WAHOO Homes Developments 1965 to 1976
Case Study in Progress by Pat Darnell along with the Two Sisters RE`al Est`Ate Sundries

I wish I could say that there has been progress over my lifetime. I wish the buildings we built back when there were master craftsmen walking the streets, in pre-one million population days Houston, had not somehow became land-locked.

Soap Box: It is a felling of wistful nostalgia that notices a soul can no longer see Lindens or Dutch Elms sewn in background of new yearbooks pictures, of our old school grounds. (Sayings lifted from Deadwood, fully plagiarized)

My Dad and our projects, those homes and apartments, are part of a totally differential [nearly unfathomable] demographic, and next to newer buildings. Some of the units are gone to seed. Later built edifices surrounding our beauties, are built on restricted hundred year flood plains.

However, as I think of  after-1960's decades of framing out homes and apartments, with smashed and broken fingernails, using a 32 ounce framing hammer, Lufkin retractable tape ... and a four foot straight edge bubble level ... it is one time I actually am serious, and shed one large salty cheek burning tear, pitying my self and my righteous mindset.

In 1968, we build a house over the next 90 to 120 days. I know you know the kind of bedroom community house -- a two story on a slab, federal barn seductive to look like a conversion ... oooh yeah ...  including some custom elements and plenty of curb face -- we spend a ratio of about one third cost for foundation, one third for doors, windows, and 'glazing.' The last third of construction money goes to subcontractors in the trades. 'Subs' who provide installations according to shop drawings, after code-checked necessities approved at the state of the art of the time.... have to be scheduled around other jobs they are doing.

Drawing on Short Money Market
Particulars of years '65 to '75 -ish, makes for a preamble to what was to be. It seems to me ... in a personally constructed opinion ... that a revolution began in our United States of America banking system in that twenty years from 1960 to 1980.

Money became less fluid for homebuilding die to restricted money supply overlapped starts on newfangled "master planned communities." P-shaw... I said   back then, and blah-ba-blah-bah humbug to a defunct paper money mill, I still say today. Savings and Loans, and Main Banks in towns all over failed to keep up with 'know it all Bank owners.

What built America is no longer available to builders. It seems one needs a minimum US$250,000,000 in collected blood money just to borrow US$75,000 to build a house. That's a paper money system fer' ya'. YIKES, again!!
Soap Box: Give me back the old grind-house, gold, and silver banking system standards mills. Return USA's gold and silver from Swiss controlled money hostels. Don't take away our rights to bear arms; and we will look after it. (Sayings lifted from Deadwood, fully plagiarized)
Eh'rr ... back to our stroppy home building, the old fashion way:
We list it. Realtor Annie Schatte comes back with a contract for 20% under our asking price. We wait.

90-120 days becomes 180 days -- and home unsold, stays listed even though  many contracts offered -- but each is too low for our jewel of denial.

At 240 days, eventually the bank calls us and we must find a buyer. Most the time, we go back to the previous offers... YIKES!!

We end up making only 3% profit for all that effort, a margin down from 28% to 33% wishfully thinking when we started stick framing this modern WAHOO home, house, home sweet home. that is a house that we built on speculation someone would buy it and close no longer than 45 days after construction comple'.

MooPig Reconstruction Review :: "Haiti after Three Years, Continued"

The Bombast and Grandiloquence Continues

Haitian homeless feel abandoned years after quake | News24:  ""We have been abandoned by the authorities. January 12 will be the anniversary of three years of suffering, misery and contempt ..."

'via Blog this'

January 12, 2013 will mark three years of misery, tragedy, and homelessness for 358,000 people in rough tent cities and camps around Port au Prince. During those three years refugee Haitians have been exposed to "crime wave, a cholera outbreak and - from time to time - hurricanes." Haitians wonder when there will be relief for them.
" ... The 2010 disaster triggered a global outpouring of sympathetic rhetoric and pledges of aid for the already impoverished Caribbean nation, but residents and aid agencies complain that rebuilding and re-development has been too slow. (SAPA. 2013-01-11 12:30. HERE) ... "
"We are without support," complained Wisly Decimus, a former teacher who has given up trying to run classes in a tent in the Marassa camp, just outside the capital, where 5,000 people cling to life beside a dangerous river.

"We have been abandoned by the authorities. January 12 will be the anniversary of three years of suffering, misery and contempt," he spat.

