Bees could 3D-print "concrete honey": "Manaugh stressed that the project is not a serious suggestion to modify the world's honey bees and is an observation of a possible future situation.
"Our goal was simply to illustrate the spatial or architectural possibilities that would emerge from something like this," he said."

"... Geoff Manaugh: When you look at what is already happening in the worlds of bioengineering and synthetic biology, you see that animals bodies are already been trained, tweaked, or genetically altered to produce industrially useful substances. We thought, if goats can be made to produce weapons-grade spider silk by the US military and if silkworms can be guided by robots to weave architectural structures, then it didn't seem outrageous to suggest that bees could be genetically modified to produce a concrete-like adhesive substance, rather than just honey. (27 July 2014. )..."

Honey Bee Down :: Exhausted Bee
[Picture LINK]
Another Year of My Life!... • 18.05.2014 I learned yesterday that when you see a...: "I learned yesterday that when you see a bee on the ground that isn’t moving, it’s not necessarily dead, it’s probably just dead tired from carrying lots of pollen and needs re-energising. So if you mix a tiny bit of water with some sugar and let it drink it will give it the boost it needs to continue on its way. Bizarrely, this exact thing happened today! I found a knackered bee, mixed up some sugar water, gave it a drink and watched it guzzle and guzzle then suddenly come back to life. It was amazing! Thank you Patrick, it was an excellent tip that i’ll never forget and will continue to pass on to others!"

UPDATE Honey Bee Down :: "Somebody is Monkeying Around"
Symbioticism, Commensalism, Mutualism, Parasitism, Oh My!
Perpetrated articles by Pat Darnell | Mar 14, 2014 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]
MooPig is all about symbiosis, thus the pig in the bull, but can the pig live without the bull? Sure it can. Can the bull live without the pig? Yes. So the two groups do not harm each other.
Let's look at another symbiosis, can the human live without the bees? No. The honey bee is "matchmaker of crops and bringer of honey (Jennifer Frazer | January 31, 2014. LINK) ... "
So the larger group of bees can live without humans all right. This is not a symbiotic relationship. It is a relationship where one group benefits while the other is unaffected by that group. Bees pollinate flowers, fruit and nut trees, vegetables, and 90 in all foods, despite human intervention. Bees make honey regardless of human activity. Yes, we humans are almost a parasite to the honey bees, because someone has their arm in the honey comb.
How do we skip evolutionary steps? It is by diddling around with genetics, and by making splendorous insecticides, that's how. So, where does this take us? Where does it leave the honey bees?
"... According to the authors of this study, this is the first evidence that honeybees can be infected by plant-virus contaminated pollen, but it might not have been the first or last. About 5% of plant viruses are pollen-borne. The genetic material of most? RNA.(ibid. Jennifer Frazer.)..."

CONCLUSION
" ... The evidence of systemic spread and propagation of a plant-pathogenic virus in honeybees raises awareness of the potential impact of new viral disease emergence on bee health. While findings from this study have important implications for understanding TRSV transmission and pathogenesis, much remains to be learned about the intracellular life cycle, species-level genetic variation, and pathogenesis of the virus in honeybee hosts. Although the cause(s) of CCD and the decline in the worldwide bee population is not yet fully understood ..., a growing body of evidence has indicated that parasites and pathogens are key culprits involved in widespread disappearance/death and population declines of honeybees (ibid. UPDATE Honey Bee Down :: "Start your own Bee Colony"
Beginnings of Beekeeping
Mashed Bee articles by Pat Darnell | Dec 14, 2013 | Bryan TX
Due to cascading colony disorders in bee populations, it seems a great idea to begin raising bees. So a quick study in HOW TO is in order, with followup, and maybe some interviews at Texas A and M University. If there is a way to put bees in our backyard, we will keep you, dear reader, posted.
As we begin this study, we hope you find some wisdom from our activities. I know weekend ranchers, urban cowboys and cowgirls, and many others will be interested in our findings.
With that intro,
How to Start an Urban Bee Hive - Urban Farm Online: "More than 40 years later, Warren is still raising bees in his backyard. However, he’s traded his country home for an urban backyard. He lives in the middle of Lexington—population 280,000. In his backyard, which measures approximately 40 feet by 60 feet, he keeps five full-size bee hives. Each hive houses 50,000 to 70,000 Honey bees. With neighbors in every direction, Warren has to manage his bees carefully. “There are no problems with my bees,” Warren explains. “My neighbors know all about them. In 12 years in this house, I’ve never had a problem. Of course, to be neighborly, I give them all honey!”"
'via Blog this'
CONCLUSION
Doing the right thing, MooPig Wisdom attempts to build a hive, and provide habitat for disappearing honey bees. Maybe this is too progressive of an idea for the suburban community MooPig lives in.

