MooPig Project Management Department :: "Looking Things Up"

Looking up things has become a major activity for MooPig Editors, especially since we all got smart phones. Yes, we spend hours to find out what the hell happened in our past. Thanks to "the new transparency" of the Internet, we find many useful factoids. You don't need to hear that, you already know it.

He read this word Orenda. Forty years later he looks it up ...

10 Untranslatable Words (And When You'll Want to Use Them): "5. Orenda (Huron) The Meaning: Orenda is the invocation of the power of human will to change the world around us. It is set up to be the opposing force to fate or destiny. If powerful forces beyond your control are trying to force you one way, orenda is a kind of voiced summoning of personal strength to change fate. The Work: For me, the most interesting part of the Matrix Trilogy was the part that can be described by orenda. I wasn't too impressed by the first movie's reveal of Neo as the chosen one, or the idea of all of reality being fake. What I liked was when we got to the second movie, and all that 'chosen one' stuff fell victim to the power of predictability and statistics. Neo wasn't the chosen one. He was a familiar protocol, and he and his fellow humans would obey the dictates of that protocol. Changing that, and the moment when he went from embracing his 'destiny' to fighting it, was the point of the series, I thought."

CONCLUSION
We will always have to look things up to satisfy our brains' collective curiosity...

MooPig Wisdom Department :: Ten Things you need to Know this Morning!

Everyone Else tries to Make you Look, We're No Different!
by Pat Darnell  |  Nov 7, 2013  |  Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]  “Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.” ― Isaac Asimov, Foundation

We at MooPig FWD Email Department get a lot of unsolicited advice. Many "groups," like Business Insider, Motley Fool, and, LinkedIn, send us "Ten Things You Need to Know Right Now." One must admit it is a title that titillates, eh? But clues are all over the place, like this quote:
"Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world." [Henry Kissinger]
It turns out, most of the stuff in our lives, amounts to a lot of barking at the moon. Arguments online are at best chippy. So, what could MooPig Wisdom Department announce that might have any bearing on lives? Well, others try to get you to look at their stuff ... so here goes ... believe me, it's tempting to sugar coat this, and I feel like I'm sticking my neck out:

#10 --  At some point, you have to just ignore idiots. It is, after all, really a war to control minds, a battle for our brains.

#9 -- Hyper elites ... you know the Illuminati, and those freaks who inherited all the money and banks, ... people claiming to possess special enlightenment or knowledge of something ... they do not want to be engaged; not with you, not with me, and they certainly don't want to be engaged to each other, especially not with their own children. There once was a time when the Super-Rich needed a Middle Class to be successful -- Not Any More. Super-rich of the 21st century no longer think that you and I are needed for their continued success.

#8 -- Transhumanism is alive and well. We will be assimilated. It is not a bad dream you are having, we are on the road to a soft sunrise.

#7 -- That engine of business progress — it turns out that most of the cylinders are either misfiring or seizing up altogether. In its 2013 State of the American Workplace report, Gallup reported that 7 out of 10 employees are either “not engaged” or “actively disengaged.”

#6 -- What a person "believes" usually sabotages "logic and reason". That is why perceived "alignment, positivity, and feeling like one is achieving progress" actually limits so many persons out here from learning what facts are saying. [look at this LINK]

#5 -- Most of us are "not" put in a position to succeed. We are like Congress persons in the US, only mouthpieces for development and delivery of secretive, unknown to public, policies.

#4 -- If you don't know by now, you need to know that the Federal Reserve Bank, and all the European Central banks, are privately owned. What that means is that everything you, your children, your parents do is controlled by money that is controlled by the gray matter of one brain somewhere in the world.

#3 -- The media, including Internet, enjoys "making this bullshit up because there are absolutely no consequences for being wrong." [The Daily Show]

#2 -- Earth has experienced Extinction Level Events throughout its entire history. Our fossil record proves it. And ELE's will always be with us; they will happen again.

#1 -- Wisdom comes with a price. Wisdom is not genetic, nor given to the gifted or rich; it must be prayed for and earned.

CONCLUSION
"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system that has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.” [Speech by JFK]

MooPig Government Shutdown :: "Aftermath"

Some of our Favorite MEME's from the previous two Weeks
Gathered by Pat Darnell \ Oct 18, 2013 | Bryan TX

Brenda Drew says: " ... I've known other men to have pissy fits, but this spoiled rotten selfish greedy, racist, misogynist, homophobic, backwards thinking, evil, corrupt Fascist Domestic Terrorist band of TRAITORS TAKES THE CAKE! ***Note: I did NOT use the word, "Republican", that's a huge misnomer and they DO NOT deserve to be called, "Republicans"...they're FASCIST TRAITORS to our once upon a time great Democracy/Republic and they bastardize the Boston Tea Party and they are antithetical to our very basic liberal Democratic ideals and principles!!! (LINK) ... "

RESULT
This broad ax hucksterism by the Tea Party minority in the House of Congress turns out to be a lot of barking at the moon. And, this tirade cost the American GDP around $24 million. The douche bags in government, all of them, are never held "accountable" for their actions. This leads to grand-standing, lots and lots of litigation, and war.