[Picture LINK]

Three years ago on January 13th, 2010 this story made the news:
" ... Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who previously traveled to Haiti to lend their star power to musician Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Foundation, said they were “devastated” by the tragic news.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti,” the duo said in a statement to The Agence France-Presse. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”(by NBC Universal, Jan 13, 2010. HERE) ... "

For now the refugees get a wreath and rhetoric:
" ... In the late morning, Clinton, the U.N. special envoy to Haiti, joined Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe in placing a wreath at a mass burial site north of the capital of Port-au-Prince. None of the three spoke at the event.

Clinton expressed hope about Haiti's future in brief comments to reporters after the ceremony.

"I think that you will see, particularly in the economic sphere, a lot more in the coming year, where Haiti is projected to have the highest growth rate in the Caribbean," he said. "Well, we hope to speed up some of the infrastructure. We have to repair the agriculture and ... build a lot more houses. We've got to get those people out of those tents."

Clinton, Martelly and Lamothe met privately in the afternoon. (TRENTON DANIEL
ASSOCIATED PRESS. Saturday, 01.12.13. HERE) ..."
Side note: " ... Foreign diplomats and Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova, earlier named by Martelly as one of Haiti's goodwill ambassadors, were also there. ... "

[Picture LINK]

And, last but not least, Sean Penn has worked at organizing relief for Haiti:
" ... Sean Penn has spent the last two years helping the relief effort in Haiti, and he's got little time for those who have long abandoned the country.

"It's not only celebrities who went for a day," Penn said at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday when asked about the lack of support for the Haitian relief effort. "It's the whole f--king world. It's all of you."

Following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti in January of 2010, Penn headed to the country and helped set up J/P Haitian Relief Organization, an aid group that rebuilt homes, schools and hospitals. For his efforts, Penn was awarded with the 2012 Peace Summit Award by the Nobel Peace Prize laureates, and also became an ambassador-at-large for the country.

"He was not a drive-by celebrity," former President Bill Clinton said recently. "He went into those camps and he was actually solving their water problems, solving their sanitation problems." (Christopher Rosen. Posted: 05/18/2012 1:08 pm Updated: 05/18/2012 1:44 pm. HERE) ... "

MooPig Reconstruction Review :: "Haiti after Three Years"

The NYT won't like me snagging this Slide Show... but ...
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 31, 2012  |  Bryan TX

I have seen both sides of human survival now. I have seen the Mitt Romney nouveau riche bunch, where nouveau riche describes rich people who acquired their wealth within their own generations ... the equivalent English term is the new rich; ... and I might have seen some of the worst poverty stricken masses.

Whenever I traveled I tried to at least see what is going on in the community I stayed. In Mexico I stayed with my family in a pretty nice hotel, but from the window I could see naked children running and playing soccer in the woods behind the building. If I opened the window they would run up and ask for money.

In Osaka, Japan, I saw no poverty. Associates there took me to the "bad parts" of town, and it looked like "One Mag Mile" of Chicago. In Chicago, I would walk on one side of a street, like Lake Shore Drive, and it was swank high-rise apartment/condo -- while just across the street was high urban density bric-a-brac ...

Here in Haiti, after so much western countries pledging billions to reconstruct post earthquake conditions, there are many projects not even started after three years.

Here in Bryan Texas, the Lutherans threw up a solid brick, buttressed hexagonal, 'cathedral' church in just a few months. Now it sits on a busy road, with its moving message sign flickering about its services. I am a skeptic, because a good builder a minister does not make. Maybe the wrong people are in charge over there in Haiti?

This, the Haiti earthquake aftermath, is a carbuncle on the face of humanity, that such boastful pledging goes without follow up. Eh? We don't like bombast, for an other-wise great cause, here at MooPig Enterprises. We scorn it.
" ... A boy rested on the edge of a construction site in Cabaret, outside Port-au-Prince. The American government had promised to complete 156 houses there, but earlier this month only about a dozen had been completed, and they lacked doors and windows. (ibid. NYT) ... "

Despite Billions in Aid, Reconstruction in Haiti Stalls - Slide Show - NYTimes.com:
Nearly three years after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, uncleared rubble and ruined buildings remain in downtown Port-au-Prince. Vegetable vendors worked amid the debris.

A vegetable vendor sold her goods on top of piles of earthquake rubble in downtown Port-au-Prince.

Agricultural crops like corn and millet are being grown and harvested in the vacant lots left behind after destroyed buildings were cleared away in the capital.

A woman used piles of earthquake rubble as a platform to sell toys in a market.

A man offered a knife-sharpening service amid the ruins and garbage of destroyed buildings in Port-au-Prince.

