MooPig Home School Department :: "Houston's Best High School"

Catholic Case for Home Schooling
Collected by Pat Darnell  |  Mar 6, 2013  |  Bryan TX

These Kids Go to the Best Public High School in Houston - Page 1 - News - Houston - Houston Press: "The Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions is this area's best public high school. It produces studious, high-achieving, self-assured brainiacs. The student body is a model of diversity: half the kids come from poor families, and students are evenly divided among African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics." (Todd Spivak. Thursday, Mar 2 2006)

We at MooPig Home School Department chose this article because of the author of the piece: Todd Spivak. Reference needed to MAD Magazine, required for disambiguation of that remark.
" ... MADtv (season 4) Pat Kilbane appeared as the Coffee Guy and the spokesman for Spishak, and performed his Howard Stern impersonation; (wiki. Mad magazine. LINK)
You see, SPIVAK sounds like SPISHAK ...
 'via Blog this'
" ... In 2010, the magazine's oldest and longest-running contributor, Al Jaffee, told an interviewer, "Mad was designed to corrupt the minds of children. And from what I'm gathering from the minds of people all over, we succeeded." (Michael Mechanic | Fri Sep. 24, 2010. LINK)
So, whatever Houston's finest high school does for students, MAD un-does it.

This post makes no sense. And that's all the News when you don't want it.

Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees!

Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees!: "Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that's killing bees! A blockbuster study released last week by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has for the first time labeled the pesticide clothianidin as an "unacceptable" danger to bees.  1"

What makes a great Blog? It must have a cause. We at MooPig Enterprises have taken on several causes in our publications. But we are not yet a great Blog, because seemingly, no one is listening! Colony Cascade Disorder, CCD, is one cause we are serious about. It is like this: if there are no bees, there are no cattle; there are no pigs.

The circle of life, so precious on earth, calls on us seldom, because we are, take this personally, notorious bad stewards. We have polluted the entire ocean. Now that my friends is a major boo-boo.  And we have not stopped there. We have tainted the food supply and its chain of workers, the friendly insects, birds, worms, and frogs.

MooPig City Desk Department ::

Now that the 2012 Election closes... I guess we should start a serious discussion. What about infrastructure?
by Pat Darnell  |  Oct 3, 2012  |  Bryan TX

[Logo LINK]

As I hear distant thunder rolling across the gentle hills of Texas Hill Country, no one is complaining. The only trouble is that it is too hot, but that always occurs before a cold front comes in.

In 1926, The National League of Cities, NLC, was founded. In this small town, Bryan TX, the concepts of "City" are not well known. There is not a body of  knowledge anywhere around town that shows concern or  planning as to the dangers approaching as the "Town" grows into a "City." Yes I am watching it happen as we speak.

For instance -- there is absolutely no activity in this town for adolescent youths. That's right, the children caught in Bryan TX in the tender first stages of "young men and women" have no outlet for their zeals for life and liberty. It's dismal. There is underage drinking, illicit sex, and drug abuse available... how about some other outlets for our young disenfranchised youth? Eh, Bryan TX?

Most of the NLC historical perspective can be read on numerous sites, included in the Reference section below. From WIKI, I would like to quote this:
"...NLC lobbies Congress on multiple issues, including city infrastructure, particularly transportation; supporting local energy efficiency and conservation efforts; strengthening and stabilizing the housing market; helping build stable families; supporting community safety; and reforming the country’s immigration system. NLC’s core lobbying principles include avoiding unfunded mandates, preserving local authority and protecting the intergovernmental partnership. (WIKI. HERE)... "
I think they made a mistake there in that last part of the statement... but I suppose "traffic" would be the number one concern for cities today. In that category "Modern City" we have Chicago as the second city, a place where New Yorkers say the buffalo still roam. I lived in Chicago for 18 years, and why I stayed so long, is because every year I would say "Well, this year has to be better than last year..." Not true. The biggest problem in the Big Onion is, and still is, traffic.

Chicago is a modern city like Houston is a modern city to Chicago. Include Dallas, Denver, all of municipal South Florida, Salt Lake City, in that discussion ... and you have opened a can of worms that spills out all over the place.

