MooPig Paint, Home Decorating Department :: "Walls"

Considering the 2013 Color of the Year is: PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald ...
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Dec 21, 2013 | Bryan TX

Today, as the Winter Solstice 2013 rolls by, I begin the unbelievable task of painting the walls in our living room. Six months ago, we had to get rid of all our old couches because of a "bed bug" attack; a pulverizing, ignoble, soul crushing event. Yes, I have not posted much on the bed bug incident of 2013 because it is traumatic, and believe you me, you never want that in your lives. We dangerously almost lost all our minds.

But, undaunted, we recently purchased new couches and chair, and I will now attempt to find the perfect color to tie all our new furniture together. Do we want a bold statement, or a fashionable color blast, or subdued understated effect in our living space?

Ready to Paint a Room? 7 Mistakes You Don't Want to Make | Decorating Guide - Yahoo Shine: "There's power in paint. When done correctly, a fresh coat of paint will make a room feel clean, cozy, and bright. But a bad paint decision can make a room feel small, busy, or drab. Choosing the right paint color now becomes especially important when you eventually decide sell your home; as some paint colors can turn off potential home buyers, while others can add value. Read on for common mistakes people make when choosing interior paint colors and how to avoid making them yourself. Paint on!"

'via Blog this'

Since we don't want our rooms to look like book covers, we can think of the Pantone's as accessory colors, don't you think? The empirical claim by colorists is that different colors create sometimes opposing psychometric responses from people.

Because our floor plan is an open plan, we will need to use one color to tie all the rooms together. Too many themes will make the house gaudy.

And, I have to face it, there is something alluring to being fashionable right? If I look at art, paintings, and I do, I see palettes of colors, such as these in the sidebar, being used in landscapes. Pantone has done a good job in its "color of the year's" campaign. But, I don't want to take Pantone's word as law; I must embrace the psychology of the members of my family.

We have two children living at home. Number six child is crazy for gaming, so that is stoic backgrounds with highlights; his older sister is crazy for pink and black. I think these are stages they are going through, but I must adopt some of that demeanor, or they might feel uneasy while lounging.

My wife just wants something besides the beige that we inherited in the buying of our home. But she very much likes this painting, which has a very definite color palette, decided on by me, but I can't remember exactly what I did there.
[Picture LINK]

It is harmonious for a reason, but it was long ago, and while it hangs in the Dining Room, I should follow this color scheme. Right?

Woe is me.

CONCLUSION
If I think too much on this subject, walls will never get painted.

NEXT WEEK: Should I consider texture, or just make it satin-y?

MooPig Share the Science Department :: "Familiarize Yourself with the Present Moment"

If only I had an Exotic Brain
Mashed article from mashed NYTimes articles by Pat Darnell, and the Herd  |  Dec 7, 2013 |  Bryan TX

[Slide LINK]

On my desk sits a Rubric's Cube with dust on it, and unsolved. If I had an exotic brain I would be more like the wise bovine with its special cultural symbiosis. One cow alone does not a Summer make... eh? It takes many diverging carbon based entities to make up a theory about life, the universe, and everything. It also takes a compendium of particles and winking beams, and dark energies to make up everything in the universe. It takes a herd to get through life.

Lately, for the past 50 years, Nobel Prizes in Physics have centered around finding "new particles" in the make up of matter and all things. In 2002:
" ... It was there, in the 1970s, that Raymond Davis Jr. attempted to catch neutrinos, spooky subatomic particles emitted by the sun, in a vat of cleaning fluid a mile underground and for a long time came up empty. For revolutionizing the study of those particles, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2002. ( DENNIS OVERBYE. Published: October 30, 2013. LINK) ... "
It sort of has become a melee of particle farming. "If it is out there, we will find it," say the many hopeful, yet frustrated, physicists. Each experiment, to find the elusive dark matter that supposedly makes up 25% of the universe, takes at least a year to complete. And for those who devote themselves to the task, there is seldom joy at the end of the procedure. Lately, experimenters have this to say:
" ... As has become de rigueur for such occasions, the scientists took pride and hope in how clearly they did not see anything. “In 25 years of searching, this is the cleanest signal I've ever seen,” Dr. Gaitskell said in an interview.

That meant, the scientists said, that their detector was working so well that they would easily see a dark matter particle if and when it decided to drop by. (ibid. DENNIS OVERBYE. Published: October 30, 2013.) ... "
What can all this fantaz-morphic research bring to the table of common knowledge? That's a good question, and not easily answered. Safe to say knowledge of our primordial physics does not help us in any knowable way today.
[Picture LINK]

The math of Higgs-boson is impossible for the layman to understand. High energy physics, H.E.P, is what is called "basis-independent." However, unlocking pre-Big-Bang physics could offer knowledge of particles and their energies that could be used in medicine to heal, or to help read all the band waves that are invisible to humans. It turns out that high energy physics research is open ended research, although fundamental, that will take many generations to find that which it seeks. And, some "basis's are misleading, or too convenient." Nonetheless, it will be the "correlations between deviations in Higgs-boson couplings that will reveal the underlying physics."

