After reading the Fountainhead I swore I would not ever read another book by Ayn Rand. I'm a homegrown yellow tail Texas Democrat.

After reading the Fountainhead I swore I would not ever read another book by Ayn Rand. I'm a homegrown yellow tail Texas Democrat.
What is so frustrating about her novel is that she glosses over the technical aspect of her very technical story. She never gives any real, honest to goodness, description about architecture, while the whole story revolves around the construction industry. It is nerve racking. And then her protagonist, Howard Roark, commits an act of terror and blows up a building. Roark dynamites the building to prevent the subversion of his vision.
One source says: "How others in the novel relate to Roark demonstrates Ayn Rand's various archetypes of human character, all of which are variants between Roark, the author's ideal man of independent-mindedness and integrity, and what she described as the "second-handers". "
I am holding myself back on telling what I think about Ayn Rand. Let's just say that any man who thinks he is an archetype man as described in her books, is a total "putz."
Book News: Should Ayn Rand Be Required Reading? : The Two-Way : NPR: Idaho state Sen. John Goedde (half-jokingly) introduced a bill this week that would require every Idaho high school student to read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and pass an exam in order to graduate. (ANNALISA QUINN. It caused a storm on the left. "But why not," asks Michael Moynihan. It might just rid us of her noxious prose for good. (Michael Moynihan. Feb 8, 2013 4:45 AM EST. LINK )
NEXT WEEK: "Where's the Brick?"