Utah Local News - Salt Lake City News, Sports, Archive - The Salt Lake Tribune: "Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker is gaining a national reputation as an environmental leader — so much so that he's making an international trip. Becker and officers from five other U.S. cities will travel to Hamburg, Germany, this week to share ideas with their European counterparts on green initiatives for cities. The exchange on sustainability is being organized by the National League of Cities, which will pay for Becker's trip, according to the Mayor's Office."

'via Blog this'

The slippery truth is "You can't Outsource Infrastructure."

Why don't we use this post as an introduction to the NLC? We will find out together what it means for the Modern City and all its Infrastructure.

Poop Snow on an Ancient Burial Ground: This Can't End Well:

'via Blog this'

When I lived in Houston, in the 70's, I worked with a boss who was born and raised in Wisconsin. He told us stories about snowy weather. One day he mentioned his job at home was to take out the garbage for his mom. So all winter he took the bags of waste out by the garage and threw them in the snow. They got buried there, instead of collected like usual. When the snow thawed, "garbage-geddon."

[Picture LINK]

Winter around the corner; you have your snow skis out and dusted off. There is one thing you should know. If you are going to Flagstaff's Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort be sure to bring your anti-fungal creams and ointments.

"... [B]y expanding onto 74 acres of sacred land in the San Francisco Peaks and manufacturing 100 percent of its snow from sewage....": Yes that is right, correct, reported HERE.

I wonder what would happen if the same thing were to happen at a ski resort in Utah. You know that ancestor thing is huge there amongst Mormon LDS. Piling human waste all over the burial sites of groups is one thing; having your family fall and scrape themselves in the frozen effluence of sewage is another thing. I don't think the living or the dead are going to like this very much.

This is fracked in so many ways: the entire ski slope is "made entirely from repurposed poop." And, also, the U.S. Forest Service says the "crap water is just fine, grading its quality just below that of drinking water." Isn't this "disrespecting Native Americans' traditions, while also harming the environment and polluting aquifers?" (Horn, Leslie. Sep 27, 2012. HERE)

MooPig's Radio History Nano-second :: "KPFT, Houston, was Bombed"

Bombing of KPFT in 1970
Picked up by Pat Darnell | Sep 30, 2012 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK] " ...In the quiet, early morning hours of a Tuesday, [in 1970], a deejay was spinning Arlo Guthrie‘s Alice’s Restaurant in a radio station studio on the northwestern edge of downtown Houston. On the southwestern edge of the city, under the cover of darkness, a bomber had placed dynamite on the roof of the station’s transmitter.... "

KPFT Targeted: Bullet Pierces Studio Window of Pacifica’s Houston Station: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2007 :: " ... Station manager Duane Bradley said the shooting might have been political. If so, it would not be the first politically motivated attack on KPFT. More than 35 years ago, the Ku Klux Klan blew up the station’s transmitters twice within the Houston station’s first year on the air. ..." (Democracy Now. Aug 15, 2007. HERE)

In October 1970, five months after the first bombing, KPFT’s transmitter was bombed for a second time just as the station was broadcasting folk legend Arlo Guthrie’s song "Alice’s Restaurant."

'via Blog this'

I remember this happening in 1970. It barely made the news back then. No one gave a whoot whether commercial free radio existed or not, that is people who sit in governing type offices, didn't care.

But the shadow government of KKK must have cared a lot if Pacifica KPFT Houston broadcasted.  Because they put dynamite on the roof of the radio's station's transmitter and blew it up.

I was fifteen. I used to listen to Pacifica late night when they would play full albums of great bands... it was so cool to have FM radio, and cruise in your Momma's Chevy Chevette SS, on a star spangled night with the top down... yes I was a spoiled brat. It was my time of experiential elitism that probably rivaled Mitt Robmoney's upbringing.

And like authoritarians of that decade, many would today remove my freedoms if they could, just to block my 'inalienable rights' to listen to commercial free radio, dammit.

Conversations 5th of February, 1987
by Pat Darnell aka MooPig
"Today’s Quiz is: 'What do jack rabbits, buffaloes, sharps, cotton mouths, raccoons, and Westheimer have in common?'” was the survey over the radio this morning on Gulf Wind FM.
Begis divided his attention between the disc jockey, and the group of co-workers just outside his cubicle.