Honey Bee Down
SHELL and BAYER -- what have you Done?
Picked up by Pat Darnell | July 4, 2013 | Bryan TX
[Picture/MEME from faceBook] Does this photo get your attention?
Honey bees are having a really hard time getting back on the bus. Technology, no matter how well thought out, still destroys nature. And in this case technology destroys natural selection. We need bees, we need them bad.
37 Million Bees Found Dead in Elmwood Canada | REALfarmacy.com | Healthy News and Information: "“Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said. He and many others, including the European Union, are pointing the finger at a class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. used in planting corn and some other crops. (Jon Radojkovic. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. HERE )"
The development of this class of insecticides began with work in the 1980s by Shell and the 1990s by Bayer.
'via Blog this'
Neonicotinoids, "first new class of insecticides introduced in the last 50 years, and the neonicotinoid imidacloprid is currently the most widely used insecticide in the world." Is it time to ban this class of insecticide?
- Neonicotinoids work their way into pollen and nectar of flowering plants and trees, substances that are consumed by honey bees.
- Neonicotinoids can persist in soils long after only one application. Some residual has been measured from woody plants up to six years after application.
- The European Union just recently voted to ban these insecticides for two years, beginning December 1, 2013, to be able to study how it relates to the large bee kill they are experiencing there also.
Please read this article "Are Neonicotinoids Killing Bees?" If you only read the Summary at the beginning, you can pass along the information to others. The plight of our way of life on earth is in the details.

MooPig Report from the Middle :: "Honey Bee Naturalist Down"
I am Uneasy about the Fate of our BEES

Illinois illegally seizes bees resistant to Monsanto’s Roundup; Kills remaining Queens | Global Research:
'via Blog this'
It doesn't pay to be a "naturalist" these days. More evidence of Big Brother watching down on the masses is shown in this report from the middle of Illinois. " ... A certified letter from the Ag Dept.’s Apiary Inspection Supervisor, Steven D. Chard, stated:
“During a routine inspection of your honeybee colonies by … Inspectors Susan Kivikko and Eleanor Balson on October 23, 2011, the bacterial disease ‘American Foulbrood’ was detected in a number of colonies located behind your [Terrence Ingram's] house…. Presence of the disease in some of your colonies was confirmed via test results from the USDA Bee Research Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland that analyzed samples collected from your apiary….” (Global Research, May 24, 2013. LINK) ... "
Mr Terrence Ingram is a hometown hero:
APRIL 27, 2012, APPLE RIVER, IL – The little town of Apple River in northeast Jo Daviess County, Illinois is the hometown of a big man - Terrence Ingram. Though not big in a physical sense, when it comes to saving the American Bald Eagle, there is hardly anyone in the United States held in higher regard than Ingram. His years of documented research and expertise regarding eagles and the work of the Eagle Nature Foundation, founded by Ingram, is in great part responsible for the bald eagle being removed from the “Threatened Species List “ in the United States. (Tom Kocal | Prairie Advocate News. April 27, 2012. LINK) ..."This is the culprit that Illinois Department of Agriculture is looking for: American Foulbrood (Paenibacillus larvae)... it is doubtful in Mr Ingram's case that anything good will ever come from the governmental intervention on his bee hives. And we can assume that this is how it will be for the duration.

You see Timmy, ... the government is controlled by the banks, and the banks have their diseased fingers in everyone's business.
"The way Lassie had to constantly save the family, you have to believe they were dumber than dirt. The only way their farm could have survived is from government grants, which you can figure Lassie filled out the paperwork."That's our Report from the Middle today, where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are above average.

