The Tortoise And The Solar Plant: A Mojave Story

EXCERPT" ... 'This is one that was walking down the middle of the road when it was spotted by one of the monitors,' Woodman says. 'Luckily, we've got a radio transmitter on it now.'Love these COMMENTS; after all they are Free Source... [I just made that up!]
He's looking at an adult female tortoise; she's about the size of a dinner plate, and the transmitter is glued to her shell. It almost looks like a stray twig.
The tortoises can't stay where construction crews might harm them, so the biologists are moving them to pens to ride out the desert winter. In the spring, they'll try relocating them to the wild.
Vaughn spots a tortoise with a crushed shell that is trying to move its legs, but they barely wriggle. It's the type of injury tortoises get when an all-terrain vehicle or motorcycle accidentally rides over them. (SOURCE, Oct 30, 2010) ... "

One more example of why describing environmentalists as a "movement" is so ironic. There is no Movement, only resistance to Movement, i.e. one roadblock after another. They Block all advancements while dithering and whining about "potential problems" while real, certain and present problems crush the environment. Environmental Impact statements (aka full employment for enviro-consultants), costing millions and eating up years that could both be better spent DOING SOMETHING have served only to limit and restrict innovations, advancements and improvements.
The tortoises will be fine and continue to adapt and survive, as they have for millions of years, where they are located or re-located. Enviros should learn that Nature & Earth cares little about their whiny concerns and self-aggrandizing pronouncements about what is "best" for the world.

I'm so happy to have green energy to save the environment! Well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that we won't waste rooftop space and blight our urban ecosystem with nasty solar panels there. Whew. And really, I'd much rather spend money moving tortoises around than spend it on energy. And thank god their not drilling for gas out there! Can you imagine the impact of a road to a gas well?

“Tortoises don't really like that kind of attention, and sometimes, they let the scientists know. ‘They will pee,’ Woodman says. ‘And they can pee copiously if they have a full bladder.’ He's talking from personal experience: ‘It does have an odor. It's a musky scent.’"
I love their style!
Can we borrow these SMART tortoises please? Since we have a dysfunctional Congress, I thought these tortoises could use the same technique to show how ANGRY American people are about what is happening on Capitol Hill.

This chart above represents the percentage increase in 2008 vs. 2007 in mortgage loan Notice-of-Defaults that each company originated. Granted, some of these loans may have been sold, securitized etc, but they also kept a large number of originations which are likely performing at the same rate. This chart shows which firms had serious mortgage related risk management lapses. This does not include second mortgages of which Chase is also loaded to the gills. [SOURCE]

MooPig Brain Industries and Gym :: American Football under Review

Today, while Lindsay Lohan is sent yet again to jail for failing her drug test, while a SIMILAC recall is underway, and as the Republicans unveil their pledge to the American People, while Pribek ponders who should represent him as comedian to address the US legislatures ... we are reminded of harsh realities of battered brains inside heads.
Yes, football as it is played in the US might contribute to brain damage in athletes. No we are not going to segue into Pink Floyd's Brain Damage ... but we are going to overstate the obvious as we at the MooPig Arsenal of Best Practices Journalism are most apt to do.
Heads up American Football, contact sport, taught religiously from 3rd Grade to Senior in Colleges, is being reviewed in the Professional leagues. Seems someone noticed the 52G ramming speed of a linebacker taking it to a running back. This was done by putting "sensors" in the linebacker's helmet. The special helmet costs about $10,000 [a bargain when one compares the money being borrowed and spent by the US Government].
" ... [from same article] ... This week there were more shocking revelations when autopsy results revealed samples of Thomas' brain tissue showed he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE, brain injuries caused by repetitive head trauma which have been linked to depression and impulsive behavior, CBS News Correspondent Cynthia Bowers reports.
"It does give a possible contributing factor to what was an astounding, out-of-the-blue act," said Katherine Brearly, Thomas' mother. ... [SOURCE]"
So, just sayin', maybe it is best for football players to leave their brains on the bench during play ... just sayin'. It could save a lot of brains -- that we are told are a terrible thing to waste. Just sayin'.