This thick tangle of iron rebar is all that remains of the shattered National Palace that was finally demolished earlier this year.

A boy rested on the edge of a construction site in Cabaret, outside Port-au-Prince. The American government had promised to complete 156 houses there, but earlier this month only about a dozen had been completed, and they lacked doors and windows.

Long rows of homes in the Zoranje development outside Port-au-Prince. It is the only big, new housing project completed and occupied, but the houses are still not connected to water.

Women bring buckets of water back to their homes in the new Zoranje development.

In the mountain town of Furcy, Haiti, some 480 students cram into two small, makeshift schools planted in the heart of a construction site for their new school. Construction was halted on this and 20 other school sites when inspectors discovered construction error and design flaws indicating they would not be safe during earthquakes.

While construction on their new school is stalled, students attended classes in a makeshift structure without electricity.

Sixth-graders in their temporary classroom, lighted only by the natural light that seeps through the gaps between partial walls and tin roofs.

A partly demolished section of the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince that is still being used as a holding area for patients being prepped for surgery. A $70 million reconstruction of the hospital by the American, French and Haitian governments, announced in September 2010, has yet to begin.

The emergency room of a newly finished teaching hospital in Mirebalais, outside the disaster zone. The hospital, built by the nonprofit Partners in Health, which plans to run it jointly with the Haitian government, has not yet secured its first-year operating budget.

Dieudonne Zidor, a local elected leader who represents the Campeche neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. “As you can see, conditions are calamitous,’’ she said.

Nadain Janvier, 29, repaired a leaking roof with tarp material on his makeshift home in the Campeche neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. Mr. Janvier has lived here since his home on this site was destroyed almost three years ago in the earthquake.

Charles Frantz, 46, and his family live in the Campeche neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, a jumble of tents, half-destroyed buildings and makeshift shacks. Campeche has been the focus of millions of dollars in reconstruction aid but has seen little progress.

MooPig DeBunker Department :: "Bunker Buddies" -- PART ONE

by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 8, 2012  |  Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]

When you build that deep underground doomsday survivor bunker and stock it with hoards of supplies... you do realize that you will be in that bunker with your bunker buddies, don't you?

Your doomsday bunker buddies will be your family members in most instances.

A quick search for homicides amongst family members, Google reveals about 9,770,000 results in (0.32 seconds). We take the top result, Bureau of Justice Statistics, BJS, and find this bit:
  • "After spousal killing, children killed by their parents are the most frequent type of family homicide.
  • Siblings are murder victims less often than other family members.
  • Fathers are more likely than mothers to be killed by their children.
  • Teenage sons are most often the perpetrator in parental killings.
  • Older teen and young adult males are most often the perpetrator in killings of brothers. Males who kill their sisters tend to be younger than males who kill their brothers.
  • Sisters rarely kill their siblings.
  • Note: The victims of the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks are not included in this analysis. (LINK)"
If you have ever watched the Survivor TV reality show, you learn that to "Outwit, outplay, outlast ..." the element of humanity you are avoiding "out there," you must be sure about your bunker buddies. If members in your group underground have brought unresolved "issues" with them into the bunker, these could become your biggest challenge to survive. Bunker buddies with issues will be disruptive to your vision of redemption. No less, if you are thinking about your wounded-ness today, you will realize that showing your wounds to others will show your human fragility. Eh?

Those players on Survivor TV bring all their life "issues" into the mix. The issues become the prime reasons that a person is voted off. In your bunker, I don't think you will have the option to vote anyone off your bunker buddy team.

Yes, comparing your doomsday survival plan to the TV show is sarcasm. If doomsday comes as described in the Revelations of John, for most of us, our goose is cooked. Yet, building underground bunkers is similar to the atomic air raid shelters that citizens built in their back yards in the 1960's. My dad used to say: "... What if I wasted all that time digging a bunker in the back yard back then? ... " That was in response to the possibility of an atomic bomb from Communist Russia attacking the USA.

What we are mostly talking about in this survivor of doomsday is homicide. The human race is up for a cleansing, along with the earth's propensity to have extinction level events. That is the giant anteater in the bunker you build. If those surviving just outside your cocoon find the source of your air, they will assuredly smoke you out.

