MooPig Freelance Journalist Department :: 'Hijacked flight 370..."

This is a Mystery Topic Challenge
mashed articles by Pat Darnell  |  Apr 8, 2014  |  Bryan TX

If we believe the simplest explanation, as explained in Occam's Razor, the solution to any mystery is the solution that requires the fewest guesses, assumption, to the problem's solving. Eh? So, this story came out after the disappearance of Flight 370.

We waited to post this bit, just to see if this solution held up. As you can imagine this story gave hope to a lot of grieving survivors of those who might have perished in the disappearance. It turns out, the story is a hoax. And the simplest solution still remains that the airplane had mechanical/electronic/hydraulic failure and careened off course and sank to the deepest part of the Indian Ocean.

Freelance journalist: 'Hijacked flight 370 passenger sent photo from hidden iPhone tracing back to secret U.S. military base Diego Garcia' | Intellihub News:

'via Blog this'
" ... Stone also points out in detail how the above Exchangeable Image Format (EXIF) image data is the “smoking gun”, writing:

The Exif is intact. Exif data gets embedded in every image by every camera and includes the circumstances under which the photo was taken. It can be viewed by saving the image to your desktop, and then right clicking it and selecting image properties. Hit the details tab. You can see that the image was taken on March 18 with an iPhone 5, with the ISO at 3200 and a shutter of 1/15. The coordinates are included in the exif data because the iPhone knows where it is, and the coordinates are for Diego Garcia. THE FIRST TIME A BLANK PHOTO SAID IT ALL.

Exif can’t be rewritten with common software, it can only be added to in fields such as image credits with some advanced applications. It can be erased as well but NOT CHANGED. Photos with the exif intact will hold up in court. If the Exif is hacked and this is not real, the CIA or a really good hacker did this, which I doubt, I’d say it’s probably real.

Another smoking gun is that the voice recognition software put the word personal instead of personnel. This is completely consistent with a blind software assisted dial out.

Surrounding this story is the fact that the man who managed to get this information to Farganne (forum member Glitch) was harassed and received many threatening voice mails over it, that is another piece of evidence pointing to this as being real. One thing is certain, once it’s posted here on this site the genie is OUT OF THE BOTTLE. I cannot stress how important it is that the GPS coordinates in the photo do not perfectly match what Google says and are not posted anywhere on the web, because it proves that the source of those coordinates did not come from Google or Wikipedia, they really did come from the imaging device and it HAD TO be at Diego Garcia when it took the photo.

MooPig Trade Show Department :: "Reviewing CES 2013"

Another Opening, Another Show
by Pat Darnell | Jan 20, 2013 | Bryan TX

The International Consumer Electronics Show is innovation. However, CES, January 6th through 11th, 2013, has been criticized as "lacking" in luster. Several reasons make it so: manufacturers have their own time tables for moving their new products. Such as Microsoft, who released Windows 8 in October 2012, and all the innovative, new laptops followed. All happening before the trade show and exposition.

In the past new products were most often showcased at the CES which has been in January over the years. Here are some of the innovative products you can expect in the coming months.

These items caught the eye of the poor bastards down in MooPig's Electronics Department in the basement.

Huh?

Tactus' morphing touchscreen was quite likely our all-around favorite device at the show. It combines a great idea with interesting potential and that full-on science fiction wow when you first see the "keyboard" inflate. Tactus hopes to see products shipping with its tactile touchscreen this year in devices ranging from phones to devices for the visually impaired. We wish them well and look forward to checking out what may eventually come of this technology.

At first glance the HAPILABS HAPIfork seems more novelty than tech -- and may well prove to be -- but it definitely stepped away from the norm and garnered a pile of attention. The idea is you use the fork as you normally would, but it keeps track of how long you eat, how quickly and how many bites you take. It then shares these metrics with a Runtastic-like site. Eat too quickly and the fork or spoon -- the end is detachable -- will vibrate to let you know to slow down a touch. The $99 HAPIfork ships in Q2 this year.

CES 2013: top 10 moments | News | TechRadar: " Xi3 Corporation and Valve talk Steam-powered Piston Gaming is usually a sideshow at CES, but it stole major spotlight this year thanks to an announcement by Valve. The company chosen to be Valve's first public partner in this venture is the Xi3 Corporation. Xi3 has a CES presence, too. They showed off the Piston, said to be the fruit of their partnership with Valve.

While their representatives wouldn't talk specs or availability, or even refer to the prototype as a Steam Box, Xi3 already has powerful and compact systems on the market. Like the rest of the gaming community, our curiosity was piqued. The possibility of a machine like this bringing PC gaming to the living room, and competing with the upcoming Xbox 720 and PS4 is beyond exciting."

Playing around with ThinkGeek's table full of toys was unquestionably a highlight of 2013 CES experience, which is (thankfully) nearly at an end. In amongst the always awesome licensed Star Trek and Star Wars toys was the Princip Interactive LED Futuro Cube, a strange game device created with ThinkGeek. The device brings to mind the Rubik's Cube, if only because its a geometrical puzzle game. In place of colored squares are a series of different colored LED lights.

Like Rubik's famous three-dimensional toy, the Futuro isn't particularly easy to master. It has a menu system and offers up a series of audible commands to access its different games. Getting started takes a quick shake and it can be put to sleep with couple of taps. There's also a USB port on one side for downloading software updates, including new games.

