MooPig Architectural Nano-second :: "Japanese Glass House"

As Goes Japan, so Goes the World? ...
Mixed martial Articles by Pat Darnell  |  Nov 9, 2014  |  Bryan TX

We don't think so... Japan has a limited amount of real estate on which to build houses. So sprawling Ranch Houses are never going to be built in Japan urban space. At MooPig Arhcitecture Nano-second we notice that the living space of Karasawa's design is extended by the addition of out-door space on the roof. Other examples of this style also extend living space to roofs and to porches covered by cantilevered roofs.

Rafael Reyes said this a month ago:
"Ok so obviously this house is un-livable for anyone but exhibitionists, but I still find the project really very interesting. It's the love child of Domino House, Farnsworth House and Villa Müller refined with that quirky elegance of Japanese architecture. [see below]

"Would be an amazing job to furnish and decorate it."

Yuusuke Karasawa's S House has an entirely transparent facade: "Designed by Tokyo-based architect Yuusuke Karasawa, S House is a two-storey-high building broken up into five split levels, creating a series of evenly sized rooms that are connected by staircases rather than corridors. "

MooPig 'Stuff No One Wants to Hear About' Department :: "Fukushima UPDATE"

More Shaking News from Energy Experts
youTube Capture by Pat Darnell and Elaine D'Rico  |  Nov 7, 2013  |  Austin and Bryan TX

TRANSCRIPT

0:01SCHINDLER: I would say the biggest thing people should have learned from the Japanese nuclear
0:10accident is that for rare events that are catastrophic the tendency of politicians to
0:22go to risk based management is folly. Risk based management works well if you're calculating
0:32car crashes and the probability of getting in one. Things where you have a big database
0:38and lots of events in a big variety of things. For things that happen very very rarely so
0:47that you can't really calculate the probability - just to give you a number astronomically
0:53low and that would be for a tsunami or a nuclear power plant failure. Well, how is it then,
1:01that when you think the probability on a risk-base is of a tsunami causing 6 nuclear plants to
1:09fail...and then if that doesn't blow your mind enough, the calculation of a risk of
1:16a deepwater oilspill is astronomically low. And that happened just a few months later.
1:23So the message is: There are things that are important enough that you don't tolerate any
1:31risk. You have to have data to work with to generate reliable risk estimates and it just
1:39doesn't work for rare or catastrophic events. And that's something that we as a society
1:46need to know because we have politicians who want to see these risk calculations on everything
1:52and if they're below a certain threshold, you know, go with the in doubt one. The precautionary
2:00principle has been lost.
2:02SUZUKI: We're always being told these technologies are foolproof but what is a foolproof technology?
2:08It's a technology free of fools. And who hasn't been at some point gone to a party and gotten
2:13hammered and you come in hungover the next day, or got a cold and didn't want to lose
2:18a days wages so you come in, or fallen in love and lost 50 IQ points. I mean, lots of
2:29things makes us fools and you can't anticipate the fool. How a real life fool -and
2:35technology. But, you know, I make a point of not accepting invitations to be on organizations
2:39- foreign organizations - because I'm focused just in Canada, but last year I did accept
2:44one international invitation to be part of: Japan's Renewable Energy Foundation. It was
2:49set up after Fukushima. Fukushima is the most terrifying situation I can imagine. You asked,
2:58"What can we do?" First of all you have got to get a government that isn't in total collusion
3:04with techno...the energy companies. They're lying through their teeth. 3 out of the 4
3:14plants were destroyed in the earthquake and in the tsunami. The 4th one has been so badly
3:22damaged that the fear is: if there's another earthquake of a 7 or above that thing then
3:31will go and then all hell breaks loose. And the probability of a 7 or above earthquake
3:36in the next 3 years is over 95%. Now what they've got in there is 1300 rods of spent
3:43fuel that have to be kept in water all the time. And they have no way of getting it out
3:49and, you know, they're pouring water in and that water's leaking out and now they've got
3:53this cockamamie scheme of trying to freeze the soil so the (unintelligible) flows in
3:58- well - they don't know what to do and the thing we need is to get an international group
4:04of experts to go in with complete freedom to do what they suggest and right now the
4:10Japanese government has too much pride to admit that. I have seen a paper which says
4:17that, if, in fact, the 4th plant goes under an earthquake and those rods are exposed it's
4:25bye bye Japan and everybody on the West Coast of North America should evacuate. If
4:34that isn't terrifying I don't know what is.

CONCLUSION
Collusion and misinformation of and by Japan [and possibly the rest of the world] has stymied work on the clean up of the Fukushima nuclear plants. From other sources we find the cleanup will take thirty years. If it is that long, when it's done this author will be 88 years old.

MooPig Tsunami Debris Experts Team ::

MEANWHILE ...