Which Sport Requires the Most Athleticism? - Throwing It Out There

[Picture LINK]

Which Sport Requires the Most Athleticism? - Throwing It Out There:
"It's overlap season! Baseball, the NFL, college football, the NHL, NASCAR and MLS all are all in their playoffs or regular seasons, NBA camps have started and Midnight Madness is Friday. With that in mind, our question: Which sport requires the most athleticism?"(Sports Editor | October 8, 2007. LINK)
  1. NBA
  2. NFL
  3. NHL
  4. MLS
  5. NCAA Football
  6. NCAA B-ball
  7. Baseball
  8. NASCAR isn't a sport. (Posted by: SnorlaxMcSoggybottom | October 9, 2007)
At MooPig International we think it is a term in sportscasting that has evolved in a type of conjugation: from athlete, to athletic, to athleticism ... and we think that the term "athleticism" will be liberally used by sportscasters tomorrow in the Super Bowl XLVI. It has been blurbed out in almost every football game we watched this 2011-12 season.  How many times will it be used? We might make a wager on that.
[astorian says on 04-03-2006]: " ... Just in case people disagree with me, and think "athletic" is a fine word, I'll provide some comparable adjectives for use in other walks of life:

"The Beatles were a very musical band." - Greil Marcus

"Steve Spielberg is the most cinematic director in Hollywood." - Roger Ebert

"The U.S. Marine Corps will give Saddam trouble- they're a highly military unit." - Tom Clancy (LINK) ... "
What does Twitter Have to Say?
If you watched sports telecasts and had come from another culture (but comprehended English), you would think the word "athleticism" means "Black Guy".

In the last ten years, I've heard one announcer use the term "athleticism" in describing a White Guy. That was this year (Of course, it was in an SEC game.)

Before that? Well, can you say "John Havlicek?" (UMRBlog. Nov 25, 2009. LINK)

Someone actually published a story several years back where they noted that sportscasters more frequently describe black athletes in terms of their physique and athleticism (i.e. Ty Lawson is so fast, Gerald Henderson is so strong) but describe white athletes in terms of their "smarts" and work ethic (Tyler Hansbrough's will exceeds his skill) (November 27, 2009, Anonymous said.)

What Does the Urban Dictionary say?

1. athleticism 40 up, 9 down
The art of neglecting fat kids.
Dodgeball, Tag, and Movement are all prime examples of athleticism. (Urban Dic. HERE)

--AND--

1. Athletischism 3 up, 1 down
Athletischism - When an athlete's off-the-field actions and habits conflict with rather than re-enforce natural skills and talents.
The slugger had a lot of innate athletic ability early in his career, but unfortunately, a fondness for strip clubs and whiskey led to an athletischism in his athleticism.

What do the Blogs Say?
The year [2011] began with ESPN — no stranger to sexist misbehavior — firing announcer Ron Franklin after he told Fiesta Bowl sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards, "Why don't you leave this to the boys, sweet baby?" and responded to her objections with an expletive. In the latest example of male boorishness ... (Cohen, Andrew. Jan 27, 2011. LINK)

Not like we did a decade ago, when the Women’s World Cup won by the American team on American soil signaled a newfound respect for women’s athleticism. Remember those heady days, of athletes posing naked with soccer balls, of Brandi Chastain’s sports bra, of the self-described Booters with Hooters? Remember how Kristine Lilly, who saved the Americans in the final against China with a header off the line in extra time, was completely ignored and forgotten by the media and advertisers, while the more quote-unquote “marketable” Mia Hamm said or did nothing of consequence during the tournament, but made millions in endorsements? (LINK)

[Picture LINK] [AP PHOTO]

Every league that uses sex to sell, marketing its athletes with pinup calendars; every athlete who poses naked as some sort of nod to “athleticism”; every “marketable” sportscaster who feeds a marketing machine that objectifies women helps undercut the effort to portray female athletes as athletes first. (LINK)

Last Word?
What does "athletic" mean? Does it mean they're very fast? Very agile? Have great endurance? What?

It could mean "Not brainy," a team that doesn't play particularly smart ball, but wins through purely physical skills.

