In January, 2009, on the other hand, a search for new heroes is embodied in the phrase "Land it like Sully," a reference to the hero of US Airways Flight 1549, Chesley Sullenberger.
Today the Enterprise floats on the Hudson reminding us of yesteryear. Of course, all agencies with the resources for it conduct deep-think consumer/culture research. [LINK]

Enterprise on the Hudson
Enterprise, the prototype for the space shuttle fleet, arrived at the Intrepid Museum in New York City on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, to the museum's Space Shuttle Pavilion, which will open to the public on July 19. Thousands however, got a sneak peek as they watched the shuttle move up the Hudson River.
In this image, the shuttle is being towed by barge from a port in Jersey City, N.J. to the Intrepid, a retired World War II aircraft carrier that is now used to house aerospace and maritime exhibits.

"On Knowing What Gives Us Pleasure," by Samuel Butler - Classic British Essays - Classic Essays, Speeches, and Letters
"On Knowing What Gives Us Pleasure," by Samuel Butler - Classic British Essays - Classic Essays, Speeches, and Letters:
Samuel Butler spoke a hundred years before faceBook in his "The Way of All Flesh (1903), a biting document of Victorian sensibility." In the following essay, drawn from The Note-Books of Samuel Butler, he encourages us to be honest about expressing our likes and dislikes--"to make sure of our ground and be quite certain that we really do like a thing before we say we do."
'via Blog this'
Then out of the cacophony of chatter, commentary, and silly-gisms we derive our windfall of pleasure.

"...A man had better stick to known and proved pleasures, but, if he will venture in quest of new ones, he should not do so with a light heart. (Samuel Butler) ..."When we "LIKE" something today on faceBook, it means we "read it." And, we acknowledge that a clever attempt at a clever comment has been made by our friends and acquaintances.

NASA Talk :: "Endeavour Lands Wednesday Morning in Cover of Darkness"

EXCERPT | " ... Bright lights also illuminated the landing strip for Kelly, who made the 25th night landing out of a total of 134 shuttle flights.
The Endeavour astronauts -- all experienced spacemen -- departed the 220-mile (354-kilometer) -high orbiting outpost over the weekend. They installed a $2 billion cosmic ray detector, an extension beam and a platform full of spare parts, enough to keep the station operating in the shuttle-less decade ahead.
Their flight lasted 16 days and completed NASA's role in the space station construction effort that began more than 12 years ago.
The official tally for Endeavour, after 19 years of flight, was 170 crew members, 299 days in space, 4,671 orbits of Earth and 122,883,151 miles (197,752,094 kilometers). ... "

Alex, Atlantic's 1st hurricane of season, rumbles toward Mexico, Texas coastlines

" ... MIAMI - The first Atlantic hurricane of the year has strengthened to a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of near 100 mph as it plows ahead toward a collision with the Mexican Gulf coast and south Texas.
The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Alex will make landfall in northeastern Mexico sometime Wednesday night.
The storm is far from the Gulf oil spill, but cleanup vessels were sidelined by the hurricane's ripple effects. Six-foot waves churned up by the hurricane splattered beaches in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida with oil and tar balls.
Hurricane Alex flooded roads and forced thousands of people to evacuate fishing villages.
The eye was about 55 miles northeast of La Pesca, Mexico, and about 105 miles south of Brownsville, Texas. ..." (ap, 2010.06.30, hurricane alex)

Why NOT name Earthquakes like we do Hurricanes?
[SOURCE] | " ... An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck southern Mexico early Wednesday, the US seismological authority USGS reported on its website.
A 49-year-old man from San Andres Hauxpaltepec was killed when the ceiling of his house fell onto him, a civil defence official told The German Press Agency dpa.
The quake, which struck the Oaxaca region some 350 kilometres south of Mexico City at about 2:20 am (0720 GMT), had little other effect, local officials said.
Numerous buildings were evacuated in the wake of the 30-second quake. Power was lost in some regions, but communication networks remained intact - in contrast to earlier earthquakes in Mexico.
The epicentre of Wednesday's quake was located at a depth of 20 kilometres, according to the USGS. ... " (Wed, 30 Jun 2010 20:43:51 GMT. By : dpa. Category : Nature Environment) ... "

January 27: Land it in the Hudson
An expression used to encourage yourself or someone else when it appears an endeavor is headed for a disastrous outcome (due mostly to external conditions). Based on when Sully averted tragedy by successfully landing US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. See also, "Land it like Sully."
The company is on the brink of failure, so let's Land it in the Hudson.
