MooPig Tech Coroner :: "Malaria"

Power to the People
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Jan 23, 2014  |  Bryan TX

Malaria claims the lives of a million people a year. Bill and Melinda Gates have been in the news, since Bill retired from Microsoft, as philanthropists "out to eradicate malaria." But wait!

The Varsity » First year Univ of Toronto student develops new treatment for malaria: "Jessie MacAlpine is a first-year life sciences student who has developed a treatment for malaria. She has filed for a patent on the treatment, and she plans to facilitate its distribution so as to maximize access to it. MacAlpine’s project, Mustard Oil as an Apicomplexan-targeting Drug Therapy for Plasmodium falciparum, was extraordinarily successful at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, where she won Best of Category for Medicine and Health Sciences. Most recently, MacAlpine was the Canadian ambassador at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists, where she won the International Cooperation Prize."

'via Blog this'

CONCLUSION
OMG for realsies, this is the story of the century ... Yay ... HURRAH for Jessie McAlpine!!!

As for Bill and Melinda Gates showering money on institutions ...
" ...These grants ... [see Grants HERE] ... come at a time of new momentum in the global fight against malaria—we're seeing growing commitment among political leaders; impressive gains in prevention and treatment efforts; and encouraging scientific progress. It is exciting to see such a diverse range of efforts underway to combat the disease more effectively..."

I know, reader, it looks like we are making fun of malaria victims ... we don't mean harm in that way ... who and what we are making fun of is anal retentive billionaires who can't live in a world with imperfections.

MooPig Brain Industries :: "Drugs"

"Be prepared to let evidence dictate what you think."
Retrieved by Pat Darnell  |  Jan 11, 2014  |  Bryan TX

Jan 22, 2014... UPDATE: Read entire Democracy NOW article HERE ...

[Picture LINK] " ... I'm glad I have the life that I have, because I can think. I will be relevant in terms of the public discourse on an issue that I care about. ..."

Often times regular people find extraordinary lives to live. That is, Carl Hart rebounded from his hard knocks childhood to become a professor and sensational researcher.
" ... While Hart may have escaped the hood, it has never escaped his mind. Through his drug research, he has endeavored to address the issues facing marginalized black communities like his own — though his own understanding of those issues has evolved. "I thought that I was going to solve the problem of drug addiction," he told the New York Times. "But it turns out that drug addiction wasn't the biggest problem; the biggest problem, I found out, was actually drug policy." (Gabriel Grand. December 2, 2013. LINK) ... "
Read the Entire Article about Carl Hart's book High PriceHERE:

Meet Carl Hart, the Scientist Debunking America's Myths About Drugs - PolicyMic: "GG: Your findings went against what scientists were saying in the late '90s. Did you feel any pushback from the scientific community?

CH: That study ran in 2000, and it mostly went unnoticed! Back then, science was enamoured with the brain, but we didn't have any brain imaging in the study, so we were met with, "Who cares?" I did a subsequent study with methamphetamine addicts — same results. But they just ignored it! Only now has that study received some attention, in part because of my book."

'via Blog this'

CONCLUSION
Carl Hart's interview speaks much on enlightening young people on the use of drugs. Instead of setting them up to think "they have to be perfect, flawless, with no bad habits" which is ludicrous, rather teach them to know the truth about all these amply available drugs. "We teach young people to use seat belts when they drive, to use condoms when sexually active, so why don't we teach the truth about using drugs (paraphrased)?"

Carl Hart is imagining a culture that doesn't just spout off axioms, slogans, platitudes, and beatitudes, but actually goes further and describes the real reasons behind the rules. Our present societal norms create young people who like himself, Carl Hart:
"... I wasn't questioning things, and I wasn't learning how to think critically. I did what I was told to do in my environment. It may not have been consistent with the mainstream, but it was normal in my context.(ibid. Gabriel Grand.)..."
However, in his quest to think and be critical, Carl Hart manages to go beyond the typical slogans, Just Say No, and guide others to a more logical attitude toward drug use.

" ... Want to boost your immune system for the up-coming flu season? Show the flu who's boss and strengthen your immunity with this antioxidant loaded raspberry orange smoothie! Raspberries are packed with 10 times the antioxidants found in tomatoes and broccoli - in fact, these little berries contain some antioxidants that are found almost nowhere else.

" ... Both raspberries and orange contain vitamin C (which is crucial for developing a strong and healthy immune system) - however, raspberries contain an antioxidant called ellagitanins, which is found nowhere else except in small amounts in strawberries (as well as in some Chinese herbs). These antioxidants not only strengthen our immune system, but they scavenge cancer-causing chemicals, rendering them inactive and thus unable to mutate our DNA.