“The paving of Kirby will no doubt bring growth along the perimeter of West University Place,” said Bogota.

“When did the surveyors show up?” asked Rusty.

“They were there about 6 months before ground breaking,” said Paul Bogota, architect and owner of this association by the same name, Bogota Assoc. “What I don’t know is how they settled with the local businesses.”

“Hey, you guys, don’t you remember; KTRK 13 started broadcasting in Houston in November 1954,” hollered Begis from his cubicle.

They all looked at each other with dead pan poker faces to see who was going to call Begis’s bluff. No one did.

“Do you mean on Bissonett? We were talking about Kirby,” said Rusty.

Unabashed, Begis continued; “Old money, cotton money, has title to almost all the land where the SW freeway was built.” When no one spoke up, Begis said, “I think many developers have gone in but find area divided by the Railroad and the new freeway. Overhead high wires... all the negatives to create the buffer residents want... between them and any riff-raff that might try to squat on the border of WUP.”

“Wiff-waff? Eh, Begis? Where do you come up with this?” said Marjorie Bender. “And can you, uh, be quiet? ...How does he know all this stuff?” she whispered to the group.

“Like I was saying, I was reading Rinko’sª column this morning,” resumed Paul Bogotá, “he interviewed Mayor Welch, who said ‘the developments will likely dawn a new era for Houstonians.’”

“Duh,” said Mike.

Begis chortled at Mike, and cringed; then quit breathing as he burgled into a brain bubble thinking to himself; “That means the Triangle project will not survive the increases in land values due to environmental impact, water and sewer.... And , Yikes, it is now on the wrong side of the freeway also. What happens if we are the first high-rise in the area?”

Begis grabbed the phone to satisfy impulse and to call Claudia, “Do you want to go to the Hobbit Hole tonight?”

“Uh, sure but you have to pick me up after work in Sharpstown,” replied Claudia.
“At the shopping center; or at your house?”

“My house.”

“OK.”

The morning chat group had dispersed and all had gone to their own cubicles. Begis never stopped staring blindly at the pile of drawings on his drawing board. “No wonder the Triangle is not working out, all those soggy bottom types living right there in Montrose. And, developments nearby are dragging their twats. The plans are too tedious. How is Bogota going to justify all our time on this one?” all in Begis’ head. “I wonder what Stanley Tigerman would do with this site?” thought Begis to himself. “I wonder what the Chicago Seven would do.”

The following is how the mind of Begis functions on occasions like this; when a puzzle piece seems not to be part of the over all picture. His mind, having been pinched and augmented somehow, would launch into note-taking databases of information storerooms.

His body of work was a bramble of specifications tucked away to help in times of indecision. Experiential events that held significant amounts of information that support design decisions Begis would have to make. There were events in storage that would become authenticated on application. So he had to go into deep thought.

It was a backward, reverse sort continuum of vaults' opening from recent to past. It included his personal experiences; other history was sketchy in there. Begis sat sinking again more deeply in to himself, until he was in a state of inertia of an apparent stupor, instigated by his brain finding the shortest distance between correlations in his present state of cogitation: the brain of Begis had all metabolic systems supporting it, and it continued with humming something like this...

....During the 1970s, Booth joined the "Chicago Seven," a diverse group of architects that held a series of influential exhibitions and symposia to encourage new approaches to architecture in Chicago.....

First of all, in 1976—we began in 1975—we were the Chicago Seven and that first book about Chicago architecture. How did that come about? [It was] as a resistance to that single overriding goddamned thing, the Miesian thing. I love Mies, but it was about the descendants…So we evolved to make a way for another move in Chicago."

Stanley Tigerman continues "When I joined the AIA ...years ago you couldn’t displace another architect without letting him know. You couldn’t undercut fees. You couldn’t market, you couldn’t brand. (Tigerman, S; Interview, nd)
Now you can undercut fees, you can market, you can brand. And the AIA forces it at their conventions by spending tons of time on shit like marketing and branding! I’m asking YOU the questions. But I think encouraging signature work in formalistic ways is discouraging to people who are trying to be responsible, say, environmentally. Where were architects in the leadership field? Where were architects when ADA loomed large on the horizon? Were they leaders in terms of sustainability; absolutely not? (Tigerman, interview)
...The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) [42 U.S.C. 4321 et seq.] was signed into law on January 1, 1970. The Act establishes national environmental policy and goals for the protection, maintenance, and enhancement of the environment and it provides a process for implementing these goals within the federal agencies. The Act also establishes the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). The complete text of the law is available for review at NEPA net.