Each discovery is tagged by the issuance of a Nobel Prize, as in "... finally, in 2012 — after 48 years, billions of dollars and the work of thousands of talented experimental physicists — we finally saw a tiny bump in data plots obtained at the Large Hadron Collider outside Geneva. That bump, evidence that the collider was producing Higgs boson (SEAN CARROLL. Published: October 8, 2013. LINK ) ... vindicated the work of Mr. Englert and Mr. Higgs years before ... "

Finding the Higgs Leads to More Puzzles - NYTimes.com: EXCERPT  |   " ... As Joseph Lykken, a theorist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and Maria Spiropulu, of the California Institute of Technology, put it in a new paper reviewing the history and future of the Higgs boson: “Taken at face value, the result implies that eventually (in 10^100 years or so) an unlucky quantum fluctuation will produce a bubble of a different vacuum, which will then expand at the speed of light, destroying everything.” The idea is that the Higgs field could someday twitch and drop to a lower energy state, like water freezing into ice, thereby obliterating the workings of reality as we know it. Naturally, we would have no warning. Just blink and it’s over."

"But cheer up. ... You might think that finding the Higgs boson, after 50 years and $10 billion or so, would bring clarity to physics and to the cosmos. But just the opposite is true: they may have found the Higgs boson, but they don’t understand it. (DENNIS OVERBYE. Published: November 4, 2013.) ... "

'via Blog this'

In reference below you will find a slew of NYTimes articles mostly by Dennis Overbye, about multiple universes, dark energy, massive protons, Higgs-Boson, super-symmetry; how does it all go together? Because, "accepting multiple universes means giving up the Einsteinian dream of a single explanation for the cosmos, a painful concession."

We, as a species, are limited by what we can explain.
“Physical science has historically progressed not only by finding precise explanations of natural phenomena, but also by discovering what sorts of things can be precisely explained. These may be fewer than we had thought. (Steven Weinberg,November 7, 2013. LINK) .. ”
CONCLUSION
This mad hatter idea of "Theory of Everything, T.O.E." is a lonesome, undiscovered thing. If it is even out there, it will escape many future explorations. It was a folly to get excited over a T.O.E in the first place; or was it?
" ... Dark matter has teased and tantalized physicists since the 1970s, when it was demonstrated that some invisible material must be providing the gravitational glue to hold galaxies together. Determining what it is would provide insight into particles and forces not described by the Standard Model that now rules physics, not to mention a slew of Nobel Prizes. (ibid. DENNIS OVERBYE. Oct 30, 2013.) ... "
For now, a quarter of the universe is still missing in action. The biggest surprise of discovering the Higgs boson? That there were no surprises; ... in theoretical physics: what if the Higgs field exists in an ultra-dense state that could mean the collapse of all atomic matter? If so, then it explains how fundamentally the universe lives and dies -- and regenerates.

Steve Braun EXCERPT | Comment:
" ... Nov 23 2013: I get a little frustrated when physicists use a cloaked version of the "fine-tuning argument" in their cosmology. You will find many physicists saying that the "how" questions should replace the "why" questions, because "why" begs the question of "purpose" and "who dunnit". We should not conclude that there is anything special about the Higgs mass, anymore than we should conclude there is anything special about the strength of gravity. If you think that the universe must be fine-tuned to support our life, you have started with a conclusion - life, or the length of time we expect to be observers of our universe - and then looked at empirical data and concluded that there is something special because the values for the Higgs field in either state allow us to continue to observer our universe for "a long time". (LINK) ..."
Therefore, in another universe parallel to ours, the alternate me understands the value of Higgs-boson? Now that the quantum vaccuum is "the medium" ... Probably so, but the alternate me might be Ferdinand the Bull.

MooPig Free Range Grazing Rights Department :: "Keystone XL Pipeline"

[Picture LINK]

The Keystone XL Pipeline and its politics, explained:
"Why is it so politically controversial?

There are two reasons Keystone has become a political lightning rod. The most important factor is what development of the oil sands—or tar sands—as they’re called by opponents—means for global warming. Extracting bitumen—a mix of oil, sand and clay — from the region is more akin to mining than conventional oil drilling, and the final product is 15 percent higher in greenhouse gas emissions than other forms of oil.

