MooPig Paint, Home Decorating Department :: "Walls"
Considering the 2013 Color of the Year is: PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald ...
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Dec 21, 2013 | Bryan TX
Today, as the Winter Solstice 2013 rolls by, I begin the unbelievable task of painting the walls in our living room. Six months ago, we had to get rid of all our old couches because of a "bed bug" attack; a pulverizing, ignoble, soul crushing event. Yes, I have not posted much on the bed bug incident of 2013 because it is traumatic, and believe you me, you never want that in your lives. We dangerously almost lost all our minds.
But, undaunted, we recently purchased new couches and chair, and I will now attempt to find the perfect color to tie all our new furniture together. Do we want a bold statement, or a fashionable color blast, or subdued understated effect in our living space?
Ready to Paint a Room? 7 Mistakes You Don't Want to Make | Decorating Guide - Yahoo Shine: "There's power in paint. When done correctly, a fresh coat of paint will make a room feel clean, cozy, and bright. But a bad paint decision can make a room feel small, busy, or drab. Choosing the right paint color now becomes especially important when you eventually decide sell your home; as some paint colors can turn off potential home buyers, while others can add value. Read on for common mistakes people make when choosing interior paint colors and how to avoid making them yourself. Paint on!"

Since we don't want our rooms to look like book covers, we can think of the Pantone's as accessory colors, don't you think? The empirical claim by colorists is that different colors create sometimes opposing psychometric responses from people.
Because our floor plan is an open plan, we will need to use one color to tie all the rooms together. Too many themes will make the house gaudy.
And, I have to face it, there is something alluring to being fashionable right? If I look at art, paintings, and I do, I see palettes of colors, such as these in the sidebar, being used in landscapes. Pantone has done a good job in its "color of the year's" campaign. But, I don't want to take Pantone's word as law; I must embrace the psychology of the members of my family.
We have two children living at home. Number six child is crazy for gaming, so that is stoic backgrounds with highlights; his older sister is crazy for pink and black. I think these are stages they are going through, but I must adopt some of that demeanor, or they might feel uneasy while lounging.
My wife just wants something besides the beige that we inherited in the buying of our home. But she very much likes this painting, which has a very definite color palette, decided on by me, but I can't remember exactly what I did there.
[Picture LINK]

It is harmonious for a reason, but it was long ago, and while it hangs in the Dining Room, I should follow this color scheme. Right?
Woe is me.
CONCLUSION
If I think too much on this subject, walls will never get painted.
NEXT WEEK: Should I consider texture, or just make it satin-y?

Moopig's Hard News to Swallow Department :: "Texas on the Brink"
If I were an Academician, I'd be Frustrated
Mashed Reports by Pat Darnell | Aug 20, 2013 | Bryan TX
This may look like a sideways mashing of three articles, but bear with it. While Texans dilly dally about their penis sizes by over-compensating with bigger and bigger trucks, and with more and more guns and cross-bows, and less and less brain-power ... there is good reason for that.
I am a Texan; third generation. I was here in Houston during Hurricane Carla. I remember Mayor Louie Welch, Lady Bird, and LBJ. I'm a yellow tail Texas Democrat from the 60's. My favorite toy was a stick and the concrete gutter.
You can't out bullshit me about Texas. And I mourn for Texas, wasted on floating turds like Rick Perry, Dubya Bush, and all their collection of heathens.
But first ...
World Penis Size Map Is Hard News to Swallow | The Stir:
Laws of averages are not lying. Americans's girth size is over-compensation for diminished penis size. Texas is no exception. Why have one dualie truck in your driveway, when you can have three? And a trailer with a couple of 4-wheelers on it?
'via Blog this'
Everything is bigger in Texas, including this world's biggest prick: that is why we have tea-sippin' offspring like Rick Perry soaking up the cash and spewing out the bullshit. His generation of Texan must have been conceived by seepage through the sheets.
Texas ranks out of 51 …
46th in tax revenue raised per capita
47th in tax expenditures per capita
15th in sales tax per capita
33rd in Average Salary of Public School Teachers
2nd in public school enrollment
45th in SAT scores
43rd in High School graduation rate
2nd in Birth Rate
1st in Percentage of uninsured children
4th in Percentage of children living in poverty
1st in Percentage of population uninsured
1st in Percentage of non elderly uninsured
49th in Percent of low Income population covered by Medicaid
48th in Percent of population with employer based healthcare
49th in per capita spending on Medicaid
4th in percent living below the poverty level
2nd in overall birth rate
7th in teenage birth rate
50th in percent of non elderly women with health insurance
6th in percent of women living in poverty
9th in percentage of homes that are sub prime
10th in foreclosure rates
49th in average credit score
47th in median net worth of households
1st in carbon dioxide emissions
1st in volatile organic compounds released into the air
1st in amount of toxic chemicals released into the water
1st in amount of recognized cancer causing carcinogens released into the air
1st in amount of hazardous waste generated
41st in amount of unionized workforce
9th in income inequality between rich and poor
5th in income inequality between rich and middle class
45th in percentage of voting population that votes
CONCLUSION
One man's junk is another man's treasure.