Notes to self: Timeline needed...
The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended ...Publication L 91-190, 42 U.S.C. 4321-4347, January 1, 1970, as amended by Pub L 94-52, July 3, 1975, Pub L 94-83, August 9, 1975, and Pub L 97-258, § 4(b), Sept. 13, 1982 ... establishment of a Council on Environmental Quality, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that this Act may be cited as the "National Environmental Policy Act of 1969."

Begis was on a row, a bloody row of logic...

Purpose Sec. 2 [42 USC § 4321] ...The purposes of this Act are: To declare a national policy which will encourage productive and enjoyable harmony between man and his environment; to promote efforts which will prevent or eliminate damage to the environment and biosphere and stimulate the health and welfare of man; to enrich the understanding of the ecological systems and natural resources important to the Nation; ....

........ There was commotion at the front doors, enough to start Begis returning from his brain- bubble existence and he exclaimed to no one around:
“Those are all names of streets in Houston!” the answer to the morning’s radio quiz.

The front doors swung open and in walked store planning VP from Main Street Stores; Gary Zakiewicz, big farmer looking dude. Tall, young and long-armed; he always wore dark tailored suits and red themed rep ties; he always walked just like some actor he couldn’t place. He seemed to be... “Oh, now I remember: Andy Griffith.”

Zakiewicz wore big black shined Florsheims that accented his long heel to toe, giant, country stride. Begis was reminded of his former Tom Jones fan turned hippie-sister-in-law’s paranoiac assessment of Nark’ shoes: “That’s how you can tell if a Nark’ is around. Always look at their shoes,” she had said.

Begis thought back, "I think she liked to fantasize about size of men’s' feet. I don’t think it kept her out of trouble, though,” thought Begis to himself.

The way Zakiewicz dressed was obviously en vogue Vice Prez uniform at Main Street. He had single break, no cuff, no pleats pants; someone said he had been in the Coast Guard. From his cubicle Begis noticed Zakiewicz had more grey in his hair than last time he saw him six months ago at Bogota’s Christmas Party.

Zakiewicz got along with Rusty Speck, somehow, and as he marched pass Rusty’s cubicle, Rusty said, “Oh, oh... here comes trouble.” The funniest thing about it was that Rusty later began dressing like old, young man Zakiewicz.

Everyone else gave Zakiewicz the hairy eyeball. He was oblivious, of course, being at the top of his game. He marched right up to Carol. She looked up as if she had not noticed the entrance march and she said: “Hi, Gary. Paul will be right out.”

“Carol, did those plans arrive here from Headquarters?” asked VP Zakiewicz.

“Let me ask Begis,” she said and picked up the handset.

Begis answered, “Yes, they are in the conference room. Carol, I think Bogota has assigned Russell to head that team.”

Begis kept looking at the layout on his table while spitting his monotone into the phone; contemplating the mass of cement needed to pour the piers, and cast the basement walls. "Who's going to tie all that rebar off?"

“All that concrete -- too hot... it sucks,” he breathed a curse at the design. To make this design better would put Begis in the role of authoritarian. Begis is a very reluctant authoritarian.

“The famed Chicken ranch at La Grange ceases operations according to Mayor of that town. Much of the shut down has to do with Channel 13's reporter Marvin Zindler’s investigative report started way back on August 2, 1973,” blurted an announcer to his morning radio listening day-time crowd of Greater Houston and outlying areas.

Begis thought to himself; “I’ve got to get me some of those Florsheims." He took a deep satisfying breath, first of the day: "Maybe tonight before I pick up Claudia.”

ª Leon Rinko is a fictional columnist for the former Houston Post daily newspaper. Begis read his column every Thursday when it appeared and sometimes Sunday. It was one significant thing he and his owner/boss Bogota had in common. Begis also listened to Gulf Wind Radio public broadcasts that sometimes included interviews with Rinko.