I do know this about soccer, though. The skills that its players learn over the years translate well to other sports. There's a reason why the NBA has more than its share of Eastern European players; it's because they play soccer as youngsters and develop a high level of foot-eye coordination, an underrated athletic virtue that many American players simply don't have. (Bruce Buratti | The Express-Times. August 12, 2011. LINK)

Several qualities could compensate for a lack of athletic abililty in athletic competition: braininess, depth, experience, competitive spirit, coaching...a team that lacked all of these, and still won, might be a team whose athleticism is dominant. (LINK)

And any sportscaster serious about wanting to celebrate women’s athleticism would recognize what Reebok was attempting to buy, and refuse to sell it. (LINK)

MooPig, because of its close connections to boorish maleness, thinks that "athleticism" means the "singularity" that, after all, means "MoJo."

Ain't No More Cane

PHOTO's: Will the Real Blonde on Blonde image sign in please -- and hum a few bars of "Ain't no More Cane"?

Response to Pribek's Relentless attempts to Confuse Me, "Its all been ground down to molasses"
Retrieved by Pat Darnell [HERE]

Sometimes it pays dividends to go to sites that have been tenderly set up to preserve and protect valuable works. So in response to the full court press by Pribek [HERE] and many other places, here is the lucidity his question requires: Trying to stump me in my passion for Texas Hill country, Pribek wrote, "...any cane on the Brazos?" Link | May 30th, 2009 at 10:13 am

Therefore I answer: Cane is gone along the Brazos. It is a muddy fast moving, geological youngster of a river. There is no beaches or ox bows, nor lazy Huck Finn Islands found along the Brazos course. However, I will have to get back to you on the situation of how much cane can be found today, if 5% or 50% of its original marsh grasses...

The other connection, I think Mr Pribek is also trying to fool me with Bob Dylan and his Basement Tapes. I had the double album Blonde on Blonde, until someone absconded it. I probably should have drilled pin holes in the two records to signify them as mine. If you have my B on B, and you are reading this, please contact me and tell me how it has been going.

It turns out, I never really liked the album, since it's mixing is [low quality] questionable -- "...Blonde on Blonde has been issued in no fewer than eleven different forms, with marked differences in mixes and track lengths. No specific version has been established as canonical [wkpd]..."

I must have had one of the bad ones... eh?

One more little negative thing about Dylan; his singing voice puts a desire to avoid and reject his cuts. It is a clash of temperaments, I never have fully appreciated his nasal, deep-South, country attempt. That is because I grew up down here where the real thing can be heard and hated. I assume, and correct me if not possible, that Dylan is from a Northern rural Minnesota upbringing. His adaptation of the deep South Delta Blues Rock voice is an agitation as a shade fake in my ear. Call me a purist, but down home is down home... no?

To understand some of this would require one to work here with the scorching sun on your back, and impossible clay mud sticking to your boots. One has to stay hydrated like you cannot believe, and that is the tonal basis you find usually from New Orleans, to Black Baptist Churches of Houston near briny back waters and marshes along the Intracoastal Waterway located from the Rigolets, Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet Canal to Industrial Canals in Texas .... a different breed lives down here.

Dylan is okay for trying, I suppose, but he has never been the real thing for my listening pleasure.

"This is actually a prison work song rather than a normal work song, if you feel like splitting hairs about it. It functions the same way as any work song, but the vocabulary is that of the Texas prisons and it is about prison life. There are many versions of it, the arrangement that the Band uses should be noted to the "king of the twelve string guitar" Huddie 'Leadbelly' Leadbetter. Bruce Jackson's book 'Wake Up Dead Man' has a lot of information about this song as well as other prison songs."

Oh, oh, oh, oh...

Its all been ground down to molasses

Oh, oh- oh, oh- oh...

You shoulda been on the river in 1910
They were driving the women just like they drove the men.

Go down Old Hannah,(2) don'cha rise no more
Don't you rise up til Judgment Day's for sure

Ain't no more cane on the Brazos
Its all been ground down to molasses

Captain(3), don't you do me like you done poor old Shine
Well ya drove that bully(4) til he went stone blind

Wake up on a lifetime(5), hold up your own head
Well you may get a pardon and then you might drop dead

Ain't no more cane on the Brazos
Its all been ground down to molasses.

[ footnotes by Source:]
1. For all those without a grasp of American geography, the Brazos is a river in Texas which features in many prison songs because it runs past virtually all of the old prisons in Texas.
2. Old Hannah is the name given to sun.
3. Captain is one of the ranks in the hierarchy of prison guards, the man in charge of half the workers in a field. Also used outside the prisons to mean the White boss. In some of the old slave songs the singers call Jesus their captain.
4. Bully: an inmate working in the line. The word can also be used as a verb, in which case it means working hard.
5. Lifetime sentence that is.
