End of Books
by Pat Darnell  |  May 11, 2015  |  Bryan TX

"Seasons change and so do I, you need not wonder why ..." Yes there is no time left for you or me. I studied the aspect of publishing online for almost a decade. I have decided that publishing can be done without initial cost, electronically. KDP, Kindle Direct Publishing, hosts writers, serious and nominalists [like us], for all seasons and reasons, electronically. There, we said it twice, electronically. You can publish your book at no expense by signing on to KDP, the arm of Amazon that serves you well [HERE].
New Title Checklist:

  1. Book Content: You will be asked to upload your manuscript in a recommended format. We recommend using Kindle content creation tools to create children's books, educational content, comics and manga.
  2. Book Cover: Use our online Cover Creator, or upload your cover in a supported format.
  3. Description, Keywords and Categories: Tell readers about your book and help them find it on Amazon.
[...]

  1. Book Content: I have a bunch of stories that have been around for over eight years and have been looked at by many folks. I made them into .doc files using a free download of OpenOffice. KDP uses the .mobi file system that Amazon developed for itself, and your .doc file will be automatically translated when you upload. It is mind numbingly easy.
  2. I used the Cover Creator to make covers from my own block of original .jpeg pictures on my PC.You make your cover after you download your content file ... it is part of the KDP self-help process. It works well, and KDP offers some templates.
  3. Be prepared to "hawk" peddle own works aggressively, with several "tags, KeyWords, phrases, and pricing." KDP has this all covered for you in their "upload and setup."
Here is MooPig Wisdom, the Book, LINK. Here is GAZA, A Jazz Rock Opera Epic, LINK.

I am not a youngster. I have six children, from 36 to 19, who depend on me to overstate the obvious at key times in their lives. I have no private life, except here on line. You need to know this because everything I do in the MooPig is "experimental." I "live to write," and hope to someday assist my children to "write to live." I with MooPig Wisdom made a promise in 2006 to be the Writers' writer, and to encourage voice, content, and style in our everyday communications and writings. Those sentiments are stated in blurbs at the bottom of the blog, MooPig Wisdom.

Here is Winter Romance, LINK. And, here is my PoetryGeist, Poem a Day for a Year, LINK

End of books? I don't think so. Sometimes authors must self-publish to get started on finding a reader. As a matter of fact, it is more often the case than not, that self-publishing is favored for start-up. From the Beatles to Longfellow, self-publishing is the first act of the artist in these regards. I found a way to publish by spending no cash. It is available to all, electronically, and Amazon also has a print on demand sub routine that makes your book available in print. The best part of that is you don't have to stockpile your book as if you print it the "old-fashion way" through a publisher.

I plan to crowd my bookshelf at Amazon KDP with fifty titles, or publish a book a week for a year. It is an obtainable goal as I have started, and now have the bug.

I hope this helps writers everywhere in their quest to be heard. Publishing used to be a wall to climb with defenders of the city beyond raining arrows and hot oil down on you. Dash that from your journey, and join this KDP publishing bubble. "I did my Time, Now it is Time to Publish."

Navy SEAL Author Rejects the Pentagon's Legal Threat - Politics - The Atlantic Wire:
EXCERPT  |   ""Mr. Owen sought legal advice about his responsibilities before agreeing to publish his book and scrupulously reviewed the work to ensure that it did not disclose any material that would breach his agreements or put his former comrades at risk," wrote Robert D. Luskin, an attorney at D.C. lobbying behemoth Patton Boggs. "Mr. Owen is proud of his service and respectful of his obligations. But he has earned the right to tell his story."" (JOHN HUDSON. AUG 31, 2012. HERE)

In a printing shop is the Bindery Department. The pages have been typeset, stripped to film, and plated in the Plate Room. The Press Room prints the pages on large paper. In the Bindery the pages are cut to size and collated into lifts. The lifts of pages then go through several steps of gluing, sewing, and binding. Then the cover is pressed on the "book," in the Bindery.

The point is that during any of these stages the book can be read. Especially from the very start when it is typeset and put on film, can it be read several times by the laymen workers, journeymen, and print bosses, even the janitor reads it.

It mystifies MooPig when it reads a story that implies lawyers issuing a cease or desist publishing a book to anyone ... what exactly is the point? The deed is already done, it's ancient history, it's moot, you jackals.
EXCERPT from the Article | " ...According to the letter, the nondisclosure agreement signed by Bissonnette when he was a SEAL only applied to "specially identified Special Access Programs" and not missions such as the May 1, 2011 raid.

That's an argument that may come as a surprise to some legal experts, who considered the Pentagon's case against Bissonnette a "slam dunk" given his failure to submit his book for pre-publication review. ... "
Pre-publication review -- are they daft? Most authors today are self-published. One can easily write a 365 page book on the Internet, and upload it all over the world. What in God's green earth is a pre-publication review?

It is an HONOR system ... but all persons define HONOR differently, and that is why this sucks.
EXCERPT | " ...Last night, [Aug 28, 2012] the public got its first taste of the book's contents as the Associated Press and The Huffington Post obtained pre-release copies of it. (JOHN HUDSON. AUG 29, 2012. HERE)... "
When a buck is to be made, well, it seems that brings out the money grubbers. And the more they try to BAN this book by Bissonette, the greater it will profit the author out here in the markets. Yes, negative press is just as good, if not better than, approved press releases. The story is as old as the Torah.