TWO --
The Land-for-Peace delusion never seems to die, no matter how often it is made clear that jihadists will take advantage of any concession by Israel to strengthen their position further, and that they will continue to press on until Israel as a whole is obliterated. As the Hamas Charter says, quoting Muslim Brotherhood founder Hasan Al-Banna: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." [ ... ]

In 1987, the Arabs living in the territories occupied by Israeli in the 6-Day war began a series of riots and violent confrontations now known as the First Intifada, a movement quite independent from PLO leadership. Soon after, Islamic militants founded the Hamas movement.

The Hamas was formed from the Mujama movement, which had been a political party with no military ambitions that was given some encouragement by Israel earlier in the decade, as a means of countering the influence of the PLO, and perhaps because the opposition of the Mujama to an international conference that would adjudicate the problem of Palestine, coincided with the policies of the Begin and Shamir governments.

Hamas name
Hamas is an acronym of Harakat al Mawqawama al Islamiyya meaning "Islamic Resistance Movement." The word Hamas also means "zeal." The H in Hamas is an Arabic 'Het and it is sounded as a pharyngeal fricative, a sound made deep in the throat like the 'Het in "Shalom 'Haver" made famous by President Bill Clinton. The "a"s in Hamas are pronounced approximately like the "a" in "cat." In Hebrew, the a's are pronounced as "ah."

Hamas capsule history
The Hamas has a 'military' wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, that engages in terrorist acts and a 'civilian' wing that supposedly confines itself to education and 'good works.' Hamas perpetrated numerous suicide bombings and other terrorist attacks, at first in order to sabotage the Oslo Accords and peace process, and then as part of the Second Intifada. Israel successively assassinated its leaders, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Sheikh Ahmed Rantissi, forcing the leadership underground. However, in January of 2006, candidates representing the Hamas swept to victory in Palestinian elections, overcoming the traditional leadership of the Fateh and PLO. In June of 2006, Hamas affiliates captured an Israeli soldier by tunneling across the border between Gaza and Israel In February of 2007, Hamas, Fateh and other factions entered a unity government in a deal brokered by Saudi Arabia and Egypt. However, in practice, Hamas ruled Gaza on its own. It formed the Executive Force over the protests of the Fatah and Palestinian Authority. The Executive force was a combination internal police force, political force to be used against Hamas opponents and terrorist group. In June of 2007, Hamas ousted Fatah forces from Gaza in a bloody coup, throwing Fatah members off the roofs of buildings after shooting them in the knees. At least one Fatah member was sliced into steaks that were sent to his family. Since Gaza had been totally evacuated by Israel in the unilateral disengagement of 2005, Hamas currently (2009) rules Gaza as a de facto state government. It has used Gaza as a base for launching rocket attacks against Israel. On June 19, 2008, Israel and Hamas concluded a "lull" or Tahdiya agreement that was brokered by Egypt. Hamas, but not Israel, declared that this truce was for a period of six months. Rocket fire from Gaza was reduced but not stopped. Hamas greatly stepped up smuggling of arms through tunnels beneath the Egyptian controlled Rafah crossing. Hamas dismissed the international monitors that were to have controlled the Rafah crossing, and then declared that Gaza is "under siege." Israel retaliated for rocket fire by closing the Israeli crossings periodically. On December 18, 2008, Hamas declared that they would not renew the truce. Thereafter, Hamas and associated organizations directed a rain of rocket and mortar fire at Israeli towns and cities, reaching as far as 45 KM away with Grad rockets that had been smuggled in during the lull period. On December 26, 2008, Israel launched operation Cast Lead, attacking the Hamas in Gaza at first by air and later in a limited ground invasion. [ ... ]

I’m sure you heard about the big Phish comeback/reunion set of three shows in Hampton, Virginia over the weekend. Seems like most thought the shows were a big success. But, not everyone. From Billboard…

Police said Monday they confiscated about $1.2 million in illegal drugs and more than $68,000 in cash from concertgoers. Authorities also arrested 194 Phish fans during the three-night celebration of the band’s return to the stage after a nearly five-year absence.

