Group of Indian Jews said to be from 'Lost Tribe' move to Israel:

CHURACHANDPUR, India - A group of 50 Jews said to descend from one of the 10 Lost Tribes prepared Thursday [Dec 20, 2012] to emigrate to Israel from their village in northeastern India.
The members of the Bnei Menashe community prayed in their local synagogue and then hugged their crying relatives before heading off to the airport in the Manipur state capital of Imphal, 55 kilometres (34 miles) away.
The Bnei Menashe say they are descended from Jews banished from ancient Israel to India in the eighth century B.C.
An Israeli chief rabbi recognized them as a lost tribe in 2005 and about 1,700 moved to Israel before the Israeli government stopped giving them visas. The government recently reversed that policy. About 7,200 remain in India. (ASSOCIATED PRESS DECEMBER 20, 2012. HERE) ... "

27 centuries of exile
“This is an incredibly emotional day for all of us,” said Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund as he welcomed Singsit and her family to Israel. “The arrival of the 2000th Bnei Menashe immigrant is a milestone for the community and for the Jewish state.
"After 27 centuries of exile, the lost tribe of Bnei Menashe is truly coming home. But we will not rest until all the remaining Bnei Menashe still in India are able to make aliyah as well,” Freund added.
Freund, who joined the flight from India, said that during the flight "we all had tears of joy in our eyes, realizing that this is part of the closure of a 2,700-year historical circle of this lost tribe."
Freund stressed that "their immigration to Israel demonstrates the power and determination of the Jewish faith: Despite being cut off for hundreds and thousands of years, they never forgot who they were and where they want to return to."
