I don't remember ever seeing pictures like this. I would love to visit these places, and have a camera with me. Some of the post modern precast concrete forms are absolutely beautiful in their dilapidated states. This is not "urban blight" and it's not "rural blight" ... it's something else. Many of these ruins are located on prime sites for tourism. So is it called "tourist trap blight?"
The photo's at the referenced site show not just abandoned ruins of hotels, they also show what has happened since being abandoned. Walls became bases for graffiti, ceiling tiles falling away showing stresses of gravity as hangars give way and duct work falls through the ceilings. Rubble on the ground is juxtaposed to fancy wood work in lobbies, and at check-in counters. Nothing is as sad as an abandoned stairway, as some are spiraling to the mezzanine, and others rusting as they descend to a plush beach. All that is missing is people stumbling around the place looking for a buffet, or a towel.
Go on look at these slides, it is a trip you might consider, if you are a junkie for desolation and dilapidation, eh?