Therefore you will have to train your children, as bunker buddies, to not misbehave; and your spouse, wife or husband, should be prepared for teenagers to rebel. And if your are just neighbors down there surviving, the others will form alliances and vote you out. That is why you should be very careful about who your bunker buddies are. Yes?
" ... A devastating earthquake strikes Japan. A massive tsunami kills thousands. Fears of a nuclear meltdown run rampant. Bloodshed and violence escalate in Libya.
And U.S. companies selling doomsday bunkers are seeing sales skyrocket anywhere from 20% to 1,000%. (http://lowfuel.org/about/ .March 24th, 2011. HERE) .. "

AMMO, TRIGGER, FACISM :: ATF

True of False
by Pat Darnell, the McGuire Brothers, along with AMMO Land

1)  SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
True \ False

2) SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT AS THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.
True \ False

3)  SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN-RELATED CRIME-RATE OF ALL CIVILIZED COUNTRIES' IN THE WORLD!!!
True \ False

4)  DO NOT ENCOURAGE GOVERNMENT IN WASTING MILLIONS. DISSUADE CIVIL SERVANTS WHO USE PERSUASION AND POSITION IN THEIR EFFORTS LEADING
TO LAWS AGAINST ABIDING CITIZENS HAVING GUNS.
True \ False

If we value our freedom, spreading anti-gun control messages as we are here is a constant reminder of our United States right to bear arms ... If we take guns away from private citizens, then only criminals will have guns.

A BRIEF HISTORY IN RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS AND PROTECT OUR GUARANTEED RIGHTS.

It turns out, in 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded  up and exterminated.

20,000,000
------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1..5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

1,500,000
------------------------------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

13,000,000
------------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated

20,000,000
------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated..

100,000
------------------------------

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated

300,000
------------------------------

Cambodia established gun control in 1956, From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
1,000,000
-----------------------------
TOTAL: 55,900,000 Defenseless, unarmed, people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control ??

With guns, we are 'citizens.' Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese hesitated to invade United States of America, because NIPPON knew private American citizens were ARMED!

Pugilistic Pat and the throw down with Dangerous Dan

I am a deconstructing sort. That's right... give me something and I will deconstruct it using weapons of opportunity. I'm a downer... a buzz-kill, last out of the gates ... party pooper. Yet, sometimes I'm the life of the party.

So, maybe you don't want to tempt me? Some of you cherished readers do tempt me, all the while knowing my tangential personality. So here goes another miserable anecdote --

Everything I Needed to Learn, I Learned in my first dirty Boxing Match
by Pat Darnell, Moopig da' FURST

I have children, six of them. Some are step-children, but I got tired of that nomenclature long ago. They are all my charges; and I ask them equally questions that they could never answer. What questions? Oh, like "... now that Bird Flu and Swine Flu has hit the scene, what is the cure for the common cold -- not Chicken Soup anymore ... eh?"

So if my children are looking in today -- I just want you all to remember this inoculation:
Boxing tells me everything that I need to know to pass on the wisdom of deconstruction. Like this:

What is the first rule of boxing -- the referee gets the fighters to center ring and says "I want a fair fight." Thus, the first rule of boxing and life ... no?

Secondly the referee says -- "Protect yourself at all times."

Stern warning ... no? Third in the order of rules -- "No hitting below the belts."

Fourth -- "Pay attention to me, and do what I say at all time."

Fifth -- "Now, lets touch gloves and come out fighting."

Okay, that is what is supposed to happen. So when I put on the gloves for a round in Dan Alexander's garage for a bout with Dan -- all pro ex-guard for the 77 to 89 NY Jets. I thought there would be the usual center ring discussion, build up or something. Nope. Big Dan just walked over to me and knocked me out. BOOM, I hit the floor [they tell me] ... the next thing I hear is Dan: "Darnell, are you okay?"

I swaggered to my feet and said woozily: "Wow, I really do have a glass jaw." Took off my gloves and sauntered to a chair ... I was the evening's informational entertainment for my buddies, "Hey everybody," yells George Sands, "This is what a knock out looks like."

It really only hurts one's pride, you know; some pain later with headaches, oh and yes when one remembers the episode almost forty years later.

No one after put the gloves on with Dan the rest of the night. Funny peculiar, but I now think old Dan had been practicing that chin trick for knock outs and waited for some knucklehead to try it on. Dan was kind of sweet on my girlfriend, Julie, and ...well chalk it up.

Getting knocked unconscious is a trip. I do not recommend it. If you have never experienced it, that is okay. It is similar to being anesthetized as when pulling teeth or such. You go out, and you come back like your moments of unconsciousness never happened.

"Get your Bell rung, Darnell?"

"Hey, Dan, no one sang the Star Spangled Banner yet."
