When I first saw Keith Jardine fighting on UFC at SPIKE TV about two years ago, he was fighting 300 pound Tank Abbott type guys. Now Jardine is fighting light-heavy weight 205 lbs, a lower weight class, and he has just beat another someone tonight on a decision.
I really took a dislike to Keith Jardine on first appearances, like it matters.. right? However, over the course of the UFC rise in stature, and in general popularity in a subversive sort of way, I have realized Keith is a working man's fighter. The announcer guy, Grogan, interviews the winning fighter after every match at UFC -- [can't figure that out] -- and Keith is a real classy speaker as well as worker out there. Unlike other smash mouths, troglodytes with billboards all over their shorts and socks... with yobs wiping blood off, Jardine doesn't parade around.
I really get a kick out of watching his stumbling grabbing, left-handedness. You see, he has won against both Chick Liddell and Forest Griffin, throws them off with his unique stances and timing. To win over either of those guys is a feat. I only wish I had done some of this mixed martial arts when I was young, I could have applied it to work and play back then.

I guess what I am suggesting is that we curmudgeons should analyze what makes a cage match master like Liddell, Griffin, Bonner, and Jardine, and put that in our day to days. We should make a pact today to have ripply abdomens by Summer '09.... yeah?
Working man's mixed martial arts for belly washboards... like the "Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine..!! We are already class acts... I don't have to look like Jackie Gleason though... right?
