Earlier this year, Bloomberg calculated that the top 10 US banks receive $83 billion a year in subsidies from the government, due to their cheap cost of funding and the preferential treatment creditors give them because they assume the government sees them as TBTF.

CONCLUSION
What starts out as a great idea for a business often turns up in the foreclosure books at the loaning institution. It is the norm more than the exception, as most businesses fail in their first year of tribulation as a fully leveraged enterprise. Marginal returns get swept away as the loans are called in.
However, there are businesses that are thought to be "Too Big To Fail, TBTF" ... and these are given preferential treatment by their creditors and by the government. Yes, they are bailed out, so that they won't fail.
