13 Most Prevalent Dog Illnesses ::  How to Prevent Them - PawNation: "Over 150 years ago, the first case of E.P.I., exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, was discovered in dogs. While it isn't extremely common, the occurrence of this illness has increased in recent years. According to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A/M University, nearly 8,000 dogs in the United States are diagnosed with E.P.I. and this number is expected to rise."

UPDATE:

Francesca Cangialosi
What is it about small dogs that get to us? One its like have an eternal puppy. I watch my almost three year old Rocky run around the house like a little mad man. He challenges Logan to not be an old fuddy duddy and brings out the puppy in the even older Charly. Watching Charly and Rocky play some times is like watching two puppies run around the yard, frollicking for the pure joy of frollicking. Rocky gets Logan to play with a toy..sometimes throwing it back and forth while chasing each other down the hall. I love watching these three furballs interact with one another. Its like watching siblings play...and yes, they do even argue like siblings especially when one wants to sleep and the other wants to play or if Logan just wants to walk down the hall to go outside and Rocky thinks he needs to challenge him every step of the way.
Yes I love my furball babies. When they went to get groomed, it was just Charly and I in the house. The house was so unusually quiet and I think we both felt a little lost without those two furbabies. Interesting how my little pack and I depend on each other and interact with one another. We are a family. (Francesca Cangialosi. facebook. Jan 3, 2013. near Albuquerque, NM)... "

Facebook on Wednesday temporarily disabled its instant messenger feature while it repaired an apparent security vulnerability that permitted users to spy on friends' chat conversations and view pending friend requests.

The flaw, first reported by TechCrunch, resided in the "Preview My Profile" control under the social networking site's privacy settings. The control lets users see what their profile looks [like] to others on Facebook.

However, due to a glitch, users could use the control to view live chats going on between their friends, as well as view pending friend requests for their friends. A video posted Wednesday to YouTube documents the exploit.

The problem was corrected shortly after Facebook became aware of it, a company spokesman said in a statement sent to SCMagazineUS.com .

"When we received reports of the problem, our engineers promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function," the spokesman said. "We also pushed out a fix to take care of the visible friend requests, which is now complete. Chat is now back up and running."

News of the bug comes as Facebook draws criticism on Capitol Hill from lawmakers who oppose recent policy changes by Facebook that automatically opts in users to share data with some third-party websites. Facebook defends the change as a way for users to better socialize with friends across the internet.

Some security and privacy experts disagree.

"In the past, Facebook has insisted that privacy is its 'highest priority,' but there is growing [concern] that the site has played fast and loose with the personal information of its 400 million users, encouraging them to share too much private data online and changing privacy settings to be more open," Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, said Wednesday in a blog post.

MooPig Site Review :: "Facebook -- Privacy Enemy Number One?" Part Two

HIGHEST FORMS OF PARODY:
"It's clear why folks would associate this kind of deceptive practice with Zuckerberg. Although Zuckerberg told users back in 2007 that privacy controls are "the vector around which Facebook operates," by January 2010 he had changed his tune, saying that he wouldn't include privacy controls if he were to restart Facebook from scratch. And just a few days ago, a New York Times reporter quoted a Facebook employee as saying Zuckerberg "doesn't believe in privacy". (Jones, Tim. 29.04.2010, HERE)"
Facebook's "Evil Interfaces"
APRIL 29TH, 2010 | Commentary by Tim Jones | Retrieved EXCERPT by Pat Darnell HERE
Social networking companies don't have it easy. Advertisers covet their users' data, and in a niche that often seems to lack a clear business model, selling (or otherwise leveraging) that data is a tremendously tempting opportunity. But most users simply don't want to share as much information with marketers or other "partners" as corporations would like them to. So it's no surprise that some companies try to have it both ways. (Jones, Tim. 29.04.2010, HERE)

Monday evening, after an exasperating few days trying to make sense of Facebook's bizzare new "opt-out" procedures, we asked folks on Twitter and Facebook a question:

The world needs a simple word or term that means "the act of creating deliberately confusing jargon and user-interfaces which trick your users into sharing more info about themselves than they really want to." Suggestions?
And the suggestions rolled in! Our favorites include "bait-and-click", "bait-and-phish", "dot-comfidence games", and "confuser-interface-design".

Although we didn't specifically mention Facebook in our question, by far the most popular suggestions were variations on this one from @heisenthought on Twitter:

How about "zuck"? As in: "That user-interface totally zuckered me into sharing 50 wedding photos. That kinda zucks"
Other suggestions included "Zuckermining", "Infozuckering", "Zuckerpunch" and plenty of other variations on the name of Facebook's Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Others suggested words like "Facebooking", "Facebaiting", and "Facebunk". [read entire article HERE...]

"As Conti describes it, a good interface is meant to help users achieve their goals as easily as possible. But an "evil" interface is meant to trick users into doing things they don't want to. Conti's examples include aggressive pop-up ads, malware that masquerades as anti-virus software, and pre-checked checkboxes for unwanted "special offers"." (ibid)

MooPig Movie POP Quiz :: "Who was FACE in Original A Team?"

"I thought these pictures of Dirk Benedict (the original Starbuck from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series), with Katee Sackhoff (the new Starbuck from the 2004 ‘reimagined’ Battlestar Galactica series) at Starbucks were compelling.

I snapped these from the BattleStar Galactica Finale Special that aired on Space TV on March 20, 2009. It looks like they was taken towards the beginning of the ‘reimagined’ series given how young Katee Sackhoff is in them. (Dietrich, Dale. 03.27.2010. HERE)"

Patrick Darnell There is a mind-boggling array of fertilizers on the shelves of garden centers; but they fall into just a few basic categories: Straight, compound, slow-release, liquid, and foliar. Foliar means liquid fertilizers that are also applied by spraying on the leaves. Epiphytes, plants with small root systems, or plants whose roots are feeble, are best served with foliar fertilizer.

Patrick Darnell On year a Tibetan Cherry tree became sickly with leaves turning yellow and falling off in late Spring. One application of Epsom salts at 7 ounces in 2 gallons of water as a foliar and root feed was enough to perk the tree up. It had been suffering from magnesium deficiency, probably due to heavy rain on light soil. (Biggs, Matthew. 2005. techniques and tips for gardeners)

UPDATE :: Dog Logic

GOOD MORNING PUPPY NATION!

He had as much fun in the water as any person I have known. You didn't have to throw a stick in the water to get him to go in. Of course, he would bring back a stick to you if you did throw one in. He would even have brought back a piano if you had thrown one in.

I am not a cat man, but a dog man, and all felines can tell this at a glance — a sharp, vindictive glance.

I myself have known some profoundly thoughtful dogs.

If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very, very few persons.

If you are a police dog, where's your badge?
Asked of his German shepherd

In his grief over the loss of a dog, a little boy stands for the first time on tiptoe, peering into the rueful morrow of manhood. After this most inconsolable of sorrows there is nothing life can do to him that he will not be able somehow to bear.

It did not take Man long — probably not more than a hundred centuries — to discover that all the animals except the dog were impossible around the house. One has but to spend a few days with an aardvark or llama, command a water buffalo to sit up and beg or try to housebreak a moose, to perceive how wisely Man set about his process of elimination and selection.

Man is troubled by what might be called the Dog Wish, a strange and involved compulsion to be as happy and carefree as a dog.

Muggs was always sorry, Mother said, when he bit someone, but we could never understand how she figured this out. He didn't act sorry.

The dog has got more fun out of Man than Man has got out of the dog, for the clearly demonstrable reason that Man is the more laughable of the two animals.

The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his.
James Thurber
