MooPig Freelance Journalist Department :: 'Hijacked flight 370..."

This is a Mystery Topic Challenge
mashed articles by Pat Darnell  |  Apr 8, 2014  |  Bryan TX

If we believe the simplest explanation, as explained in Occam's Razor, the solution to any mystery is the solution that requires the fewest guesses, assumption, to the problem's solving. Eh? So, this story came out after the disappearance of Flight 370.

We waited to post this bit, just to see if this solution held up. As you can imagine this story gave hope to a lot of grieving survivors of those who might have perished in the disappearance. It turns out, the story is a hoax. And the simplest solution still remains that the airplane had mechanical/electronic/hydraulic failure and careened off course and sank to the deepest part of the Indian Ocean.

Freelance journalist: 'Hijacked flight 370 passenger sent photo from hidden iPhone tracing back to secret U.S. military base Diego Garcia' | Intellihub News:

'via Blog this'
" ... Stone also points out in detail how the above Exchangeable Image Format (EXIF) image data is the “smoking gun”, writing:

The Exif is intact. Exif data gets embedded in every image by every camera and includes the circumstances under which the photo was taken. It can be viewed by saving the image to your desktop, and then right clicking it and selecting image properties. Hit the details tab. You can see that the image was taken on March 18 with an iPhone 5, with the ISO at 3200 and a shutter of 1/15. The coordinates are included in the exif data because the iPhone knows where it is, and the coordinates are for Diego Garcia. THE FIRST TIME A BLANK PHOTO SAID IT ALL.

Exif can’t be rewritten with common software, it can only be added to in fields such as image credits with some advanced applications. It can be erased as well but NOT CHANGED. Photos with the exif intact will hold up in court. If the Exif is hacked and this is not real, the CIA or a really good hacker did this, which I doubt, I’d say it’s probably real.

Another smoking gun is that the voice recognition software put the word personal instead of personnel. This is completely consistent with a blind software assisted dial out.

Surrounding this story is the fact that the man who managed to get this information to Farganne (forum member Glitch) was harassed and received many threatening voice mails over it, that is another piece of evidence pointing to this as being real. One thing is certain, once it’s posted here on this site the genie is OUT OF THE BOTTLE. I cannot stress how important it is that the GPS coordinates in the photo do not perfectly match what Google says and are not posted anywhere on the web, because it proves that the source of those coordinates did not come from Google or Wikipedia, they really did come from the imaging device and it HAD TO be at Diego Garcia when it took the photo.

NASA Talk :: "Ion Thruster"

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Dec 31, 2012 | Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]

Ion Thruster Sets World Record
While the Dawn spacecraft is visiting the asteroids Vesta and Ceres, NASA Glenn has been developing the next generation of ion thrusters for future missions. NASA's Evolutionary Xenon Thruster (NEXT) Project has developed a 7-kilowatt ion thruster that can provide the capabilities needed in the future.

An ion thruster produces small levels of thrust relative to chemical thrusters, but does so at higher specific impulse (or higher exhaust velocities), which means that an ion thruster has a fuel efficiency of 10-12 times greater than a chemical thruster. The higher the rocket's specific impulse (fuel efficiency), the farther the spacecraft can go with a given amount of fuel. Given that an ion thruster produces small levels of thrust relative to chemical thrusters, it needs to operate in excess of 10,000 hours to slowly accelerate the spacecraft to speeds necessary to reach the asteroid belt or beyond.

The NEXT ion thruster has been operated for over 43,000 hours, which for rocket scientists means that the thruster has processed over 770 kilograms of xenon propellant and can provide 30 million-newton-seconds of total impulse to the spacecraft. This demonstrated performance permits future science spacecraft to travel to varied destinations, such as extended tours of multi-asteroids, comets, and outer planets and their moons.

Ship Wreck near Italy Shore

Caption This! :: ... Is this the Singularity?
Retrieved from various Sources by Pat Darnell  |  Jan 15, 2012  |  Bryan TX

Survivors UPDATE: “I just said, ‘Kick Andy! Kick! Swim! We’ve got our children to look forward to!’ And I just pushed and pushed, and eventually I just saw the boat coming down and said 'We’ve got to clear this or we’re going to drown,' ” he recalled.
They eventually made it to solid ground and climbed on some rocks.
“I didn’t have the strength anymore. I was tired from the swimming. The swim to the shore was about 80 to 100 metres, I would estimate it at,” he said. “I know looking back now with the ship lying there it looks like it was just a walk to this, but believe me it wasn’t.”
The couple finally reached the top of the rocks. They sat and turned to watch the ship.
“It just rested, and that’s where it stopped,” said Davis. (CBC News. Jan 15, 2012. LINK)

MooPig's Tech Coroner :: "Eastman Kodak's Demise"

We are now a Film-less Society
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Dec 3, 2011 | Bryan TX
[AP Picture LINK]

Do you still "dial" that phone? Well then, dial "911" for a defibrillator to resuscitate Eastman Kodak ... or not. Everything I learned as a youth was film. I moved up the ladder from "Kodak Instamatic 120's" to "Kodachrome" to pushing 1000 ASA "Ektachrome." It wasn't just a hobby with me.
" ... Eastman Kodak marketed the first flexible photographic roll film in 1885, but this original "film" was actually coated on paper. After exposure, as part of the processing, the image-bearing layer was stripped from the paper base and transferred to a glass support to facilitate printing from it. ... "
As a Printing Apprentice in my twenties, I handled a 42 inch format camera as big as a room. You should have seen the bellows on that giant. In addition I was a two color film stripper, and a printing plate maker. I have been there and back -- but now there is no going back. Film is gone forever.