More apparent tsunami debris washes up on U.S. shore - CBS News: "The dock was spotted Tuesday by the Coast Guard on Washington state's rugged Olympic Peninsula. The site is about five miles from the nearest road. On Thursday, a swollen stream blocked the debris team from reaching the dock.

The Washington dock is believed to be similar to the 165-ton concrete and steel dock that washed ashore at Newport. Looking like a railroad boxcar, it was 66 feet long, 19 feet wide and 7 feet high. A plaque identified it as one of four owned by Aomori Prefecture that broke loose from the port of Misawa during the tsunami." [Pictures LINK]

"The robotic framework for the HRP-4C, without the face and other coverings, will go on sale for about 20 million yen ($200,000) each, and its programming technology will be made public so other people can come up with fun moves for the robot, the scientists said."

For now, the 158 centimeter (62.2 inch) tall black-haired robot code-named HRP-4C - whose predecessor had weighed 58 kilograms (128 pounds) - will mainly serve to draw and entertain crowds.

HRP-4C was designed to look like an average Japanese woman, although its silver-and-black body recalls a space suit. It will appear in a Tokyo fashion show - without any clothes - in a special section just for the robot next week.

Other robots, like the ones from Hiroshi Kobayashi at the Tokyo University of Science and Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University, have more human-like faces and have been tested as receptionists.

But demands are growing for socially useful robots, such as ones that can care for the elderly and sick, said Yoshihiro Kaga, a government official in the trade and industry ministry.

Its walk was also not quite ready for the Paris Collection, partly because its knees are permanently bent. It has sensors in its feet but lacks the sensitive balance of a real human.

The big challenge in creating HRP-4C was making the parts small enough so it looks female, especially its thinner legs, said Shuuji Kajita, who leads the institute's humanoid research group.

"But this is just the first step," he said.

ANALYSIS: Why is Japan so adamant about whaling?

[Picture LINK]

Occupy Whales
Summary by Pat Darnell | Dec 9, 2011 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]

2.28 Billion Yen goes to whaling this year. The whale hunt is a money losing event, because Japanese don't eat whale meat. It is kept alive due to "vested interests."

The Article compares re-construction costs for the disasters, earthquake then tsunami, with costs of whaling this year. Japan approved 12.1 trillion Yen for ravaged areas in the North and East Japan.

Japanese now in their 50's and 60's claim they used to eat whale meat school lunches.

"It is a problem of government and bureaucratic pride," says Tetsu Sato, professor of ecology at Nagano University.

Japan has one of the "Developed World's" highest suicide rates

Ijime: A Social Illness of Japan,Bullying is a common problem in every generation and every country. In Japan, it is a fairly serious social phenomenon. Actually, the amount of ijime, which means bullying in Japanese, has been decreasing; however, the bullying is getting much more sinister than before. Five years ago, it was top news for the whole year after Kiyoteru Okochi, a 13-year-old junior high school student, committed suicide to escape from being bullied by his classmates.

He left his note that proved and clarified the fact that he was suffering from cruel bullying. He was often forced to soak his face into a dirty river, his bicycle was broken repeatedly and his classmates even demanded that he bring money to them every day. The amount of money that he gave to the bullies reached about ten thousand dollars (Fredman, 1995).

This was not the first time that students committed suicide because of bullying. But it was the first time that Japanese media gave a lot of coverage to the matter of ijime. After that, bullying became one of the most serious subjects in Japan. People wondered why his classmates had bullied him and why he was bullied. There are many possible answers, but none of the causes is simple.

Japan has one of the developed world's highest suicide rates.

At least 30,000 people have killed themselves every year since 1998, according to national statistics. Police said the teenager mixed detergent with a liquid cleanser to make hydrogen sulphide. The gas is colourless but smells like rotten eggs and is highly toxic, leading to suffocation or brain damage.

Dewey's Idea of Sympathy and the Development of the Ethical Self:
A Japanese Perspective

Naoko Saito
University of Tokyo

Introduction: The Closeness Vs. Closedness Tension of a Community

In contemporary American society, political philosophers and educators are currently discussing the importance of community and group bonds.[1] Their common, basic claim is usually that the creation and definition of the self requires a communal relationship. However, close community bonds always involve the danger of exclusiveness and parochialism, the suppression of individuality, or what I will call "closedness." An example is found in contemporary Japanese education. The development of individuality is one of the main officially stated goals of Japanese education today. However, the school-bully problem shows how difficult it is to maintain one's individuality within the close, intense bonds of a group. This example from Japan challenges American proponents of community who emphasize group cohesiveness over individuality. Is it possible to resolve the tension between the closeness and closedness of a community? How could anyone emphasize close bonds of community while valuing individuality and openness?