UPDATE Honey Bee Down :: "Confabbing Insanity: US Approves Bee Death"
Can It be any more Obvious?
Another Internet Pawl and Ratchet by Pat Darnell | May 20, 2013 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]
Insanity: US Approves Bee Death Pesticide as EU Bans It: "Corporate politics is business as usual inside the United States, as I am once again shocked to report the EPA has sided with industry lobbyists over public health in approving a highly dangerous pesticide that the European Union recently decided to ban over fears of environmental devastation. Not only have neonicotinoid pesticides been linked repeatedly to mass bee deaths, also known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), but the continued use of such pesticides threatens other aspects of nature (and humans) as well."
Recruiting is the name of the game. Especially in politics, a person is recruited by professionals for as little reason as his face. Recruiting the face puts a lot of pressure on a normal person, who thinks he is being recruited for his testimony, or his brains, or something other than just his face. The likelihood of one "pretty" person being recruited over another "less pretty person" in today's media blitzed, cacophonous, rabble is not a long shot.
Such broad strokes of a critical brush beg explanation. Or does it? For you who have been recruited, why do you think it was? Was your recruiter smarter than you? Did you have some similar attribute shared with your recruiter? Was the other person "the competition," fat or balding?
Let's say you are a patron at a whore house. The whores line up for you to pick one. You are with your friends, so you feel an edge to pick out the "best" candidate for your party, eh? You are also under pressure because the "matron" doesn't have all night. What are your criteria?
There you have it. That is how politicians are picked out. Can you think of other professions that are recruited this way?
So, now your politics has a face. Industry lobbyists get behind those faces. They make money less scarce for those faces. Remember that the faces still think they have reached their political office because they are smarter than you and me. So their ego's grow to out of proportion. Their faces start to swell up, flesh falls off their faces; it is painful to watch.
Back to the topic: " ... Not only have neonicotinoid pesticides been linked repeatedly to mass bee deaths, also known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), but the continued use of such pesticides threatens other aspects of nature (and humans) as well. (Anthony Gucciardi. May 12, 2013. LINK) ... "
'via Blog this'
CONCLUSION
Bees are dying because political recruiters are playing stink finger with egomaniacal politicians who can't help themselves.

- Cleanliness, background check
- stature, good bone structure
- pretty face, symmetry
- Reminds you of some one, similitudes
LINK) ... "

CONCLUSION
Bees are dying because political recruiters are playing stink finger with egomaniacal politicians who can't help themselves.

UPDATE Honey Bee Down :: "Bee Colonies"
The Invisible Romantics
Compendium by Pat Darnell | May 9, 2013 | Bryan TX

'via Blog this'
Hey everybody on the Internet... here's a challenge for you. Let's occupy Bee Colonies. How about it? As a single voice from the heart of America, we could write songs about the disappearing Bee colonies, we could write posts, we could camp out near Bee Colonies... I don't know... maybe we could save the BEE's.
While you watch Dancing With the Stars on Mondays, you could make a call during a commercial.
Is there any other creature more impassioned than your average Worker BEE? I ask you to drop the veil of gadgetry for a second: is there a thing on earth more efficient than a honey BEE?
What is it America? You don't want almonds on your salads anymore? You want to have lemonade without lemons?
Hey, INTERNET, GET off your ASS!

Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees!: "Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees! A blockbuster study released last week by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has for the first time labeled the pesticide clothianidin as an "unacceptable" danger to bees. 1"

What makes a great Blog? It must have a cause. We at MooPig Enterprises have taken on several causes in our publications. But we are not yet a great Blog, because seemingly, no one is listening! Colony Cascade Disorder, CCD, is one cause we are serious about. It is like this: if there are no bees, there are no cattle; there are no pigs.
The circle of life, so precious on earth, calls on us seldom, because we are, take this personally, notorious bad stewards. We have polluted the entire ocean. Now that my friends is a major boo-boo. And we have not stopped there. We have tainted the food supply and its chain of workers, the friendly insects, birds, worms, and frogs.

The perilous existence of a migratory beekeeper amid a great bee die-off
By the time John Miller realized just how many of his bees were dying, the almonds were in bloom and there was nothing to be done. It was February 2005, and the hives should have been singing with activity, plump brown honeybees working doggedly to carry pollen from blossom to blossom. Instead they were wandering in drunken circles at the base of the hive doors, wingless, desiccated, sluggish, blasé. Miller is accustomed to death on a large scale. “The insect kingdom enjoys little cell repair,” he will often remind you. Even when things are going well, a hive can lose 1,000 bees a day. But the extent of his losses that winter defied even his insect-borne realism. In a matter of weeks, Miller lost almost half of his 13,000 hives — around 300 million bees. ....

Researchers are scrambling to find answers to what's causing an affliction recently named Colony Collapse Disorder, which has decimated commercial beekeeping operations in Pennsylvania and across the country.
Initial studies of dying colonies revealed a large number of disease organisms present, with no one disease being identified as the culprit, vanEngelsdorp explains. Ongoing case studies and surveys of beekeepers experiencing CCD have found a few common management factors, but no common environmental agents or chemicals have been identified.