MooPig Home Schooling Department :: "Twerp and His Kin"
Critical Mass Thinking
Mashed by Pat Darnell | July 9, 2013 | Bryan TX
Our lead, PD, commentator wrote a book in the 80's that was meant to depict the anti-christ, and his minions. The book was never published. Looking back on its pages, titled "Twerp and His Kin," brings to mind a certain urgency. Or, as a way of measuring progress, conversations in the book tell me we haven't progressed any.
To seek closure on the failed project is hopeless. Any observable condition of the characters that grow out of the book is by now over-done by reality itself; in cinema and TV, real life drama, and in family degradation. It would have led us into the next century leaving a trail of doubt, and hurt feelings. Oh, but that has already happened.
A good friend, Joe Holesworth, "Stratoblogster," pointed out this website: Exposing the Truth -- You Decide, HERE. It points out that many of us are thinking the same thing about Twerpdom, and have been for centuries.
" ... Once, the citizens of one’s nation are already thinking, worst, critically thinking, then that is a dangerous scenario for any erring leaders, stupid administrators, unjust system, unfair policies and abnormal conditions. (Jose Mario Dolor De Vega. July 8, 2013. HERE)... "
Philosophy, Reason & Enlightenment Through Critical Thinking:
The German moral philosopher, Immanuel Kant wrote in an influential and monumental essay, “What is Enlightenment” the following remarkable words:
"Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one’s understanding without the guidance of another.
"This immaturity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding, but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another. The motto of enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have the courage to use your own understanding!"
'via Blog this'
" ... And what are the root causes of man’s darkness of his mind that breeds immaturity and inability to think for oneself? (Jose Mario Dolor De Vega. July 8, 2013. HERE) ... "
That is the zillion dollar question, isn't it? But as you know, you have to read the article to get a feel for the answer to this.

It produces studious, high-achieving, self-assured brainiacs. The student body is a model of diversity: half the kids come from poor families, and students are evenly divided among African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics." (Todd Spivak. Thursday, Mar 2 2006)
We at MooPig Home School Department chose this article because of the author of the piece: Todd Spivak. Reference needed to MAD Magazine, required for disambiguation of that remark.