Most of the arrests were for drug possession, use and distribution, police said... [ ... ]

WRESTLEMANIA is 25 Years Old

HOUSTON; we have SMackDown... and we're not talking Geese down now...
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | [HERE]

"Land it in the Bayou... Co-Pilot to Sky Pilot of Comic Books come to life," they say in Houston. Wrestlemania Celebrates 25 Years In Houston -
Written by jstrike on Mar-12-09

On Sunday April 5, 2009 the WWE will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its biggest annual spectacle. Wrestlemania 25 will take place in the Reliant Center in Houston, TX and the WWE is lining up some high octane action and some head turning drama to make this Wrestlemania well worth the pay per view price.

Wrestlemania conjures up the memories of such legendary wrestlers as Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and of course the late Andre the Giant. This year's Wrestlemania will not only pay homage to the great Wrestlemania's of the past but it also promises to make some unforgettable memories of its own.

Triple H will defend his WWE championship against the legend killer Randy Orton in what promises to be a spectacular main event. When Randy Orton knocked Triple H's wife Stephanie unconscious this match became more of a grudge match than a championship match.

As with any Wrestlemania there will be several championship matches. The Big Show challenges Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship and the Money In The Bank match will determine who will be the next challenger for the heavyweight championship. But the match to watch will be the match between two long time Wrestlemania veterans when Shawn Michaels squares off against the ghoulish Undertaker. Michaels is probably one of the only superstars to not be intimidated by the Undertaker and with years of Wrestlemania experience between these two combatants this promises to be a great match and a great anniversary celebration of the Wrestlemanias gone by.

Response to: "Bagpipes in Space" at Pribek.net

Madoff's Rolodex: Was NASA on it?
Assumptions; assumptions; assumptions -- Why Not Bagpipes in Space? [HERE]

Summary -- $1.6 billion is starting to look like a bargain.

Description: Is Cost an Issue in Preventing Bagpipes in Space --
This article is from the Space FAQ, by Jon Leech leech@cs.unc.edu and Mark Bradford tla@surly.org with numerous contributions by others. [HERE]

75 Space shuttle mission costs
Retrieved by Pat Darnell

The answer depends heavily on assumptions, some of which are:
- What costs are being spread over missions?
- What's the shuttle flight rate?
- Are figures adjusted for inflation (constant dollars) or not?
- Is the expense of periodically building replacement orbiters (such
as Endeavour) included?

People arguing over shuttle costs on the net are usually arguing from
different assumptions and do not describe their assumptions clearly,
making it impossible to reach agreement. To demonstrate the difficulty,
here are a range of flight cost figures differing by a factor of 35 and
some of the assumptions behind them (all use 1992 constant dollars).

$45 million - marginal cost of adding or removing one flight from
the manifest in a given year.

$414 million - NASA's average cost/flight, assuming planned flight
rates are met and using current fiscal year data only.

$1 billion - operational costs since 1983 spread over the actual
number of flights.

$900 million - $1.35 billion - total (including development) costs
since the inception of the shuttle program, assuming 4 or 8
flights/year and operations ending in 2005 or 2010.

$1.6 billion - total costs through 1992 spread over the actual
number of flights through 1992.

This is How I Heared it

Win It !! By going HERE and saying a few kind words, ya bums.....

Pat Darnell and Friends
August 17th, 2008 at 6:03 pm

Willie is the twelfth son of the Republic of Texas, and has thirteen daughters of the republic for sisters, of the Nelson Clan. Rear Admiral Nelson of the Texas Navy is his Dad and Charlotte Laughing Blossom is his Mother from Indian Nation of Big Bend National Reserve.

He built his guitar out of an old Edsel that was junked. He studied with the Japanese Opera Company of Albany before his debu as a Country Western Hi-Hopes. Then he was plundered by his friends when he started getting paid for his act… because he smoked weed and drank lots of Tequila with Jerry Jeff Walker. ….when along comes the IRS.

He owes them rev’noors lots of dough. Then he has to pawn his cowboy boots, that he made for himself from an old stuffed Grizzly bear that once stood in the showroom at the Jack Roach Ford in Houston. He had to walk in his stocking feet for a few months in a spirit quest to Austin, and Gaucheness’s at Luckenbach, and back again to Houston.

He cleaned himself up as he got himself some of the first Adidas ever made, and began running while stopping drinking. Everyone in Houston then called that “jogging,” btw people still jog the same trails as Willie, but it was first called bogtrotting down on the bayou.

