MooPig Up-cycling and Re-purposing Department :: "Glass Walls

Build Walls
Mashed Article by Pat Darnell |  Nov 6, 2015  |  Bryan TX

Donald Trump says "Just build a wall between Mexico and the USA." Old drunken fart Dubya Bush actually built a wall, that today has a myriad of sophisticated tunnels under it.

We at MooPig Up-cycling and Re-purposing Department say: "Build walls using recycled bottles, Bitches."

HEINEKEN WOBO: A Beer Bottle That Doubles as a Brick | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building: "Upcycling is a 21st century term, coined by Cradle to Cradle authors William McDonough and Michael Braungart, but the idea of turning waste into useful products came to life brilliantly in 1963 with the Heineken WOBO (world bottle). Envisioned by beer brewer Alfred Heineken and designed by Dutch architect John Habraken, the “brick that holds beer” was ahead of its ecodesign time, letting beer lovers and builders alike drink and design all in one sitting."

Rubles from heaven: Russians scoop up meteorite chunks for sale - latimes.com:   ... "They're calling it the meteorite rush.

Prices asked for purported pieces of the alien visitor range from $20 to $30,000.

Typical Ad:
“For sale: a piece of meteorite. Cures cancer, AIDS and prostate. Improves academic performance at school, “ reads one ad, which was posted under the name Yevgeny and is perhaps overreaching a bit. He is asking $10,000 for his space rock, without specifying its size."

Russia's massive meteorite: By the numbers ... the big space rock that crashed into the Ural Mountains last week was the largest in a century, and worth more than its weight in gold ...

55 -- Diameter of the meteorite, in feet, according to NASA

10,000 -- Weight of the meteorite, in tons

500 -- Amount of energy, in kilotons, put out by the meteor as it neared Earth — 30 times the energy of the atomic bomb that struck Hiroshima

40,000 -- Estimated speed of Friday's meteor, in miles per hour, before crashing, according to Russian space agency Roscosmos

567 -- Typical cruising speed of a Boeing 747, in miles per hour

25 -- Diameter, in feet, of a hole in frozen Lake Chebarkul, believed to be where a large chunk crashed through the ice

53 -- "Small, stony, black objects," confirmed as meteorite fragments, that scientists have recovered so far from around Lake Chebarkul

$2,220 -- Price per gram of recovered fragments of the meteorite — 40 times the price of gold — according to Dmitry Kachkalin, a member of the Russian Society of Amateur Meteorite Lovers

5,000 -- Rough estimate of known meteors 100 feet in diameter or bigger that could hit Earth,

... according to NASA Sources: Bloomberg Businessweek, CNN, Guardian, Reuters, Space dot com, Wall Street Journal, Wired

" ... The best bet, Ford [Mark Ford, a longtime collector who is chairman of the British and Irish Meteorite Society] says, is to buy from a dealer who is a member of the International Meteorite Collectors Association, a self-policing group of dealers. Ordinarily, after a major meteorite fall, “the dealers are on the next plane,” he says. “But this being Russia, it’s a bit more difficult. They have to get visas, and there are some security issues because Chelyabinsk is a nuclear city.” (Carol Matlack on February 19, 2013. LINK) ... "

" ... Today everyone is paying close attention to the attempts to have videos documenting police brutality removed from You-Tube. There is a much greater threat looming. HR3261 Allows the U.S. Government to serve any internet provider with a court order to remove what they deem is copyrighted material or be shut down within five days. Under the guise of stopping piracy, any site can be shut down indefinitely. It is important to respect the rights of artists and make sure they are compensated for their creative endeavors. That said, shutting down a site with millions of pieces of content based upon on person choosing to violate copyright laws is more than heavy handed.
When any person, even law enforcement can upload any content to a site it is inevitable that the potential for abuse guarantees abuse. (credstone. THU OCT 27, 2011)... "

 COMMENT:
" ... This bill is bullshit from jump. (80+ / 0-)
Throughout our history, the government has given creators systems (Copyright Office, PTO) to register their claims to intellectual property. It is the responsibility of the creator to decide how to deal with people who abridge his or her claim. This is always done through the civil courts, almost always at the state level, with federal backup if needed.

Never has the federal government attempted direct, extra-legal enforcement of intellectual property claims, and for good reason: that's not its job.

I'm far from being a Tenther, but challenge to this bill, if enacted, falls squarely and sweetly under the Tenth Amendment, even more than the First.

This bill is pure crap, and I'll be the people introducing it know it, too.

Corporations are people, my friend Yeah, well, so's Soylent Green, so I don't find that very comforting... (by Crashing Vor on Thu Oct 27, 2011 at 09:40:55 AM PDT) ..."

MooPig's Economic Trends Compendium

They just want data
Retrieved by Pat Darnell for Ed Purposes | [SOURCE]

" ... An algorithm," [Felix Salmon] explains, "can analyze data much faster than the human mind ever could — and can therefore respond instantly to market conditions. ... "

" ... [A]lgorithms, -- the lines of code that govern an increasing amount of global trading activity — ... don’t read news the way humans do. They don’t need their information delivered in the form of a story or even in sentences. They just want data—the hard, actionable information that those words represent. ... "

Today on Fresh Air Interviews, we hear an explanation of what happened on May 6, 2010, when the Dow Jones "flash crashed."
" ... In 14 seconds, the futures contracts changed hands over 27,000 times. After an automatic stabilizer paused trading for five seconds on the futures exchange, the market steadied and then recovered. ... " (Salmon, Felix. Jan 13, 2011 HERE)
" ... But even after the SEC/CFTC report was issued in September, "no one really knows why that [crash] happened," says financial reporter Felix Salmon.

"What we do know is that there were some crazy trades which happened in those 5 minutes. We had stocks trading for a penny a share or $100 a share, and no human would do that." (ibid.; Salmon)... "

It turns out, " ... Last spring, Dow Jones [had] launched a new service called Lexicon At the most basic level, computers help prospective buyers and sellers of stocks find one another—without the bother of screaming middlemen or their commissions. ... "

" ... [S]ays Harold Bradley, former head of American Century Ventures, a division of a midsize Kansas City investment firm, “So I had to change the rules.” ... "

WHY?:
" ... Bradley was among the first traders to explore the power of algorithms in the late ’90s, creating approaches to investing that favored brains over access. It took him nearly three years to build his stock-scoring program. First he created a neural network, painstakingly training it to emulate his thinking—to recognize the combination of factors that his instincts and experience told him were indicative of a significant move in a stock’s price.