I can just see Carl Marx submitting his little book for a pre-publication review.

But MooPig Fact-Checker Department holds this conjecture as the real reason the administration would try to hide this book from the public:
EXCERPT | " ...Bissonnette [aka Mark Owen] is also critical of President Obama in his story, saying that no one on the team was a fan of the president and that they believed he and other leaders would inflate their own roles in the story. Even before the raid began, the SEALs joked about how they would help Obama get re-elected and also speculated about who would play them in the Hollywood movie. Despite their personal feelings about Obama, however, the SEALs did agree that he made the right call, saying "Although we applauded the decision-making in this case, there was no doubt in anybody’s mind that he would take all the political credit for this too.”(DASHIELL BENNETT. AUG 29, 2012. HERE)... "

Are Consumers Truly Free to Make Choices in the Market, or are they oppressed, manipulated, deviously twisted, constrained and held down?
[Picture LINK]
This Column Is Not Sponsored by Anyone - NYTimes.com:
EXCERPT  |  " ... When the umpire calls the runner safe at home plate, a corporate logo appears on the television screen, and the play-by-play announcer must say, ‘Safe at home. Safe and secure. New York Life.’ ” (Thomas L. Friedman. May 12, 2012. HERE ).... "
'via Blog this'

This looks like a fun book to read. We might download it to our Kindle Fire.
" ... And while I knew that retired baseball players sell their autographs for $15 a pop, I had no idea that Pete Rose, who was banished from baseball for life for betting, has a Web site that, Sandel writes, “sells memorabilia related to his banishment. For $299, plus shipping and handling, you can buy a baseball autographed by Rose and inscribed with an apology: ‘I’m sorry I bet on baseball.’ For $500, Rose will send you an autographed copy of the document banishing him from the game.” (ibid.)... "
The author says the end of the cold war caused us to celebrate by becoming a "market society." The results of that we are seeing today.
" ... he argues, when America’s victory was interpreted as a victory for unfettered markets, thus propelling the notion that markets are the primary instruments for achieving the public good. (ibid.) ..."
Compared to the 1960's our market society looks like a class war. The corporate sponsors look like the Bureau Chiefs of China sitting in skyboxes at the corporate named stadiums "even at college games — that cost tens of thousands of dollars a season, and hoi polloi sit out in the rain."

Arguments for the 'common good' are difficult to make in a commercialized society. Manipulation of demographic groups is thinly disguised as a struggle between 'haves' and 'have nots.' How can Democracy survive in this type of "market society, skyboxification of American life,... and it is troubling...." decline? The author would hope that sanity could rise above this trend. But we at MooPig know that bombast often wins in our 'market' society.

How to Read a Book - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
I was going through old notes from classes I took in the 1980's and found a referral to this book. I think it might be the missing link to my derisive nature.

I tried to call the professor who mentioned it but he is no where to be found these days. It was at the School for New Learning, SNL, at DePaul night school -- we were called the Weekend Warriors.

EXCERPT -- " ... Unlike Barnes and Noble, the company [BORDERS] never really successfully transitioned to digital, leaving it with a lot of physical inventory and real estate assets that are rapidly becoming albatrosses with declining sales. This comes on the heels of last Friday's stock slide after news that Borders was missing payments to creditors. ... "

Print on Demand goes to Press

PC Magazine Goes 100% Digital | 11.19.08
by Lance Ulanoff [SOURCE]

An Open letter to PC Magazine (Print) Readers,

The January 2009 issue (Volume 28, Issue 1) of PC Magazine will mark a monumental transition for the publication. It is the last printed edition of this venerable publication. Of course, as with any technology-related enterprise, this is not the end, but the beginning of something exciting and new.

...

This open letter a few weeks ago from PC Magazine announced it ceased publishing its print magazine, after 27 years of covering the technology industry. These days it simply doesn't make economic or environmental sense for us to print a magazine, load it on trucks, and send it across the country when the same information can be delivered instantly online via PCMag.com. At about the same time, my girlfriend gave me a love letter: a paperback book she made herself with glossy pages, full-color photos, and a production quality that would make any magazine art director salivate. How can she afford to print a single book when big publishing companies lose money selling hundreds of thousands of copies? Welcome to the world of print on demand.

How publishing-on-demand will transform the publishing industry.
by Dan Costa
(1996-2008 Ziff Davis
Publishing Holdings Inc.)

I suppose we all
knew this would someday be our unfortunate condition. I had a PC Magazine subscription in the '80's. It helped me to find a niche in the burgeoning PC\IT surge...

Will there always be a need for printing? And now that it is over, no more magazines laying about the doctors' office... no more books in libraries... only
books to hold down the picnic blanket... books for boll weevils to eat...?

NO more Web Presses?

Hey Warren,
[SOURCE]

Speaking of paper rolls being dropped, here's a story you might not have heard. Before I came to Bethel, the night watchmen in the factory used to carry guns. You probably know that much of the paper the Society bought came from Canada in boxcars. It was often quite cold when it was unloaded, so they would stack it up on end, several rolls high (20'-30', depending on the ceiling height) and leave it there to reach room temperature so it could be run through the presses. As the paper would warm up, it often made cracking noises.

One night a particularly skittish watchman was walking through one of the storage floors at night. It was dark, and the rolls were warming up and making noise. I am not quite sure just how it happened, but shots were fired into the paper rolls. That was the end of the guns.
