MooPig "How to Write a Blues Song" Department

Hey Jeff, Have you ever Fancied Someone you Shouldn't?
by Pat Darnell  |  Mar 26, 2015  |  Bryan TX

Hostility is worsened when humans try to intervene. Not a good opener for a Blues song, but very pertinent. As is oftener the case our lives are carved out not as a map of ideals we live for, rather by choices made along the way while in places that embed themselves in our heads.
"I was in the street
On Grand Avenue..."

There is a relentless hope in all to love and be loved no matter in what place one finds himself. Unless a person is fully jaded, he is looking for someone to share his journey. Many choices we make are begun while looking for a partner.
"People huddled
Cold and damp..."

Without partnership, cold places seem colder, hot places seem hotter, and wet places seem unbearable. But with chosen partners the coldness is manageable, more of a friend, and less of a ghost. Our Blues song lives in a sort of faded social corner in our minds, the in-between land, a non-committal zone. We liken our situation to others who magically have made choices that ease their lives. Our situation seems comical to others who fancied what they should have fancied and didn't shoot for the stars.
"My lady dropped me
from a four story building..."

In the pain of a mix up, like picking the wrong gal, if one were living on Venus, he would be frozen, fried, and crushed in a Venus-crush. Every field he walks in would be filled with cockle-burrs, and ticks, that stick onto his flesh. And he has little choice but to rip them all off his skin, and continue roaming.
"She sure enough threw me
Off a four story house..."

Then, as a form of self-preserving, our minds lock onto a repeated utterance or theme. In the Blues song this is the Refrain. Some of these utterances coupled with melody can become the chant of an entire generation of human offspring. It can rock the micro waves till hotter than a moon beam.
When I dove,
My blood froze,
On that cold avenue.
She clapped her hands
whipped her hair, and s'ed
'Papa, that weren't cool.'

And so it is questionable who threw who, and what will become of him that hit the floor? Reminded that this is written in late winter, say March, and the beautiful death of winter can be another yet softer snow, covering every available surface. Hollers of people on the avenue are strangely reflected off each snowflake as cars, houses, eyebrows slowly collect snow. Voices carry on snowy evenings, and various tragic and humorous situations are picked up. All around cars are stuck in peculiar positions, dogs jump and bite the air, "Wasn't there a sidewalk there?" And words never convey all that is going on.

Out of diversity of life comes genius of adaptability in snow muffled cries of success and failure.

Old Jeff, Old Jeff,
c'mere and rest...
...Your toasted self...
Feeling kind of hungry,
just might be that you could help.

Gary Grainger

This has just been posted by a Blues Show listener and virtual buddy Patrick Darnell - I am gobsmacked, thanks man!

Dolphins line up and pay to swim with him ...
His own children call him Pope G ...
His slide guitar strings were auctioned off at an undisclosed price ...
His passport requires no photo, just a mustache ...
He don't listen to Sinatra, but when he doo bee doo bee doo ...
His feet don't get blisters, but his shoes do ...
If he were to punch you, you would have to fight a strong urge to thank him ...
He doesn't always sing along with his favorite songs, but when he does he sings along with the guitar solo too ...
Every zoo is a petting zoo, if you're not a pussy ...
He can speak Russian ... in French ...
When he slices onions, the onions cry ...
The Holy Grail is looking for him ...

He doesn't often drink beer but when he does it's Old Chimneys Good King Henry Special Reserve ...

Gary Grainger is simply the most interesting Blues DJ east of the Mississippi.

MooPig Blues Department :: "Texas Blues as a Crime against Texans"

[Picture LINK]

Rife with Blues
mashed mixed articles by Pat Darnell  |  Aug 2, 2014  |  Bryan TX

If mothers knew how much long term brain damage contact football does to football players [of all ages] would they let their children play football? Football is rife with brain concussions, it is a rite of passage for footballers.

Do you think those mothers would allow their children to play the Blues, if they knew it is an art form that thrives on the locale where it is played? Yep, that's right. You can take the football away from the player, but you can't take the Blues out of the child. And that is a liability in Texas.