Hypertension hits 200 million Chinese
By Shan Juan (chinadaily.com.cn) | Updated: 2010-10-24 12:43
[SOURCE]
It seems like anything that happens in China always affects millions of people. If there is a landslide, oops there go a million homes.... If there is a flu, oops there go three million to the hospitals...
Well, here is another staggering large number of Chinese people statistic for you:
" ... More than 200 million people suffer high blood pressure in the Chinese mainland and it has become the leading preventable cause of death in China, causing 2.3 million deaths a year, experts said citing latest epidemiology study results at an awareness raising event on October 8, the National Hypertension Day.Two hundred million folks is half the population of the entire United States... and Chinese particular brand of hypertension is caused chiefly from too much Sodium. Here is my question: Is salt used because there is not enough refrigeration? As in, salt to preserve foods? We doubt it.
The event held by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in Beijing aims to improve the management of the disease at grassroots levels and promote proper and scientific use of hypertension drugs among the medical workers and patients.
High dietary sodium is blamed as a major factor for the high prevalence of hypertension, said experts. ... "
" ... Why is free glutamic acid added in vast amounts to processed foods? Our large profit-driven food companies have found that manufactured free glutamic acid, in the form of monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, etc., etc., when added to our processed foods, masks off flavors and makes the blandest and cheapest foods taste wonderful. (SOURCE) ... "It is a "preventable" cause of death, but these articles only scratch the surface of this titan disease. We will get back to hypertension in the future, meanwhile we are submitting October 8, as National MooPig Hypertension Day, to our busy MooPig Science and Nutrition calendar, as Feed for Thought. It will take about a year for us to clear a desk top for a new reporter. Let's see if we can remember this date next year; after all this disease is the "silent killer."

A House Appropriations Committee report accompanying legislation funding the Department of the Interior shows that Bush requested 93 of the 321 earmarks in the bill. MooPig FWD Email Department :: Congressional Reform 2010
THIS IS HOW TO FIX CONGRESS!!!!!
"Congressional Reform Act of 2010." It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
I know many of you will say "this is impossible." Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval rating of any entity in Government. Now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.
**********************************
Congressional Reform of 2010
1. Term Limits.
- 12 years only, one of the possible options below..
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms
2. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
3. Congress (past, present and future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.
4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor , not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

Defeating the Insurgents Payoff is what is Reported
by Pat Darnell
Since the insurgency began after Baghdad fell in spring 2003, 19,429 militants have been killed in clashes with coalition forces, statistics show. The numbers do not include enemy killed during the invasion.
The U.S. military rarely discusses the numbers of enemy dead, fearful of raising parallels with the Vietnam War when the U.S. military's reliance on "body counts" led to allegations of inflated figures because of political pressure to show results. [USAToday SOURCE]

For Example: SEARS Black Friday Ads Loink
Additionally, Sears has their annual Friends and Family VIP sale in the middle of November which is always competitive with Black Friday prices.
There will be very many good sales in the next five weeks leading up to Black Friday, but there will also be an equal amount of mediocre sales masquerading behind the Black Friday name.

Retrieved for both MooPig Readers by O. Mi Goshen, and Loinks
We have gone over the advertisement and it is nothing more than a standard weekly advertisement. This is going to be a problem throughout November as retailers will be attempting to attach the words "Black Friday" to as many sales promotions as possible (I like to call them "bait ads"). This isn't to say there won't be any great deals before Black Friday (there will), but rather a reminder to be wary of non-BF sales attempting to associate with the Black Friday name.
Lastly, for the third straight year, Walmart has sent us a notice stating that we may not post their Black Friday advertisement until Sunday, November 21. We learned last year that this date is not necessarily set in stone, but gives us an idea that we probably won't see the Walmart ad until mid-to-late November. Our full news post is here: http://bfads.net/New-Year-Same-Old-Dance-with-Walmart
With no Black Friday advertisements released, that means our Guess the Release Date of the First Black Friday Ad Contest is still going strong. We say 'HUNH?'
