Have you ever been told you have your mother's eyes? Or has anyone ever told you you have your father's maniacal three personality bombastic attitude? Hey, it is not so far-fetched that our family patriarchs and matriarchs have passed on their physical and behavioral traits to us siblings. Eh?

As far as D. D. Faraday can see, sitting editor of MooPig's Biological Basis of Behavior Department, epigenetic inheritance is possible in first generation of humans, if habitat is a big factor. "Epigentics is a new area of study," Says D. D. Faraday.

Observers have long thought that traits are only passed down if there is a biological link from parent to child. Evidence now shows up in experiments with mice that DNA might be the ultimate link for many passed down behaviors.

Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, chapter by chapter.

We hope our readers, whether familiar with the Origin..., The, or not, will join Whitfield in his month-long journey through this classic work.

Darwin Day is a recently instituted celebration intended to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin on February 12, 1809. The day is also an opportunity to highlight Darwin's contribution to science and to promote science in general. (why Ikki peed ya)

I [John Whitfield] ...want to imagine it's the 24 November 1859, and that the copy I've just picked up at my local book shop (the 1982 Penguin Classics edition) is in fact one of the 1,250 first editions published that day...That evening, I settle in the parlour, put a taper to the gaslight, toss another urchin on the fire, and begin reading. Will I be thrilled? Horrified? Sceptical? Baffled? Bored? Let's use part of our brains to try and ignore all that we now know about Darwin's biography and legacy, pretend that this is our first encounter with his theory, and that evolution must stand or fall on the quality of the science and writing in the Origin.

I [John] have two main, and entirely contradictory, aims. [What I say above and] , I want to read Darwin from the perspective of someone reasonably clued up about evolution at the beginning of the twenty-first century, and see how the man's ideas stand up in the light of what we know and think about genetics, ecology, evo-devo, paleontology and the like.

I, Pat Darnell, do not believe in evolution as stated in Origin of Species, The, simply because by now something should have jumped out of the ocean and started walking. And I did read Origin of Species, The, ...at least pigs should have flown by now ...don't you think so?

In the study, 23 female patients having liposuction in at least four different body areas agreed to have their fat isolated for adult stem cells and analyzed to determine stem cell concentrations. Q. What are the chemicals being injected?

LipoDissolve® consists of phosphatidycholine and deoxycholate (fosfa-tid-ul-koleen and de-oxy-kolate). Phosphatidycholine (PPC) is a naturally occurring substance within the body that comprises up to 60% of cell membranes, facilitates cell membrane transport, and is a component in bile that is responsible for emulsifying the fat we consume in our diet for absorption. The PPC used in most injectable fat reducing formulas is derived from the soybean lecithin. Deoxycholate, present in the body as sodium deoxycholate, is a bile salt that functions to make the PPC soluble in water. It acts as a detergent and also aids in the breakdown of fat consumed in our diet. Benzyl alcohol is present in the solution as a preservative and antimicrobial.

Q. How does it work?

First the injected solution disrupts the fat cell membrane. This causes the cells to burst, releasing their enzymes and fatty content. Second, an inflammatory response ensues, allowing the debris to be “cleaned up” by the macrophages that have migrated to the area. This inflammation is responsible for the redness and soreness but also allows for tissue retraction. Lastly, new collagen is deposited in the area, causing skin retraction with denser, firmer skin character. The fat and cellular debris that are removed are collected as waste and excreted through the body’s normal metabolic pathways (urine and feces).