Tribute to the Lone Star State: Dispossessed Men and Mothers of Texas | Music News | Rolling Stone: "Most non-Texans tend to think of Texas people as blustering self-righteous assholes, to state it bluntly. That's more or less Janis Joplin's view of the people around the oil refinery town of Port Arthur, where she grew up rebellious and rejected. "Man, those people hurt me," she recalls bitterly. She painted and read poetry, and that made her different, weird. a freak in the eyes of civilized Texans. "I had a lot of hurts and confusions. You know, it's hard when you're a kid to be different. You're all full of things and you don't know what it's about.""
'via Blog this'

In the Lone Star State, if you have a non-conforming attitude about your life's direction, beware. There are plenty of Texas Southern Baptists and Ecumenical's ready to pounce on your shit.

You might have to have a yard sale and go west.

CONCLUSION
"... Texas is part of the Old South, but the further west you go across the state, the less prejudice and conservatism and general tight-assed-ness do you encounter. Which is sort of true nationally and may explain why so many Texas musicians have drifted as far west as they can go, to San Francisco. "All this propaganda that this was a free city, that you could dress or do anything anyway you wanted to, smoke dope without a lot of trouble – that's what brought them here," says Tracy Nelson, Mother Earth vocalist whose band is 75% Texan in origin. "They were really driven out of Texas, man. It's a really stupid bunch of clods back there and all the Texas cats I know hate that Texas mentality and all the bullshit."
"No question about Texas soul," Doug Sahm agrees. "But, listen, you pay, dues for that soulfulness. You pay dues for that soulfulness, man."

How to live like a king for very little By THOR HARRIS « Monofonus Press: EXCERPT  |

1.  Don’t smoke cigarettes.
2.  Drive old Japanese cars.  Easy and cheap to fix and they run for fucking ever.
3.  Buy most of your groceries from the produce section.  Most of that other shit is not actually food. You don’t need it.
4.  Ride your bike instead of driving as much as you can. You need the exercise and gas is expensive.
5.  Don’t have kids.  They’re not miracles, they’re people.  7 billion is too fucking many. Find some other way to give your dull existence some meaning. BTW they’re expensive."

16. Preventable expenses - STD’s, abortions, DWI’s, lung cancer, head injuries, speeding tickets, cirrhosis of the liver.
17. Don’t go on fancy dates if you’re not fancy. Most people kind of despise the rich anyway.
18. When you go see shows, bring a flask in. That way you can afford to buy a record.
19. If you had told me 15 years ago that Coca Cola would put tap water in plastic bottles and motherfuckers would BUY IT …… No fuckin way.
20. Don’t get cable. Asshole. There is nothing on. I promise. $100 a month ? Fuck no!

This list was edited by Stacey Yates with contributions from Jherek Bishoff, Chad Raines and Amanda Palmer. We live in a wasteful society. Live well. It don’t take much. Really.

And those are priceless suggestions for keeping costs down... but we have a few ourselves.

21. Don't buy electronics when they come out. But them when they are only pennies on the dollar 30 months after they appear on the market.

22. Don't Christmas shop before Christmas ... do all your shopping after December, just give your kids vouchers of what they can expect for say, le Befana Day, on January 6th.

23. It's okay to have kids, as long as you raise them as if they are poor.

24. Never join a pyramid marketing scam unless you are the first person to start it.

25. Never declare bankruptcy, just work for cash for eleven years and use cash for all your purchases, at the end of which you will have good credit.

26. The payback on buying land or real estate is around twelve years.

27. Invest in shoe leather.

28. Don't give money to cults.

MooPig Horse Bits :: "Eating Horse - A Modest Proposal"

Scooped by Pat Darnell  |  Feb 27, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

In our quest to be clever in the face of bombast, MooPig has recently stumbled upon a situation. Europeans have been mixing horse meat with their beef and selling it to the public to eat. And much of the horse meat comes from exported American horses.

We may be opening Pandora's lunchbox here, as beef shortages are reported, that Americans might have to start eating some horse themselves. Be warned.

What we are warning about is that Monsanto might have already purchased all the patents and copy rights on all horse meat. Yes, they are usually way ahead of the curve when it comes to malnutrition. Can horses be the new genetically modified meat source? And, when that source is depleted, what is next?
Jonathan Swift - A Modest Proposal: "”I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled, and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout. ...”"
Are nations looking for easy answers to complex problems? You bet they are. It's a classic tale, feed the poor with the poor, feed the rich with the poor... it's the circle of the rich, for the rich, by the rich.
I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children. (Jonathan Swift (1667-1745). LINK)

NEXT WEEK  :: The next big thing -- Australians are about to discover that they've been eating a combination of emu, roo, and lamb as "beef" for years -- which probably explains why Australian life expectancy is so much better than American, British or Canadian life expectancy. Eh?