Turns out his Edsel Martin and he made a few good turns, and he is still bringing checkers to the chess matches in humbleness and truer intentions than most entertainers/joggers today.

Does that help Dr J? Glad to straighten that out.

MooPig "Itchy all Over" Department

For the love of Mary, What Reincarnate Devil is this ??
[Picture LINK]
Exterminator Tom Rasberry lets the creatures named for him, 'crazy rasberry ants,' crawl on his arm Tuesday. The ants are invading homes and yards across the Houston area. They showed up in Texas in 2002. Scientists aren't sure where they came from.

'They're itty-bitty things about the size of fleas, and they're just running everywhere,' said Patsy Morphew of Pearland, who is constantly sweeping them off her patio and scooping them out of her pool by the cupful.

'There's just thousands and thousands of them. If you've seen a car racing, that's how they are. They're going fast, fast, fast. They're crazy.'

The ants -- formally known as 'paratrenicha species near pubens' -- have spread to five Houston-area counties since they were first spotted in Texas in 2002.
'Crazy' Ants Swarm Over Houston Area
By LINDA STEWART BALL, AP  |  Posted: 2008-05-14 18:34:59

(May 14) - In what sounds like a really low-budget horror film, voracious swarming ants that apparently arrived in Texas aboard a cargo ship are invading homes and yards across the Houston area, shorting out electrical boxes and messing up computers.

The newly recognized species is believed to have arrived in a cargo shipment through the port of Houston. Scientists are not sure exactly where the ants came from, but their cousins, commonly called crazy ants, are found in the Southeast and the Caribbean.

"At this point, it would be nearly impossible to eradicate the ant because it is so widely dispersed," said Roger Gold, a Texas Aggies University entomologist.

Masons at the Alamo; Yellow Rose of Texas; Hats Off Please

Who Were The Masons?
The Masons belong to a fraternal organization whose membership has included many famous founders of both the United States and Texas.

The first attempt to establish Masonry in Texas came in 1828 when Stephen F. Austin and six other Masons attempted to obtain a charter from the Grand York Lodge of Mexico. Their request was not granted.

In 1835, Dr. Anson Jones and five other Masons met secretly in Brazoria to draft a request to the Grand Lodge of Louisiana for a charter. The Grand Master there, John Henry Holland, granted their request, and the lodge was named in his honor -- the Holland Lodge. The lodge was moved to Houston in 1837.

Later that same year, Texas Masons formed the Grand Lodge of Texas and returned the charters of the three existing lodges to Louisiana. Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas, was elected the first Grand Master.

Many Masons participated in the struggle for Texas independence. Many Texas military and political leaders were Masons, including: Stephen F. Austin, Edward Burleson, Benjamin Rush Milam, Juan Seguín, Sam Houston, David G. Burnet, Lorenzo de Zavala, Thomas Rusk, Mirabeau B. Lamar, John A. Wharton, and James W. Fannin.

  • See the following informational chart at link to click on, from James David Carter's Masonry in Texas: Background, History, and Influence to 1846 (p. 289), reveals the extent of Mason involvement in the battles of the Texas Revolution. click http://www.thealamo.org/asked.html#thirteen

Masons at the Alamo included James B. Bonham, James Bowie, David Crockett, Almeron Dickinson, and William B. Travis.

Masons continued to play a significant leadership role in the Republic of Texas. According to The New Handbook of Texas (2:1169):

"Although constituting only about 1_% of the population [of Texas], Masons
filled some 80 percent of the republic's higher offices. All of the presidents,
vice presidents, and secretaries of state were Masons."
Alamo Lodge No. 44, honored by a plaque on the south wall of the Long Barrack, was granted a charter from the Grand Lodge of Texas on January 15, 1848. The Master of the Lodge was Captain James H. Ralston, an Assistant Quartermaster of U.S. Volunteers. Born in Kentucky, Captain Ralston resided in Illinois at the time he received his commission, which he held from June 26, 1846 until March 3, 1849. Original members of the Lodge were mainly army officers who were already Masons. The Lodge held its meetings for several months in an upper-story room of the Long Barrack until it moved into its own hall on Alamo Plaza on June 24, 1848. [24]

Who Was The Yellow Rose?
The story of the Yellow Rose of Texas is one of the most enduring myths of the Texas Revolution. According to the legend, Sam Houston sent an attractive mulatto slave named Emily Morgan into the Mexican camp prior to the Battle of San Jacinto to distract Santa Anna while the Texian Army readied its attack. Santa Anna, who was known to be fond of the company of women, supposedly took the young Emily into his tent, and thus preoccupied, let down his guard.