" ... Many studies have shown the positive effects of ellagitanins (Ellagic acid) in raspberries such as:

- Making cervical cancer cells undergo apoptosis (cell death)
- Inhibiting mitosis in cancer cells (cancer cell division) by arresting the G1 cycle
- Preventing the P53 gene destruction by cancer cells
- Similar results above for cancers of the breast, pancreas, esophagus, skin, colon and prostate. Positive responses also observed in periodontal disease, radiation induced chromosomal damage, slowing the degenerative process of aging and healing neurodegenerative diseases (Posted Yesterday by livelovefruit. Honey Bee Down

SHELL and BAYER -- what have you Done?
Picked up by Pat Darnell  |  July 4, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture/MEME from faceBook] Does this photo get your attention?

Honey bees are having a really hard time getting back on the bus. Technology, no matter how well thought out, still destroys nature. And in this case technology destroys natural selection. We need bees, we need them bad.

37 Million Bees Found Dead in Elmwood Canada | REALfarmacy.com | Healthy News and Information: "“Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said. He and many others, including the European Union, are pointing the finger at a class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. used in planting corn and some other crops. (Jon Radojkovic. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. HERE )"

The development of this class of insecticides began with work in the 1980s by Shell and the 1990s by Bayer.

'via Blog this'

Neonicotinoids, "first new class of insecticides introduced in the last 50 years, and the neonicotinoid imidacloprid is currently the most widely used insecticide in the world." Is it time to ban this class of insecticide?
  • Neonicotinoids work their way into pollen and nectar of flowering plants and trees, substances that are consumed by honey bees.
  • Neonicotinoids can persist in soils long after only one application. Some residual has been measured from woody plants up to six years after application.
  • The European Union just recently voted to ban these insecticides for two years, beginning December 1, 2013, to be able to study how it relates to the large bee kill they are experiencing there also.
The LINK'd story traces the application of insecticides using newer air seeders, sending the insecticide airborne. Hopes are that all interested parties can get together and talk about the reason bees, the prime pollinators of so any different plant species, are dying.

Please read this article "Are Neonicotinoids Killing Bees?" If you only read the Summary at the beginning, you can pass along the information to others. The plight of our way of life on earth is in the details.

MooPig in the Pharmaceutical Age :: "Barry Bonds"

Here's Some of the POOP
by Pat Darnell  |  April 15, 2011  |  Bryan TX
" ... [A] federal court jury found the home run king guilty of obstruction of justice Wednesday for giving an evasive answer under oath more than seven years ago. Rather than say "yes" or "no" to whether he received drugs that required a syringe, Bonds gave a rambling response to a grand jury, stating: "I became a celebrity child with a famous father." (ESPN.com news services. April 14, 2011. Barry Bonds found guilty of obstruction. retrieved today HERE) ... "

[LINK]Baseball-reference.com
You must take a look at this site, referenced in the LINK above. No kidding. It is an unbelievable array of statistics of Barry Bonds, or any baseball player you want, and everything similar. It is an online encyclopedia of numbers and angles on a megalith leviathan level. It makes me dizzy just to look through this site.

Bzzzzzzzzzz ...

Anyway, ... first we find the 22 seasons of Major League ball for Barry Bonds; did you know Barry Bonds is Reggie Jackson's cousin?

Bonds: Drafted\Signed June 5, 1985 -- Final Game: September 26, 2007

The year to look at is 2001 when Bonds hit 73 home-runs ... with 476 at bats. He was 36 years old and earned $10.3 million that year. After looking at Barry Bonds' resume of stat's -- this is not a sparse record of a man's early work life; it is testament.

So, Barry Bonds is found out to maybe have told a lie. Who gives a hoot?

NEXT WEEK: MooPig Pharmaceuticals takes a look at the propensity of a 36 year-old ball-player to yelp: "Go ahead, stick me!" when he has arthritis in everything from his elbows down.

As for you Kids, you still have to "Just say No!"

RANDOM COMMENT from OUT There --
" ... That's right. If Bonds had been working for Goldman Sachs he would have been given a "get out of jail card" and a bonus just for being an employee. Commit serious fraud as directed by management and you get an extra get out of jail card and free legal counsel plus a very large extra bonus. Continue this fraud over many years and you get to be CEO. (blogisti. 15.Apr.2011. LINK) ... "
