Pedantic Walk through Development of Land and Renewable Energy

Land development is the key to the future of almost every walk of life. If it goes awry, or starts to cost too much, many institutions feel a dramatic decline. Banks cannot move land they acquire in debt resolutions, or foreclosures. Investment groups cannot get return on their dollars as soon as they planned. Growing families must put off long term investing if suddenly development of land and resources is too expensive.

It turns out the US Government surprisingly provides subsidies for all these kinds of developments, including money to develop new energy sources. But the US Government does not provide subsidies for Environmental Impact Reports.

Reason Foundation - Out of Control Policy Blog and How Federal Regulations Get in the Way of Renewable Energy Development: "A paper recently released by the Mercatus Center, examines the extent in which federal regulations adversely impacted this relatively small scale renewable energy project in Utah. "Although it is tempting to point to one specific regulation as the root cause of today's impediments to small hydro-power development, a federal nexus of regulation is the real problem," the Mercatus Center paper, written by Utah-based authors, states. Even after receiving the stimulus grant (which covered half of the projected $1.4 million dollars needed for the project) the projected benefits from the project will be insufficient to meet its costs.  "

Renewable energy may be an idea that is dead on arrival. That is, federal regulations make it near impossible to start up any renewable energy processes. "...Leave it to the federal government to provide billions of dollars in subsidies promoting renewable energy projects, while also requiring municipalities implementing those projects to navigate a federal regulatory web so onerous that it discourages any future renewable energy project undertakings. I remember the 1970's through the 80's, there suddenly appeared "Environmental Impact Reports" requirements for especially land development. Land developing became too expensive for the average developer. The cost of producing an "Environmental Impact Report" added at least an extra half-million dollars to the development costs.

Developers could only manage to break even on their projects with the new regulation. Often the Reports would disclose some sort of environmental obstacle that the developer would have to deal with. Only government jobs could get the backing in these cases. Around Houston land developing was hindered, and many development groups had to "re-group."

In developments today, for instance, " ... Different environmental groups, citizens, and politicians have raised concerns about the potential negative impacts of the Keystone XL project ... " Groups like the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, and Lincoln, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman will issue statements that if regarded add cost to the construction of the XL Tar Sands Pipeline.

CONCLUSION
Government has provided Americans with a two headed ax. It turns out that government subsidies are available for alternative energy start ups, but also there are too many governmental regulations on development of any of those alternatives. Who will straighten this all out?

For the past five years, our Legislature has not done anything to help the boondoggle of dumping subsidy money, then spending that money on its own regulations. The present government would rather dally around with creationism, abortion, and tall tales.

In the comments you might enlighten us to some group who is developing energies and land all the right way in the USA, but to our knowledge this growing impediment to developments is a pedantic walk through an abysmal activity that is wasteful and pointless that only gives the appearance of having value.

Regulatory Issues - Canada: "Canada eases foreign ownership restrictions for uranium mines Canada has agreed to waive for European companies a longstanding requirement that buyers take on a Canadian partner in uranium mines, a move that may spur greater investment in developing the country's rich uranium reserves.

The move, part of the Canada-European Union free trade agreement announced on Friday (Oct. 18), comes after intense lobbying from France-based AREVA SA and Anglo-Australian Rio Tinto Plc for Canada to scrap the Cold War era policy.

Canada, the world's second biggest producer of uranium behind Kazakhstan, currently restricts foreign companies from owning more than 49 percent of any uranium mine.

There are no ownership restrictions on foreign participation in exploration. Lifting the requirement for European companies would appear to benefit Areva, in which the French government owns a controlling stake. Areva owns the Kiggavik project in the northern Canadian territory of Nunavut. (Reuters Oct. 18, 2013)"

This article is tough to decipher, but it refers to "Cold War" years policies. Mining Uranium and other heavy metals are opening up markets around the  world, while previously "foreign ownership" was not allowed in, for instance, Canadian uranium mining companies.

We did not know that Canada is second largest in producing uranium.

Originally nuclear power plants were built to manufacture clean energy, that is, a power plant that doesn't let loose CO2 into our atmosphere. That was over sixty years ago. On November 23, 2009, MooPig Uranium Department reported on conditions leading to saturation of CO2 in our air by the end of this century:

'The U.N. expert group projects that such a path would raise global temperatures between 4.3 and 11.5 degrees Fahrenheit by century's end." (AP, Nov 23, 2009. LINK)

CONCLUSION
No matter how much reporting, or how many UN statements are made, the race to fill earth's atmosphere with CO2 goes on full tilt.

Nuclear energy was touted to be the clean energy source and mining of Uranium continues, all-be-it an industry that got its chops started in the Cold War Era. Foreign ownership of Canadian uranium mines sets a new precedent.

As a race of beings, humans on earth continue to live off of the geological distant past that produced a large non-renewable source of fossil fuels found in the ground in North America and around the world.

While many of us contemplate our Kindle FIRE, and meditate on what our next phone upgrade will be, Africa lurks on a different horizon. Diamonds and gold are not the only wealth makers out of Africa. And China is not the only "developing" economy out there. Here in an article by David Rowan for wired.co.uk is one of those "Ideas" whose "time is nigh."

Nothing compares to an idea whose time is come. Besides how else do we communicate today on issues of commerce, health, location, and mobile tagging? What is your unit capable of? How much do you think it is worth?

If you live in Japan, or USA, you will easily notice the choices consumers are making as Africa swells in Internet use.

HR3261 Allows the U.S. Government to serve any internet provider with a court order to remove what they deem is copyrighted material or be shut down within five days. Under the guise of stopping piracy, any site can be shut down indefinitely. It is important to respect the rights of artists and make sure they are compensated for their creative endeavors. That said, shutting down a site with millions of pieces of content based upon on person choosing to violate copyright laws is more than heavy handed.

Throughout our history, the government has given creators systems (Copyright Office, PTO) to register their claims to intellectual property. It is the responsibility of the creator to decide how to deal with people who abridge his or her claim. This is always done through the civil courts, almost always at the state level, with federal backup if needed.

Never has the federal government attempted direct, extra-legal enforcement of intellectual property claims, and for good reason: that's not its job.

I'm far from being a Tenther, but challenge to this bill, if enacted, falls squarely and sweetly under the Tenth Amendment, even more than the First.

This bill is pure crap, and I'll be the people introducing it know it, too.

Strategy for Business Health

I suggest that backyard inventing and garage-based tinkering are the healthiest state of mind.

Entrepreneurs are everywhere in the USA, tinkering. Garage businesses are the backbone of our free enterprise. Over half of business is Home-based in US. What is the first thing a newcomer to the USA does? He and she starts a job, then does a side job for cash, builds a cash flow, then buys a building.

There are plenty of buildings to buy, and with garages for tinkering with business ideas; viola'.

The government has little to offer the beginner. It is after all not a business. Government is a guidance counselor, and I shudder to think more than a few people think it is a panacea for business. Government is a lawyer killing a real estate deal. It is a collector of nickles and dimes.

Besides, there is a lot of slack in government, and slack is what makes us all unhealthy. Mark my words, "Soon they will be mowing lawns and building gizmo's in garages all over Baghdad, just you wait and see." For what was wasted in the Enron bankruptcy, $67 billion, we could have rebuilt Baghdad from the water table up! Lord knows they need water there. Ask Haliburton.

That is what we Americans take to the world; the healthy state-of-mind of Entrepreneur.