In this version of the battle, Emily Morgan played the role of an 1830s M'atta Houri, enabling the Texians to gain victory at the expense of her virtue.

The story gained popularity in the 1950s with the revival of the song The Yellow Rose of Texas.

Historians, however, doubt the facts behind the legend. Historian Margaret Swett Henson points out that Emily Morgan was actually Emily D. West, a free woman of color under contract to James Morgan. Mexican troops seized Emily along with several other servants from Morgan's warehouse at New Washington on the Brazos River.

Henson contends that although Emily West was at Santa Anna's camp on the banks of the San Jacinto River, she had not gone there willingly nor had she been sent by Sam Houston. It appears that Emily West returned to New York, her permanent place of residence, shortly after the revolution.

Who Owns The Alamo?

The Alamo is owned by the State of Texas and operated by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Although many believe that Alamo is only the church, or Shrine, it is actually a 4.162 acre complex composed of original structures dating back to the mission period, a gift museum, a library, meeting hall, support facilities, and gardens.

Why Are Men Asked To Remove Their Hats?

This tradition at the Alamo dates to 1913 when the Daughters of the Republic of Texas first placed a sign at the entrance which read: "Gentleman on entering the Alamo will please remove their hats, and all visitors will speak in low tones, in recognition of the sacredness of this shrine." Removing one's hat is a sign of respect.

Feeling a bit Crimped here, in the Middle!

Report from the Middle, Pat Darnell, BSBA CTU, TUA, MOFO

I really wish the goofy announcers and talkies hosts that crowd the airwaves would remember the breadbasket interior once in a while. I hear all the botched crap from Washington, DC, New York and Hollywood; hey there is botched crap in Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, Dallas and Houston. Heck even Miami could use a little crimping.

Okay let’s make corollaries: I truly wish bi-coastal’s could wise up. Is it only me... or Do others ever notice there is “No” declaration of culpability from West Coast and East Coast nudniks who think the only happenings are in the east or west coast? New Yorkers and LA’ers: say to me, with body language and with words: “We are the only happening in the country.”

Second cities are the least appreciated. Why also are they usually never mentioned on quiz shows? For instance: "What is the sister city of Evanston, IL.?" I don't know either, but certainly someone is interested in this knowledge.

Usually quips are like: “Houston is Paris just without all the beautiful buildings,” can’t remember who said it. But true it is. Tulsa is San Francisco, just with more oil wells. Chicago, the Big Onion, is Second City per Belushi days, to the Big Apple. Hey! This makes me hungry: "Say Philly can I get a philly cheese steak over here, walkin'?"

Wicked, eh? Californians should let the elements batter their faces for a whole Chicago winter before attempting to play a role in the rust belt. In this photo of two grumpier-than-grumpier has-beens, who of the two has the better face lift?

I get most tickled when I see LA actors playing in movies set in the Northeast. You know a lot of Northern residents are shy of the sun. They don’t like coming out in the gamma rays. If you look closely when J. Roberts or Bill Hurt walk the streets of New York in a movie, they walk chest up to the Sun. Every northern person knows you don’t walk that way north of the Mason-Dixon Line! Hunch over and shuffle your feet, and do it quickly. What!

What else? Oh yeah, I thought the cultural divide for our great country is traditionally north to south, not east-middle-west. Personally I would like to hear more Jeno-Letterman jokes about people from Michigan, and Wisconsin -- Lubbock and Tuscon, Gary Indiana, and say Flint, MI. for example: Click on this cute joke about farmers in Illinois>>

Besides all that, it’s time to annex Mexico. Then we would have more of the two coasts and less middle. But that is a new topic. Expre'sate! >>pd

It turns out if I don't include all these actors' names, no one will read my postings, and all will miss my humor-ain't.
I retrieved all these images this morning from google images searches, and forgot to copy/paste the addresses. So bite me.