Nokia is here to show that the maker community isn’t alone in its love for 3D printing. The mobile phone maker has released a 3D-printing Development Kit, cutely named 3DK for short, that gives people the files and information they need to print a custom Lumia 820 back case.

The company is essentially making it possible for its users to tailor their phone to their tastes, an unusual move in a space where companies exert tight control over their technologies and design innovations. Nokia is, according to Nokia, the first major phone company to do this.

It released the files for the Lumia 820 back shell on Friday. They can be found on the company’s developer site here, here and here.

MooPig Tech Coroner :: "Remember Ma Bell?"

" ... ATandT, for instance, has suggested shutting down its old copper wire system — the only telecommunications platform that worked in some areas after Hurricane Sandy because it relies on a separate, minimal supply of electricity. ... "
Snagged by Pat Darnell, and, TN Correspondent Beka Gunter on faceBook  |  Dec 2, 2012  |  Bryan TX
" ... Just as canals and railroads let America grow in the 19th century, and highways and airports did so in the 20th century, the information superhighway is vital for the nation’s economic growth in the 21st. The nation can’t afford to leave its future in the hands of the cartels. (David Cay Johnston, November 27, 2012. LINK) ... "

" ... As of now huge parts of the United States will never get on the information superhighway but will rather slog along on the digital equivalent of a country road. This presents a genuine economic threat to America: the future industries and jobs that require a universal ultra-high-speed network, after all, will most likely be developed somewhere else. ... "

Phone Broke

To all within the sound of this blog, I will not be broadcasting from this broke device.

Yes I am phone broke in more ways than one.

Whether you've dropped your phone in the toilet (as do 885,000 British citizens per year), or made the mistake of trying to take underwater phone cam portraits of your pet fish, you'll want to find out about a little trick that may save your phone from a water-logged death (or at least keep it on life support long enough to transfer your photos, contacts and other data to a new one). [SOURCE]

Remember, though: It's only a phone. Don't ever risk your life chasing a phone that's been dropped in water ... unless you count fishing around in a public toilet a risk to your life, which it might very well be. As we've previously reported, two drowning deaths have recently been linked to cell phones: a boy who tried to fish his out of a lake and a man who went chasing after his in a sewage drain.

Do You Feel Thwarted?

Who's your Thwarter?
by Pat Darnell and Merriam Webster

I do at times feel thwarted. For instance, when did I become aware of the evolution of my internal instinctual clock from hours of the day to microanalyses "minutes" of the month?
THWART: Pronunciation: \ˈthwȯrt\ Function: transitive verb Etymology: Middle English hwerten, from thwert, adverb Date: 13th century

1 a: to run counter to so as to effectively oppose or baffle : contravene b: to oppose successfully : defeat the hopes or aspirations of 2: to pass through or across
synonyms see frustrate
— thwart·er noun
Asking myself this morning: Is this the beeper lifestyle I have avoided with all my protoplasm for half a decade? Yes, my life cycle has been thwarted.

Despite that I look around my self, and feel phatt with premium rollover ATandT "minutes" numbering in the thousands. Hmmmmmm... yummy.

Last month, it turns out, I used four "minutes" total on my cell phone. Four minutes?! YIKES! In contrast my children used 68,000 TEXT-ing "minutes".... Luckily those are "unlimited minutes." If not how would I ever pay for those minutes at even five cents per? YIKES -- again?! Oh, shoot here goes my organism parallax brain cell splitting hysteria.

That is some kind of world record, no? How many minutes are in a month anyway? Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes a year... carry the one... divide by binary ten to the twelfth....about 43,800 minutes a month. Two tween-agers can do a lot of damage in one month... together they exceed even the number of minutes actually in a month.... YIKES --- Thwarted!!!

We thought Vietnam was the Domino -- no its 6 billion people all texting world wide each with 525,600 minutes a year... and the rollover and the premium voice minutes plus the anti negative minutes of a voice mail call back... and [brain shutdown; organism at rest till further notice]

Random Abstractions of Chaos, by Pat Darnell

If everyone has a phone, then I don't need one. Right?

Last night my 13 year old kept us informed hourly where she was in the neighborhood via her friend's cell phone. We never had the least sense of worry all night. I wondered how Halloween night this year would play out since we just had a knock-down-drag out with NEXTEL about their lack of service. We told them we almost never get a signal when we try to use our cellulars. They said we do have signal and told us to pay our contract. We held back a month's payment. NEXTEL answered by disconnecting our cell services during this interim.

For over a year with NEXTEL/Sprint cells, we have experienced poor to none signal quality here in the Brazos Valley Texas. They have denied we ever had a problem, and threatened us with breach of contract.

I thought breach meant if either of the parties did not give service of signal for payments we would concur and cancel the contract... oh brother did I go to the wrong B-law classes?

Somehow we now have to send a nasty letter of complaint to the FCC about having no signal in Brazos County. And we are stuck with NEXTEL/Sprint contract now breached by both. They turned off our phones. So be it!

In conclusion, I had a realaxed evening, and my daughter had a wonderful night with her friends, because everyone doesn't need to have a phone if everyone has a phone. >>pd