The business end of a slick 35mm SLR Nikon is no more. Newer color films, like Kodacolor II, had as many as 12 emulsion layers, with upwards of 20 different chemicals in each layer, and only Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, Kan., still processes it.

You can pick up a box load of "old" cameras at the swap meet for a buck-'fiddy. Those cameras and lenses that I had lusted a lifetime for, now just crab trap weights. I bought a bunch anyway, just like I still buy some books.

Due to film photography's long history of widespread use, there are now around one trillion pictures on photographic film or photographic paper in the world, enough to cover an area of around ten thousand square kilometers, 4000 square miles, about half the size of Wales.
" ... One of the reasons digital camera prints, or computer format images, can take precedence over film in the photography market is that individual users are less likely to be excessively quality-conscious -- and most photographers are amateurs who use cameras for recreation and recording of information rather than for serious photography. (LINK)... "

At the start of the 21st century, Americans were buying close to a billion rolls of film annually. This year, the total could be a mere 20 million rolls. This is just another way of saying "a 98% loss of sales in 11 years."

Photographic films, are not processed any longer in Wal-Mart, Walgreens (still a few), nor in the usual camera service places. Just try to get your film developed ... it is over.

Kodak's long fade to black - latimes.com:
" ... Once ranked among the bluest of blue chips, Kodak shares sell today at close to $1. Kodak's chairman has been denying that the company is contemplating a bankruptcy filing ... "
'via Blog this'
"... [Kodak's]... executives couldn't foresee a future in which film had no role in image capture at all, nor come to grips with the lower profit margins or faster competitive pace of high-tech industries. At one meeting with Microsoft's Bill Gates to discuss integrating Kodak's photo CDs with Windows, Kodak Chairman Kay Whitmore fell asleep. ..."

Caption This ! :: "Face" -- PART One

Face
by Pat Darnell

Why is it so hard to forget the Face of one's enemy? Eh? Is it correction of our spirit as we ponder menaces that pervade our existence? Could be. Does one feel stalked and tracked down in every turn of the screw; surely peace will endure, but remember, our patch of face is enemy to others we will never know.

Otherwise, how can we explain our enemies. Do we say: "Don't shoot till you see the yellow of their eyes?"

One's face is his life: the face of newborn, face of his identity, face of his game, then the face of his senility, and in the end it is his face of death.

In a universe far far away that parallels one's own home, one's enemy, it turns out, was no enemy at all.

We at MooPig like to think that the FACE is a miracle. It is a map of one's sensors, and a target of all that is human. Therefore, we meditate on vastness of ruminative FACE.

Another LOOK at MooPig Graphiques and ReWildings :: "Give us a Caption... eh?"

Thanks for all the submitted CAPTIONS !!

Blurred groin, on the scanner, is so different than a sharp groin... Dave Barry had a blurred groin.

Another man was thrown out of San Diego Airport. They take you in this little room, and put on blue gloves. The agent tells you how he is going to "grope" you.

"I will use my front hand on some areas and my backhand on other places."

Might someone want to be groped, and put some metal foil in one's underwear? It isn't so far fetched.

UPDATE -- Thursday's "Give Us a Caption" Contest :: Chilean Miners

WINNER!! RCapotosto says:
Is it too obvious? God sends us metaphors that Andrea Bocelli could see :
The miners are trapped in a hostile place from which they are powerless to escape. They are going to die. They are spearated from all source of life, except a few little air and food passages that remind them that there IS something better and more alive than where they are.
They need to be rescued.
Then, people that could have easily plugged the holes and said, "too bad" didn't. They went to incredible expense and effort, out of compassion and nothing else, to find a way to save these people, ......one by one.
One by one. Individually they were rescued. That long ride up must have given each one an incredibly special time to reflect on the difference between dependency and freedom, or maybe the way the two are interelated.
Superstars! Indeed, they should feel like superstars - that someone cared enough about them means they are valuable. Was it their own efforts or gifts or good looks that got them out? They could never pretend that it was.

Will they remember?

Unfortunately, they have just arisen to another, bigger mine hole. And their condition is just as desperate, in an eternal sense.
Wait............ do you hear a drilling sound?........................

Chilean Miners due to extrude soon ... They have been a distance twice the height of the Empire State Building down in the crust since before August fifth ... The stranded miners will each be wearing $400 pairs of sunglasses sent specially to them to ease the shock of bright lights experienced on the surface. The Chilean Miners have been receiving coaching to help them when they emerge into instant FAME ... do you feel lucky?
Well, if you do then Give Us a Caption for this Moment in the near future, I have scribbled on my son's notebook paper, so you ought to caption it? Go ahead -- make my day!