NASA climate scientist James E. Hansen, who just retired from his federal job so he could become a full-time climate activist, said if all the oil was extracted from the oil sands it would be “game over” when it came to the effort to stabilize the climate." (Juliet Eilperin on April 3, 2013. LINK) ... "

MooPig Big Speeches Department :: "The Pope Letter"

Pope Wrote Resign Letter in Latin
Retrieved for your Perusal by Pat Darnell  |  Mar 6, 2013  |  Bryan TX

" ...After the pope finished reading his statement to a meeting of cardinals who had gathered at the Vatican on other Church business, it was up to the Vatican's PR wing to translate the message and fill in a global press corps on what was said and what would happen next. At least one Italian reporter, however, got the jump on everyone else thanks to the fact that she was apparently paying attention back in high school: (Josh Voorhees | Posted Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Pope Benedict XVI Resignation Announcement VIDEO: Pope announces he is stepping down in Latin.:

'via Blog this' For those of us who opted to study a living language back in our school days, here's the official translation of the pope's announcement:

Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have

had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is. Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

Who Would Win in a Cage Match? :: No Holds Barred

You've got to love Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello. Some dudes just talk about the issues — he acts. In recent years, he’s picketed for farm workers, thrown his support behind various boycotts, and has even been arrested with underpaid hotel workers. You have to respect that. He doesn’t talk, he ... gets out there and actually participates in nonviolent resistance.

“Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades,” Morello declares in an op-ed piece for Rolling Stone.

The Romney’s employed a German trainer, Mr. Ebeling who continues to work for the Romney dressage business which is also used as a tax deduction. The case was settled out of court. NY Times

In an interview with NBC set to air Thursday, Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said her husband's campaign will not release any additional tax returns to the public ahead of the election.

"We have been very transparent to what's legally required of us," Romney told reporter Natalie Morales, according to excerpts from NBC News. "There's going to be no more tax releases given."

But as for whether the campaign is trying to withhold embarrassing information, Ann Romney told NBC "there's nothing we're hiding."

Violating Basic Rules of Decorum and Civility in Tee Shirt Design

The Prices we Pay for Silence

9:15:08 CT ... Vote is 240-179 in the wake of ‘You lie’ outburst by S.C. Republican
[SOURCE] "The final tally late Tuesday was 240-179, generally but not entirely along party lines. It was 233 Democrats and seven Republicans voting to chastise Wilson, 167 Republicans and 12 Democrats opposing the measure and five Democrats merely voting "present." (updated 5:58 p.m. CT, Tues., Sept . 15, 2009) ..."

You see -- There was a speech by President Obama that made mention of "certificated People" living "illegal" ... and that "illegal certifieds" would "not be eligible for federal subsidies to purchase health insurance under his overhaul plan."

In attendance, occupyong his Congressional seat was South Carolina Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, who shouted, "You lie ..."

*[That is all he shouted. Every one else kicked himself\herself for not thinking of that them self.] Jon Stewart of the Daily Show picked up on the story and said: " ...

This evening: [See Poll results and comments, and entire article HERE] "Whoa. Based on some earlier teasing from PPP's Tom Jensen, it sounded like Wilson's outburst against Obama was not hurting him at all in his district ... that's clearly not the case according to the complete results of the poll.
" ... Voters disapprove of Wilson's outburst by a 62-29 margin, and 49% say that they're less likely to vote for him (with 35% being more enthused to re-elect him). That's despite a bare plurality of voters thinking that Obama was actually telling the truth about his health care plan's coverage of illegal immigrants (46-42).

I guess that New York Times piece filled with gushing praise for Wilson from back home may need to be re-examined... "
Joe Wilson's outburst came as Obama said that Democrats have insisted that their proposals prohibit undocumented immigrants from getting assistance. It is an interesting issue, that is not being given proper attention. That omission makes Republicans think "the legislation has need of stronger verification requirements."

MooPig's Red-Tape Worm Czar, Jacob Oscar Barqarsen, J.O.B. for short, said, "Paper Tigers all."

Today the peers of Joe Wilson have voted to scorn him. Not all Republicans tended to strongly disagree. Yes even some Repub's obstained on rebuking Wilson.
*[For those who don't understand the previous re-invention of citizen status rigmarole: "You Lie..." refers to the need to clean out all 11 million wet backs living illegally in the USA: all carrying bonafide USA Paper Tiger documents, by the way. Only then, say Joe Wilson types, will we talk about healthcare reforms.]*
"We're here on some witch hunt, some partisan stunt that the American people are
not going to respect," said Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio. Visitors in
the gallery applauded that remark, drawing a warning from the chair.
One of the Democrats voting "present," Barney Frank of Massachusetts, said, "I think it's bad precedent to put us in charge of deciding whether people act like jerks. I don't have time to monitor everyone's civility."

"I don't have time to monitor everyone's Civility, either," said our Jacob Barqar, Worm Czar. "If we consider the amount of red-tape, and paper needed to rebuke Congressman Wilson, we could all have gone on FaceBook and worked on each other's Green Gardens. At least we would've saved a few square feet of rainforest's, while pandering to Pelozi's peepers, simpers, jerks and morons."