Lubricating Spacewalking astronauts encounter bolt trouble - Technology & science - Space - msnbc.com
Spacewalking astronauts encounter bolt trouble - Technology and science - Space - msnbc.com
EXCERPT | " ... Mike Fincke, one of NASA's most experienced spacemen, had to settle for a partial lube job, after the bolts holding down covers on the massive joint started popping off unexpectedly.
"Bummer," said his spacewalking partner, Andrew Feustel. ... (SOURCE)"
by Pat Darnell | May 26, 2011 | Bryan TX
This is an interesting tale for some. We never think about what it must be like to work on the International Space Station, ISS, in this way. The space walking astronaut lost a "bolt" ..."while trying to lubricate a joint in the life-sustaining solar power system of the International Space Station...(Dunn, Marcia. May 22, 2011. HERE)."
For instance, if I focus on the "bolt" now floating in space around the earth in micro-gravity, I could be tempted to exaggeration. You know the feeling, like this 'bolt missing leaves a gap, a fissure in the structure of the Solar Power System that eventually leads to the shut down of the whole program...' type exaggeration.
Let's move on. It is a bit humbling to think of the giant space construct ISS hovering in orbit has the same needs as a truck's stopover at Dixie Truckers' Home in McLean IL. They both need constant lubrication. A truck will continue for a long while without proper lube-ing, but it won't be pretty. No, that Mack will shudder and shake, and squeak its way down the highway.
It links us all to know the ISS needs a regular lube job.
We are all part of the great space walk. We can lube our vintage cars with a same vigor as a space walking astronaut. It also rings home that a 'buck fifty' part like a bolt can bring the whole mechanical dynamo down.

PART ONE :: Stroppy Gurgling Cod :: Annie Schatte has something to say to the Hags down on Fuhkeesuhkee Lane
WAHOO Homes Developments 1965 to 1976
Case Study in Progress by Pat Darnell along with the Two Sisters RE`al Est`Ate Sundries
I wish I could say that there has been progress over my lifetime. I wish the buildings we built back when there were master craftsmen walking the streets, in pre-one million population days Houston, had not somehow became land-locked.
My Dad and our projects, those homes and apartments, are part of a totally differential [nearly unfathomable] demographic, and next to newer buildings. Some of the units are gone to seed. Later built edifices surrounding our beauties, are built on restricted hundred year flood plains.
However, as I think of after-1960's decades of framing out homes and apartments, with smashed and broken fingernails, using a 32 ounce framing hammer, Lufkin retractable tape ... and a four foot straight edge bubble level ... it is one time I actually am serious, and shed one large salty cheek burning tear, pitying my self and my righteous mindset.
In 1968, we build a house over the next 90 to 120 days. I know you know the kind of bedroom community house -- a two story on a slab, federal barn seductive to look like a conversion ... oooh yeah ... including some custom elements and plenty of curb face -- we spend a ratio of about one third cost for foundation, one third for doors, windows, and 'glazing.' The last third of construction money goes to subcontractors in the trades. 'Subs' who provide installations according to shop drawings, after code-checked necessities approved at the state of the art of the time.... have to be scheduled around other jobs they are doing.
Drawing on Short Money Market
Particulars of years '65 to '75 -ish, makes for a preamble to what was to be. It seems to me ... in a personally constructed opinion ... that a revolution began in our United States of America banking system in that twenty years from 1960 to 1980.
Money became less fluid for homebuilding die to restricted money supply overlapped starts on newfangled "master planned communities." P-shaw... I said back then, and blah-ba-blah-bah humbug to a defunct paper money mill, I still say today. Savings and Loans, and Main Banks in towns all over failed to keep up with 'know it all Bank owners.
What built America is no longer available to builders. It seems one needs a minimum US$250,000,000 in collected blood money just to borrow US$75,000 to build a house. That's a paper money system fer' ya'. YIKES, again!!
We list it. Realtor Annie Schatte comes back with a contract for 20% under our asking price. We wait.
90-120 days becomes 180 days -- and home unsold, stays listed even though many contracts offered -- but each is too low for our jewel of denial.
At 240 days, eventually the bank calls us and we must find a buyer. Most the time, we go back to the previous offers... YIKES!!
We end up making only 3% profit for all that effort, a margin down from 28% to 33% wishfully thinking when we started stick framing this modern WAHOO home, house, home sweet home. that is a house that we built on speculation someone would buy it and close no longer than 45 days after construction comple'.

Soap Box: It is a felling of wistful nostalgia that notices a soul can no longer see Lindens or Dutch Elms sewn in background of new yearbooks pictures, of our old school grounds. (Sayings lifted from Deadwood, fully plagiarized)
