2007

‘Ol Al wants to help the environment by asking all of us to reduce our carbon footprint thereby doing our part for the climate. Good idea Al, maybe you can start by reducing the dimension of just your regular footprint. Have you seen the size of this guy? He is rapidly becoming the poster child for morbid obesity. The best thing he could do for the environment is to back off the grub a little bit and give the rest of the food chain a break.

Al Gore would have won the 2000 presidential election if he could have carried his own state of Tennessee. We could have a President Gore! He may decide to run again. That is an inconvenient truth that should cause all of us to break out in a cold sweat.
